F1 2010 – PC Version Minimum Specs Announced

Codemasters has revealed the minimum specs required to run their upcoming Formula One 2010 title on Windows PCs.

Recommended specs have not been announced yet. Since the title features lots of spectacular graphic effects especially in rainy conditions, sim racers should expect the recommended specs to be more demanding, especially for higher resolutions.

- Windows XP/Vista/7
- DirectX 9.0c
- Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz or Athlon X2
- 1GB RAM (2GB for Vista)
- Graphics Card: GeForce 7800 / Radeon X1800 or above
- DirectX Compatible Sound Card or motherboard audio
- Dual Layer Compatible DVD-ROM Drive
- 12.5 GB Hard Drive Space

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released in September 2010.

  • Philip Oakley

Ugh, I nreally need a new graphics card now lol, I’m still on ATi Radeon x600…but I’ll get one in 2 months :)  an ATi Radeon 5570

  • Gaiajohan

    Pretty reasonable I think :) .

  • Ernie

    5570?
You didn’t spent much money for your simracing career. ;)

But ATi is a good choice, referring to the problems which Nvidia-powered gfx-cards have with gMotor2-games.

  • Ernie

Yes i know that F1 2010 uses the EVO-engine, but every simracer is playing simulations with gMotor2-engine. ;)

  • Uff

Not for too long, hopefully (as the next GTR should have its own engine). :-D

  • F1Racer

I think with my i7-930 4.0Ghz Quad core monster with its NVidia GTX480 and 6GbRAM should be ok then.  Phew, I was a bit worried there for a while ! ;)

Whats the minimum monitor size ?  :-P

  • F1_fan_1

At least 34″ I think: Otherwise all of Bernie’s money wouldn’t fit on the screen.

  • F1Racer

heh.  Well I only have 24″ Dell Ultrasharp.   That might get Schumachers forehead in or even Alonso’s ego.  erm… ok forget Alonso’s ego.  You`d need to play it at the cinema for that. ;)

  • Chris Karsten

Yes MY PC can RUN IT!!!

  • Taylor Ling

Phew, luckily my rig still can play it well I guess. They mentioned that if your PC can run DiRT2 well then should be no problem for F12010. Can’t wait for the release, really!

  • jimmy

Great, F1Racer. I am glad you told us all the configuration of your “quad core monster”. You must be a proud man now!

  • jimmy

I am afraid you’ll need a whole new rig to play new simracing titles properly…

  • Philip Oakley

Well, I’m completely rebuilding my PC from the ground up.

    Provisional specs

ATi Radeon HD 5770 (Yes, I made a typo in my last comment :P)
    4GB DDR3 RAM
Windows 7 (I already have it)
Intel Core i5 Quad core 3.0ghz
And some nice fans to go with it :)

  • Carbonfibre

Bet he doesn’t care about noise though. Overclocking quads and having them cool and quiet is the trick. :-D

  • Turkey :D

Those are some generously low system requirements. I cannot complain! :)

  • Turkey :D

    WILL IT BE ON STEAM??!?

  • Carbonfibre

    @Ernie
As long as gMotor2 engine is the only exception to that brand performance then I’m a Nvidia fan for every other game in the world.

Off topic/ ATI just looks tacky, compared to a more sophisticated Nvidia. Intel vs AMD, similar story. I’m not geek enough to care only for numbers and such.

  • jimmy

I don’t think they are ‘generously low’. Just standard minimum specs of today. I don’t think the game will be pleasantly playable on such configuration.

  • james davies

I’m happy and I’m sure my mate will be too (as he rolls on a laptop) just got to wait now :(

  • stabiz

A bit interesting to see what kind of systems the virtualr posse have. If the game is slightly entertaining, I will try to run it on my current setup:

    ATI HD 5870
Core2Duo E8500 (3,16ghz, will overclock when I can muster the nerd strength to do research)
    8GB DDR2
    Win 7
    G27
    27″ Samsung

  • stabiz

Thats not off topic, its off line. Drive through for you. Seriously, that post reminds me of some very annoying forums.

  • Ernie

    Playable, but ugly.

Okay …… many simracers did not have an eyecandy-fetish. :-D Not all, but many ot them ;) .

  • jimmy

Well, my config is quite below averge… E5200, HD4830, 4GB RAM – but rFactor runs mostly smoothly on max settings and that’s enough for me. But e.g. SHIFT with AI cars sometimes heavily stutters, it’s almost unplayable, so I don’t think I’ll play F1 2010. But I am absolutely contented with CTDP 2006 and Formula Armaroli – best F1 mods up to date IMHO  8-)

  • Kyle Williams

Damn thats me screwed, i dont have 12.5GB free space.

  • mikemav

I had asked this before, but is Helios or anyone in the know w/ Codemasters can answer, I’m REALLY curious to know if they’ve tested w/ Nvidia 3D Vision active stereoscopic 3D setup? rFactor, iRacing, and NFS Shift all work really well in 3D. Dirt2, sadly, does not due to some objects rendering at wrong depth in 3D, so Nvidia does not recommend it. Hopefully a simple fix but I know this game is based on the same engine as Dirt2 with a lot of modifications and updates. I will be in heaven if this is somehow resolved for F1 2010! I’m by no means made of money but I’d even consider fronting the dev team a 3D Vision starter kit to try. Or, buddy up w/ Nvidia or get out the corporate card Codemasters, it’s only $199!  Fingers crossed…

  • Jos

never gave an arse about minimum specs, woohoo i can play the game but super ugly!

  • Dinyo TTaiwo

Cool I will have all requirements when I buy new computer

  • Wesley

if you cant play those games well with that i should check your system software and optimisations. For example i have no real problems running GTA4 on medium with An Athlon X2 5600+, an HD2600XT(yep, the bugged version) and 4GB of ram. Also other games like DiRT2 and GRiD werent an problem, and my pc is way worse then yours, so i should check your software.

  • RKip

If anyone thinks they’ll be able to run the game at those system spec’s is dreaming, IMHO!  Why do developers do this?

  • RKip

Yeah, if you would have cut back to 4GB Ram and a GTX 460 (tom’s hardware proved they’re just as fast and over 200 cheaper) you could have picked up a 32″ or 37″ LCD  8-)

  • RKip

What Problems???? I run GTR2/Evo all at max quality and I have a GTX 280 and ran it before for years all on Nvidia Cards

  • F1Racer

@jimmy, man you have no idea. To be honest it was an opportunity too good to miss.  I’ve been on a high all day since posting my specs. I just couldn’t wait to tell all you guys who couldn’t care a toss.   Oh did I mention my PSU wattage ?  1000 W it is.  And my HDD space ?… well… lets not even go there !   oh oh and the CPU cooler…yikes!    muhahaha ;)   (Photo’s available on request).

@Carbonfibre, its quiet.  Thankfully it was built properly.  Even the internal CPU fan is on the side so the air circulation, along with the case fans, flow it from front to rear. Also my case fans are speed adjustable to it can be quiet as a mouse or as noisy as a mouse shouting.  It’s quieter than my older quad core extreme which wasn’t overclocked.
Right now it’s rendering so my CPU is at 100% for the next 15 or so mins.   I can barely hear the machine.

@RKip,  well I could’ve afforded as big a screen as I wanted really.  But I’m not into ‘em.  24 is plenty for me.
As for the RAM, well I need plenty of that for my rendering.  Hence also why I got a seriously quick CPU.    Thing thing renders in half the time of my old 3.0Ghz Quad Core extreme.

ooh I just got a high again…  later guyz :)

  • F1Racer

Yeah playable but ugly is probably right.  When games companies say minimum, they mean minimum.  In other words you can play it but you`ll have to turn most of the settings also to minimum.
It doesn’t mean the minimum specs in order to play it maxxed out.  I would be curious to know what they are.

  • Rich1701

I hope the pc version will have some scope to be visually superior to the console versions. I guess all you can hope for is the usual AA enabled and higher res.

  • Raymond Tsui

Think they’ll use DX10 for higher specs?

  • Philip Oakley

    DX11 more like

  • Raymond Tsui

I don’t know about DX11, there aren’t a dramatic improvement to DX10 and not many cards out there even fully support DX11.

