Funny you call him sensitive. Everytime you sense any iRacing negativity you come crying ‘forum troll!’ and post monty python videos. We know what you meant and how you feel about AI. All the back peddling makes you look silly. Not everyone that disagrees with you is drinking either. I’d rather race an AI than an A hole.

I also re read, and have the same opinion, unlike your typical arguments, usually quite balanced, every one of your options basically made racing the AI just a simplistic option for people unaware of or not seeking a real challenge.

For sure “competent” humans create the ultimate challenge – but ‘competent’ humans online are not a given. I’ve certainly encountered my fair share of online drivers who made the AI look like Aryton Senna.

Personally, I’d *rather* race a human any day of the week, but I also enjoy various forms of racing that I cannot find online (well not in iRacing, which for me is the only valid option), so offline becomes a nice variation. Properly managed with stringent rules (very limited extra testing, real world setup change times, no resets or do-overs, no mulligans or ‘quick repairs’ for wrecking in practice and qual, and an AI set to not be a pushover) you *can* create a very challenging offline experience.

ermax18: felipe, not all of us run pirated tracks. Most simracers own a copy of every sim… including a sub to iRacing so converted tracks are necessarily pirated. I think truth hit the nail on your head.

when I said pirated I didn’t mean conversions I meant unlicensed tracks legally that falls in piracy! I think the word pirated hit the nail on your head.

And I can’t beat AI at 95%, so…? And trust me, running at the back even with ‘real’ people is just as boring as hotlapping but a lot more stressful: should I watch the road ahead or the mirror, in case some ‘ace’ comes flying from behind me and throws a fit afterwards?
One very important reason for offline racing for me is that I can do it anytime I feel like it. No pressure of being right on time, stuff like connection failures, ringing phones, adjusting my chair whenever, etc.

Since early December, I haven’t raced online, which to me means iRacing (the only place I’d race online, because of thier excellent arrive and drive racing format). By your narrow definition, I decided to scurry back to offline racing to stroke my ego and rack up wins. Odd, since I can – and have – set my AI to be every bit as fast as the splits my last Irating of 2300 sometimes placed me in. My last iRAcing race was a lowly 1700 SOF and the competition was no where as challenging as the races I am *guaranteed* to have offline where i keep my AI strength well over 100%).Perhaps if iRacing had a mixed chassis class – especially with GT racers (oh like an ALMS GT2 or FIA class as represented in GTR) – I’d never get the yearning for some offline multi chassis/multi class racing. It ain’t about ‘beating’ the AI and not wanting a challenge.

Jack B: A lot of people enjoy racing the AI, because you can select a setting where you “win”.Racing online against others is much tougher.No two ways around it, 50% of the online drivers finish in the bottom half of each race.Online racing can be a wake up call as to how good you really are.It’s a bummer to half the online racers, who finish at the back of the pack each race.AI can always be beaten and let’s face it, for some people winning is fun and losing is not.Other people like AI, because it’s predictable.They typically do the same thing or very similar things most of the time.Online racers aren’t like that.Still others like to imagine they are racing Mansel or Montoya or Schumacher or whomever.That’s fun for a little while, but the downsides of AI get pretty old, pretty quick for me.

So what’s wrong in playing a pirated version? don’t you play over 100 tracks pirated to rFactor, GTR 2, Race(GTR Evo, STCC, Race On) too? I do own this games and it may amaze you but I payed for them all and I did gladly just like I’ll do when GT5 comes out.
P.S. you can play PS3 pirated games but that’s a long story although I would never mod my PS3!

Nope, haven’t tried it yet – wasn’t sure if it was worth trying.I do remember the FFB in Prologue being noticeably smooth and lifeless though.It’ll be interesting to see how it differs.Maybe I’ll give this demo a shot, thanks.

I’m afraid the demo is no longer available and even if you have it on your PS3, you can no longer access the demo since it was disabled in the middle of February. Hopefully, there’ll be another one or better still, the GT5 proper.

It’s not bad BUT not that great. It’s just like a cartoon. Everything is shiny and polish even the track…
The GT5 TT demo was lacking AA. I stopped playing it because of the blinking fences.

The GT5TT demo was a cut down 200MB download, the graphics weren’t even upto GT5P’s standards.

It wasn’t covered on this website but screenshots of the revised track textures have been released, and they are far superior to anything seen before.

This is after all “VirtualR” as in Virtual Racing. Not saying it wouldn’t be fun to drive around freely and run down pedestrians.. this just isn’t really the place for that sort of game.

Back to topic, NASCAR is a way to sell more in US, that’s it. So Dale Jr is very revelant. Too bad there will be only 12 cars on a track. Nascar is all about running with 42 other racers.
