FREX GP at Work With Project CARS

The guys over at FREX GP have a reputation for building some of the most impressive and most professional sim racing gear out there.

Now, they have extended their software support to including Slightly Mad Studios’ quickly-developing Project CARS simulation as a new video shows the FREX SimconMotion & other gear in action with pCARS.

trying to race when the seat moves and the steering wheel doesn’t is the biggest fail i could imagine, sorry…

Gotta agree on that, whos stupid idea was that?

I even turn off all the silly “motion” effects on screen. They are unrealistic because we compensate for that motion. We do move and it does affect us, but in a different way.

I think they have enough experience to know what they are doing and why they are doing so.

    100% agree. :)

Proprioception- It’s been discussed at length.  Some argue it adds to the immersion, but in my experience the feel is not realistic at all.

    Not impressive at all imo.

Odd … the domed screen looks interesting but hard to tell visual quality.

You have to stop looking at the seat as a “seat”.

Anyone who has driven quickly on the road in an average road car, or done a track day in a typical road car will be able to relate to the body movements shown in this vid, not the seat movements, but just the  body movement, and of course in a real car the steering wheel doesn’t move directly with the driver either.

You have to view the frex seat as merely a vessel to move the body around, and as a secondary consideration for somewhere to sit (ie a typical seat yes lol), the primary role being much more important than the second :)

If you can get your head around that as a viewer you can come some to understanding the experience of driving in such a system, not perfect but certainly another way of attacking the whole motion experience.

Personally I don’t buy into any of the systems on offer completely at the moment, I do however have a clever design for such a system just no funds to realise it :)

2 DOF seat mover design simulates g-forces by creating similar muscle tensions normally produced by g-force effects …It would not be possible if anything else then the seat would move… It is very efficiant and the key remains in motion profile smoothness and overall effects mix…

Good point.  And unless you can afford something like the Cruden Hexatech,  most motion platform like the D-Box produces low amplitude movement that it can barely generate things like lateral pull (when cornering).

but in end, as we do with FFB, it’s all about fooling the muscle and brain into thinking that we’re actually driving at high speed.  In order to do that you need to keep our mind open to different approaches even if it doesn’t mimic reality.

I think Frex main problem is their price tag. I know they are great and all but common what Thomas did with Fanatec shows that a man with a vision and cash to burn :) can make quality products at a reasonable price. It took Fanatec a lot of failures and learning but with the CS series Thomas and Fanatec will finally start to get some great returns. Not bashing Frex I know they are at a much more difficult position than Fanatec but maybe things happen to take you out of your comfort zone and you stand up to the challenge or not!

Lol i smoke some marihuana before racing online every time and i swear im driving a real racing car when im busy.
I have only a logitech momo force, mounted on my desk behind a normal 19″ flatscreen, nothing fancy. If i am convinced this stuff improves my laptime, i will seriously consider buying it. But i was only convinced A wheel was better than NO wheel as an improvement over my trusty joystick.
I am not convinced this improves my times. Immersion then? sure if want actual movement.

I don’t think this setup will be for you if you’re “all about the lap times”. The extra vision the surround screen gives will help you not crash into other cars around you… but that’s about it. It’s mostly immersion.
