F1 2010 – Out Now!

The long months of waiting, discussing and endless preview videos are coming to an end as Codemasters’ F1 2010 title has become available during the past hours in some parts of the world.

While US gamers buying on Steam are the first ones to get their hands on the new title, European gamers have to wait another two days with UK F1 fans having to wait until Friday to start racing

Since there won’t be a demo of the title available, feel free to share your opinion for other readers in the comments below if you´re among the lucky ones already owning F1 2010.

The VirtualR review of F1 2010 won’t be available for another few days unfortunately due to a hickup with the shipment of my copies, please excuse the delay!

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

Please keep talk about torrents and other illegal stuff out of here – Thanks!

  • Belzebutt

Ok so is there a 30 fps lock on the PC version? I get 60 fps in the Dirt 2 demo on highest. I get about a constant 30 fps in F1 on lowest. Q6600, GTX 460. Doesn’t matter if Vsync is on or off.

  • Mike Oppenheimer

Been playng it all afternoon and really like it. Only real complaint i have is the damage, i can spin and back into a wall at a fairly good pace and the rear is 100% fine….so far all ive seen get damaged are the wings and front wheels (which are not easy to break)

Also as said below, graphics settings dont affect fps at all, the gap between Full settings and low settings is about 5 FPS 30ish on low and 25 on high

  • Samuel

I have found that if you turn off the Sound software that comes with F12010 and use whatever your native software is (Realtek for me)  It saves some processor usage for the game itself and the sounds are exactly the same as far as I can tell….  I have also found that running the shadows at max actually ads FPS on my computer (same thing with other games for me).

Overall I love the game.  I love the options.  Its all about F1 with this game and it shows.  The tracks are really nice and the rain effects are the best I have ever seen.  Money well spent.  Even did some online races and that was fun too.  The netcode is well done and cars were not warping all over or clipping at all.

  • NitroStar

I raced a couple short Grand Prix races this afternoon. Will play lots tomorrow. I am liking it a lot. Cars are super fast so I am not real good. I have always liked slower cars to race with. I am getting around 40 to 50 fps on my pc too. With v-sync on or off, and detail set to medium or high. Strange. I can’t compare many F1 mods to this one because like I said, I have never driven many for any length of time. I’ve been running trucks and Nationwide in iRacing for a while now. VERY different lol.
What I do like: Steering seems pretty good. Immersion factor is WAY high. I feel like I am actually in a F1 car. AI race very hard. They twitch around some, but when going through turns, they seem to hold their line. Cockpit cam looks amazing. Have to learn the track VERY good (did I mention the cars were fast). The turns come at ya in a hurry :-D .
@ Samuel, I’ll try the MAX shadows tomorrow and give my results.
I can hardly wait to do at least a 20% race (it says this will include a pit stop) and see how it goes.
    PC specs:
AMD 265 Black running at 3.8
    GTX260 w/216
    42″ HDTV
Logitech G27 at 325* (will probably turn down to 270* tomorrow.

  • Leemstradamus

I am running it on my q9650 (stock today) and gtx 470 rig and I don’t get the 30fps lock.

  • traind

I have been playing it too and also like it. It is easily worth the purchase, in my opinion, unless you only like to drive full on simulations.  This is not a full on sim such as iRacing–which should really be no surprise to anyone who reads this site. F1 2010 really is Dirt 2 with Formula 1 cars in many ways. Fun, good handling, good AI, great graphics etc. The handling is fun and it is based on the real thing– but there is not too much low speed power on oversteer/traction issues,  even with traction control fully off.  Brakes don’t lock up to any great extent, even with ABS off.  So with no driver aids it is still easy to handle if you regularly drive the hardcore simulations (even if you aren’t that great at them).

My first race I had all driver aids off except for the racing line and I had set the AI on legendary (the highest difficulty).  I was in the Torro Rosso and placed 3rd in a ten lap race.  I did spin out after hitting a low speed curb while on the power too much. Admittedly, the racing line is a driver aid that hepled a lot but with all other aids off it wasn’t too hard to do well.

That leads me to the conclusion that the single player game is fun (the race was immersive) but the AI challenge may not be huge in career mode once you learn the tracks. Being in a slower car, I thought I was going to struggle more with the top cars. Maybe the differences in lap times between the best cars and the slower ones aren’t that great in the game?

Still, the race was fun and I had done a fair amount of practice laps and even with the racing line on I ended up some 13 seconds behind first place after spinning so I suppose their will be some challenge with the AI.  I also did some time trials. The tracks I tried looked great. Monaco was very cool–best version of it I have seen in a game. Tearing through the streets felt like watching Senna’s pole position lap video.

I guess I would say my early impressions can be summed up as– a fun, immersive title, though not a full on simulation certainly. F1 2010  feels how I think the average person would imagine an F1 car to handle–super fast, with loads of grip but still possible to overdrive it and screw up on occasion.  As a race fan, I imagine F1 cars to be much more of a handful than they are in this game. But that doesn’t make this game any less fun–at least so far!

  • Jack

would be great if i can hear some feedback regarding the PS3′s version…
i wanna know if the steering lag problem is really serious…..

when i looked at the video posted on this site, i didnt realize there is such a problem
but apparently people are complaining about this….

  • Hexcaliber

For folks not noticing a great hit in fps after changing graphics settings and with lower frame rates, your cpu is bottlenecking the graphics card, the ego engine is a little heavier on cpu’s than some folks realise. Many early reviewers also noted a real fps difference on quad compared to dual cores, unlike previous games using the Ego engine.

  • Turkey :D

I’m running it on a 2009 MacBook Pro and the game looks like it’s locked at 30 fps, no matter what resolution or visual settings. Kind of a disappointment… GRID and DIRT 2 ran much smoother with higher graphics settings.

  • Marcuz

On Steam it says that I still need to wait for the 25th for it to be released. Must be my region. Anyway…

I looked at the Steam forums and so far the issues I’ve seen are No FFB, Low FPS (can be fixed by doing software audio as far as I remember and have seen in this board), game won’t run and probably the most critical of all is that there’s a delay on throttle and brake inputs (steering is fine they said).

So, any technical reviews from any of you guys? Hardcore simmers, this is your chance to bash the physics! F1 fans, are you happy like some of the guys in this board? Wouldn’t change anything since I preloaded it already but I wouldn’t want to be in a state of utter disgust when I play it like my day 1 experience with NFS Shift with its ATI issue.

  • Marcuz

Have you tried if setting it to software audio will ease up the CPU hit? I know you weren’t asking for help but since you already have a headstart can you check that out? Please? :)

  • jonelsorel

Not the simulator it was publicized to be. Uninstalled it after 3 laps, planning to sell it. It’s a shame this is the best Codemasters can do with the F1 licence to reach both camps. 6/10

  • Marcuz

So far so good online? I wish online stays fun like your experience. The reason I hate online racing is because of the crash kids.

  • Marcuz

Confirmations? If it’s 30 fps locked does it still feel smooth like a movie? I read once that a steady 30 fps will appear a lot smoother compared to inconsistent framerates that jump from 30 to 60+.

  • Marcuz

Are you willing to tell us more on why you didn’t like it? Bad FFB? Handles like Need for Speed F1? I’m not setting my sim hopes high for this one but… does it handle like GRID with F1 cars?

  • Suarez16

    Yeah 3 laps should give a good opinion about a game… *DONT_KNOW*

  • brandon

Does anyone know, how do I save the game without internet? I cant login to windows live.

  • Marcuz

But at least we know what he is expecting. If he’s expecting iRacing and I am not then at least I’d still be happy with his opinion. But what if he’s just expecting something like, uhm, GTR 2 but he wasn’t happy, then I’ll set my bar lower. Really, I don’t want my preloaded game to come out as a time bomb.

  • JACKASSHOLE

    how did you post this?.

  • Hexcaliber

Who publicised it as a simulator? Codemasters certainly did not; it was always made very clear what type of game it would be. If you expected something different, that is your own fault for not paying attention; god knows there have been enough interviews, previews, and reviews published covering exactly what people should expect. It uses an updated version of the Ego engine, the same game engine behind, dirt 1, 2, grid and operation flashpoint.

  • Taylor Ling

I supposed @T4RG4 and the team has said that the game will be locked at 30fps and they say it’s smooth enough for a racing game. Although our eyes still actually able to differentiate between 60fps and 30fps.

  • Dillyracer

Only consoles are locked at 30 FPS

  • Wolfie

Well I have to say they got they took the realistic approach, first lap of the race and Vettel crashed me of the track :-D

  • Diromo

What is “audio software” which can easy CPU hit? 1st time I heard that. It’s related with video card drivers?

  • Diromo

Same here. Maybe this game will be reason to get outside from my offline cave :)

  • Diromo

Edit: I found out – it’s audio software, which come with game.

P.s. nice to see many pleased players here :)

  • Simosimosimo

xaxaxaa well said xaxaxa made my morning! :D:D

  • Jux

Is Codemasters thinking of releasing PC demo?

  • codename6

Oh my..did you really expect this to be a simulator?

  • Sensekhmet

Uninstall after 3 laps… good luck in life, buddy.

  • zudthespud

    there will be no demo.

  • Simosimosimo

I tried the game also!! As a hard-core simmer i Will probably be a lil bit more over agressive bout the game but here’s what i think of it anyway:

-First the graphics and the models of the cars are not so good! In my opinion LMT 2010 for rfactor beats it in car modeling! The effects however are stunning! The rain pouring down, the puddles of water on the track are impressive! The pit crews are made quite well although they could be improved in the future!

-How easy it is: even with every aids turned off the game is  easier than for example fsone 2008 with all aids turned on!The game offers me not real immersion of me being in a real f1 car as Codies sweared. Also the game is far from my expectation of how an f1 car should behave! I’m overreving the engine to see if ill lose traction but nothing happens, just this awkward not realistic f1 sound of a reved engine. The physics are messed up badly, I mean Dirt 2 and Grid are like rfactor compared to this title. Maybe the EGO engine is just not suitable for f1. Also you can brake a 50m before the 1st corner in Monza when you are doing like 330kph and still you can manage to enter it as long as you shift down fast and hammer the brake.
Upshift is kinda awkward also cause the engine hits the limitter quite faster than you can expect but you can use to it anyways! At all the game didn’t gave me the emotion i was hoping for.
My opinion- if you play rfactor and iracing – this game will seem like a joke to you! A bad one!

FFb-Good, but not as good as iracing and rfactor’s!

AI- The best and the smartest AI i’ve seen on a game. They attack you, outbrake you sometime, if you wanna overtake them they fight for their possition. AI are a deffinate +.

Conclusion – Imagine dirt2 on a track but with worse physics, better effects and crappy handling! For me this game is a fail althogh it has some quite nice features, It just seemes unfinished or I had very high hopes for it!

  • Sensekhmet

Delayed up till 28th in Poland… I am afraid they do this to release the Polish language version. This can turn ugly, because so far all racing games (save for GTR2 which was translated by a Polish sim racing league forum members working with the publisher) had translations that made your eyes water, nose bleed and baby Jesus cry.
Oh, and a ertain extremely annoying reporter has been confirmed to do voice acting in the game. They guy reached the hight of his career in the mid to late eighties, and since them he did absolutely nothing to justify his uber car mag honcho status. Oh, save for that little incident when his soon was blasting down a road in Warsaw in a 360 Spider, took off on a bump and split the car in two on an underpass colums, killing a fellow reporter who was riding shotgun.
Sorry for the rant, but you wouldn’t beleive how annoying this guy’s voice and overall talking is. Popmpus, grating dumbass.

