Gran Turismo 5 – Ferrari 458 Italia Video

The automobile industry has very well learned about the positive marketing effects of video games and below is the newest example.

Following Turn 10 and Forza Motorsport 3 earlier today, Polyphony Digital has relased a video showing the brand new Ferrari 458 Italia in Gran Turismo 5. Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show a week ago, Ferrari’s newest road car will be present in both upcoming major console driving titles. The 458 is powered by a 4.5 liter V8 engine puttin out 570hp, no price or start-of-production date has yet been announced.

In related news, another much-discussed car shown at Frankfurt Motor Show has been confirmed to make it into GT5 as Mercedes Benz has announced that their SLS AMG coupe has joined the title’s lineup of cars.

What a classy and beautiful trailer. Only Polyphony can make them like this!

458 is slowly growing on me

  • DeadStar

WOW amazing, hope the Physics are as good as the trailer. Then I will buy a PS3 Slim.

    wow…

  • RaYqUe

    Great song! \o/

  • triple_a

Nice vid but come on, it’s clearly pre-rendered. The game won’t look like that running on the PS3.

  • f0xx

    Respect

  • Diromo

Even video is a bit longer than Forza’s  => Marketing

And I like this video more than Forza’s one
    Yeah, great song :shame:

  • sediol

It would be much more interesting to see the actual gameplay with the 15 opponents. Does anybody think the game will really look like that?

    Nope

  • sediol

    Me neither :sd:

    Great video, nice song.

GT5P’s already on the market, and in replay mode it does look close, if not identical, to that trailer. For example you can see through the rear mesh on a Ferrari F40 and details such as LED and neon lights.

GT5P is now almost two years old, and you’ve seen the graphical improvements to Sony PS3 first party games over that period, i.e Uncharted to Uncharted 2.

Even a great looking game like NFS Shift is still unmistakingly a game, GT5P’s replays look real.

I also noticed there’s a new open road(?) track featured in this trailer.

    Incredible… Just, perfect.

  • Sodapop

Nice movie. Now where’s my demo?

  • MadCat360

    Mindblowing.

  • Klaas Jan

    Beautiful!

  • scefen

Thing is that the game will look pretty much like this. I have the GT5P, and that is not far from this trailer, and you also need to think about that they improve the graphics all the time.
Damn this looks even better than real life. Seriously.

I don’t think this is prerendered. That would simply take too long as an answer to the FM3 trailer on the same day.
Editing this trailer already takes a lot of time as it has to go through quality control and marketing.

As always I don’t think the physics will be on par with even rFactor or GTR1.
But from what I have seen on the trailers, the suspension and the shock compress/depress at least looks realistic.

  • ScHiRoCk

    OMG, this looks so amazing.

If comparing this to the forza 3 clip of the italia this is what MY eyes see different.

Forza 3 has good gfx no doubt but it looks a bit more drawed (like a cartoon) while in gt5 i can see the real photorealism.
That is the only big difference i see. But that’s just seeing it tru my eyes :)

  • Bjorn

Forza is over-saturated, I agree schirock. Looks a bit cartoonish

  • aliasx

Looks freaking real! Like it, but without simphysiks it’s just another boring eye candy in longer terms of view.

  • stabiz

That looks properly good. I also like that video, nicely made.

  • paupau

Cool looking Ferrari, haven’t seen so much detail in a game since..well never.

  • f0xx

Looks better than forza, though something is not right….if in NFS Shift they had to lower the graphics for the consoles, I wonder how the PS3 can handle these graphics..

  • Bjorn

Because it’s a brilliantly written engine, compared to SMS’s.

  • DeadStar

If you have not noticed the Track details in GT5 is nothing compared to the Ultra detail of the car models. That is where they saved all the performance for the High poly car models. Also no Anti-Aliasing on the tracks plus physics processing is an afterthought we all know that unless you are a fanboy of Gran Turismo. Forza 3′s tracks look much much higher detailed and it is truly a miracle that how they were able to pull that off on the much weaker Xbox 360.

At the moment GT5 is better in the Car poly count and total car count while Forza 3 is better in everything else and seems like a more polished game compared to GT5.

I was planning on getting a PS3 Slim for GT5 very soon but it seems the game has been announced to be coming in March 2010 in Japan moments ago and that would make 2-3 month delay for NA & EU. So more delays for GT5 is not good for it’s reputation and would greatly benefit Forza 3 to sell many more copies as people are very impatient.

  • DeadStar

Also the Draw Distance in GT5 is very less.

  • Sodapop

So all that marketing bullcrap about coming out in 2009 and the marketing blitz was all to “compete” with Turn10 huh? How freakin sad.

  • DeadStar

    Poly”Phony” Digital

  • f0xx

Well Im no console or GT fanboy.
Only played Gran turismo through emulators. Now Im playging GT4.

The cars look better than Forza, the tracks I dont know, but since Im a car lover I’d prefer detailed cars xD.

  • vik15

I would be interested to see real gameplay captured from a cable instead of flashy and flickering advertising video. Although nice flashes everywhere indeed.

  • DeadStar

I am also a PC only car lover but was tired of waiting for a Big budget Sim with lots of licensed cars to come on PC so I bought a second hand Xbox 360 in anticipation of Forza 3 but before that I tried Forza 2 and it is definitely much much better than GT4 which is crap compared to PC Sims and Forza 2. Forza 2 also had PC game feel to it while Gran Turismo has always had a console feel to it. That is why I just cannot seem to like Gran Turismo. But that all can change with Gran Turismo 5 Full Version whenever it will come out after a long development period by the developers who lied to the world the whole time about the state of the game.

  • ZombieJim

Was that a tarmac rally stage I saw there? Please god tell me it was.

Agreed. To render that sequence would take a month of Sundays. You’d need a nice renderfarm for that baby.

The 458 is one of the sexiest Ferrari’s in a long time. I love this new car.
Amazing re-creation of it here in Forza. Might just make me get an Xbox.

  • Bjorn

    Wrong article perhaps :P

  • http://racingrenders.com F1Racer

heh yeah, for the last sentence at least. I just saw a 458 video in Forza 3 too and I got confused somewhere in the middle of writing that post :sd:

Anway nice to see the 458 in both games but if was getting any it would be Forza as the PS3 costs more and GT5 won’t be out until the next solar eclipse.
