Forza Motorsport 3 – New Preview Material

Posted on June 4th, 2009 in

The E3 is still in full swing and new preview material on Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport 3 for Xbox 360 is available all over the place.

Below are two interesting videos. One shows the Gamespot stage presentation including gameplay footage, the other shows a Porsche 997 GT2 racing on track.

Gamespot also has a rather interesting hands-on impression article, mentioning some more features. Most of these are rather dull for sim racers since most of you won’t get excited about SUVs or the possibility to rewind during racing after making a mistake.

If I am forced to do even one race series consisting of an SUV, truck, or ANYTHING having to do with NASCAR; I will not even bother with Forza 3. Same goes for GT 5. Just because NASCAR videogames can’t sell worth crap on their own, they want to piggyback on another game’s success. That’s not cool.

Rewinding is a pretty nifty idea. Why? A story:

I despise Laguna Seca. Why? Gran Turismo 2. The license test in the Dodge Viper. I HATED that thing. Must have driven it 100 times at minimum. Horrible. I was losing all my time in the corkscrew. But of course I had to do the entire lap over again to get there. Had I been able to keep rewinding and perfecting my entry, I might not hate this legendary track.

As for you Sodapop… SAME HERE! I have no interest AT ALL in any NASCAR style shenanigans. And I’m only interested in racing SUV’s if it’s Top Gear style and they get destroyed.

Looking at the second video, the textures and sounds are quite nice, but MAN do the people driving these games SUCK!

Really hoping there’s a GT4′esque photo mode. Yes, I am a geek and loved that mode.

Now to watch the longer video and read the article.

Edit: Read the article. Dubious when it says about people into tuning and painting. I don’t give a flying fig about either of them. Especially tuning. (I think the whole ricer/tuner culture is rather silly.)

i complain and whinge often about the problems with rfactor, gtrevo and the like.

after watching this – thank simracingGOD we have those games. otherwise we’d be forced to play this utter sh*te.

i mean just look at the way the car steers. jesus.

    @UncleChuckle:

Have you ever played Forza 2? Tuning in Forza isn’t like the NFS tuning. In Forza it’s part of improving the performance of your car and not putting the biggest bodywork on a Golf.

For the SUVs. You don’t have to drive with them. But maybe there could be people out there who will have fun with these monsters?

The same with the livery editor. For the simracer it’s not that important to create fancy liveries and share them or sell them via the auction house. But there is a rather big community that loves painting and to be honest it’s nice to see different paintings on the cars during an online race.

So doesn’t this look just as good as Sony’s entry? Better tire modeling and tyre deformations! Does GT5 have that?
Come on guys. Will it be Forza3 or GT5 that is King?
