Mikemav has put together a very interesting video tutorial on how to replace the wheel rim of Fanatec’s recently-released Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel with rim from Fanatec’s GT3-RS wheel.
The idea behind his effort is to equip the multi-purpose console compatible Turbo S wheel with the much nicer feeling Alcantara leather grip the GT3-RS offers. His video tutorial is very in-depth, you can watch the first of seven parts below – The full playlist with all part can be found here.
Even if you don’t plan to make such a swap yourself, the videos are well worth watching for all Fanatec wheel owners as Mike shows and explains a lot of the wheel’s mechanics. Stay tuned for more on the Turbo S wheel as VirtualR will be having a full review in a few days time.

Thanks for the compliments. I must say the GT3RS wheel is one I paid full price for, but the 911 Turbo S is a beta test wheel. The Turbo S I paid for has not been delivered yet. So I was playing a bit with a net, if you will…

Nice
It was interesting to see the wheels from inside and how they are build and they seem to be really of high quality. Your “mod” does involve some risks and i personally think that once taken apart and pulled back together the risk for future problems increases. But these are things you will have to worry about

Here I am trying to talk my wife into letting me get a G27, and here you are with 2 top of the line wheels already in your possession. Wanna sell one?

Hi, I want to keep these two, for my son and I to use, but believe it or not, I have others. I have an original 911 Turbo wheel and pedals and gearshift set I’d be able to sell, but it only works on PS3 and PC, not Xbox. If you’re interested let me know how to reach you and we can discuss more. Where are you located? Local is better (I was going to try to sell eventually) but I guess it doesn’t matter…

Hi,
Does the original 911 Turbo also have the clutch and 6 speed? I kinda want that if I am going to buy one, that is why I am not getting the cheaper Logitech wheel with just the plastic pedals (even though I have heard good things about that wheel). If it does have that then I would like to ask how old it is and how much noise does it make? I live way up in Northern New York about an hours drive from Canada. If you want to email me directly my email is gmbjr@slic.com, and I will be waiting to hear from you.
Thanks,
Gary

Hi, follow up. First, all is working with both wheels. Thanks for watching the vids!
If you’re in the Loudoun County, VA area and are really into sim racing, let me know- we should probably get together for lunch or something to meet. I work in Sterling and live in Leesburg, VA. I’ve been sim racing about 3 years now and dove in headfirst as you can tell by the vids.
Anyway, I have an unfinished basement and my zone there is mid-way through what I consider my ultimate sim setup. Using 3D display, TrackIR, modded Fanatec gear, stereo Buttkickers, 80/20 aluminum custom cockpit frame, the works… Just no motion actuators (yet- maybe next year.) I’ll have 3-way heads up racing soon; my old rig is going to my son or guests to sit besides mine, and there will be a 3rd wheel/pedals/portable wheel stand/PC for setup #3. My main setup is Xbox 360, PS3 or PC compatible.
Anyway, I’m very handy at some things and not the best at others. I have an audiovisual and electronics background, not construction (so unlike Spicoli’s dad, not much of a bitchin set of tools!) Mostly though I could use a second set of hands for an afternoon or two here and there, so I was thinking of sharing my info and toys with someone who might want to learn more and work on completing it with me. I’d be willing to pay for some of your time as well, but would like to find interested people as step one, and then talk details.
So if you or someone you know is into sim racing and might be able to lend a hand in the area, let me know. I’m a late 30s business professional with a single family home and live with my wife and son. I work with many techs who are younger (and some who are older) in my day job, so age isn’t important. I’d prefer to meet anyone who might be interested to discuss further, so maybe we could catch lunch or something nearby. So drop me a line on the YouTube account if you’re interested.

Hi Gary-
The original 911 Turbo did come with Seq and H pattern shifters (as well as small behind the wheel shifter paddles) and a 3-pedal set including a clutch. There is more info on the wheel here:http://www.fanatec.de/html/index.php?id=210&lang=en
I’ll send you an email to follow up. Thanks for the interest.
