F1 2010 – Spa Reality Check Comparison Video

Following the reality check comparison gallery posted a week ago, below is a new comparison that tries to show off the realism of Codemasters’ upcoming F1 2010 title.

The comparison video shows footage of a real Spa Francorchamps lap alongside the much-discussed Mclaren at Spa gameplay video, allowing us to judge the accuracy of Codemasters’ track modelling.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released in September 2010.

It’s no iRacing, but looks pretty good. Just a few areas where the bridges didn’t line up, or a longer stretch between a corner here and there.

  • F1Racer

That SPA video comparison is damned impressive.  Not only is the track accuracy exceptionally good but if you watch the upshifts and downshifts timing they are very close to each other, and not only that, they end up downshifting to the  the same gears in the braking zones.
    Very nice.

  • scca1981

Considering it isn’t laser scanned i’d say that’s pretty damn close.

  • mykem

I believe it’s laser-scanned.  It’s one of F2010 best feature is the fact the tracks are laser-scanned.

  • Ace_Racer

No it isn’t laser scanned, they said originally the tracks were going to be, but then later decided against it.

  • mykem

You’re right.  I guess it’s even more impressive although it’s really not that surprising.

  • Creatorex

Steering wheel ratio needs to be revised.

  • 07wtcc

wow, at first couldn’t realy say what is real and and what is virtual :)

  • Aaron Carlisle

    http://www.virtualr.net/f1-2009-more-spa-francorchamps-scans/

Spa actually is a laser scanned track.  According to a very realiable source, it’s the only laser scan based track in F12010.

  • Mark

Looks pretty damn decent, but I feel it could have been even better with some more carefull attention to detail, for example none of the curbs are the correct type or width, sounds like a small thing I know but in F1 the type and width of a curb can make all the difference to whether you can use it or not, all the curbs in this game so far look flat and easy to ride……

  • Klaas Jan

This looks very good imo. I really hope the physics are on par with the visuals.

  • Firestarter

It looks quite good and thankfully the colorscheme is much more natural looking now, compared to the brownish shit previously.

  • Craig

It looks good, took me a second to decide which was the game.

However I think the ‘dirty air’ effect isn’t very good – watching the McLaren following nose to tail through some of the fastest corners. In real F1 that isn’t possible, but perhaps they did this to make it more ‘fun’ (easier to pass).

  • DeDios

ISI, in rF2 we need some exceptional quality tracks like this.

  • Blaarontjes

I doubt it. I could see some fundamental differences, which you wouldn’t have with laser scanning. Yes it does look good for a non laser scanned track, but with laser scanning the main point is the bumps, which you won’t get right in non laser scanned as you can’t see it from pictures or what ever.

  • Pascal

This is my video, I slowed Real Video, so as to compare Track

remember that E3 is built, Steering sensitivity was corrected

    Sorry fo me English :)

     Thank you for  coments

  • kapten_zoom

aaha okay, i thought that the mclaren was to a bit quick! Did’nt know you’ve slowed it down. Superb, this is actually a buy for me, never thought it was going to be!

  • Floptickle

    Incredible!

  • GalangaX

    Pfffft

who need -not me thats for sure- this one when one month later you’ll be able to play this game?

    16 vs 12 players online

    60 vs 30 fps

and many of the tracks available on F1 2010 is already in GT5 (Monza, imola,Spa,suzuka,Monaco, silverstone etc)

  • Prent_F1

Come on guys it will never be perfect but damn this is really impressive!!! For sure F1 2010 will be on my hard disk till F1 2011′s release! ;)

  • Pascal

    But GT5 isn’t on PC :)

  • F1Racer

It is if its Hamilton at the wheel :)   I’ve seen him do that a few times this season.  Button too through turn 8 following Schumi if I remember.

  • F1Racer

I bet you I`ll be getting a lot more than 30fps with F1-2010.  Also as Pascal said, it’s not on PC so a redundant argument.

  • Uff

And I don’t think Monza, Imola, Spa or Silverstone are in GT5.

  • GalangaX

If you’re a PC simer then i don’t see any reason (except curiosity) why you should waste your money into pseudo sims like this one and not to something far more serious like iRacing for example.

  • GalangaX

    Yes and No

The names i mention are just a few examples of the rumored tracks (Brands Hatch,Valencia,Estoril also)as the history has show us though everything that has been rumored on GT in the end it proved to be right (Night/Day Cycle,Track editor to name a few)

    That’s inside PD’s studio

  • Knarf

They allready said these will be revised

  • Knarf

I do think that Aaron might be right.
CM really did some laserscanning in the beginning of the project and they did releasy lasershots of Spa so it means they really did scan Spa. It would be pretty stupid to not use the scanned data they had.

  • spliff

    gt5, lol..

  • NascarBud

Very Constructive Comment spliff  : /

    10 ?

  • Ross Siggers

Tbh, let’s not pander to a fanboy, eh guys?

  • racingfan

    1 F1 car v 24 F1 cars

    6 F1 tracks v 19 F1 tracks

quick race v Grand prix weekend’s, season’s, and career modes

Limited damage v full damage model

multiplayer isn’t going to be perfect on either, if you want good multiplayer go and join iracing

  • F1Racer

GalangaX, I’m also subscribed to iRacing.  The two aren’t mutually conclusive and I fail to see how you can judge F1-2010 as a pseudo sim without playing it first.   Also I might differing levels of realism.  I don’t have to confine myself to hardcore.  If I want to have a blast with TDU or Blur I will.

This idea that if you don’t play hardcore only that you are not a real sim racer or whatever is purile.
iRacing is as far removed from the real thing as Sega’s Pole Position is to iRacing.

    1) You don’t know that, the Redbull collaboration shows otherwise

    2) i’d rather have 70+ tracks than 19 which many of them are Utterly boring (instanbul Hungary Bahrain valencia etc)

3)what make you think that GT doesn’t include all these modes and much more? don’t answer me ,your ignorance.

    4) Ignorance again here, just to inform you GT has full damage too

    5) i’ve had 3 month membership last year,no thanks

    anything else?

  • Captain Underpants

Yeah. How much are you getting payed for that sales schpiel?

  • Wesley

Yep sure GT5 has full damage, for 5% of the cars only lol, wow that is great. Other cars only can get scratches, wow thats great.

    To sum it up

    1 F1 car vs. 24 F1 cars
70+ tracks(wich are mostly boring lol) vs. 18 tracks(and even more extra tracks)
Fake sounds vs. Real F1 sounds
Fake, arcade like physics vs. Real F1 psychics
    No Setups vs. Setups possible
12 racers vs. the full grid
No mechanical damage vs. Mechanical damage
No moving tirewalls vs. Moving tirewalls
Overuse on car detail vs. No overuse on car detail
5% of the cars has cockpit vs. All cars have cockpit
2+ year delay vs. no current delay
    PS3 vs. XBOX 360, PC, PS3

Do i need to call more where F1 2010 will be better?

  • Wil

amazing video. Not only by the Spa accuracy but I liked the way of AI defended its position holding its defensive line instead of hammering you like rFactor and others…

  • GalangaX

    Sigh

To be honest, looking at that GT5 clip, it looks more real then all the clips I’ve seen of F1 2010. Both are arcade though, so keep on dreaming.

  • F1Racer

I’d love to visit the arcades you are going to.

  • Harpo245

    Track looks spot on :)
