F1 2010 – Three More E3 Gameplay Videos

Following yesterday’s much-discussed F1 2010 videos, here are three more examples of gameplay footage from the E3 Entertainment Expo.

The first video shows the difference between driving with and without driving aids. Starting at 1:30, the assists are turned off, causing the driver to really struggle with the car. Keep in mind that even though traction control, ABS and brake assistance have been turned off, the game does not seem to be running in the highest difficulty level as the car suffers no damage from hitting the barrier.

The second video from Golem.de shows some of the smoothest driving we´ve seen so far and once again highlights the sophisticated wet weather effects. And finally, a third video shows some footage of the title’s replay system.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released in September 2010.

first video with all assists off seems meh.

but without wheel we dont know yet.

  • FONismo

For me personally i think iRacing’s graphics are extremely impressive and the best i have seen with regards to looking realistic. But this looks phenomanal inpaticular the tracks in the wet. All the talk is good i just really really hope the physics can match the looks.

Not really fussed with graphics personally as as said i find iRacing the perfect blend of eye candy and top quality physics, same goes with NetKar and even rFactor with say the HistorX. But i do still love some eye candy.

All the posts abouts the physics are stupid really as it’s being played with a pad, i will make my decision when try it myself.

I still think it is nonsense that only 12 people max online. They wanne make a real sim out of it and then they do that.
Also i asked them many times why only 12 nothing comes out.
I mean if you make a sim the number of people online should atleast be all the cars. So in this case 26. And NOT 12… Its embaressing!

  • TheSTIG

Looks stunning. Thanks god the FSONE will be here in a few day to ease the wait for that one…

  • Mee

Kubica’s yellow Renault looks weird in the second movie.

  • Zippy

    Looking real good … agree w/Jermainesmit too … 12?

  • Jermainesmit

Yeah only 12 even for PC. I mean Rfactor can run up to i dont know how many. But what i know atleast 71. And then they come with a stupid number like 12. I mean come on!!! Sim is about online racing!

  • Zippy

Jermainesmit: Yeah only 12 even for PC. I mean Rfactor can run up to i dont know how many. But what i know atleast 71. And then they come with a stupid number like 12. I mean come on!!! Sim is about online racing!

I’m pretty certain it’s a balance against graphic details, polys and such … Always a trade-off, but it does look pretty spectacular in these vids …

  • stabiz

What do you mean? Only 12 cars at one time in single player as well? If not, why only 12 in multi?

  • carbonfibre

So I noticed the steering wheel isn’t connected to the front end.

I thought that was active steering, but this video shows no aids.

  • Cenotaph

hopefully this will be a good game, not the f1 simulator we wish to have (if its true, a 12 car limit online is a dead giveaway this is not a realistic experience by any means), but still if its a good game ill give it a shot, i just hope it doesnt handle like Dirt or Grid as i can’t stand those games.

Cant wait to see this in 1080 res and dx11!

  • Jermainesmit

@Zippy for allot it wound. A sim is not all about looks. I mean if it was all about looks we would drive other games then Rfactor. It is more about the driving options. And look will not make it up.

@Stabiz max 12 people Online. Witch means it cant be a sim already

  • Jermainesmit

    @Cenotaph

Codemaster itself told to someone it was 12 max online. Only they dont give any reason. Witch is frustrating

  • FONismo

What about dedictaed server support? Surely you can support more that way? I have not really paid much attention to this game and if that is true it seems unbelivable that they are going down this route.

  • http://rantsonf1.wordpress.com rantsonf1

Anyone knows if any of the controller makers will be releasing a replica F1 steering wheel controller for this game on either PC or Xbox360?

  • Jermainesmit

Fonismo. I think it is still the same then. They really say max.
And it is just something that makes me mad. I mean it is not the year 2000 8-) then ok. But 2010 come on man :S

  • Firestarter

12 players online is a major turnoff. In 2010 32 players should be minimum.

  • scca1981

lmao so only 12 players online means its not a sim? Hell most of the online racing I do in rfactor, Evo and GTR2 we barely get 10 people on at once and 70% of them don’t finish the race and quit.

Multi-player has NOTHING to do with the physics being simulation or not. That is just stupid.

  • Firestarter

No, the low fidelity physics means its not a sim. 12 players max online means its just out of the question to use it for league racing whatsoever. And your online racing must be crap.

  • Jermainesmit

    @scca1981

Maybe you do, but league what about that? The sim races full distance. So 12 is not sim. You cant make it like real driving against others in a league fighting with 26 cars and stuff. Sure in training there not always 12 but in league races they reatch far above 12

  • Jos

well you should look for some better leagues then, 10 players

  • scca1981

I’m referring to public pick-up races. The point i’m trying to make is multi-player doesn’t determine if the game is a simulation or not.

    Amazing one this vid!
i want this game so bad

  • http://racingrenders.com F1Racer

Yeah the HD video looks incredible. When they first restarted the race, the raindrops hitting the puddles on the track surface looks so damn good. Best looking rain I’ve seen in any game.
And I suppose Vitaly Petrov leading the race isn’t too far out of reach if it was a wet race. Anything is possible on the grid in those conditions.

The replay at the end looked incredible! This on my 24″ Dell Ultrasharp is going to look the biz.

The keen eyed amongst us will notice that the streaking water drops on Jensons car (around the cockpit sides) do slightly change direction when the driver takes a corner, and the react to braking and acceleration too. Very nice.

I have heard this morning that part of the licence agreement with FOM (Bernie Ecclestone) only allows for one car from each team to be human controlled in multiplayer, hence only 12 human players online. But I also understand that the grid can be filled up with AI cars. So seems like the licence has meant that CM’s hands are tied in this matter.

Info can be found here http://simhq.com/_commentary/all_101a.html

‘The F1 license stipulates that only 1 car per team can be driven by a player, so the max multiplayer grid is limited to 12 human cars, with no team duplication in a race (thanks a lot, Bernie). However, AI cars can be included to fill out the rest of the grid’

  • youyou

beautiful graphics but weird if you pay attention when the car is under a advertise panel or a small bridge you will notice that there is no reflection of it on the car like a said a small effect but a big difference without it ehmmmmmmmm

What a useless and nonsensical stipulation that is. What’s the point of that ?
Sounds to me like the more you pay the more you get. CM’s budget obviously has limits and Bernie has very deep pockets.

  • driving god

Release has been confirmed as September 21 for the U.S, and September 24 in Europe. I don’t have a source, but it’s all over the Codemasters forums.

  • http://racingrenders.com F1Racer

Plus they said it in the HD video link that was posted.

  • ForzaBarca88

Oh wow, thats amzing detail with the weather

  • Jermainesmit

Slim that is nonsense. I mean why would the ever have done it with other games then like ea and stuff. Codemaster always has it for only 12 players. Look at Grid. Max online 12.

  • the_last_name_left

Looks both amazing and rubbish. Aesthetically, brilliant. It looks fantastic. But watch the car over the grass? Watch its handling in the wet? Does anyone really think you can drive an F1 in heavy rain like that?

Codemasters……looks nice, crap physics. That’s been true for 15 years? Why would it change now?

  • eiwfihaaa

the fact that Codemasters chose to demonstrate their amazing new F1 game, the first for a long time, with a 360 joypad………..tells you all you need to know about this game.

if it was remotely a driving game in any way they would have demo’d it with a steering wheel.
this game is going to be utterly pointless, unless they get the multiplayer spot on. Thats the only thing that can save it and potentially make it fun – because the driving experience won’t be.

  • rich1701

Yeah, It looks like they have balls up on the physics, even on “hard” settings as demonstrated the car still looks hopelessly unrealistic in the way it behaves. It does not look much more advanced than Grid in this respect.

  • Jermainesmit

The last name left. I have to agree with you. Offcurse we dont know what physics they have on now. But i sure hope they make it better because he is just going on that throttle hard at the rain. And that is not with a steering wheel so then the throttle goes even harder in. You should have hardly any control left

About the online thing seen it and Bernie is to thank for that option. Stupid do. Only 12 because of him. Why did he not do it at other version pff sick man!

  • youyou

and look at the wheels , when he steers , the wheels aren’t synchronized with the driving wheel ehhhhh and they say that is authentic or a close to a sim RABBICH

  • pleb

    One word:

    Alpha.

  • the_last_name_left

I think these guys deserve a lot of credit for showing people how it should look….and maybe even how to structure a game, which rFactor, and MS FlghtSim badly lack. But there’s only so many processor cycles, and you spend them as you will. But only once.

Personally I’m happy to compromise ‘hardcore’ physics for the sake of ‘feel’ – I’m not a simphysics fundamentalist. But only to a degree. The goal is to model the experience and if the physics are way off, people notice immediately, a priori. Even infants understand gravity – they won’t crawl off a cliff.

But it looks fantastic, for sure. Hopefully there’s more to it?

  • Rooster

I’m sorry, but this looks like over-glorified crap……like GRID. If they have balls and work on physics 100x more than graphics, I wouldn’t be hating GRID or the DIRT series.

  • michael

driving god: Release has been confirmed as September 21 for the U.S, and September 24 in Europe. I don’t have a source, but it’s all over the Codemasters forums.

Believe it when you see it.

The twitter feed says there’s no damage in yet. There was clearly no “live the life” in the demo (which is a waste of time anyway, but obviously something they will want to finish before selling the game)

The guy says on twitter there’s a ton of work and it’s clear that, although what they did demonstrate looks very good it’s far from finished, let alone polished.

I’ll bet several bunches of bananas it won’t be finished in 3 months (and they don’t even have 3 months, because there clearly cannot be zero time between the game code being finished and the game being on store shelves)

They are (again from twitter) clearly already working at 120% in terms of hours etc, so they can’t simply work harder to get it finished (and let’s face it, the next 3 months are the 3 months when the sun is shining, the sky is blue, the kids are off school and everyone wants 2 weeks off to go on holiday…they’ll be working hard to try and get folk on the project to not do that…at least any that have a family)

Let’s hope I eat my words, but they’ve already said “F1 2011″ – whether that’s the title of what you’ll be buying I don’t know, but I’m fairly sure 2011 will be the year you buy it.

A couple of months ago I had a list of games I wanted to buy in 2010, they are all delayed until 2011 now…
