Gran Turismo 5 – 2.0 Update & DLC Coming Up

Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi has made a major announcement on Twitter as the Gran Turismo 5 creator revealed a major update for the popular Playstation 3 title.

The update is referred to as “2.0”, hinting at rather big changes as all past updates for Gran Turismo 5 haven’t pushed the version number further than 1.13. The update is planned to be available in the third week of October, more details on its contents have not been revealed yet.

Furthermore, Yamauchi also revealed upcoming DLC content shortly after. GT5’s main rival has relied on post-release content additions for quite a while now and it looks like Gran Turismo fans can be looking forward to new cars and potentially tracks as well.

I think this is excellent news.  I really enjoyed GT5, but there were some pretty glaring issues with regards to multiplayer.  My main gripe was with the lack of filtering options.  I really liked the shuffle races; I hope they expand that mode with more cars.  If there was only one thing I wish they would add, it would be a way to have only shuffle races listed.  Simple, yet they still dont’ have it…

As for more premium cars and more tracks, thats a given.  Who wouldn’t want that?  I would like to see every car and every track from the entire GT history in the game.

Oh yeah, I would like to see the G25/27 wheels supported properly!

Sounds interesting, but the thought of going back to the Gran Turismo Grind makes me throw up a little bit.

Hope they really have something hot under their hood, because at the moment, it looks more like a desesperate attempt to catch up with the F4’s hype…

I liked a lot about this game, and I’ll play it again if they release more content, and I even appreciate the notion that some cars should to be difficult to acquire, but I’m so so so tired of lapping Indianopolis because it’s the quickest/most painless way of making money. GT5 had worse grind than World of Warcraft, which just isn’t cool in a racing game.

I hope v2,0 means new physics as well… at least for the tire model… oh, and not to forget, canned sounds could be improved as well…

Is the DLC gonna be free?

  • Terrell Olvera

I disagree, while B-spec felt like a grind, it did not actually take much of my real time.  With the money I received from B-spec, combined with the money from the seasonal events, I have never had to grind in A-spec.

They should have announced it at TGS. I don’t think it will be huge but it good they are still supporting the game. DLC business is a farce though I hate how everyone are getting more money out of the game
