Gran Turismo 5 – Closer Than We Think?

Posted on June 5th, 2009 in

Polyphony Digital’s stunning Gran Turismo 5 E3 trailer has left fans in awe but with no further info on when we´ll be getting our hands on the much anticipated title.

It may not take as long as many people think as creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said the following in an interview with Eurogamer:

“I want to release it as fast as I can, but GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it’s at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it. It’s very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail.”

That sounds rather promising, even though nobody can tell when Kaz and his crew will decide that they´ve added enough features and content. Back in December, Sony hinted a possible Christmas 2009 release, that may have been before developers decided to add major licenses such as WRC and NASCAR as well as vehicle damage to the title though.

According to stuff I read yesterday, September is when it’s out. Or perhaps the piece got confused with the PSP version.

September would be sweet, I’ve been hanging out to buy a PS3 since I sold my PS2 a couple of years ago but have been waiting till GT5 was released. Just need to convince the wife I ‘need’ it.

Yeah there’s noway GT5 is coming out this year. PD wouldn’t want to take any buzz away from GT mobile.

The PSP version will be out this year. I think people mix that up and then go around the internet saying GT5 will make it’s release in 2009.

I can wait, i rather have a game that works then having glitches, bugs etc…

Anyone know the parameters of the nascar licensing? It would seem to me that the licensing of nascar and wrc was not an overnight event. They could have been planning on incorporating these series for a long time as far as we know. Recently iRacing announced a Nascar partnership too. I’m guessing it’s possible that nascar has enough clout not to enter into an exclusive contract… but I think it’s more likely that nascar previously had a contract with GT5 shooting for a 2009 release. The iRacing contract is probably a 2010+ contract. Just my guess.

iRacing said they only enter into non-exclusive contracts, so its highly possible that they both have the licience. And besides they are reaching very different audiences.

oh, and the WRC licience is nothing new for sony, just new to gran turismo
