Following their much-discussed showcase at the Consumer Electronics Show, Polyphony Digital is presenting their Gran Turismo 5 driving game for the Playstation 3 on two auto shows these days.
PD is present both on the Tokyo Auto Salon and the European Motor Show in Brussels, revealing some new previews along the way. The video below shows the Toyota FT-86G concept car in Gran Turismo 5.
Furthermore, four new high-resolution previews have been released, showing Gran Turismo 5 in full 3000-pixel resolution glory. To wrap things up, there are some preview shots of yet unseen cockpits in the GT5 demo shown at Brussels. Since these have been photographed off a screen, they don’t look nearly as brilliant as the high-res previews.
Gran Turismo 5 will be bringing 1000 cars and over 60 tracks to the Playstation 3, including new features such as damage, weather and day/night effects. There’s no date for either the release of the Japanese or the International versions yet.

Those cockpits don’t look so hot. I would trade 500 of those 1000 cars for some HD quality cockpits instead. That’s one thing shift did really well. Those cockpits are beautiful

Cockpit view wasn’t a problem of Gran Turismo ever … but the sounds, behavior of the cars on the road, environment of the tracks, etc … show these ones instead of stupid high res pics !!! I’m GT fan but really … nice pictures just for an idiot zombies who doesn’t care anything else just the nice graphic … I’m fed up with PD more and more … they just make us fool with this waiting and pictures … uhhhh

you like it or not those are the most realistic cars and tracks ever in sim racing when it comes to graphics. I want great physics more than anything but if it doesn’t look real then it’s not a sim it has sim physics but arcade graphics! GT5 is the first so called sim racing game ever to be truthfully a sim when it comes to graphics all other sim games including PC you can make out easily those cars are not real but GT5 can keep you easily guessing!

I’m playing with Forza now and I drive 8-10 cars maximum … so this number 1000 is ridiculous !!! Would have been better 300 cars but fully detailed in every aspect, I guess! But we will se …

They’ve really bullshotted that game up, everyone know that the actual game doesn’t look anything like that.

Sony and PD should man up and deliver real-time graphics like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuRMLp_xOz0 in 4k, full HD is so 2008
But I might give in and buy the damn ps3 and GT5 when it is released, GT has always been the only reason for me to buy playstation. Sadly the fun factor seemed to fade very quickly with previous versions of the game

Sheesh, the amount of promo stuff Sony are releasing for this almost makes Shift’s release seem discreet…..not a complaint, just an observation.
Clearly a lot rides on GT5 for Sony, seeing how its going to be released in March at best and they’ve already got the hype going on overload.

Just me or do some of those cockpits look like sh@#. Was really looking forward to this game but with some pretty big game release in 2010 just feels GT5 isn’t going to do as well as they might hope.

I love GT5’s replay graphics and still shots. They’re the best I’ve seen.

you guys say the interior shots look like sh*t, thats because some of those pics, the car is passing through shadows, wait til you see the dynamic shading going on and the a-pillar shadow move around as well as all other shadows inside.. your gonna be like “dammmm!!” . Forreal I havent seen any PC sim titles pull that off yet.
I wont complain about the over 1000 cars, unfortinutly they have to hype that since console gamers are spoiled by the Forza, Grid and shift games with all the pretty cars, cockpit views etc..
I hope it has a good multiplayer system.

700 of the 1000 cars will probably be Cheap Japanese Cars, I hope Not. I would much rather have 700 European cars and the rest American and Japanese Cars.

Looks like all the pictures of GT5 had been shot from poor tv. Why they can’t do it from a cable? Shure the real in-game view will not be so manga styled.

So what? Those little cheap cars are the most fun to drive with close racing and door to door banging! From what I get you don’t like the Minis, Lupos, Abarths, Beatles, etc just because they are no Enzos, MC12s, DBR9s, etc.
I bet you don’t even own a PS3 because if you did by no means you would complain of getting over 1000 cars and all great quality in FULL HD (1080p!
Just join the party or leave the door steps and go home

GT originally was mostly japanese cars in the first game, thats what i miss the most about it. but mostly the high performance japanese cars of the 90s, we dont need no suzuki aveos racing against vw lupos , now thats borring! lol

this racing game is available for PC ;) it manages shadows rather well and not only in 1080p but also in 2560×1600… unfortunatly you wont be seeing the hands on the steering wheel, that might bother some.

PCs are able to output whatever you monitor supports but that’s completely different because it’s upscaled resolution not native it will definitely look better just like watching an upscaled dvd but it’s not even close to full hd movie on blu-ray. Same apply to iRacing its no match to GT5 graphics which has native Full HD graphics!
Paul Kelly
January 18th, 2010 at 15:13
Are you serious? It’s not a sim if the graphics aren’t great?
Just how much is Sony paying you for this drivel? Or is this some sort of guerilla marketing ploy by Sony?
Paul Kelly
January 18th, 2010 at 15:15
GT always has advertised ridiculously unrealistic car counts by including EVERY variant of a certain marque and model. You see 34 different Imprezas, 15 different Skylines, 12 different Lancers, etc., etc., and Sony counts all of them as different cars.
Yeah, right.
Ark
January 18th, 2010 at 18:18
I love when people talk about “Full HD” like they get all of their information from a department store commercial on TV or a videogame ad. “Native Full HD”….do you even know what you are talking about? 1920×1080 looks like crap compared to 2560×1600. Period. The end.
Btw, “HD” has nothing to do with shadowing, etc..
