Formula Two – Showroom Previews

The Simco Modding Team has released a bunch of new previews of their Formula Two mod for rFactor, showing the Williams-build F2 car in the showroom.

Launched in 2009, The FIA Formula Two Championship is meant to provide young drivers with a chance to compete in top-tier motorsport. The series uses a standard chassis built by Williams, the cars are powered by Audi engines that put out 400hp. The series offers a boost-feature that extends the car’s power to 450hp for up to six seconds, ten times during a race.

Yesterday’s Formula Two round at Brands Hatch made the headlines for very wrong and tragic reasons though as young Briton F2 driver Henry Surtees died after being hit by a loose tire bouncing on track. Surtees had no chance to avoid the tire which knocked him unconscious, he died in a London hospital yesterday evening. The son of former F1-champion John Surtees was just 18 years old.

Sad to hear about Henry Surtees,
    May he rest in peace.

 Very sad indeed about Surtees,, Its Ironic that his Grandfather survived the most dangerous time in F1 History, and yet with all the technology we have today, that an errand wheel would do that… Very sad indeed.. I think closed cockpits like Jet fighters will not be far off now…

It was obviously the blow to the head that killed him as it was a nothing crash, and the wheel, given the speed he was traveling the tyre hit him about 100-120mph.

Very sad time. As f1lover says, it’s sadly ironic his father survived the darkest times of F1.

Though it was a freak accident, and I would hope there will NOT be ridiculous knee jerk nonsense like there was when Senna died. Freak accidents will happen. That’s racing.

    Closed cockpits will NOT happen.

There was also a rally co-driver killed this past weekend as well.
