Forza Motorsport 3 – No Rain, Nightracing or Rally

After plenty of impressive preview material on Turn 10′s upcoming Forza Motorsport 3 title for Xbox 360, the studio has now revealed some less-impressive facts on their upcoming title.

To end rumors in the community, Turn 10 community manager Che Chou has now confirmed that Forza Motorsport 3 will not feature weather, night racing or rally cars. While the 8-car limit was something many gamers complained about, these missing features really put the new Forza title behind in their duel with Gran Turismo as GT5 has been confirmed to include all these features.

In related news, Turn 10 has released a rather interesting video, showing the crew at Le Mans where Turn 10 recently presented the virtual version of the Circuit de la Sarthe in Forza 3. Forza Motorsport 3 will bring over 400 cars and 100 tracks to the Xbox 360, the third installment of the Forza series will be released in October.

There’s seriously weather and night racing in GT 5? If so and the physics model and damage is at least up to Forza 2 standards, I don’t think people are even going to remember Forza 3…

Okay just read the link. “Damage for race cars” will be included. Nice one kaz, you continue to be clueless. Put the damage on ALL the cars, you have no excuse.

Yes, has been confirmed in Audi PR material on Gran Turismo:

It’s official then, Forza 3 just lost the war (but we knew that already  ) The video on the other hand, I really enjoyed that.

With the dev working on GT5 saying the trailer only showed a tiny part of the full game, all I need to see now is those overhauled engine sounds to deliver the hammer blow.

Typical console racer. Move along nothing to see here.

  • jbat17

what? at least have some night racing. and capped at 8 cars on track? is this a psOne game? well, it looks like one, graphically, compared to GT5

  • zudthespud

This is Forza Motorsport. It’s never had Rain, night races or more than 8 cars, but people still love the games. I would enjoy these things but i’m not going to miss them.

The community Forza 3 will have far outweighs the extra features that GT5 has.

And I’m not going to be a fanboy like previous posters, I really like the look of GT5 and have never been considering getting a PS3 as much as since E3.

  • Dillyracer

Well, that certainly makes it lose the LeMans spirit.

  • trebor901

I dont care about no night racing or weather or the amount of cars on track because as has been said already the community is great, the online racing is brilliant because we actually pay for Xbox Live.

  • Mr. A

Well, I’ll still buy both Forza3 and GT5 regardless of features. It will be interesting to see which game will get more play time in the end.

  • f0xx

Consoles just cant have all that stuff together, I mean many cars fully detailed running in Le Mans, and raining as hell, they just cant process such amount of data ^^

The video though quite amazing, I’d love to be one of those journalist, love cars… :P

the online racing is brilliant because we actually pay for Xbox Live.

    LOL

How does paying to play online make it any better than PSN???

  • trebor901

ummm because we pay for the service so the service is given more time by the people who run it. Where as PS3 online is regularly laggy and the store hardly ever gets updated. Xbox Marketplace gets updated daily and the online gameplay is a lot less laggy.

Well the problem with Turn 10 is that they seem to tease the community with every blog entry or posting in their forums. First they posted the picture of one of their offices. There were so many things related with rallye to see. A Subaru WRC fender hanging on the wall, a open book with a Mitsubishi rallye car on a page and two monitors with a historic rallye car on a snow track.

Then their community manager posts in their board that there won’t be weather, night or rallye in the game. On the other hand there were interviews with Turn 10 members that although there wont be dynamic weather and day/night cycles the events will have static weather conditions.

I think FM3 will be a great game but if there really would be only sunshine Forza 3 isn’t the definitive racing game of this generation. On the feature side there may be titles that will offer more but many features don’t guarantee a great gameplay.

Also I don’t get it why some of you think that Forza already lost the war or that these missing features put Forza behind GT5. Well they ANNOUNCED car damage, a weather system and day/night cycles but have any of you actually seen them in a real gameplay footage? We just saw some damage on ONE car in a pre rendered trailer. Also GT5 could still be a year away. Nobody knows when it will be released.

Sorry buddy but that E3 trailer of GT5 was ALL in game.

“Upon first glance the trailer might almost look too good to be real. I met with Kazunori Yamauchi at E3 to play the PSP version of Gran Turismo and the first thing that I asked him was if the GT5 trailer was real or not. He looked a little confused by the question and basically responded with, “of course it’s real”.” IGN http://ps3.ign.com/articles/100/1002423p1.html You can read the entire article to get a better explanation.

Also nothing on weather or day night cycles has been officially confirmed by PD themselves and until that happens we know nothing. It has only been hinted at or suggested. But guess what so has the release date of GT5 and we all know how rock solid that is .

I am getting both GT5 and FM3 because I know that they both will be a lot of fun.

Congrats to Polyphony for winning this one. I was dubious about Forza, and nothing I’ve heard so far has made me feel any different. The lack of any sort of rallying is a huge letdown.

I’ve had an Xbox for about a month and have already cancelled my Xbox Live Gold account. The fact is just like public servers on the PC, online gaming on the XBox is douche central.

And as I’ve said before, I wish people would stop banging on about “Only 8 cars!? WAH!” They’re so highly detailed that it’s like the ones in GT4. They can’t draw more on track. And to be honest over short races I’d rather have 8 amazing looking cars than 50 mediocre ones.

Whatever, I’ll probably still pick Forza up but my excitement for its release will never come close to the excitement I had got GT4.

An earlier poster made a good point. We haven’t seen anything from GT5 other than a CGI trailer and a whole lot of shi*talking from kaz. I want to believe what he says but I remember when he said about GT 4 having online when everyone was talking about Forza’s online features. It was cut at the last minute and he left a lot of people feeling burned.

He talks a good game about GT 5′s physics but nobody has experienced it yet outside a few people inside Sony. He said the same thing about GT 4 and that physics system was an incremental change from GT 3 that came up far short of Forza 1′s physics. The weather and day/night changes? Again nobody’s seen it outside of maybe some still screen shots.

So I want to believe that this battle is over but a part of me is thinking that this is the great PR man Kaz speaking again and half this stuff will get cut. He’s done it before when he wanted to steal the spotlight from Forza.

Oh and damage only on race cars is hella weak. I thought PD was tight with car manufacturers?

    great news.. for GT5

cant wait the moment GT5 beats the sh*t out of a forza3 .. and american fat fanboys will suffer long lasting embarrassment expierience!
