It might be another long while until Slightly Mad Studios’ Ferrari Project is out, you don’t have to wait that long to drive your favorite prancing horse road car though – Thanks to Ferrari Virtual Race.
The official Ferrari racing game lets you drive the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and Ferrari 430 at Mugello, one of the company’s trademark tracks. The game is not supposed to be a real simulation but more of a driving game, if you enjoy Ferraris and titles like GRID or Gran Turismo it’s worth to be checked out for sure.
The current version of the game is single player only, an online-version as well as new cars like the Ferrari California are already in the pipeline.

Which full game?

March 30th, 2009 at 09:29
It does 170KB/s here and well yeah that’s slow..
And indeed scca1981, what full game? This is just a free game from Ferrari. has nothing to do with the title SMS are doing.

I assumed it had something to do with the Ferrari project. I was hoping I was wrong because this isn’t worth the download.

It has nothing to do with ferrari project, afaik there is system3 behind FVR.
However the models and the track layout are quite good and maybe it should be ported to some other platform (hint scca hint)

Too easy.. But gameplay is what GRID should have been..

HDR haters should un-tick the “minimal version” setting or run the FerrariVR_Hi.exe

It’s not a simulation by any means, but I honestly thought it was alright enough. Games like GRID and NFS should feel like this, at least it felt like there were four tires and an engine on the car, which isn’t something I can really say about most racing games these days.

I think it’s a great game. I mean… you get it for free FFS… And there’ll soon be a multiplayer-edition available, well that’s awesome!
The handling is fun I’d love to race with some friends with this – it’ll be awesome when that’s possible.
The only thing that annoys me a tiny bit is the sounds… I think they’re just horrible xD

How do we know this isn’t SMS? If it isn’t SMS then who is it? The track looks nice from the screen shots and videos. All the video’s I have seen are button beaters. It would be interesting to see if the physics could be tweaked for more realism. I need to download and check this out.

We know it’s not SMS because there is System3 website at the end of the page, together with a link to their website among the shortcuts after the installation.

I agree with others, that Grid should have been at “least” this good in terms of physics. This is by no means a sim, but it’s so infinitely better than Grid and NFS in terms of playability. I actually played this for a little while and semi-enjoyed it. It’s too bad System3 won’t get behind some good physics and make this a proper sim, or at least a little more hardcore.
Man, I’m really starting to love Ferrari’s. I always liked them, but something lately is really making me attracted to them. I LOVE 612 and 599. They’re true tourers you can do real mileage in, and they haul ass.

Not bad for a free game. Cars look nice, Track looks great, especially the grass. Sky is nice too.
Be nice not to have so much traction and a bit more steering input would be good.
I thought we’d have better sounds coming from the Italian marque themselves, but again, for free its nothing to complain about.
Its not sim but I dont think it was meant to be. Its fun for some quick and dirty driving where you dont have to think too much. Kind of like the equivalent of watching a Steven Seagal movie. You don’t need your brain switched on.
Thats not a bad thing sometimes.
Yeah, not too shabby at all.

I have trepidation in responding to this free sample sim, and what my opinion to it is. I’m cautious because it could be released to gauge our reactions to it by System 3, and with SMS paying attention as well. I’d be afraid that they may say to themselves, “Look, they like it! There’s no real need to put too much resources into a hardcore/realistic simulation. Or just not right now, in these difficult economic times. There is a viable market out there for this, even for the community of sim racers.” To me it seems it’s just part of good business sense that they’ll be paying attention to this, even in our forums. You know the saying, “leave no stone unturned”.

Uff, I didn’t notice that. Cool. So maybe there is still hope that SMS can do it the right way.

I also agree with previous posts. If GRID (and DIRT) would have had physics similar to this (even though it is simplistic) it would probably have been a lot of fun.

How about we use some of the content in rFactor or GTR 2 or GTR Evolution? If it’s legal of course.

It seems FVR is developed with assets from System 3’s Ferrari Challenge semi sim for PS3. At least it looks pretty similar to that game. Let’s hope they’ll add some of the FC “sim” features to this game.
Although even in its current stage FVR is very fun to play and looks pretty good for a free game.

You’re welcome.

Not that I know of. For me the most drivable way is to set it to a lower turn degree in the wheel profiler.

Hmm i haven’t driven GRID that much, but if you say THIS is better then huh. What first came to my mind is that this is not better than NFS most pro street carbon wanted. And i still mean it. Gran turismo is waaay better then this.
And i also hoped for some good sounds, but these are crap.
Disclaimer: i know this isn’t meant to be a sim in any way :)

The game only works with one gamedevice.
So i can’t race with it.
As my pedals & shifter are on a other controller.
Anybody has a bright idea?

For sure i can mix multiple joysticks to one with ppjoy.
Is a nice solution.
But i do not think i still have forcefeedback.
Is a bit lame to drive such a game without FFB

It doesnt work with the Xbox 360 gamepad with the XBCD drivers. I use XBCD so that both triggers are on seperate axis for brake/accel. I tried to set both in game, but the brake is on. I have to press brake in order to let off it. This unfortunately breaks the game for me so I cant play it.

I feel great FFB here. Deadzone (in game) set to 0. I have connected two wheels (momo and dfp) still effect are there (on DFP) Ideal range is at 420 ;o) Finally I fully agree with drowsy
PS: With wheel its too easy beat AI on hard with no assistance etc. in one lap :/

Plenty of FF with G25. I love the physics. I did do the INI, change mentioned above. It was a little more tale happy. It’s a hoot to drive. Get’s two thumbs up from me.
P.S. Yes the A. I. aren’t much of a challenge. There all to busy trying not to scratch their Ferraris.

If you have weak FFB or no FFB in some racing games, try to set the spring effect strength and the damper effect strength to 100% in the Logitech Profiler.
This works very well with NFS Porsche Unleashed, so I suppose it will work also with FVR.
Usually these settings are turned off in our wheel settings, since the most modern sim engines work better without them.

The models, specially since they include full interiors seem worth the effort to port/convert out to other platforms.. Sadly this game isnt even NFS fun… imo a waste of 300mbs on your HD.
