Forza Motorsport 4 – First Previews & Video

Turn 10 has used the E3 Entertainment Expo to announce that the newest edition of the Forza Motorsport franchise will hit the Xbox 360 in 2011.

Less than a year after the release of Forza Motorsport 3, the developer has shown first ever footage of the upcoming title at the E3, outlining some of the new features players can expect.

The presentation had a heavy emphasis on the new Forza supporting Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller. Unlike Sony’s Move and Nintendo’s Wii controller, Kinect works completely by motion tracking without the player having to hold any kind of controller. The new system will be used in the new Forza for head tracking and movement, players canlso a touch buttons and other controls in the car. The technology can even be used to drive the car by holding the hands in steering wheel position.

While the latter is certainly no interesting feature for sim racers, more impressive are Turn 10′s improvements in terms of graphics. The showed-off demo included an extremely detailed Ferrari 458 Italia model you can check out below, despite the stunning visuals Turn 10 has pointed out that these were live-rendered graphics running at 60fps on the Xbox 360. A short gameplay sequence shows a race in the Ferrari, demonstrating a new points-scoring feature similar to that in Need for Speed Shift.

Turn 10 has not yet confirmed the name of the new title or a specific release date. A fall release in 2011 is likely, both Forza Motorsport 1 & 2 have been released in May though…so the newest title of the Forza franchise might just be less than a year away.

    Looks gorgeous, it’s obviously not a sim though. Apparently you just steer, it auto accelerates and brakes while you steer with an imaginary wheel.

    Wow, Gran Turismo 5 is not even released and we Turn 10 is allready giving us Information about their 4th game. Maybe Forza 5 will be out before Gran Turismo 5 :cool:

    I’m not a big fan of Natal.
    But imagine this with your G25.
    You can look around, open the door and touch the button with your hands.
    And drive with the G25.

    If they get the physics good (not realistic, just good) I’ll just might buy it.

    It will most likely be an updated and re-released Forza 3, with new features. But not Forza 4

    So this is it? Ok you can walk around the car, nice. But where is the actuall progress? Gameplay graphics and car handling looks the same as before.

    this won’t be ingame graphics. this looks more like the special photo mode in Forza 3 to me, the models will be very detailed to check them out, but when it comes to racing i think there will be only some slight improvements to what we know from Forza 3. Maybe 16 cars at one time to keep up with GT5.
    this is gonna be more a Forza 3.5

    hehe, the xbox will not even be able to render the ground-texture seen in the E3 video (http://www.virtualr.net/wp-content/gallery/2373/bilder_62901n8uc.jpg) in a race. it’s all about showing off.

    What a lame and wrong marketing campaign to hook up Natal with GT5′s “contender”.. Although it might actually work for some people that are not so tech savvy, I imagine the lag on such a thing must be pretty noticeable (not to mention accuracy for driving). Corporations obviously bet their money that there are more stupid people these days than knowledgeable..

    I have a hunch that’s a render and not in-game. I’d say their idea of Forza 4 is just Forza 3 with Natal.

    Don’t get focus too much on the name, it has not been confirmed as written in the text – The media (and me…) just suspect that’s what it will be called.

    I´m not surprised the gameplay footage does not look very different than Forza 3 yet, please remember that the new title will probably be another 12+ months away.

    The emphasis on Kinect is obviously meant to counter Sony’s big Move presentation today, I don’t think the motion controller will be the main part of the title – It’s just that all the gaming media focuses on the duel of the two motion controllers right now so I´m not surprised Microsoft is using one of their main franchises to present their technology.

    Forza 4 (again, assuming that’s what it will be called) is way too far away to judge either the physics or the graphics…it’s just a little taste of what’s to come.

    I;m just going by the photo which they say is running at 60fps live. I don’t want to say Forza 4 is good or bad yet :P

    i think forza 3 is bringing the xbox 360 to an edge allready and therefore i don’t expect some major improvements.

    this! Microsoft is still realing content for Forza 3 and will charge all again with Forza 3.5!

    I don’t know how anybody can take this as a serious announcement. Look at it! it’s nothing but a bolt on feature for Forza 3. 60fps, wow so what? The input lag is ridiculous, ignoring the real issues again.

    Past presentation videos of Natal were already proven action-synching. They don’t even trust the product to work correctly for stage demos. Microsoft are milking everything they can out of the device, likewise for Sony, it will just end up an expensive disaster if they don’t market like crazy.

    It’s certainly good enough for looking around, i.e. a hands-free trackIR device, but that’s about it.

    So they let you navigate around the pre-rendered footage with your face, cool! Better than wearing a baseball cap with lights on it!

    Using it as a steering wheel might be to much, but it certainly can be used in sim racing, like making gestures to other drivers on the track :D

    This is not forza4 this is forza kinect :lol:

    The car will accelerate and brake for you all you have to do is like dumb move your hands to steer without any controller and you can move your head and body to look around.

    It is like a tech demo, the car control it self you just have to move you head that’all even steering is not right. The game plays itself. It is the demo of Kinect and these are bullshots like forza3 as usual :lol:

    But if they make forza4 and with this nice cockpit it will great.

    I paid 80 euros to get the FM3 LE and what I got was a half finished game (buggy multiplayer, dead dashboards in many cars, too freaking bright menus) and a bunch of overpriced DLC content (400 Microsoft Points per DLC)
    I’m not gonna buy again an expensive overhyped game like the ones you made, Turn10

    Just like the MW2 sh*t. Infinity Ward and T10 have promised much to their fans and gave them very few.

    I really am sick of the bullshit made up ‘screenshots’, I should be used to this made up crap by now but it still annoys me, For one this is a silly technology for the most part when it comes to driving and is obviously just being shown now as a stunt and in response to Sony who If I read correctly will have the head tracking for looking around cockpit in GT5 when it ever comes out which is actually the only genuinely useful feature here. Secondly and most importantly is the videos and still pictures they release to the press and consumers are COMPLETELY fake pre-rendered offline CG and not in game in the slightest, the demo they did on stage looked realtime if laggy but thanks to video compression it hides for the most part how inferior the graphics are compared to the bullshots they release. I do wish companies would stop releasing screenshots and videos and pretend they are in game?? It’s so ingenuous. From watching the video there is absolutely no graphical improvement here, from looking at the media they release the press you’d think they have leap frogged a whole generation of consoles …. misleading ASS HOLES, unfortunately ill still buy the damn game as it will probably be fun, but I won’t be happy about it!!!! :-P