  • Jonathan Stewart

lol you can’t determine anything from 3 laps, I don’t care who you are.

It’s really not that bad…. it is fun.

If you take a pretty wet track and run inters… it’s sort of like driving in the dry in rFactor, lol.

  • Empty

I dunno, I determined after 3 laps in Grid the brakes were purely optional and not intended for actual use, so I would say yes, you can determine something in 3 laps. lol

  • Marcuz

@Simosimosimo, based on what you said I ask this question: Did Anthony Davidson take it way too far? I mean I know rFactor F1 mods which are absolutely hard to due to their extreme masochistic handling. Really liked CTDP F1 ’06 (with RealFFB+Leo’s) because it seems to have moved away from that department and the cars feel like really very quick cars with boatloads of downforce. So the cars in F1 2010 drive like NFS Underground cars?

Anyway, I’ll wait. Still setting up my expectations and just think: “Anthony said the sim cars are harder to drive…”

  • Marcuz

If Lewis, his little bro and Sutil had fun with it I might as well will. Steam, please activate my game already!!! Can’t wait!!!

  • Marcuz

Anyone with similar rig as mine care to give me an estimate of the performance?

    E8400 oc’d to 3.6 GHz
    ATI 4870 HD 512MB
    4 GB RAM
    Vista x64

This waiting game is killing me! I really hope this game doesn’t turn out to be like NFS Shift on release…

  • SoloTwo

Well spent about 7 hours playing today.  First off its not the second coming of iRacing, but I wasn’t stupid enough to think it was going to be.  It’s not a sim but its not arcade the cars are easy enough to handle but I still find myself spinning on corner exits once in awhile.

So far I’ve only finished the first race weekend in Bahrain using the full weekend and full race distance using the Virgin Cosworth.  I’m running all aids off and with Legend difficulty. I’m not sure if this is a problem with just Bahrain but the AI have issues there which totally ruined the experience there.  The series of turns right at the beginning of Sector 2 is extremely bumpy which I believe is causing the AI to go EXTREEEEEEEEMLY slow in the section.  I’m able to catch up to Webber from say 5 seconds behind pass him in the section and I’m in a much slower car.  With the Virgin my laps are in the 1:59 area and the top times are in the 1:57′s, I ended being 7th fastest, in the Virgin……

Around the rest of the track everything is perfect, I’m on pace with the lower end teams but the other teams will leave me in the dust, but come to Sector 2 they just crawl through the damn section.  This is my only really huge issue with the game right now.  I’m hoping at the next track they won’t have this issue but I’m holding my breath.  I had these same issues with many other games where the AI just sucks in certain areas and just ruins the experience.

A couple other things I’ve been noticing, in the course of qualifying and the race I had probably 5 random tire punctures, this is also something I hope doesn’t continue.  I’m not sure if they have implemented any other sort of mechanical failures and I hope I’m not going to be stuck with 5 punctures every damn race.

The pitting setup is annoying as hell.  Way too automated and unrealistic, hopefully they’ll tweak it next year.  The cars turn way to abrupt into the pit stalls and I would prefer more control of the car.  Also the AI controls the car until you’re a about 500 feet out of the pits even though you control the throttle and have to turn off the pit limiter.

Besides the issue with the AI on a certain part of the track they are easily the best AI to race with that I’ve ever seen.  You actually get to race them very realistically.

Also the modeling of the added weight of fuel at the beginning of the race is just as I would assume it would be, the damn thing handles like a turd…

Overall I’m pleased, for the 34 bucks or whatever I paid for it on Steam, would I be as happy if I paid 60 bucks?  Probably not.  I’m not sure it will hold me over to GT5 like I had hoped but it gives me something else to play.

  • Marcuz

Give it a try and tell us about it! :)

  • Simosimosimo

Dude rfactor 2 will be the racing title of the year turst me!

  • Jb The Baby

Can anyone tell me want the xbox 360 version is like? I’m in the uk still got to wait till 24th! :(

  • GTEvo

    8-)

  • Simosimosimo

consoles are locked at 60FPS! you are wrong!

  • Sensekhmet

How do you exactly race in GRID without using brakes?

  • svizzy

on my office rig it runs flawless with everyting on max aa 2x at 1920×1080(at home i got a beast ofc)

    office rig:
    athlonII x2 250 @3ghz
    nvidia gt240 1gig
    2gigs ram

  • Husky42

So the game was working fine, but now I’m a little upset, I went ot launch the game and now its just launches to a screen that says F1 2010 and stops responding.

I did just reinstall Just Cause 2 but I unistalled it as well to see if that would fix issue and it did not.

  • drowsy

I’m really pleased with the game. It’s obviously not something that’ll completely pull me away from iRacing, but all the other sims that I’ve been playing purely for the AI races… Those might get thrown in the back of the closet.

For what’s always going to have to be a fairly mainstream game, the physics and handling are really good. There’s a good sense of logic and consistency to what the car does, and that’s the most important thing. Knowing how ridiculous the downforce and mechanical grip on today’s cars is, the game probably isn’t far off in terms of challenge. The cars stick to the ground, as they should. The one sim car I’d compare this game to would be the iRacing Formula Mazda, if you throw another 600 horsepower on that, it feels really similar to the F1 2010 cars. And that’s not a bad thing.

Force feedback is solid. Nothing amazing, but it certainly beats anything GP4 and rFactor have to offer (which, again, are the main two challengers in terms of AI racing with formula cars). Plus, no messing around with realfeel!

The AI… Is a mixed bag. It’s excellent, but just fails at certain tracks. It’s almost useless on Montreal, just way too slow. There’s a couple of corners on certain tracks that cause it huge trouble. However, this feels like the sort of stuff that could probably be fixed with a mod once people start putting time into that.

Speaking of modding, all the files of the PC version are right there to be modified. I’ll try and see how to get some of those more obscure files open, but there’s already a lot of .xml type stuff that can be changed with nothing more than Notepad.

Graphically, the game is really good. Same thing with sounds. I wish there were a few more audio options to change (the levels are a little all over the place at times), but overall it’s good.

Pitstops are just useless. There’s obviously the big bug with your pit crew not letting you go quickly enough, but just the whole process feels like shit, to be honest. This feels like something where they just ran out of time, I doubt the intention was to do fully automated pitstops but they just had to throw something in there as the deadline approached.

So yeah, I’m really happy with what Codemasters put together. I absolutely hated GRID, found Dirt 2 alright if a little annoying, but this game turned out really well. Hopefully they can support the game with a patch or two and fix some of the more annoying bugs.

  • Riches

    Ah.. finally it’s out…
    No more rainy previews!
No more hundreds of people taking it down before we even touched it.
    :-D :-D

  • F1Racer

“Uninstalled it after 3 laps, planning to sell it.”     ROFL.  Pure gold.

  • old_gamer

Happy that I didn’t spend any single buck on this game and I downloaded it instead..
Played a couple of races and uninstalled.

No dissapointment cos I had no exceptations.I knew that the f1 lisence had been wasted with Codemasters.
And boy..those fellas in the uk really have to learn how to make proper menus and stop using those ‘lookarounds’ in every single game (grid, dirt etc) – no fun to keep looking around to find a single option right? And those loading times….

Maxed out and the graphics are not that impressive at all apart from the rain effects and the realtime reflections. The fov is way too low, you dont get the sense of speed and the models seem a bit overscaled.
Again the bloom is overused and the prerecorded animations there just nice..to watch.
But hey I can’t blame the modellers cos they seem to be the only ones who really work in the industry nowadays. The others just work on a same multi-import package.

Saved my money for rfactor2 or other future proper games.
Thks for taking the time to read my comment.

  • F1Racer

brandon, with GFW it is possible to create an offline account.  F1-2010 should be no different.
Can’t remember the exact way to do it, but I already have both and offline and online account on mine and the offline is the defauly which F1-2010 picked up on when I installed it 20 mins ago.

About to give it a good test now (more than 3 laps) and finally form my opinion of it.

  • hendrixlebt

No problem, we also have a really annoying dumbass F1 reporter here at RTL Germany, too. Only because of him I’ve got a pay-TV account

  • Raymond

About the pitstops, Codemasters mentioned the license didn’t allow them to give the player full control during pitstop, something to do with players potentionally running over the pitcrew. A shame in my opinion, having the freedom in the pitlane was what made pitstops dynamic in F1C, rFactor and GTR Evo. I hope they fix that for F1 2011, as well as allowing for manual reconnaissance laps (going to the grid from the pits) and warmup lap.

  • KamyKaze

Just imagine you are driving a ferrari.
They seem to be indestructible. :-P

  • ZZ87

YOU are wrong,Consoles are locked at 30fps,do some research before you post

  • Jimmy

Can anyone recommend good wheel and pedal settings please. I’ve never played Dirt or Grid so im not used to the menu’s which im finding quite coma inducing scrolling through. Im  using a G25 with the Nixim brake mod. the steering is rather detatching me from the game even once you manage to look past the horribly distracting wheel animation that only turns 90. each way :(

No matter how hard I stamp on the brake and crunch down the gears (often through to neutral) I cant get it to slow down inside 100m and locking the wheel is impossible? In the garage I set the brake to 58% front with high pressure and small disks with no change. All aids are off of course.

Until I get the controls to work satisfactoraly I cant even begin to form any opinion on the handling and gameplay.

  • Damien

    What year though?

  • AeroMechanical

I imagine you’ve probably tried this, but I had a similar (though not quite the same) problem.  At random, without having changed anything, all of a sudden it wouldn’t start  (nothing would happen).  This has happend twice and rebooting sorted it.

You might try starting in safe-mode and re-doing your game settings.  (You can also go back to default settings by deleting the hardware_config.xml file under …documentsMy GamesformulaOneHardwareSettings ).  Look in the readme file, which is under SteamSteamAppsCommonF1 2010Readme or something like that.

  • AeroMechanical

To verify, the games safe mode, not Windows safe mode.

  • TheSTIG

Well it is exactly what I expected – great fun, kinda like DIRT2 with F1 cars. What I didn’t expected was a CRAPPY CONSOLE PORT WITH 30FPS LIMIT! Come on Codies fix this bullshit you console whores!

  • Marcuz

I thought it was 60? How come I see posts here claiming they get more than 30?

  • F1Man

Haha, that’s Kai Ebel isn’t it? With his colourful shirts.

  • svizzy

60fps is the minimum i can choose in the menu i doesn’t

  • Marcuz

@svizzy, are you talking about the refresh rate?

  • TheSTIG

Talking FPS here, not refresh rate Hz ..

  • Jonathan Stewart

I was running 1:58s in the HRT and I agree with everything you say.

Lol at a HRT in Q3.

  • Creatorex

    Hi,

Yes FPS is a little bit issue and I have a gtx470 and I had to play with setting to get 40fps. But graphics are good for me. Regarding physics I do not think are crappy. You have to adjust car, for example brakes to be hard to block. I got to block only one wheel. I think the issue is in the feeling of the car and the device to game relation. But physics could be improved a little bit but I insist that the problem is more the feeling than the physics. I had to create a profile in my logitech g25 SW for this game and I got acceptable feeling but not have for example with car mass displacement or when lossing grip I think are very weak feeling. At the begining I felt some dekay between actions in wheel and ingame reactions but now is ok.

SO I hope COD please improve FFB PLEASSEEEE!!!!! Good game for me and waiting for a little improvements.

