Gran Turismo 5 – Box Art Revealed

Just days after revealing plenty of interesting details in the Official Playstation Magazine, Polyphony Digital has now unveiled the official box art of their upcoming Gran Turismo 5 racing title.

The cover of the Playstation 3 racing title shows Mercedes Benz brand new SLS AMG coupe, a modern version of the legendary 300SL Gullwing. You can find the box art in high resolution as well as several renders of the SLS AMG below.

Gran Turismo 5 will be bringing 1000 cars and over 60 tracks to the Playstation 3, including new features such as damage, weather and day/night effects. The title has been announced to be released in March 2010 in Japan, dates for the US & Europe have not been given.

Obviously the game is already rated by PEGI, so maybe is not far from release in Europe. Hopefully, in April – May.

Amazing shots, but in-game shots I see the cars seem unnaturally shiny, and those shots… I can’t put my finger on it but there’s something… I can’t say wrong or anything, but just something aesthetically off, and I can’t figure out what it is.

Wish I had a PS3 as well. I’d so be buying this.

that was already known but gr8 to see it ready!
PD spent over a month in Mercedes factory just getting data and scanning in 3d this car inside engine and outside!
PD is showcasing GT5 running in 3d at this exact moment!

I find it interesting. The cover girl for Forza was the Audi R8, and GT have gone for the Mercedes.

It’s good to be a German car maker.

I know what you mean, they have something unnatural about them. I’d say they look… cartoony?

It’s too perfect somewhat, the tires could at least have some granular texture on them if they refuse to put dirt on the skins.

Maybe the GT5 engine will take care of the dirt build up once the cars are driving though and maybe GT5 will finally make use of the car wash feature that GT2 never required.

Yeah, the car wash feature in the old GT games was quite useless since the cars never really got dirty, just a bit less shiny.

I dunno if these overly clean and shiny looking graphics is a “Japanese thing” because I’ve noticed in a lot of other games by Japanese developers that their games often look very clean. Skins on people usually have no texture at all, they tend to look like plastic dolls. I think the new final fantasy game might be a pretty good example of that.

If you make good cars it will get the publicity it’s worthy :)

Can not wait to get the game :happyevil:
