F1 2010 – Third Developer Video Trailer Released

Codemasters have released the third of their developer diary videos, showing us brand new footage of their upcoming Formula One 2010 title for the PC, Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

The new trailer focuses on the title’s weather system as we get to see lots of new wet-weather gameplay footage from the title’s alpha version.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released in September 2010.

Ive been one of the sceptics about this game, but each passing video is more and more reasuring.
The graphical ‘brown’ seems to be almost eliminated.

The proof tho, will be in the physics.

I hope they get it right!!

  • DeadStar

Physics is the key. Also the ability the mod the game.

  • Maddy

The graphics look stunning. I hope the physics can keep up with it.

  • Jos

off course there is no brown when there is no sunshine, when the suns shines there will be brown and bloom again…

anyways, the wet track surface looks superbly realistic and the physics that come with it sound superb too.

All of the things they say are things that have been promised for rFactor 2, it’s pretty funny really.

  • Dillyracer

You can say what you want about the handling, but this weather system looks more interesting and realistic than anything other devs have ever tried.

  • Slimjim

it’s looks really good… but your not really going to be able to say one way or the other until you have given it a test drive….Judging by the way Dirt 2 was made, and physics, they might be heading in the right direction..
Anothy Davidson may be able to point them in the right direction.. but remember they still need to sell a lot of coppies to turn a profit, and that is the main goal.. so saying that, this title does look very promising and i’m looking forward to the release….
1 question and maybe most important for me…. are they going to include all the tracks from the 2010 season.?

  • Uff

Slimjim:are they going to include all the tracks from the 2010 season.?

From what we know the answer is yes. On Twitter thwy talked about the new Silverstone too.

I’m really pleased to see that we will finally have a really dynamic weather: track will evolve depending on where cars pass and not only with a pre-calculated effect! This is a great step forward that every sim should have too, in the future.

  • CHRISSQUIRE

Slimjim: 1 question and maybe most important for me…. are they going to include all the tracks from the 2010 season.?

Yes. Every track in their 2010 layout (i.e. the longer Bahrain track, the new arena section at Silverstone, etc.) and all the cars off the current season.

  • Wil

I cant undestand why they do not include this stunning 2009 cars in the games! They look superb and should be cool progress from 2009 to 2010 on that career mode! Who wanna play 2010 season for 5 times? came on! This so called career mode only can get sense with diferent seasons.

  • creatorex

Not bad comments for the first time :) is it good? heheh. It seems to be amazing. And is a prealpha lololol. I want to reach september but I prefer my summer be looooooooooooooong:P

The answer to this is easy: F1 license doesn’t allow to include 2009 cars. The game has to respect what FOM tells Codemasters they can do and what not.

Codemaster has already the 2009 license (WII and PSP), and i bet the 2009 season will be a downloadable payable content for F1 2010.

No, it won’t be: they’ve already confirmed it (read What We Know So Far thread on the official forum).

Beleive what you want… i can bet with you the 2009 season will be released.
Companies like Codemaster NEVER create content for free.
It’s not because something is said on the official forum, that it won’t happen…
The 2009 cars season seems to be all created, and i’m sure Codemaster don’t want to admit it will be released before the game is in stores, but as i said, this kind of companies sell everything can be sold for paying a such developement period.

Helios from Codemasters here, just wanted to confirm that the 2009 cars will 100% not be being released in any shape or form for F1 2010.

    For now you can bet…
I bet on my version for later…
Of course, you mentioned the official Codemaster forum.
I don’t say it’s actually planned, i just say i will very surprised if this content isn’t release in the future because it’s already created.
And for sure, it wouldn’t be the first time when an editor change an official planned version.
Of course, i’ve heard it was not planned, anyway i still bet on a future release.

  • Harpo245

Well if it isn’t Helios. When he’s not fighting the PLA single-handedly in Skira, he’s holding the simracing skeptics at bay on VirtualR :D

  • joseki

This is so HC Sim oriented blog that it is very cool to have someone from Codemasters here commenting stuff. In fact it is the very first thing that gives me some hope against pure arcade experience.

If enough people wanted them I’m sure we would love to release them, I mean as you can see they’ve all been modelled. However our license with FOM for F1 2010 means that this isn’t possible.

Didn’t you buy the 2009 licence? What about the last year console versions?
If not, i know Bernie isn’t a cool guy about this questions :sd:
Personnaly i would have love beguining the 2009 season and end with the 2010 season when i’ll play carrer (i know it’s not planned).
Thanks for your answer, and i hope Bernie will become a cool guy, when he’ll see the success of your game.

  • Helios_CM

Our license agreement with FOM that enables us to create the official games means we have to use 2009 cars/tracks/drivers for F1 2009, and 2010 cars/tracks/drivers for F1 2010.

  • vik15

Nice weather effects indeed but the game still looks very unrealistic colors wise and way beyond GT5 and Forza in regards of visual realism. It’s a bit less brown than before but still very far from a real nature. It looks almost like a kind of slightly tinted black&white picture. You probably need an extremely over-saturated monitor to see any colors. I’ve never understood really why games make all that brown, indigo or whatever color grading instead of trying to recreate the true natural colors that any decent camera is able to produce.

So you could release F1 2009 for PC too. Man your 2009 cars looks fantastic! Dont scrap this such piece of work… You only should adapt a few circuit changes. :sd:

  • Firestarter

These are the most advanced track surface visual effects ever. I guess it`s heavy use of pixel shaders. Really happy that they make it so dynamic. Now i hope they make the physics good aswell, instead of making it mediocre to suit everyone.

Well it seems unlikely this is showing them getting rid of Grid’s brown as these pictures aren’t new footage, it even says “pre-alpha” over the top of them and it’s still the 2009 cars.

Once again it’s just 3 guys talking about the features they’d like to put in a game whilst showing some old video footage. So obviously it sounds good. I’m having a party next week “I’d invite Megan Fox, Kylie Minogue, we’ll have it on board a big luxury boat in Monaco, the flights there and back are free. The beer will be free…” Sounds good? But, what do you think the chances are of it actually happening? :D

I still doubt this title will ever get released this year and suspect instead there will just be a title released in 2011 (which could be either the 2010 season or next seasons)

  • bergqvistjl

@Helios_CM, What’s your opinion on Grand Prix 4 by Geoff Crammond? Just asking because I think this game will be the first to finally top the weather and possibly pitcrew effects that that game had (bearing in mind it came out 8 years ago).

  • bergqvistjl

I think he meant that if the game has ’2009′ in the title, you can only release it with 2009 cars, and the same for 2010. Although you could do what EA did with F1 99-02 and call it F1 09+10 or something similar, that way you might be able to release both seasons in 1 game.

  • bergqvistjl

Also @Helios_CM, as your releasing the game (i think) towards the end of the season, if in the real-life season there are driver changes in the teams, will that be reflected in-game? And if not, can I ask why?

  • Helios_CM

Drivers in the game cannot change teams, though of course the player is able to do so. This is because of license restrictions.

  • Harpo245

    Makes sense.

  • bergqvistjl

    Helios_CM: berg

No I meant, if for example in the real life 2010 season, someone gets kicked out of the team halfway through, and say, the team’s test driver replaces him for the rest of the season, can that happen (like in 2006 where Yuji Ide lost his superliscence after only two races, so he was out for almost the entire season, yet in F106, he was ingame for the whole season)?