  • Marcuz

Have you tried the Software Audio thing instead of using Rapture? I read the difference is like night and day…

  • svizzy

somehow i stopped writing after doesn’t. now i forgot what it was about

  • AeroMechanical

For the wheel settings I use:

    (In game)

    For the wheel:

Linarity: 50% (this is fully linear)
    Saturation: 100%
    Deadzone: 0%

    Pedals:
    Deadzone: 0%
    Saturation: 100%

However, you might try a lower saturation level if you’re having trouble with the brakes.  That said, it seems like it might just be hard to lock the brakes because of the way the physics are done.  It does, however, strike me that I ought to be able to stop the car faster too.  There’s just something a little weird about it.  My guess would be that this is just one of the areas where the physics aren’t up to snuff.

In the control panel, I use the usual sim settings but reduce the steering lock to 300 degrees.

  • svizzy

    yeah thats it

  • Balazsryche

I use the software setting, because others are inactive, I can’t change from software at all… FPS is still limited to 30, very annoying :S

  • TheSTIG

Software or Rapture, Hight or Low settings – doesn’t change anyting – ~30Fps :-/

  • Marcuz

Hmmm, @Creatorex says he gets 40 with a GTX 470. Does the game decide if it’s going to plug the FPS cap depending on the hardware available?

  • Y E S

How can you see the FPS, please?

  • jonelsorel

Tried the top simulation settings, no aids, default setup, cold tyres, and the car just sticks to the ground like a slot car. It doesn’t want to lock the inside wheel while braking on cold tyres. However if you do by some miracle manage to spin (i did by flooring the gas in first gear coming out of a corner at Bahrain), there’s no way you can’t notice the exaggeratedly high amounts of grip available of these 800+ hp 600 kg cars, in Codemasters’ interpretation.

It would’ve been fair for both camps, and even suitable marketing wise to have a truly realistic and a simplified set of physics for something as big as an F1 licence. I’m sorry to say but this time around the F1 licence has been used to create a dumbed down game for the masses, when it could’ve been much more. ISI showed it is possible. And that was 7 yeasr ago!

PS: do try the new Ferrari Academy to have a proper comparison.

  • ZombieJim

    An interestingly helpful review. Thanks.

  • jonneymendoza

Hi, how do y u change graphics settings in the game?

  • Jimmy

My FPS is limited to 30 on max settings or lower. Using i7 920, 6gb, ATI 4870 x2.

New ATI drivers are out with a F1 2010 profile so I will see if there is any improvement.

  • Jimmy

@ Y E S You can download a free program called FRAPS that displays the FPS

  • jonelsorel

The cars just have too much grip, they spin way too hard even at low speeds with full throttle.
Yes, it’s Dirt but with Formula 1, like some here said. And that is a big shame!

Something as big as a F1 licence i think deserved being catered to both camps – ie having a truly realistic set of physics and a simplified one. And it would’ve marketing sense as well. ISI proved
it can be done, and that was 7 years ago. In a way I think the F1 licence has been put to waste.

    Last Codies game for me.

  • kkacper

I played a little of this at my friend’s and oh my it’s what I was expecting. I love it can’t wait till my one arrives and I have no idea how he got it in europe already….

  • Jimmy

Cheers bud, these settings have made the game far more playable.

I reduced the environmental? FFB to 20% because the curbs are gonna kill my wheel (or my family will kill me because of the noise!) But there is so little FFB thats not canned which is a shame.

Random punctures 3 times in a 5 lap race TWICE is rather annoying!
AI is quite fun to play with though. They fight for positions and I have to defend well.

  • kkacper

if you mean germany I have no idea but poland no….. We have like this fella who bearly knows anything about F1 and still is like main studio guy. Fortunatelly he’s not commenting when race is going on but there are 2 other people. 1 of them is a racing driver who and other one is commenting f1 for quiet a bit now though they sometimes make such stupid mistakes :/

  • Der_KHAN

[the FFB ... certainly beats anything GP4 and rFactor have to offer.]

most certainly not! this is nowhere near a proper realfeel+leo setup.

  • NitroStar

I’ve been reading a few of these mini reviews and I’m wondering why a lot of people’s brake’s wont lock up and they can’t spin out? My brakes will lock up BAD. You have to adjust your controller’s brake sensitivity. Default is set up for a hand controller I guess. Even when I selected the G27 profile. I’m scared right now to adjust my throttle because I don’t like spinning out that much until I learn the tracks real well.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Codemasters never billed this as a simulator. After all, why would they? The masses don’t want iRacing. They want a game that makes them feel like a race car driver.  So, Codemasters builds games like F1 2010 and Dirt2 that give you that feeling without being overly punishing like a true simulation is.

I remember listening to the f1 test driver they used during development speak about this multiple times. He basically said they were trying to make this realistic but not frustrating.  Frustrating for their target market means exactly the qualities the sim driver wants to see!  Things like locking up the brakes, low speed instability, feathering the throttle out of low speed turns where little downforce is in play. All these things turn the casual racer off, so Codemasters has little incentive to focus on them.

Perhaps in future years the game will get more challenging when all aids are turned off. The first year of development, to get the game out the door, requires companies to focus on their target market…which, in this case, is not the sim drivers. Not when you have to have the volume of sales needed to pay off the F1 license :-D .  Now that they have the core game in place, maybe they will cater more to those of us that want more realism. I am still enjoying the game as it is–my early review is posted below.

In the end, any sim driver looking at manistream titles has to assume that their ‘realism/difficulty’ need is not going to be met by titles like this. The great thing is you still have great options like iRacing and soon, RFactor 2.  But, even if you love iRacing, you still might have fun as I have with F1 2010 and with Dirt 2 before it.

  • Marcuz

@Jimmy, dangit, does it mean my E8400@3.6GHz and x1 ATI 4870 is hopeless? :(

  • JaguarGod

    Specs:
    Core i7 930
    12 GB RAM
    GTX 285 (I know I should upgrade, but it’s a Hackintosh Too   ;) )
    OCZ Vertex SSD

All options on high as possible with v-sync on!
    DVI @ 1920 X 1200

Game runs as smooth as can be. Very impressive graphically with the effects. The AI driver “swerve” is a bit strange to watch though when racing.

OK, so I have only run a few races and I am very happy with the game and feel it is worth the purchase price for sure especially if you are an F1 fan. The graphics are gorgeous on the PC version when you can turn the settings way up. The attention to detail is staggering on some of the tracks and the rain effects and water on the track is very nicely done. The cars are modeled in fine detail (not as fine as the F10 in Ferrari Virtual Academy though imo) and are a sight to behold for a racing fan.

Again, the game is not a sim and is geared more toward the average to moderate racer in my opinion. Being a sim racer, I immediately turned off all assists and started the game on the expert AI level. I have already won my first race which seems a little quick to be honest. But running races in the rain is where the real challenge is at for me.

But again, I did not expect this game to be a true sim. So I am perfectly happy with this game and I am impressed with the amount of polish it does have. It is a lot of fun to race, though the AI could be a little harder in my opinion. The car control is a nice diversion from the sims I normally play and was very easy to learn right from the get-go which should really get casual racers to give it a try.

My Bottom Line: I think Codemasters did a nice job for their first time out and I look forward to the next iteration of the game in 2011. Thank You Codemasters.

  • Samuel

The offline is mixed bag,  its max 12 cars but the races are still fun.  At any given time about 3 or 4 rooms will be open and i’m sure this number will go up as the game comes available to more people.  In all the races I have done online no one has tried to crash me out so far…  Not to say it wont happen.   Online the game uses the same penalty system as the offline modes so it will penalize you for avoidable contact and even DQ you if it happens more then 2 or 3 times or if the first time was a really obvious wrecker.

  • Matthew

Sorry but on offical site of F1 2010 game, there is write that the offical release for Europe Staes is 23 September…

  • traind

what adjustments did you make to your wheel and pedals?

  • deej

That’s normal, Ferrari have experience in building strong cars because Schumi used to run into everybody.

  • Jonathan Stewart

Brakes will not lock up from gear 7 to gear 2 on a level surface, driving straight, with a proper setup including maximum rear brake bias. Flat out brake pedal no worries.

  • Jimmy

Id of thought those specs would be just fine Marcuz. The E8400 is still a good duel core chip and TBH my quad core & 4700 x2 is not being taxed by this game, the temps are low enough for the fans to be hardly going over idle! I dont think the game is actually using the second GPU core :(

Im guessing this 30FPS limit is some sort of bug that some of us are getting because im sure my spec would only just break a sweat if I had 60FPS

  • Jimmy

    4700 x2 LOL i mean 4870 x2 :-[

  • Belzebutt

So you have a Core i7 and you STILL only get 30 fps? There has to be something wrong with the game.

  • F1Racer

    by reading your manual.

  • F1Racer

Dont forget in the car setup menu you can change the brake pressure to something higher than medium.

  • Timothy Wheatley

I think it’s OK. Very immersive and reminds me of the F1GP series for that. The UI and radio comms, the interviews etc all help to give you that feeling. Graphics are good.

The most important question I think I could ask is: Did they waste the F1 license? My answer is NO. I’m glad that Sony aren’t sat on it anymore. :)

  • Carbonfibre

    @Sensekhmet

It’s actually true. I don’t know how many laps it took me to figure it out but I knew pretty quickly, against AI, if you brake, you lose. Just lift the throttle for a moment on tight corners and use handbrake+throttle for hairpins.

I found GRID more acceptable than DiRT2 because of that; in a sense I preferred eating breadcrumbs than nothing at all. At least it was good for challenging your reaction times than driving skill. DiRT2 bored me stiff with endless repetitive career.

  • mariojsilva46

united state in what they want to know more and formula1!!!you codemasters as Europeans should think first in our market, and that more output has to buy for us!!!not understand why first in the United States so that they see in nascar!!!sorry my ingles….

see it not have anything against the United States,so I guess wrong and not think first in Europe..

  • Markuz

Now a video of a careless stomp on the dry please. :)

  • F1Racer

My fps is in the mid 70′s during a race.  In the pit its around 140.   They must be capping it because I can fraps capture at 60fps too so there’s plenty left in the tank.

  • Hobbs77

Sorry, not sure why it posted 3 times, only pushed the post box once. :)

  • Pudu

It may let one Live The Life, but I wish it would let me Drive The Car.

The force feedback is very mediocre, the audio feedback is horrid. And the game never wants to give me complete control of the car. Even with all assists off I never really know when I’m the one steering the car or not. The pit lane/pit limiter control is mystifying. Often if I run wide on track there is some kind on invisible hand of god that turns my wheel for me and pushes the nose of the car back towards the track. The steering response seems to swing randomly between not bad and soggy marshmallow.

The penalty system is like Sister Mary Stigmata following me around the track with her yard stick: run wide to avoid hitting a spun car -smack! close the door on someone trying to force their way around the outside of the corner – smack! Try to rejoin the track after a spin which is almost impossible with no clutch – smack smack smack!

Yes it is glitzy, yes the tracks look great. Yes the AI is not half bad. However the main point of racing game should be the actual driving of the car. And here it feels like it’s all smoke and mirrors. It gives me the impression that the developers said to themselves “that’ll be good enough for most console players using game pads” and just left it at that.

It’s a shame because I really wanted to like this game. However, even for a non-hardcore sim lite, the car control feels too contrived / bewildering to enjoy. Maybe it’ll grow on me.

