F1 2010 – Two New Rain Previews

Following up on the weather-themed third developer diary video that was released yesterday, Codemasters have now released two new preview shots of their upcoming Formula One 2010 title for the PC, Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

The shots show a full field of cars lined up on the grid and racing in the rain, the much-discussed brownish color tone that was present in earlier preview shots is now completely gone.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released in September 2010.

Now the first one finally looks impressive. Nice rain effect and the colours looks much better than previous shots. Its Interlagos track?

  • triskele10

After all these rain previews I hope that I can switch the rain of in the game.

  • Dark Racer

    Looking really good.
Does anyone know if dx11 is confirmed as I have just upgraded my video card?

  • f0xx

Looks alot better now, nice :D

  • Uff

    Frankalexandre: Its Interlagos track?

    I think it is.
Works are definitely progressing well on this game: it’s becoming more and more interesting day after day!

Does anyone know if dx11 is confirmed as I have just upgraded my video card?

It’s using the same engine as Dirt (Ego) which is DX11 compatible by default :)

These shots look stunning. Love how the tyres look wet too.

Although the new photo viewer is crap. Ads are always blocking the pictures and it keeps hopping up the page :(

  • Siggs

Those are some sexy shots there!

And fyi, I never use the image viewer, I open up all images in separate tabs, and close them one by one as I look at them. faster and less clutter. Of course, no offence to the website design, it’s just my way :)

  • Y E S

    Very very nice renders.
I hope we’ll soon see real ingame shots, and i wonder if the actual 2009 version run correctly with 12 teams as the 2010 version will contain? That makes 4 more cars on the track.

  • Howie47

Notice the heard of cattle in one picture! I’ve seen much other specific detail. Like windmills, partially destroyed castles, etc. Landmarks like those in a large driving environment are a good thing. What other game has such a large environment to explore, and still have high res. textures, 3D trees. etc.?

    Y E S: Very very nice renders.

What makes you think they’re renders?

  • Uff

    Y E S: Very very nice renders.

Man, you should just stop using your fantasy and watch things for what they are. First with 2009 cars, now with this… come on.

Man, you should just stop using your fantasy and watch things for what they are. First with 2009 cars, now with this… come on.

Dude, you’re nice, but you should start by putting your lessons to yourself, please …

First car for 2009, I thought, I hoped that my explanation was simple and complete enough that you can understand, apparently, no …
I can only refer you read what I said in another post, I really bothered to repeat myself, I already said everything…

I hope you’ll remember our discussion when you see the 2009 season available for download for F1 2010.
Personally, I’ve never seen any content created for a video game, which found no outlet commercial use, license or not license.
Believe me, the Codemasters Guys will look at this with Bernie, and everyone will make money.
Anyway, on this point, and whatever happens, as we know, neither you nor I, I ask that you remember our discussion, as I remember myself, by honesty.

I could quote you many examples of video games, where developers had given a version of the story, and oddly had a different outcome from what was expected.

For example, the additional content of GTA4, for instance, were exclusive to the 360 sworn promise.
Today, you can find it in all PS3 video game stores.
Please, we have made a bet, is not so entirely on your version …

Then for renders, in fact, I’ve seen videos, like everyone else here, I hope the final game will be as beautiful, and will run as well with 24 cars on track, not 20 like the 2009 season.
Given your comment absolutely conquered, you seem to be part of people who believe that a such video game that run as it still has a margin of RAM quite consistent.
Of course, a little over three months of the game’s release, it is normal to see cars running with 2009… who will go to the trash, once the game is in stores… :sd:

I’m waiting for the final game, I’ll buy it anyway, it is almost certain, but please, when someone has a different opinion than you is a small effort compliance.

  • Zenitchik

The cars do not look wet at all, and the color saturation is not reduced when the weather is cloudy.

I hope it will at least look more real when they release it.

