F1 2012 – Young Driver Test Gameplay Video

The guys over at t InsideSimRacing.tv have gotten their hands on an early copy of Codemasters’ F1 2012, sharing a long gameplay video with us.

The video shows the Xbox 360 version as we`re taken through the Young Driver Test feature of the new title. A second video shows a three lap race at Monza against the AI, both the tutorial-like Driver Test and a race will be part of the F1 2012 demo that should be out in around 10 days time.

F1 2012 will bring all cars and drivers of the current Formula One World Championship season to the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The title is due to be released on September 21, a demo version will be available around September 14.

They really need to start putting some more work on their character models, in all F1 games Codies have released they’ve always looked as if they are trying to eat your soul. Which is weird considering that the cutscenes on Toca 3 looked great (they were pre-rendered, but still), I guess they were probably outsourced.

  • Lemming77

Did I imagine that, or is there actually a key point in the driver test where it teaches you how flashbacks work?

I know Formula 1 teams are technologically extremely well equipped and sophisticated. But I think the flow of time is beyond even their control.

It’s not like they need the extra space/ power for Physics or anything…
So yeah people should look legit.

  • Mr Banana

Are you trying to imply that Obama would rather play iRacing???

What do you expect…….they are simulating track DayZ after all ;).

  • Valtteri Vienonen

would like to see how it looks on ps3

So lewis loses front wing by knocking the rear of your car.

Still manages to keep up and race normally, then doesn’t pit for a replacement, but continues around.

    Yup, we’re done here.

The “immersion” achivement unlocked was almost like someone was trying to be ironic. lol

  • Valtteri Vienonen

Yep. Look at the speed he’s going through Parabolica without front wing. I remember when Webber lost his wing before Parabolica he ended up going straight to the tyre wall.

  • Anonymous

but Webber’s wing got stuck under his car so he couldn’t do anything…

  • Valtteri Vienonen

Wrong. He locked his brakes and got huge under steering cause he had no front downforce. Wing was gone way before that.

onboard sounds pretty much same ol same ol…

With the young driver test tutorial I think Codies should up a little on the physics, or even better a lot. The way the brakes locked in the straight line test looked so stupid, and then I am being nice, I dont think it could be worse. He is just full braking and out of a sudden the tires lock and there is smoke, it isnt happening ‘out of a curve’ no, it just happens.

sorry than, I must have confused it with some other accident.

Really…….it was a 3 LAP race……damage is never on when its a 3 lapper, this is why no speed was lost when loosing his front wing !!

Too early to comment authoritatively, I think. We have a demo to look forward to this year, so no-one is going to have to buy this one blind, merely on the strength of what’s being shown on YouTube. I’m not expecting the last word in simulation, but if they have made the driving more satisfying that will probably be enough to persuade me to take a third plunge. Still can’t believe we’re not getting recordable replays though. This is a game with a some really nice eye candy and it’s such a shame we can’t make the most of it. The old replay store workaround in F1 2010 would be very welcome, after its absence last year.

You’ll be able to do that when the demo hits the streets.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Fraps is the answer to recordable replays.

**see reply to Kevin McDonald above**

Not defending the game in any way, but perhaps there is a Visual Only setting for damage, that way things could fly off the car but not affect the driving model. I dont even know if this setting exists in the game…but it could be a possibility..

Fair point, but it’s a pain not to be able to do this fully in game, with adjustable camera angles etc.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

yes, it is an annoyance. Thankfully they are supposed to have got rid of those ‘impossible’ panning/chase camera shots that we’ve seen in the previous 2 titles (and pCARS has them too). Be nice to see proper track-cam shots.
Fraps though does a far better job than an in-game recording because you get it in avi format all ready for you to mess around with.

It does INDEED exsist and anyone who has played 2010 and 2011 would know about this aready…..do the haters that are writing on this page clearly just write negative comments when they properly havent played previous titles, if they had then they would know !! Although i do hope this is better then 2010 and 2011, they are slowly getting a little better each time.

  • Lars Volz

No, you were right, 2011 it folded under the front tires and became a sled.

  • Lars Volz

I think if you’ve owned 2010, 11 etc you should be able to pick up your career where you’ve left off or start a new season with the same clout you’ve developed. Much the way you’d have to step into a 2012 car after a 2011 season or another example is: if you’ve signed a contract with ferrari for next season while you’re on Merc in F1 2011 you should be able to pick up your career on Ferrari if you buy 2012. Does any of that make sense to anyone?