  • Creatorex

Just for surfers… PC version enabling dx11 improves frame rate in my case that I have a gtx470. I like game but I hope that issues will be addressed correctly very soon. Not easy game, fun and etc… And weekends are very good :)

  • Dafizzner

HELP! I downloaded it yesterday. When i try to play it the game moves in slow motion. It literally takes 20 minutes to even get to the track. I downloaded it through steam. I run vista through bootcamp on my iMac. It runs rfactor just fine. Does anyone know a solution for this?!!! I hope so as I really want to play this game in its full glory! heeeeeeeeeeeelp!

  • Mike Oppenheimer

It isnt an issue about which country codmasters wants more. In the US all games are released on Tuesday, where in Europe games are released on Thursday. It is so stores have a uniform date for launches.

  • Jayblue

Over on the CM forum i have read a lot of people saying the AI is far to easy on the hardest level, stories of HRT’s and Virgins in Q3 and top ten finishes. Can anyone confirm this? And if it is the case for those who have the game on PC how is the file structure looking regarding modding, particularly the AI talent?

  • Firestarter

HRT and Virgin in Q3 is to satisfy the Spanish and British customers which is amongst the biggest userbase for this game.

  • FooAtari

Not sure about the Spanish market, but why would having Virgins in Q3 satisfy the british market.  McLaren and Williams are both british teams that perform a hell of a lot better.  I would hazard a guess that currently Virgin doesnt have too many fans.

And I want to see realisitc grids and speeds as I think most player would want.

  • jonneymendoza

my game diddnt come in a manual. got the digital version

  • Samuel

    how do you do that?

  • karat

Choose Software Audio, not the Rapture suck

  • Creatorex

Do not agree. IA is hard to beat.

  • F1Racer

I run the AI at the level 1 down from the Legend level (whatever that is) and I’m pretty much on their level but it is challening especially in the wet when you try to boot it out of a corner and they are all over you.

But I did have a 10 lap race in Bahrain where the Lotus of Kovy was 3rd.   I would have won the race in a Toro Rosso had I not had a half-spin on the lap after I changed tyres in the manadatory pit stop.  So Hamilton won by about 5s.

The spins are such that if you spin badly it won’t point you back the right way but if you catch it quick enough it will and was I glad of that on the last but one lap of the race when I nearly lost it.

  • _Sy
  • _Sy

Switching the “directx forcedx9″ setting to “false” in the hardware config.xml file forces the title to use the unofficial DirectX 11 mode. There’s a good reason that Codemasters has not enabled this by default as some graphic bugs seem to be appearing such as in-game monitor screens that are not working. The config file allows to tweak other settings as well such as bigger shadow- and cubemaps, improving the already impressive visuals even further.

  • F1Racer

Christ, when you multiple post (maybe by not waiting long enough or double-clicking – whatever it is),  can you not at least delete the 2 we don’t need instead of leaving all 3 msgs all the time ?

  • F1Racer

yeah the manual was release right here on VirtualR over a week ago.

  • Turkey :D

My poor MacBook Pro… It feels like the highest fps i can get is 30. :(
I am just a small amount above the minimum requirements… but DIRT and GRID run and look so much better. I think some optimization should have been done.

  • mariojsilva46

  • mariojsilva46

    thank you MiKe!!!!

  • mariojsilva46

si entoces en que mas paises ha salido na europa wey….

  • Dafizzner

i agree. through my iMac the entire game runs in slow motion…bummer!

  • blazes boylan

Yes same here. With all assits off the computer is still driving the car (regulating steering input, throttle control and brak). I find it very hard to drive this way, as I never am really in control of ther car. It seems you have to hit every track event on the correct time. If you brake to late —> no chance, the game decides you cannot turn in more or slow down more.
You enter a turn too slow —> you cannot accelerate in corner as the steering stays ina certain lock.
I know this is no simulator, but I actually find it harder to drive as I’m never really in control of the car.

  • Hakkifan

The AI is way too easy! In an HRT on Legend with no aids I have had a 7th, 8th and 3rd  O_O

  • Shadeshift

What are the specs on your iMac?  Use Software Audio instead of Rapture, its offering better performance.

  • Wendy did what?

Stone the crows!  That looks like a bit of common sense there, Mr F1Racer.   Congratulations on being the first.

    :D

  • Jayblue

Aw that will just spoil the game totally. What is the point of trying to move to a better team when the best chance of a good race you have is to stay with a slower team. Move to Red Bull and sleep for every race as you thrash the AI by 2 secs a lap… Really hoping if CM don’t patch this someone in the PC community can…

  • Wendy did what?

    RTFM – haha

  • Dafizzner

the specs are: 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo – 4GB 1,066MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 256MB (shared) Nvidia GeForce 9400M…I’m not sure what “Software Audio” your referring too instead of Rapture…

  • F1Racer

So wtf?  Why didnt CM fix the bug about AI cars not giving off spray in wet race replays ?   I thought someone said that was fixed.    Or didnt they think our computers could handle all that particle chaos ?

  • F1Racer

thats the pitfalls of being a fast driver.    You just can’t cut a break with AI.

  • Renagade

I dont know if i should buy this on pc or ps3 … i dont know if my graphic card will be able to run it smouth enough i have a GeForce 8800gt … someone know

  • F1Racer

Dafizzner,  in the game, go Outside and go to the ‘My F1′ menu item.  In the Options there is an item for Audio.   Go in there and change from Rapture to Software.
Remember to re-start the game after you make the change.

It makes no difference on my system but some people are reporting benefits.

  • Dafizzner

Thanks for the info! I’ll try it out tonight once im off work…i so hope that it helps!

  • Jayblue

On the CM forum they said this was going to be fixed. Seems like 2 years wasn’t long enough in the making for this title as there are an increasing number of “bugs” or gameplay issues that shouldn’t be in a finished product.

  • 666

Cos they need to fix these two first lol

  • Jayblue

Yeah maybe. But when a car like a Lotus is 4 secs a lap slower in real life than the Red Bull you’d think on the hardest level it would be impossible, even for the best sim racers to get close to anything other than maybe the back of a Williams or a Sauber. I mean come on, 4 secs in F1 terms is light years. How can the developer miss something like this? Maybe then need to recruit some aliens to test the game too next year so there is a level for everyone. Seem like CM have some very average game testers.

  • KamyKaze

    Oh look…
    It’s a ghost’s race!! :-P

  • Dafizzner

this PC issue is a nightmare

  • Renagade

We NEED a real f1 sim on PC …. i hope someone will do this in a near future

  • Timothy Wheatley

Before Codemasters, Sony had an exclusive F1 license, which stopped any PC F1 games being made. :)

  • SoloTwo

The problem with the AI is that on certain tricky sections of certain tracks the AI slows to a crawl.  On the rest of the track the AI’s speed is perfect, if you’re in a slow team you get destroyed by the top teams but you can hang with the lower teams.  But due to these sections you’re able to lap 3 or so seconds faster then you should be.

I’ve only raced on Bahrain so far so I’m reallllllllly hoping most of the tracks don’t have this problem I’ve heard about issues in Canada and Spa though as well.  If this continues it will really sap the fun out of the game.  I’ve run into this problem on so many other games which requires me to artificially slow my speed down to reflect the real world.

I’m not sure how these issues get through to the full game, do any of the developers have the ability to play on the Legend level?  Are they just ignorant to the problems, too dumb to see it, or too lazy to fix it?  It’s always amazing how many times when playing a new video game you find such blantant problems that it just blows ones mind how it got through to the final product.

  • F1Racer

Hmmm ok so in the first vid, maybe it wasn’t an F1 weekend so no-one turned up :)

In the pits video, the first one isn’t a bug.  Its that CM decided that there would be no collisions in the pitlane so the AI cars become ghost cars.  Obviously they were hoping it wouldnt happen so much if everyone is on the same speed limit.

Not had any of those happen to me but still they are bugs that should have been shaken out in beta testing.
WE should be beta testin these games.  No bugs would ever escape this community.

  • felipe

LOL  the pitstop bug is one of the most funny things Ive ever seen in a racing game!!!  :)

  • Hobbs77

Tried to but couldn’t find a way. How do you edit after posting? :-[

  • Steve30x

FPS is no problem for me. I am getting good FPS with SLI disabled with my GTX470′s. I have all settings set to their maximum @ 1680 x 1050 (Im upgrading my monitor ASAP)

  • Steve30x

With SLI enabled for my GTX470′s I am getting 103FPS. So its not an FPS capped console port.

  • Steve30x

Im getting 103FPS with my rig.

    Intel Core i5 760 @ 3.9GHZ
    4GB DDR3 1333MHZ ram
    Asus Maximus III Gene
    2x GTX470 SLI

  • Dave

Serious fps issues with this game.
Ive a 480 thats only getting 40 to 50 fps no matter what the res is,from 800×600 to 1900×1200
My Cpu is only running at 62% at any res(Q6600 both at 2.4 and overclocked at 3.0)
and if i edit so that dx9 is no longer forced and im using dx11 my cpu usage dropps to 50% with the same fps no matter what res im using.
However forcing dx11 seems to sort the lag issue
Rapture is causing game pauses when its used ,luky when i use hardware they are gone.

This game needs another 3 – 6 month in development.  and thats not counting all the other bugs they have to fix
    Pitstop
    Rain Spray
    Ai path finding
Ai twitcheness(prob could live with that one but it ruins the atmosphere on track)
    FFB

  • Creatorex

I Agree, game is good but need some more work in. I have a 470 and enabling dx11 goes better but as you we have a top card which is not well exploited by game. Dirt2 goes great with my card. But good game I think in any case let’s see the 1st patch.

  • TheSTIG

Ok may be it is not limited to 30FPS, but still there is something wrong with tis game, cause most ppl do get about 30 and that’s it – no matter the settings :-/

  • TheSTIG

I use the same settings as AeroMechanical, and for the FFB – 10/20/30 up to down. Yes 10%EE cause the kerbs will brake my wheel or hands and for the other two you may go with +10% if you you like it stronger.

  • F1Racer

You don’t.  But there should be a delete option next to the ‘Flag – Like – ‘ part on the bottom of your post.

  • Hobbs77

I didn’t find a delete option anywhere. I did leave a message for Rob concerning this problem. Also restarted my computer to see if that will help. Again SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE!

  • F1Racer

It’s a wierd one for sure.  Are you using Firefox, Chrome or IE ?

  • Montoya

Whoops, I accdidently deleted two posts by F1Racer and Hobbs77 while deleting Hobb’s duplicates – Sorry.

Regarding the delete feature, I think that’s reserved for people who are logged in and not available for guests.

I have a 8800GTS and the game runs fine with all graphics settings maxed.

  • crampy

well one thing is for sure now: anthony davidson is full of shit/needs a flogging for his paid for praise.

cant believe how average this is.

well we’ve heard it all before. the fanbois hype it up… reality brings it crashing down… hard.

back to rFactor for me, maybe even renew my iracing subs

  • mike88

well short review of the game.

since we are at virtualr.net we all play rfactor, iracing etc…..

    the things that are good
-game atmosphere makes you feel part of game
    -the graphics are astoundaing
-the ai is good they do twitch sometimes but it is better then any current racing game
    -track modeling is very good

    the things that need improvment
-ffb just does not feel good (i expected this from before the release codemasters sucks at ffb grid, dirt etc)
-the sounds need work it feels like car is overreving 90% of the time
    -cars have too much grip
-the puncture system needs to be dialed down its way too much i picked up three punctures in one race wtf?

    bugs so far
    -pitstop
    -sometimes car become ghosts
    -ai twitching

overall the immersion and fun factor make this good game

to me this is the type of game you play with friends that don’t take sim racing seriously

  • hiomosch

just played the 1st circuit of the championship and complete it….in 1st. in a Virgin.  Everything on hard, all aids off, expert mode. Finished 30 seconds ahead of 2nd place person…..   absolute epic fail. The ONE thing they had to get right, above all else, if it was not going to be a sim, was the GAME aspect of it. I was excited at the thought of being in a slow car and working my way up the teams slowly. Instead they’ve managed to Eff up the 1 thing they had to get right.   total epic fail. The controls have been made 100% for controller, and bodged for the wheel (g25 in my case). It feels OK to drive, but FAR inferior to the driving experience on rfactor (or even F1 challenge 99-02, which is MENTAL and LOL). Why on earth would you want to play this, even for the ‘fun’ aspect, when you could have a much more authentic driving experience on rfactor?   When the AI is that bad, the game is rendered 100% useless.

The sounds are PATHETIC, SHOCKINGLY bad. Both exterior and interior sounds in the game suck. And they even bodged the transmission, they couldn’t even be bothered to change the physics engine from Dirt2, on upshifts the car actually SLOWS DOWN a few mph, and there’s an annoying gap in the sound as the car changes gear. Of course in reality the shifts are seamless.
The downshift blipping of the throttle is comical and utterly unrealistic.

You would have thought a game like this would have all the finishing touches and polish, but no! Once again, community driven mods win. i was not expecting a simracing game (and boy did they deliver), but thats fine. I was happy to settle for a fun gaming experience instead. And they’ve failed on all counts.

  • Voltron

    can you elaborate please

  • Rambozo

From a marketing standpoint ofcourse,it builds up the hype even further

but as you probably already know for “us” all these means absolutely nothing,

  • Markuz

Lewis Hamilton (hopefully the real one, our f1 overtaking god) tweeted that he played the game along with some other activities the whole day. Hopefully he doesn’t do another Monza due to the game’s apparently tank-like depiction of the F1 cars, hahaha.

But really, if that’s true doesn’t that bode well for the game? Perhaps he just wants to take a break with something on an XBox 360, or he doesn’t like it “sim”, or he finds the game good enough. Or… the game is the “real sim” (omg guys please don’t kill me).

Now dang! Why isn’t Steam activating my game yet! :)

  • Markuz

Apparently Lewis Hamilton agrees with Anthony Davidson and is having fun with the game. http://twitter.com/LewisHamiltonF1

    Seems like the legit account…

  • Markuz

Have you seen the post about the downshift sound compared to a dog’s bark? WauWauWau!!! I found that really funny. :)

  • kevmscotland

I started a season with toro rosso and likewise, blitzed the opposition.

I then changed my mind about my prospective team, and restarted with Williams.
I felt the need to bring them back to former glory.

After picking the “I want to challenge the best” interview response, and doing the first race of the season, I had a MUCH harder time of it. Only qualifying 8th and finishing 4th.

I cant help but feel the interview question sets up a difficulty, and the ‘difficulty’ selector on the race screen is actually bugged.

Be nice if someone else could test this for me also.

  • Explosive Face

    LewisHamiltonF1 is fake.

  • Markuz

Ok, who could be the real one? Perhaps he doesn’t have any.

  • Jack_NL

    from the manual

    STARTING OUT
Your Career begins with the Golden Questions, which are answered at the start of the game.
Within Golden Questions you can determine the length of your career, your diffi culty level and
starting team. The length of your career will determine which teams are available to you at the
    start of the game.

  • Jack_NL

try instead of career  a Grandprix,  I wonder if the AI is better in Grandprix mode

  • linkinstreet

Tested the game last night and did a quick review
    http://wakarimasenlol.com/2010/09/23/first-look-codemasterss-formula-1-2010/4973

Anyways, feels quite dissapointed in some sense. Sutil was being generous when he said the game was bad. It was herrendous. :(

  • mike88

just to add one more thing.

karun chanduk is a beast in this game. for the last 4 races in career mode chanduk has placed no lower then 14th place.

all on dry track and with no ai crashes he manages to be ahead of williams and sauber.

    at melbourne he finished 12th!

    wtf codemasters.

also it seems hamilton cant lose a race after 4 races he has 95 points and button 75.

  • RKip

+1 I agree with these comments and I’ve played a couple hours to date Hot Lapping and a few grand Prix Races.

    Good First Impressions!

  • Michael

“However the main point of racing game should be the actual driving of the car”

Absolutely. It’s not whether it’s hyper realistic. If a driving game feels great to drive then it’s usually great to play.

NFS Shift, for all its faults, had the tyre model and FFB that meant a lot of the cars felt good to lap. autosimsport magazine described this well in their review. Some sims fit this category too (although some don’t)

For me, if Grid had felt great to drive I’d have played that. But that was really its biggest fault, rubbish FFB.

I cancelled my pre-order for F1 2010 because there are far too many early purchasers suggesting that it doesn’t feel great to drive and no amount of other features, however good, can get around that.

I’ll keep an eye to see what they patch, but sans any demo there’s just no way to see for myself.

(I think they made a mistake not releasing on Steam on the same day TBH. It was pointless punishing people who had pre-ordered the game by making them wait longer than they needed to. Moreso if you consider that the markets they delayed are the biggest for an F1 game. They shouldn’t have risked letting all the negative comments of the, relatively, small number of US purchases put off buyers elsewhere – but I guess I’m glad they did because I’ve saved £30)

  • renagade

    thank you for answer

  • Raymond Tsui

Guys… you need to set the AI to “Legend” to be challenging. Put it on hard and you’ll qualify 1st everytime.

  • Markuz

    Corrected the link:
    http://wakarimasenlol.com/2010/09/23/first-look-codemasterss-formula-1-2010

Is there a site or a video of Sutil lambasting the game? Man, I’m getting nervous with what I bought… I saw a tweet from Anthony Davidson saying that the game “has more grip than the real ones” but has made improvements on other areas *sigh*. I guess it came out again like GRID’s R10 which has a top speed of around 425 km/h, jeez.

I’m not asking for iRacing but come on! Why exaggerate the speeds? Even Need for Speed Underground have believable top speeds for stock cars! Adding grip for a game to work well with thumb sticks and keyboards is one thing but having superfast top speeds is lazy…

    … Expectation: Need for Speed F1. I hope that expectation isn’t high…

  • Spaceman

    Hmmmm.
I set everything ingame to low details, I get 30 frames.
I set it all on Ultra with whatever the highest AA is along with AF runiing in a config and D3Doverrider running  and I still get 30 frames.
Remove the quite absurd FPS lock please COdies. This isn’t a ps3 it says pc.
Btw where is Legend difficulty mine only goes up to hard.

  • Aaron Carlisle

Ya, I’d like to know where Legend is as well because my stuff only goes up to Expert?

  • Marcuz

Perhaps we can gather information on what configurations could be having the 30 fps “cap”? Does it affect only ATI, Nvidia, AMD or Intel? Specific to memory size? Steam or disc version of the game? It’s really weird like you guys are playing different versions of the game.

  • Raymond

Just played the game last night for the first time, seems the game was already in stores on the 22th in the Netherlands. So far only did a time trial on melbourne and 2 races on Bahrain, 1 for my Career. Indeed the second sector is bugged, it’s incredibly easy to gain time there, I hope Codemasters releases a fix for that, since it’s pretty annoying, on the rest of the track the AI cars are slightly faster and I seem to do a pace that would leave me in 15th of so if not for the second sector. Apart from that the pitstops are incredibly annoying, I was stationary for 11 seconds, it seems that the game has a hard time coping if multiple cars are in the pitlane, it just about lets them all past before I can rejoin.

I hope other tracks are better in the AI department. Issues like in Bahrain take all the challenge out of driving with the lower teams. And therefore ruin the career experience.

Another downside is Codemasters just cutting corners, I mean you release a game where you can choose all kinds of nationalities, but you can’t select all helmet from those same nationalities. I mean I’m dutch, but there’s no dutch helmet in the game. Obviously not that much of a deal in the overal picture of the game, but it still shows that the attention to details is not that high.

On the plus side, the graphics are pretty good, though the game could take a look at Ferrari Virtual Academy, which are simply better, especially car and tyre reflections. But the best feature of the game is the wet weather. I only had 1 free practice in the rain, but damn, it made a huge difference in the handling. Very different racing lines become available, which is cool to see.

All in all I’m still a bit on the fence with this game, if the AI isn’t that much of a problem on other circuits as it is in Bahrain then I’ll be more positive. But let’s hope Codemaster fix those issues anyway, it would make the game, and especially the career mode a lot nicer if the AI is on par, but during the pitstops and on the sections of track where it’s very easy to gain time.

  • Raymond Tsui

Is it just me or does the FFB in the game make my G27 rattle a LOT?

  • Raymond Tsui

On the race main menu, you edit the difficulty settings. Scroll down to the 2nd last one and change it to “Legend”.

  • Hired Goon

You mean this is already cracked??

  • jack mehoff

    expert is legend…different countries

  • jack mehoff

if you hit your gears at the right time you can keep even with them…in my experience playing for the last 2 hours…took me a little bit…maybe choose manual sequential…maybe a wheel too??

  • Raymond

Yeah, I still have to use my wheel, though keyboard handling isn’t bad. I’ve been used to keyboard for a long time and never really got used to using a wheel, mainly because there’s no feel in the brakes (I’m one of those people that doesn’t really race that often anyway, as I’m usually modelling and only driving ingame to test out if the cars runs properly ingame). I bought a wheel 2 weeks ago and I’m learning to use it instead of keys. But, being anxious to try out this game I just tried the game on keys. This weekend I’ll hook it up properly with the steering wheel i got and see that I think then.

  • F1_fan_1

What? Already released in The Netherlands? I thought it was going to be released friday?

  • KamyKaze

Markuz… I don’t think the cars are to fast. My Lotus doesn’t reach the 300km/h in Bahrain.
    Maybe it’s the setup…

  • Marcuz

Thanks KamyKaze. I’m apprehensive since Steam won’t release my game until 25th. I want this game so much my PC misses me because I wouldn’t touch her unless F1 2010 is playable already. :D

  • KamyKaze

    You mean over the kerbs??
If so, i think mine to.

  • Gulyo

Of course cracked … since before yesterday ( Hungary at least ) :)

  • Gulyo

Doesn’t exist proper game … forget it !

  • Riches

If a devoloper seeks so much attention for a title and does not even dare to put out a demo, we all know the score.
It’s a mediocre racing game for kids with gamepads.
Has nothing to do with a sim.

  • KamyKaze

I’ve only got through 15 laps in time trial at Catalunya, and P1 and P2 in carrer mode at Bahrain.
I’m planning on running the race at 100%.
My best time only got me a 13th place so far. I’ve spun a lot. I even got a puncture for that. And thats a set of tires gone. :-P
Thats cool. The behaviour of the car with full gas tank is completly different, and i dont think any other game got that right until now.
The FFB is a little strange… Weak everywhere, expect when over the kerbs, when is too strong in my opinion. The AI seems to be good. Not trying to overtake you at any cost, hiting you on the rear. No. They will wait for a chance to overtake. Real nice.
The car really has a lot of grip, but i like it that way.
I can´t wait for the end of the day so i could take the flight to Bahrain again… 8-)

Oh. Did i mention the exceptional menus in the garage during the entire weekend?? Fantastic. And the pitcrew pushing your car into the garage??   Awesome

  • Michael

…and it doesn’t say a thing about changing the graphics settings…why act like cunts when faced with an honest question?

  • F1Man

I like what you are saying about the AI. In F1 2006 the AI would just hit you and make you spin.

  • Raymond

So did I, I visited the store for something else, I saw the PS3 version in the shelves. So I asked about the PC version and he got it from the back. Perhaps they released the game to soon. Oh well, their loss, my gain :-P

  • FooAtari

These types of posts are getting tiring now…

I mean, aracade or sim, they are GAMES at the end of the day and is sitting in in your fake racing chair with your plastic racing wheel playing at being race drivers any more grown up than an arcade game, or any game for that matter? Gaming is not a kids persuit anymore, hasn’t been for a long time and generally both arcade and sim racing come under the banner of gaming.

It’s all the same at the end of the day, just different games aimed at different audiences.  Personally I can enjoy both without the ignorant, self important and snobbish attitude.

  • mf

Well said. Anyone who thinks that a game played in front of a computer screen can actually simulate the experience of driving a formula 1 is delusional.

I’ve never driven a F1 and don’t think I’ll ever get to, so I don’t have a reference point to compare the game to. Neither does 100% of the posters on this blog. So when people say “it does not feel real”, I can only ask: how do you know? Ever driven a F1? Well, neither have I.

  • flowie

Handling (dry): I really tried a lot to spin the car, but on a dry track it is impossible for me. Same for locking the tires when braking. This means you can either brake with 100% brake force or accelerate with 100% throttle. It is only possible for me to spin the car when I hit a curb badly and some wheels loose contact to the road. Really annoying is that when you do so in most cases the car will be forced back into the right direction if you countersteer early enough. This seems to be some sort of stability assistant you cannot switch off (even when all driving helps are deactivated this happens).
Handling (wet): More challenging, you can spin and have to be more sensible with throttle AND brakes. The graphics are really good.
AI: Compared to other racing games the AI in general is really good. However there are two major downsides: 1. So far I only raced on 3 different tracks but on all of them there seems to be set of corners where the AI looses a lot of time while on the rest of the track their speed is ok. 2. During pit stops you sometimes have to wait 5-10 seconds to enter the pit lane again because of the lollipop-man. I’m sure crashes can be avoided this way but it doesnt make sense. First of all in real F1 you dont have the possibility to wait after a pit stop no matter who is passing right now. Secondly, in F1 2010 ghost mode is activated in pitlane so it is impossible to crash into other cars.

For a fun racer this game is really ok. The interface (paddock, pits, etc.) is really impressive and the graphics also. But when the track is dry the driving experience is not challenging at all. For occasional players who use gamepad or keyboard the difficulty might be suited, but not for simracers having some experience in rfactor, simbin-games or iracing. Keeping in mind that Anthony Davidson was significantly involved in the development of F1 2010 telling us that the handling would be the real deal I feal cheated. At the same time I remember the pre-release coverage about NfS Shift (interviews, screenshots, videos) and the final product. There are a lot of similiraties – sadly.

  • jimmy

yes it does. I reduced the environmental ffb to 20% because it felt like my wheel was gonna break!

  • Steve30x

I love the way you guys read what montoya had to say and kept this kind of talk out of the conversation *DONT_KNOW*

  • Creatorex

You’re wrong. Check if you have enabled aids. You can spin easily. If you are going high speed you wont spin of course due to aero forces. Yo can spin if you go over a kerb or after a kerp your wheel is in the air. You can block wheel braking both or in curve one depending on your driving. SO physics are not sim pure but are passable. As i told in other posts problem is not physics or other matters. Problem is FFB feeling traction, dumping, etc.

And game is amazing running with weather changes. Great game :)  I miss some more sim physics but it is hard to drive in Expert mode agaisnt Legends IA :)

  • flowie

So you think I should alter the FFB settings so that I have to struggle with the handling of the cars? I don’t need to have a better feeling for traction at all as there is too much traction most of the time. All aids are off and yes, it is way to easy. And again yes, there are circumstances where you can spin the car as already explained in my first posting (curbs etc.).

  • overclocker

is there away to follow the race if you crash out ?

  • Raymond

A question, does anyone know if it’s possible to get from Q1 to Q2 without having to return to the paddock or let the time run out? It’s annoying that I cannot skip time as well. Anyone else have that issue or did I mis an option in the menu?

  • Samuelkorthof

How long its gonna take Codemaster to respond to the big amount of complains about the PC version. There are people that have less framedropping then me with a older system. Tried al things to make it better but still got al lot of slow motion racing. CODEMASTERS FOUND A WAY TO F***K THIS LICENSE UP.

  • overclocker

Does anyone know if theres a tv cam to follow the race and watch the other cars ,if you crash out or retire  from the race ?

  • KamyKaze

Try going to the event info menu in the pits, right side of the engineer menu, and ther you can select to wich session you want to skip.
    No need to thank… ;)

  • Jayblue

Ok my game came today. I am doing career mode in the HRT on Expert settings with Legendary AI difficulty. Easily through into Q3 with a 1:58.0, only 1 sec slower than the fastest AI. In a HRT!!! Seriously this is too easy…

  • Raymond Tsui

It also happens on DiRT 2. It could be the game engine’s crappy FFB since it never happens on rFactor or GTR2.

  • Raymond Tsui

I don’t know about you guys, but my Lotus seems to be understeering like a pig and can never get close to the front runners as many of you say it does.

  • KamyKaze

Yeah. Mine it’s not that good either…
    I’m doing 2.01 laps.
We probably don’t have the same game. Or it’s me who su**s really bad.

  • alexands

I can toast off a set of tires in under 5 laps if I push it too much.  I can spin if I get on the gas to early, and if I teak the setup of the car to the lowest downforce it is like watching a dog f*ck a football.  All over the place.  I like it! I am driving the lotus with a G25.

As for not being able to lock up your brakes, I can slide through any corner I want with the front wheels locked.

Tonight I tweak the steering settings to get it closer to linear steering.  I have set it to 100% linear but I think now I need to mess with the logitec profile instead of the codemasters stuff.

Comments from anyone on how to make these changes? Or good G25 setups they have found?

My only complain is that I have seen some big wrecks that cars have driven away from.  Oh well, for $30 I hold out for better damage modeling in 2011.

  • Raymond

I tried that, but can only skip from Q1 to race, not from Q1 to Q2.

  • F1Man

You can’t retire from the race or crash out unfortunately. Unless you end your race manually of course, but then the whole race is over.

  • Flaux

Drove the ps3 version yesterday with a nimble dfgt.  :)
Some lag in all devices, but when you are used to it it drives just like every other game. The game is well done and worth the money. It’s very driveable which is something that only the best rF-mods are capable of, so I see it as a sim.

  • Dafizzner

    for real!

  • Jayblue

Finished my first race on Legend (Pc version, G25 wheel) in 6th position. could have been fifth but the “sound glitch” kept freezing my screen. Also the pitlane “bug” meant i missed the best time to change tyre trying not to get held in my pit space. I am seriously hoping the advantage i get in a Red Bull isn’t as big as i am expecting it to be…

  • KamyKaze

Then go to the live timing and press F2. It should advance the time for you. Don’t now how that works though, because all i’ve been doing so far is practice, getting as much laps as i could.

  • Belzebutt

Go to codemasters.com, support, and open a ticket using the form.

  • Belzebutt

I have a Q6600 and a GTX 460 and I’m only getting 30 fps, no matter what res. WTF is going on? I would kill for 40-50 fps, I don’t know what you’re doing, obviously it doesn’t make sense that your card would be faster at low detail.

I tried DX11, beta drivers and using hardware/software sound, no change.

  • F1_fan_1

Well that’s cool. I’m still gonna get it tomorrow though.

  • OPiun

Get out of the car and start running

    :-P

    Sorry i couldn’t resist

  • Aaron Carlisle

G27/ARC Wheel here on the PC version, and I have no lag once I got my wheel settings correct.  The only input lag I have is when you’re downshifting.  It has a small delay between when you click the paddle, and when it actually downshifts.

  • Mike Oppenheimer

Thats not true…you can crash out…..hit a wall and knock a wheel off. It shows you a replay, then gives you choices. Restart or retire

  • F1Racer

FFB on my Fanatec GT3RS is crap.  Im not feeling any bumps, kerbs, lockups or anything.

  • Firestarter

We should all be glad that we finally have an official F1 game on the PC, despite all the bugs, but this is the reality, publishers don`t care about PC anymore, it`s the consoles that generates most of the money.

  • AeroMechanical

Set your linearity to 50%, that is fully linear.  Yup, doesn’t make sense, but that’s how it is.

  • AeroMechanical

In an effort to change the FOV, I’ve found the correct files to modify, but I need a utility called binxml.exe to convert the binary XML files to ASCII and then back again.  This was originally for Grid (I’m assuming it would also work with F1, but it may not), but I cannot find any working links for it.

Anyone know where this can be found?

  • Luca

Completely agree. You dont even really need a steering wheel to drive this.

  • Gne

I have this game on PC.
This game is just a joke.
Being at 350 or 50 is THE F***ING SAME. THERE IS NO SPEED FEELING.

  • Austin White

Do you guys think the steam copy will have modding capabilities as opposed to a disc copy? steam copy has a good price right now.. I just tried a digital copy on my system just to see if it runs good and it looks good so I may purchase it.

  • overclocker

Just removed this from the pc ,and can honestly say its very dissapointing to do this. I hope in the near future they can improve this load of rubbish .oh well back to me Rfactor

  • JamoZ

As a hardcore simracer i didnt expect much of it, after reading all the negative comments about it. But i must say the first 30 minutes impressed me a lot. With my G25 over at a friends house, i decided to hook up my 360 controller on my pc, and take the cars out for some test laps. I think the game is very drivable with a controller with all aids off, sure its not that hard, but it gave me the impression that the faster you go, the harder it gets…just like i image a f1 car would handle in real life. The only real problem i`m having is are the frames. My rig is a 4870×2, i7 xeon @ 4,0 and 8Gb Ram..ans still with everything @ high instead of ultra, my frames dont exceed 50/60 ( @ 1920 x1080 ) Is this game that resource heavy? And does someone know what the Cloth setting is in the graphics menu?

So far i find the game left a good first impression, gonna have to unleash my true simracing nature on it as soon as my G25 is back in the house ;)

  • mf

Finally got it today on PS3 (G27 wheel). Overall, I like it, but it’s not perfect. The downshifting bug gets annoying after a while. The menu system is sometimes a bit confusing, once you get used to it it’s ok. I wish you could adjust the options more quickly, like you can with the controls. Graphics are great, but not stunning, I think GT5 will be much better in that department. Tracks are very well done.

However, it’s fun, not too arcade, only a bit. Ideally, Simbin would have got the license, that would have been perfect, but I don’t think that they have the money for it.

Overall, a solid 8/10. Room for improvement, obviously, but they’re starting the franchise, so you can expect some early teething problems. A patch for the downshift would be nice.

I do prefer it to rFactor because of the full 2010 rules implemented in the game.

  • F1Racer

    I literally LOL’d at the dog/football comparison :D

  • F1Racer

There’s no downshift issue on my PC version.  I hate the fact that you can downshift to Neutral though.   F1′s dont do that.  They have a Neutral button instead.

At least in rFactor you can map a key to Neutral so you can’t downshift from 1st just like in real F1.

