Gran Turismo 5 – New DLC Coming Up

Polyphony Digital has announced  that new DLC content and a software update is coming to Gran Turismo 5 on Tuesday.

The new DLC content will give GT5 users access to three new cars that sell for $0,99 each, including the Nissan GT-R Kazunori Yamauchi drove during the 2012 Nürburgring 24 Hour race.

  • Nissan GT-R N24 GT Academy ’12
  • Subaru BR-Z S ’12
  • Honda Weider HSV-010 (SUPER GT) ’11

Along with the DLC content, Gran Turismo will also receive a new software update (2.08) that will bring the following changes:

  • Now possible to select “Disable collisions” in the [Event Settings] of online races.
  • ID’s are now shown above cars when watching online races.
  • Response of the clutch pedal when using the steering wheel controllers “G25 Racing Wheel”, “G27 Racing Wheel”, “T500RS” and “TH8RS” has been adjusted.
  • Rate of tire wear in endurance races has been slowed (excluding formula cars).
  • Amount of air resistance change when altering aerodynamic wing settings has been increased.
  • Autopilot has been adjusted to prevent colliding with the wall when exiting the pit lane on the Tsukuba circuit.
  • Adjusted the changes in control characteristic when altering vehicle height from standard height. (Vehicle height can be changed by adjusting ride height, either by installing a suspension kit or adjusting a full customizable suspension kit.)

Anybody tried this know how the DLC works in GT5? Do you buy and then have to unlock the DLC cars? That’s my problem with GT5. I like it, but not nearly enough to want to spend time grinding for experience points or whatever they’re called. Frankly, I feel a little ripped off. There ought to be a mode for people who aren’t that into it that allows you to run any race with any car.

Oh look, more Japanese made cars.

You don’t need grind for the DLC cars… well, anyway, I’m happy they still spend time improving the physics. The HSV is bound to be cool as well.

I wonder when is the “all standard cars upgraded to premium status, including graphics and physics” DLC is coming. I’m still annoyed with tons of GT4 cars and track rehashes and unpolish on most of the retail content. I never seen an AAA developer get away with such approach of development.

Again, they should have ditch the Rally/Nascar and focus more on GT/Tourers/road cars, thats what the “Gran Turismo” always been about. Its a shame because the premium and ‘completed’ content is very good, but the “quantity over quality” phylosophy of PD pretty much ruined what could be a great game.

With DLC cars you get to drive it right away. Although I must add I don’t know if that’s possible at all level (I’m currently at level 39 and have been at level 39 since forever). But even if you need to reach a minimum level, I think it’s at level 15 or so which takes about 2 or 3 days (of normal playtime, not continuous).

Whys that? It’s the closest thing to a sim as you’ll ever get on a console and it did pioneer next gen graphics before PC and even earlier with Prologue.

I laugh when people like to look down on consoles. Especially the PS3 with its beast of a cell processor.. This can start many a debate, but seems the PC guys are the most ignorant towards it. Yet I’ve read many web articles from REAL racers with the experience needed to say the physics are pretty dam close to the real cars.

Google “A racers perspective of GT5″. It’s a good read. So many people who race hardcore sims say like iRacing think because the cars are so close to the edge all the time and drive like they are on ice, that that is real physics. A friend of mine talked to a BMW ALMS driver for Rahal/Letterman about iracing in the paddocks at MoSport, and the driver said, “So many of these hardcore sims do not represent the actual physics of a true race car.

He said (Dirk Mueller) that iRacings Ford GT and the Corvette C6R, are so far from right. Braking is off. The way the back end at slow speeds slides the car around is just WRONG. The cars are easier to drive in the real then these games make them to be. They stick and are planted and tuned for maximum grip.. He actually mentioned GT5 as a much more accurate representation of how a real car handles…

I can have anyone laugh at this comment if they want, but if you’ve never driven a real race car and you hear a real driver say things like that, the more power he has over you and what you believe a real car should feel like. So I get the last laugh over these iRacing fanboys who think a car loosing grip at a mere 40mph and spinning around is real..

Try that in a mini van…lol’s..Flip the sucker before you’d even induce it to spin around..ROFL..

Good post. As an iRacer RF2 Sim Bin pCars blah blah pilot. Those that discount GT5 (especially for non race cars) are missing out.

I don’t see any of those titles or older ones creating real race car drivers either, except GT5. Not even iRacings top alien driver from finland (forget his name. Oh ya Gregger Huttu), could get within any time when they tested him out in the Star Mazda in the real to his alien time in iRacing on Road Atlanta..

Dude puked all over himself and he looks out of shape… I race all those sims you mentioned on PC and I do love them, but I hate the disrespect they give to one of the only developers that actually races real cars himself being KAZ…

I test drove a Mercedes SLS AMG in the real from a sales Rep I know that works at a Mercedes dealership here where I live..Sounded and felt like the car in GT5 while I was sitting in my racing cockpit with a Fanatec CSR wheel in my hands..

Last thing as well is this dealership had a GT5 simulator and cockpit set up to test drive the SLS AMG… HMMM ya it’s not a real simulator hey??

I’m a PC big time sim fan, but i’m sorry, GT5 is the closest representation of reality you can get, and NO other sim has those bragging rights that GT5 as a world wide brand has.

It was reported that the PD team spent nights sleeping under their desks in the closing stages of development of GT5, for them to upgrade all 700+ standard cars to that high quality premium level.. I think they’ve had to have been sleeping under there for the last two years, and possibly the next two also.

To turnover the level of detail they did on the premiums was epic, but the man hours must have been a lot. They needed more staff if they want to all that in a timely manner last time I heard.
