F1 2013 – First Preview Bit

A first small piece of preview material of Codemasters’ F1 2013 title has surfaced on Youtube.

Even though the new title has not yet been announced, the Caterham team has released a first video of their driver Charles Pic in F1 2013 as the new version seems to feature rather detailed face models of the drivers – Maybe for a new feature?

F1 2013 will once again bring all cars and drivers of the yet-to-start current Formula One season to the PC and gaming consoles. After F1 2012 moved further away from what sim racers would consider a realistic title, it will be interesting to see where Codemasters’ F1 franchise is heading this year.

Five seconds of a disembodied Charles Pic head rotating slowly. That’s possibly the most bizarre preview I’ve ever seen.

      Agreed, lol.

Creepy. Maybe they’ll have a zombie mode.

        lol

this somehow improves driving experience? Wrong direction, codies.

I think they are trying to focus on the F1 experience this time around and make things like your own driver and stuff. Just pray they have a team focusing on actual driving!

I remember people here complaining about the lack of Podium celebrations. I think this could be related.

perhaps codies should deliver the laser scanned tracks they spoke of when they first
jumped onboard the f1 money making bandwagon….

    • http://twitter.com/StuartBecktell Stuart Becktell

That won’t help much at all. Just be expensive and 90% of their intended audience wouldn’t understand what it gets them.

Indeed, no one would notice. And the people who actually take effect of the laser scanning dont play the game anyways.

It is great pr though, give the guys who play the game the suggestion they are actually driving the real thing and they’l buy it.

Could this be the laser scanning they were talking about?

        But true ;)

Among the new features is going to be the ability to apply Makeup to your favorite drivers. I think I’ll go for a light pink eye shadow and ruby red lipstick for vettel.

What colour nail varnish on that annoying finger ? I know what I`d answer to that but I`d be outside the posting rules :)

Ohhhh thay’s mean…. :p but fair…… You’d run out of that colour if Schuey was still in F1….. :D

While I only played the F1 2010 game I would love to see something more of the experience, like making your own driver, your own helmet and with your own sponsors, thatw ould give the feel you are actually driving in the F1 World championship. It would add a lot to the experience of the game.

    • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

That would be good. I wish one of the current or developing sims could give us that. Where we can have our own helmet that follows us regardless of what car we’re in. But then there’s the chaos of all the different helmet shapes.
Wouldn’t be practical in something like rfactor 2 I guess but could have worked in say GTR2 or something like that.

The problem with universal helmet shapes is that some shapes don’t make sense for certain cars. For example, F1 helmets are sculpted for aerodynamics so they don’t get sucked off the driver’s head and an open face helmet wouldn’t make sense like it might for a vintage sports car.

That said, some variety in the helmet shape, within reason, would be great. Get three or four styles of formula racing helmet, another 4 sports car helmets, and a few club racing and vintage helmets, then pick from among them depending on the car you’re in.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Yeah this is why I said it wouldn’t be practical. But if they could do something like what you mentioned, it would be great.

I have no qualms about the practicality of it (iRacing already has different helmets depending on the car you’re driving), just that the type of helmet shouldn’t be completely mismatched from the car otherwise it ends up looking silly.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Yeah exactly. Which is why we’re not seeing it (having your own personal helmet) in the likes of iRacing or rFactor where you drive different genres of racing.

Next generation consoles are coming this year, that’s why codies must improve graphics vastly.