  • Shorel

Thats cool. The behaviour of the car with full gas tank is completly different, and i dont think any other game got that right until now.

Toca Race Driver 3 cars handle very different at the start and finish of races. You can feel the difference in weight and in tire performance during all the race. That’s another Codemasters game.

Hopefully in 7 hours I can play F12010.

  • Aaron Carlisle

I have a G27/ARC Wheel, and I run the PC version as well.  I also have a downshift delay bug as well, and it can screw you sometimes.  It’s alright once you get use to it, but the fact that it’s even there is crappy.  It’s like there is a short pause between when you click the paddle, and when the game actually downshifts the car.  It’s nothing game-breaking tho because I still have a blast playing the game.

  • Hexcaliber

My pc has no slow down, so I take it they screwed up some copies and not others; or perhaps you really do not know as much about pc configuration as you like to think and the fault lies closer to home.   It has been out two days, two flipping days, name one game released on any platform that did not have bugs at launch; at least let Codies devs catch up with all the complaints and start to work on them before acting like a melodramatic 6 year old with her pants in a wad.

  • alexands

Thank you sir! I will try that tonight.

  • Rich1701

I found this in Bahrain, I know what you mean. Its the Ai car setup i think, they are very fast on the straights about 10k faster than i was with the default setup (Williams) and much slower in sector 2. Lame

  • Rich1701

The replays are awful anyway. horrible engaging camera angles designed to hide poor draw distance rendering on the car models.

  • Rich1701

    (edit) *UN-engaging*

  • Samuelkorthof

Did you read the comments on this topic and the codemasters forum? There you can read i am not the only one who is experiencing low fps. I know were i am talking about! When somebody sells you a car with a broken engine you would be a bit disapointed wouldn’t ya?

  • Rich1701

You have no real feeling with the car, you dont know where the limit is, especially with traction. With a controller at least, there is no feedback. I expected a more sophisticated vibration system for controllers with this game. But anyway, There are no circuit bumps, you get seemingly random unpredictable spin outs with no chance of recovery :( . In reality this does not happen when the tyres wear, The car slides around more, but it doesnt spit you off the track, Again a result of having not feeling in the car. It’s rewarding to slide the car around or catch it before it spins but that is exceeding difficult with this game and unsatisfying to drive as a result. Mediocre graphics (xbox), questionable Ai performances, (Lotus in the top 6??) Corner cutting rules are silly when you get punished for actually going wide and loose time, in some cases you still get a penalty :( . That is frustrating!! The car also feels basically the same in the wet too, just with less traction :( there is significant room for improvement. Some updates would be appreciated.

All of the above is why I’m writing this and not actually playing the game now.

  • KamyKaze

Can you guys change the engine maps on the fly?? Or in the setup screen?? *DONT_KNOW*

  • NitroStar

Do PC users and Xbox 360 users play each other in multiplayer? Just wondering. Lots of cars are jerking all over the place while racing.

  • pirateX

oooh !!! is that what they call  to****ts now

  • pirateX

That’s the problem, you’ve been playing rfactor for six years, that everything that comes after it doesnt compare…….what was the saying again??  hard to teach a old dog new tricks aye.

  • Creatorex

In PC no lag just the issues mentioned. Not a sim but is challenging and I have iracing, rfactor, Ferrari virtual Sim, nk pro, etc. My only complain apart of the minor issues are more device configuration, more FFB feeling. Physics are not sim but are passable. Downshifting to neutral should be corrected for example, game should be optimized and DX11 already, pitbox, and other thing that console users suffers such as lag.

  • Creatorex

Feeling is not the same that amount of traction. I think traction is ok. In any case it may could me changed in PC version. another question os handling. And handling is direct to feeling. To evaluate traction the most important thing is feeling. Cheers!

Hey guys, I just found out what the problem was with the slow AI. It seems the difficulty setting with the driver aids (legend as hardest lever) does not controll AI, just the amouth of driver aids allowed. The only way to control the difficulty level of the AI is to select a different answer in the press conference when you start a career. So you need to select the hardest level in order to get the maximum challenge.

  • mf

It seems to me like the downshifting issue is worse when I downshift from 7th gear to 2nd gear very quickly, like the last corner before the pit straight at Bahrain.

Anyway, I still like the game anyway, it’s fun and that’s what I’m looking for in a game, just like I have a lot of fun playing GTR2 on my PC or I’m hoping to have fun playing GT5 in November.

  • mike88

    on the fly.

    three options avaible

    fast
    standard
    cruise

also can change front wing +/- on the fly

  • mike88

if you pick the last answer from interview ai becomes harder.

but there is still problem with ai twitching and random slowdows at slow corners.

  • KamyKaze

I can’t use it in career with the Lotus. :’(
Is it only on race day, or you can change it during practice and qualifying??

  • AndreasT

I bought the game because a friend of mine doesn’t like sims like rF. Now to me F1 2010 seems better than I expected in the very beginning, but after the most recent info before release I’m pretty disappointed.
Imho it’s too difficult to spin the car, but some curbs help. ;)  What sucks pretty much is the fact that when downshifting quickly into slow corners the game adds an extra downshift (I have a GT3 RS v2 if that matters), e.g. on the backstraight of Bahrain I downshift from 7th to 3rd with 3 klicks only (and there are more places where this shit happens). :(
Cockpit view simply sucks, unusable imho unless you want to fall asleep. Now I have to drive in arcade mode (Tcam) to get some feeling of speed.
And amazingly speeding in the pitlane always gives a 5 grid penalty. In the beginning, I ran wide in T9 a few times and that was called track cutting everytime. And when I badly cut the track once, nothing happened.
On the upside the tracks look great (from what I have seen so far). For me this is the best part of the game, but a lot of potential has been wasted once again.

I guess some of the stuff has already been mentioned far below. Sorry guys. ;)

  • Oggy

What question is it and which answer should I pick? I’m borrowing this one from a friend and he’s almost here.

People are saying its somewhat arcadish, but FSONE mods are kinda arcadish and I still liked them.

  • Gne

it’s not between arcade and simulation like people like to say : it’s just arcade, that you need to master, like mario kart has to be mastered to make the best time attack.

    But i prefer Mario Kart… ( i’m so disapointed with F1 2010 o_o )

  • Oggy

    Gonna answer my own question.

Pick “I want to challenge the best” to make the AI not suck.

  • Gne

And not for myself : never buy a game without testing the w*rez version :)

  • Dave

Try changing sound to software or hardware as rapture is causing lag on shifting.

  • Dave

So we should be thankfull that the devs sold us a bug ridden game just because its the official one.

oh and the bugs are on each platform,so it looks like the devs just want the money and couldnt give a shit for any platform.

  • AeroMechanical

Aha, finally sorted out my cockpit woes.

    You need this file: http://www.mediafire.com/file/6maehid8wla1zx4/Binary%20xml%20converter.zip

Then, under f1 2010cars and then within each car’s directory there is a file called cameras.xml.  You need to convert that to a text file using the utility linked to above, edit the file, and then convert it back to binary.

The cockpit view is under the “head” cam section.

Interesting factoids.  The default cockpit FOV is 44(!) degrees.  This is probably why people are having problems with the sense of speed.  I changed that to 66, modified the position slightly, and also turned off the blasted head shake (change the “headBuffeting” part to false).

MUCH better.  You can also modify the position if you like.  X (is left right, leave it at zero), Y is UP/DOWN with larger numbers being higher, and Z is front back.  I’m using: x=”0.0000″ y=”0.7808″ z=”0.0910″ but this is maybe a little bit too high.

I don’t think it’s the case, but thinking of the numbers as though they were meters works out reasonably well for adjustments.

Anyways, the cockpit view is soooooooo much better now.  I suspect they used the 44 degree FOV because of the consolitis, smaller FOV’s are useful for people sitting way across the room.

    I’d take a screenshot, but I don’t know how.

  • RIP

I agree with the fact that all games these days have bugs, let’s be honest… thousands of users with 10 of thousands different setups, let be realistic!

  • RIP

    This is funny, sorry! :-P

  • AeroMechanical

Oh, and if enough people are interested, I’ll upload my modified cockpit views somewhere.  It’s not real hard to change yourself though.  The biggest problem is having to do all the converting, edit the file, load the game, go out on the track, see if it’s reasonable, and then rinse repeat until you get something like.

I think changing the FOV is DEFINITELY worth it though.  It was giving me motion sickness along with the bumping and forcing me to use the Tcam view, which is just way too damn high.

  • Frenzic

I bought this with all the hype about it in mind, online videos looked amazin and could not wait to install it, installed it, done a few laps then uninstalled it, have to say this: what a complete waste of an F1 liscense, really sad, in short, Pants material, lifeless engine sounds sound like a mini moto bike, ai i just had to giggle at, looks nice in the garage and animated team but thats it, oh well back to me rFactor, that knocks the socks off this in every way possible, it just makes me laugh that they released this CRAP!!! sorry, my honest opinion…Frenzic..

  • mike88

    post it at nogrip.com plz

and if you can post screenshot

    thanks

  • mike88

you have to earn it by beating a set lap time at melbourne.

i think the time is 1:40 if you beat it then you are rewarded engine maps.

in race three you get 5% more downforce

    and so on.

  • mike88

    yep that the one.

picking that answer will give you the hardest ai.

    but still its meh.

  • dinosaur

” oh well back to me rFactor ” yet another caveman crawls back into his cave, you will not be missed
“that knocks the socks off this in every way possible”  says 95% of the self titled “hardcore” bedroom simracers here.

  • Frenzic

Too right the 95% of sim racers here said that, they know the score with a good racing title, not a buggy half done game like this. so you love it then? get back onto ya console.

  • dinosaur

of course they know best, considering codemaster wasnt promoting the “game” keyword mister caveman, as a sim, yet 95% of the post here moan like little babys claiming….oooooh not sim enough, get a life, its a bloody computer/console game, just like rfactor, as someone posted here said, 100% of the readers here have never driven a F1 car, and will never drive one, so what makes them think they know it all….blinkered you are and btw ive got a console and a pc,  now go club that wench.

  • F1Racer

As many have done (Frenzic for example), when you are disappointed, you go on to exaggerate the criticism to a nonsense unreal level that discredits the value of your opinion.

  • F1Racer

A digital copy :)     I like it haha.

Can you get an analogue copy anywhere ?

  • F1Racer

Frenzic,  I’m with you on some of your criticisms, but then at the end there you went and spoiled it all by spouting complete rubbish.  Shame that.  You almost had a half coherant and decent post going there.

  • Danny Roberts

I hate to say it but I can’t resist.
If Anthony Davidson thinks this ‘game’ is close to how real F1 cars feel then I’d say.
a.) F1 drivers are so overpaid it’s staggering.
b.) I know 3 or 4 hundered sim racers that could win any GP at will.

Please Codemasters….prepare a patch for the graphics, sound and controller lag.
Or…offer a full refund to those of us who feel totally disillusioned.

  • Danny Roberts

    c. I know why Ant is not driving F1 these days.

  • MiKeAhOwSkI

This is why I come to virtualr! Thanks for posting that file, now I can actually use and enjoy cockpit view.

  • jpmjpm

    Agree. Piece of cake.

This game is annoying. In terms of phisycs it”s worse than the worst rFactor mod (there are a lot of very bad mod there, but also a few fantastic masterpiece).

But I have to say, the graphics and wet weather simulation are great. Tracks are beautiful. But without the phisycs it worths nothing. Too bad.