The asphalt looks like glass. Wet roads in real life do not like this. It also looks like the water film depth is constant across the road, once again real roads to not look like this, they look like what Zenitchlk posted. Finally I think the asphalt texture is all wrong,

You will always get people who look for faults, real or imagined. The truth is wet tracks look different depending on how wet the track is and how hard its raining at the time. If the rain has stopped but the track is flooded you can get a very reflective surface. These screenshots should not been seen in isolation – a few days ago video of the wet weather effects was posted which in my view demonstrate it better than a couple of screenshots. The video clearly showed the “patchy” effect people are complaining they can’t see in the screenshots.

Does it look perfect? No. Does it look much better than anything I’ve seen before? Yes – by miles, including rF2 shots. Nice variation in reflection in the first shot, and rain drop splashes in the second shot – wow! Just hope my PC can run it.

hehe, jeah david, here’s hoping too that the game will not be too “hardware hungry”. i have never seen anything remotely similar to this in a racing game or any other game – concerning the rain/spray/waterdrops/… effects.

hopefully rf2 will be as awesome too (even better?!) when it comes to rain racing. :-)

  • Uff

spliff: hehe, jeah david, here’s hoping too that the game will not be too “hardware hungry”.

Well, if we exclude Dirt1 (which was REALLY heavy) Grid and Dirt2 were definitely much better on this aspect: I only tried the demos as I’ve never bought those games, but I was to run the first at maximum detail even with an old 8800 GTS 512.
I’m quite confident, on this side.

look at the GTR2, actually codemasters managed to achieve the same desaturated look. Surely they can fix it with a single uppercut to one of the “artists”, no doubt there.

The visuals in the video that was posted previously do look very impressive, just those exaggerated filters, they make it look strange.

water droplets look almost like on this photo

Agree on colors. They decreased brown tint but beyond the cars the environment is still almost black and white with no colors at all while in the real nature colors sometimes are even more vivid under a rain as it washes all the dust and dirt out. Hope they will do true colors as an option. I’m personally too tired to see almost every game colorless and gloomy nowadays. They should go back to the natural palette .

The water effect on the asphalt is definitely a step forward and do looks impressive even if it’s not 100% realistic.

Well thats probably because if it was 100% realistic, you’d be getting wet.

True, but in that case it was Microsoft who paid for the exclusve, not Rockstar. Here it’s not Bernie who’s paying CM for not putting 2009 content in-game, it’s just the opposite.

Then for renders, in fact, I’ve seen videos, like everyone else here, I hope the final game will be as beautiful

This doesn’t answer to the fact that these screens are normal in-game screens and not renders.

you seem to be part of people who believe that a such video game that run as it still has a margin of RAM quite consistent.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t happen: nowadays we can run GTR2 with 50+ cars under the rain at maximum detail. That game has a 5 years old engine. I can’t see why a modern game, fully optimized, couldn’t run at maximum settings with that quality. In reality I expect even something more on PC, as those are console based screens.

  • racedriver

I do not think game will look this good but the trailer was  Hopefully the gameplay will be nice. I am sure gfx will be really good and less yellow, bloom filter

  • Y E S

    @ Uff,

    Point 1)
Already answered many times in our conversation…
For the last time… you can argue anything on this example about differences beteween RockStar and Bernie, it doesn’t change anything in the fact that things are often differents from expected, and said by editors.

    Point 2)
Ok, “Renders” was not the correct word i should have use, anyway, as i said before and for you to understand better, i hope the game will be as nice as this and i hope these screens haven’t been too much “Photoshoped”. We’ll see in few month…

    Point 3)
Talking about PC just don’t mean anything.
For example, if you play rfactor, the game will be very different between your PC and mine.
As you know, it depends on your GC, and the Ram you have, and i have. Your PC could run easily 50 cars, and my PC could have difficulty to run 10.
For the same game, there will be differents optimisations as differents PC.
I own also a 360 and a PS3… and particulary for console, it could be a big difference between runing 20 or 24 cars. All the demo we see seems to run 20 cars, i hope it will run as smooth as this with 24.
Since the beguining of 360 and PS3, i’ve seen lot of games very beautyfull and runing under 30 fps… The question can be asked, and we’ll see if the game is correctly optimised, or running under 30 fps, or with a downscaled resolution.

(I apologize if some words are not correctly chosen, i don’t speak english very well, i’ve got lot of work actually and don’t have the time this week to write and use a translator to make a better text.)
