Gran Turismo 5 - Coming Spring 2009?

Various mainstream gaming websites report that, according to British Car Magazine, Gran Turismo 5 for the Playstation 3 is due to be released as early as spring 2009. Various added features such as vehicle damage have pushed the release date as far as 2010, making this rather surprising news.

Even though Car Magazine might be lacking a gaming-background, their information is somewhat backed by a recent interview with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, who hints that the game will be available earlier than people would expect.

While Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was already a huge success, Gran Turismo 5 is expected to be a new benchmark for racing games in terms of graphics and content, making it the most anticipated Playstation 3 title so far.

few months ago Kazunori Yamauchi said 2010 if all goes well.. now he says 2009.. take it with a grain of salt.
perhaps sony wants to give hope to increase sales before Christmas? :)

This has anti-climax written all over it - surely it can’t live up to all the anticipation that a 2010 release date would generate! It’s still going to be Gran Turismo at the end of it all. There can be nothing original left to put in, can there? Car damage would be new to the series, but there’s no way that that would make any steps forward for racing sims in general.
Does it have dynamic weather and day/night progression? GP4 is still the benchmark for wet/variable conditions imho (drying lines when the rain stops, refelective puddles building up, precipitation, dry tarmac under bridges, etc.), but I’d be very surprised indeed if GT5 had anything like that in it.

Even GT5P blows GT4 away, driving game can’t be taken seriously w/out cockpit-view, and FF in GT5P is so much better(with G25) than GT4. XO’s games are s**t ’cause that idiot Gates doesn’t allow proper wheels to work with XO.

Damage or not is totally irrelevant, racing game doesn’t need it, purpose is staying on the track, not crash the cars.

dunno.. a perfect sim (gt pretend to be the REAL driving sim which is completely a joke for a pc gamer) should be able to manage crashes. that said a perfect sim is far from done in 2008. sure they are much more important things to be done.. like having laser scanned tracks which makes the road much more realistic. i never blew an engine in GT, nor blew a tires or even any sort of mechanical failure..
the fact is that GT never share their technical “knowledge” about their games so we dont even know what kind of physic they have for the tires for example.. (do they have one?!) they only talk about the graphics and the revolutionary AI every time.. sigh
for console gaming i say it’s OK. but dont dare calling that a sim in front a pc sim amateur.
live for speed in 2003 had already a more realistic behaviour than GT5P has and that just shows that you can sell anything when you got neat graphics and publicity. I still believe the first one was the better, the serie hasn’t evolved much since imho.
GT is fun to play don’t misinterpret me. but a real simulator should have better priority than graphics..
    after all..

Hmm so I feel I might have bitten my tongue for making the post about the Spring release because when I think about it, they gotta start marketing this bad boy like crazy all now if they are gonna plan to release it soon. I guess however, since GT5P is already on the market, they must not be pouring out online content for us just yet. But 2009 seems to be the year since we have 1 solid source and 1 kinda decent source of news.

It’s its own kind of beast now I suppose, and it’s always going to make sense to make another Gran Turismo! The first one will always be the one that had the most originality, impact and influence. It was hyped to buggery and only just about lived up to it (in my case) - that’s why I don’t like to get hyped up about computer game releases any more!
Far better to have a site like this where great mods just … turn up … every day :)

I totally disagree with that point. At some point in time, the game itself would need a new physics and graphics engine. So I always look forward to new games and the back end technologies packed into it.