  • David Wright

Philip is right – Codies support DX11 and DX9.  Codies had a lot of support from AMD/ATI to produce the DX11 variant – my guess is without this support they would just support DX9.

  • Gaiajohan

    ATI HD 4850
    Core2Duo E7300 @3,33ghz
    4GB DDR2
    Win 7
    G25
    22″LG FullHD

Should run fine, as Dirt runs @ 1920*1080 and 8x AA in dX9

  • Dale

SInce it will be designed for XBOX 360 and PS3 then it should run fine on a GTX275 and Q9550. Dirt 2 and GRID run at 60fps at 1920×1080 with AA enabled. Codemasters know how to make beautiful and efficient graphics.

Too bad the phsyics will be just like Dirt2 and Grid though :(

  • F1Racer

How can F1 physics be like DIRT2 which is rallying ?   Are you expecting these cars to go off-track and drift and powerslide on the grass ?

It’s getting tiring having people talk about this games physics as if they’ve already played the latest version and are quoting as if it’s fact.
It’s pure guesswork.  Pure and simple.    Wait till you try it at least then you can diss it, as you clearly will seeing as how your mind is already made up based on videos and reviews of alpha versions of the game.

  • David Wright

I’m afraid many racing simmers have fixed ideas, like racing games come in just two kinds – sim and arcade, and all console games are by definition arcade.

And to be fair, Codies do have a long history of poor physics, especially when driven using a wheel.  I too was a Codies skeptic until I tried Dirt2.  The grip levels are not realistic but the underlying physics are good and when driving with a wheel you do feel like you are driving a car, which cannot be said for Grid.

And if people with closed minds miss out on F1 2010, why worry? :)

  • Raymond Tsui

He is saying that it’ll feel like DiRT 2 and Grid because they utilize the same game engine.

  • Mr. A

But Dirt2 and Grid’s physics (and FFB) feel completely different, to me at least.

  • Gaiajohan

    Agreed Mr. A

FFB of Dirt2 is pretty good. FFb in GRID is the worst i’ve ever felt. Also physics.
    GRID – hovercraft simulator
    Dirt2 – driving game

  • F1Racer

@Raymond, well that doesn’t necessarily work out.   Looks at all the different physics in all the rF mods.  Same game engine.

  • Dale

LOL. I figured I would get some responses from that. No I just hope it’s an actual sim of F1 and not like an arcade game like Dirt2 or Grid (although I agree that Dirt2 feels a bit better than GRID even though we are talking about rally versus street). Being that it is released for XBOX and PS3 I am kind of worried but I was just being a bit cynical there ;)

  • jonneymendoza

Are you kidding me? DIRT 2 is as realistic as mario kart

  • jonneymendoza

There are many dx11 cards out mate. the 5870/480gtx aint the only ones mate. 5000 series have lots of mid to low range dx11 cards. same as the 400 series

  • jonneymendoza

agreed. the minimum to play this with most settings high getting near 60fps at 1680 is a 260gtx or a 4850.

    thats minimum

  • jonneymendoza

LOL nonsence. what res you running gta4 at? 240x 320 on your iphone? LMAO

  • Jayforce

I have a question in regards to Eyefinity, as there was support for it in DiRT2 I am hoping it will also carry over to this game. Does anyone know if this will be the case and if so will there be any improvements to FOV in relation to resolution and camera choice? I run my Eyefinity desktop at 6048×1200 in all my racing games and the FOV in DiRT2 is just stretching the outsides a little too much for my liking and there is no gui adjustment for it. Rather you have to go and fiddle with a whole heap of different camera files. This is something I have never understood, why can’t we have a dynamic FOV that adjusts with resolution and camera changes?

  • Dave

I reckon min specs are what are required to run the game at console settings.
1280 x 720 max ,30fps most settings at low to medium with some turned off if its possible.

  • Dave

FBB on dirt 2 with a g27 is the worst ive encountered,it is exactly like what is shown on the inside sim review with it rattling all over the place. The wheel doesn’t act this way in any other game ,etc race series,gtr2,gtr,gt legends, rfactor or any of the mods that are for those games,What it mostly felt to me was like the rumble and vibration effects of the xbox controller was directly ported to the wheel.