To create a good simulation needs a lot of time and effort. Geoff Crammond made the GP series (4 titles) for around 8 years. The first one was far from a simulation, but it was the best racing game that time. And he developed his game throughout the years.

So CM has to improve a lot to be taken seriously by the simracers. But I have the feeling they don’t want to. They are satisfied with the fact the console gamers like this game and can controll it very good with gamepads. So it’s a success for them.

  • scca1981

I picked this up not expecting much and i’m not disapointed at all.  After a few little bugs are patched it’ll be a solid title.

Thanks for those cam files below.  I was using the Tcam because of the zero sense of speed in cockpit view.  That was one thing that was pissing me off.

  • Markuz

Game got released for me. So far, man. I don’t even know what to say. I don’t even want to judge any of its physics because of the terrible shifting lag with my G25 (I just want to enjoy it, you know?). FPS is also on the low side even on hotlaps no matter what graphic settings I use. It’s still playable, I’m just dissappointed. Will wait for a patch. This turned out to be another NFS Shift Day 1 release to me…

    E8400 oc’d 3.6GHz
    ATI HD 4870 512MB
    4GB DDR2
    G25

I guess it’s Codies tech support for me then… just so they know of the issues…

  • opticalust
  • Markuz

I checked out my actual frame rates. It never dipped below 40s on Time Trials. Haven’t tried on races yet. My goodness, I just noticed that I can really tell if something’s less than 60fps! :)

  • opticalust

    anyone gotten a reply?

  • Raymond

well, this game was never gonna be a full on simulation, simply because that’s not Codemasters core market. True sim racers would always be disappointed in the game simply because Codey tries to make a game for all players out there. So from the odd keyboard player to the people who just want to have some fun with an F1 game. It could have been better I agree, but considdering it’s their first attempt with only 2 years of development time, it’s not bad, I’d even go as far as saying it’s quite a good game (once the fixes are made).

I hope for F1 2011 they will look closely to Ferrari Virtual Academy, the difficulty is there, the sense of speed is there, the graphics are there and more importantly for a game like F1 2011, the driver aids are also their, I mean even with keys FVA is good to drive, I can even do a 58.2 with it on Fiorano. So that way Codey can still cater to their full market, but be a lot more pleasing to the people who expect a more sim experience.

By the way, does anyone else have problems with the pitstops, and the length it takes before you get sent out again? Yesterday a pitstops at Melbourne took me 13 seconds, with is 8 seconds more then it takes to change the tyres. I mean they can make the cars transparent in the pit to avoid hitting them, why not use that same system to allow people to get back out without loosing a massive amounth of time. Anyone figured a way around that? Hopefully one of the config (xml) files can help with this. This is the only thing that keeps bugging me.

  • Marcuz

I can’t even judge the physics because of the annoying input lag. I press the gear shift paddle and wait for a quarter of a second before it actually shifts. Framerate doesn’t respond to config changes, I mean there isn’t much of a difference if I set it to Ultra Low or Ultra High. It’s always about 40-48 fps on my system. Crysis performs better than this game on my machine at the moment.

I remember Anthony saying you can really get the rhythm of the tracks with this game, do consistent laps by feel. Omg, it’s either Codemasters didn’t listen to him, something has changed between when he said that and when I got this game, this is a bug or he lied. This is even harder to drive than any of the sims or other racing games I’ve driven because of the input lag.

Me: (pressed the button) ‘Downshift one gear please…’
Game: ‘Ok, got that. Shifting… WAU!’
Me: (pressed the button again) ‘Ok, another one please?’
Game: ‘Again? Ok. Got that. Shifting… WAU!’
My Wife while putting on her make up: ‘What was that, was that a DOG?’ :D

  • Marcuz

I’m not fully bashing it. I think it badly needs a patch!

  • yokelhama

Exactly how I feel, I’ve learnt not to get all hyped up over games/movies etc as you’re more than likely going to be disappointed. I was always expecting it to be more of a NFS Shift style/feel of game and after a year of modding that is now good solid fun to drive. As I’m sure this will be too.

  • Marcuz

Hi, this but or ‘feature’ is also very annoying. It makes the game so much harder to drive. I already did the Rapture –> Software thing, even uninstalled the thing to be sure, but the downshift bug is still there. I noticed that it happens with my G25 but not with my XBox 360 controller.

  • Marcuz

Happens to me too (G25). Small delay but lightyears in F1 terms. Forces me to brake earlier on turns. I don’t even rely on engine braking on *any* racing game but the downshift lag really destroys my rhythm.

Sent a support e-mail to Codemasters already thru their site. Hopefully they patch the game soon. This is like NFS Shift all over again: performance issues with some bugs I really can’t get over on release day.

  • Marcuz

The problem with Shift is you had to wait for modders to make it “fun” to drive. The game’s collision stutter bug and brake balance were never fixed by the SMS/EA. It was fixed by the community. That gives you a different version of the game.

I would like this game to be fixed not by the community but by Codemasters first. Let them fix the input issues and graphic performance issues. I’m not expecting them to cater the physics to simmers but that’s where the modders come in.

Except for the annoying downshift lag, currently unoptimized graphic performance and the tunnel vision cockpit view I think I like the game. The cars make you feel like you are driving a very high tech car with very grippy slicks… until you brake and downshift for the corner, hahaha.

  • krazee

hi there … why can’t I adjust the steering lock for this game … I have a G25.  How are others going?  I think I have everything else setup right and once this is sorted then the game should be almost the best ever!!!

  • Marcuz

Have you sent something to Codemasters? It’ll be good if they hear of what needs to be addressed. They might not fix the cockpit view to standardize it with the consoles but bad pitstops and delayed transmission inputs is bad, very bad F1, arcade or sim or whatnot.

  • Raymond

I did send an email towards Codemasters, but that’s just the general email address, I don’t know anyone directly at Codemasters unfortunately… So no idea if that email actually reaches the right person.

  • Marcuz

Hmmm… Try the Support link on their site. That’s what I did. Perhaps we can also post on their boards. I’ll do that later. They might not take the issues in this site seriously so we need to let them know on theirs.

  • mark marklar

Im on the Steam version, on an 3ghz E8400 (stock)/4gb ram/8800GT 512mb under Windows 7. The game runs good on max options at 1680×1050@2xAA.  No hitching or slowness. If Dirt2 ran good for you so will F1 2010.

Graphically its a mixed bag in some areas. Unlike every other Codemasters game where everything has that smudgy/blurry look (Grid for example), F1 2010 is quite sharp and clear. The cars look pretty nice, although some colors like the Renault and McLaren seem muted maybe. The reflections on the McLaren could be better.

All of the tracks I’ve raced thus far (up to Canada now) look and feel great. Its nice being able to race on updated tracks. Man oh man I do HATE Bahrain so much. Its as boring to race on as it is to watch on TV. I thought I would hate Sepang, never had any luck on that track in any other sim, but it was fantastic to race on. Got pole position during a very wet Q3. Melbourne too was great fun.

Sounds are good too I think. Shifting from gear to gear sounds great. Over rev and you get this terrible scraping sound. I was a bit worried about the sound, but it all sounds nice. Could be a bit beefier but its cool.

Oh and the menu system is MUCH better than the STUPID ASS system Dirt 2 had. It loads much quicker and it doesnt have as much crap as Dirt 2 had. Nice backround music too, no more crappy emo rock. And thank god you dont have driver speech. I really didnt wanna hear Jenson Button say “Oy guvnah, your really fast out there matey!” everytime I finished a session (yes, that is how all British ppl speak, true facts!).

The thing I really dont like is the sun effect. There is no sun. Bahrain looked had a sickly cloudy look to it. It looked like anything BUT a desert. Monaco so far is the worst. Just terrible looking. Looks great if its cloudy/rainy, but when the weather report says its sunny, its like theres an overcast. Same for every other track with clear skies. Its a rather dark looking game, just no feel of color if you know what I mean. Its nice CM didnt do the usual overblown HDR/Bloom look but the look of the places feel dead. NFS Shift looks much much better in this regard. The lighting effects need to be a bit more realistic, more lively. CM just doesnt need to puke Bloom and HDR all over it though.

I’m playing on an Xbox 360 gamepad and this the first time I can enjoy racing an F1 car. Yes, I’ve played RH2005 on F1 2002 for years as well as the F1 car in rFactor, the MMG mod for Race07 and they’re too damn hard to play with a gamepad. Those who are saying this game is too easy and are using a wheel might try with the gamepad because its much more difficult I imagine. For 1, I’m doing 20% race length. Why? Because my fingers/hand hurt like hell after a race. I have to take a healthy break in between races. Add in the 10 laps or so I do of qualifying across all 3 sessions (assuming I make it past Q1) takes its toll. Theres no way I can do a full race on a gamepad. I wish you could save progress in a race like you can in GTR2 for example. I can do 10 laps here, save it, then come back later on and do another 10. But not all laps in one sitting. You CAN thankfully save after qualifying, and come back later to finish a race.

Feedback effects on the pad are excellent imo.Force  However there is no deadzone adjustment which is silly. The Xbox 360 gamepad drivers stupidly dont have deadzone adjustment. However its weird. I can drive the car rather easily just by slightly moving the stick within the deadzone. I think I like it actually, and I dont know if it was done on purpose as it makes adjusting the car slightly in the straights at high speed easy. Doesnt affect cornoring much though.

Lastly is the god awful pit system. Apparently there is a major bug where your lollipop man will hold you back until ever car has passed. The pit lane limiter sucks big time. You enter the pit automatically and the game takes over, but you can still accelerate with the limiter on. And sometimes the car will HIT a wall when it goes out, its way too fast/hard on the exit from pit box. And why are other cars GOING THRU ME as my car is going down pit lane? I lost 4 or 5 positions because the cars literally pass thru your car even though the pit lane limiter is on. Somthing seriously is broken here.

Overall Im pleased. Is it a true proper sim that everyone was hoping for? Perhaps not, but I dont think CM ever said it was. It can be a bitch sometimes, frustrating as hell with certain tracks but I like it so far.

  • Marcuz

@krazee, I adjusted mine on Control Panel –> Game Controllers. I set it to 320 degrees (I plan to set it lower like 270 later). Within the game I set steering saturation to 100%, linearity to 4 (but I plan to put it on 5 because that’s the most linear I, I read it somewhere here). Linearity set to 1 has a very sensitive center but very mushy on the sides.

As far as I know you can’t adjust the lock within game. You can try setting Saturation to something like 30% to get 270 degrees lock but I don’t think the force feedback of the game is gonna stop the wheel or put a cap on it. Try it though, I haven’t so…

  • Jack_NL

for the shifting delay  put in optopns/Audio the hardware drive to software

  • Marcuz

I like sims too but expecting Codemasters to give you one is like asking for a HRT 1-2 on Spa. Still, I wish they’d fix the bugs though. Setting my sim expectations aside this is going to be a solid title if they fix the major game-breaking bugs like input and graphic optimization issues.

I’m very happy that the cars don’t behave like GRID’s hover crafts over Spa. Now they feel like high tech cars with uber-sticky slicks with econobox Tiptronic shifters (downshift please?). :D

  • krazee

Just tried this and I can turn my G25 270 degrees but the car only turns like 200 degrees … I want the car steering to turn 270 degrees – same as my G25.  At the moment there is a disconnect between the game and my G25

  • Marcuz

Hmmm, I wonder if it’s another case of ATI vs NVidia here. On my ATI 4870 it runs 40-48 FPS @1680×1050 4xAA. I’ll try if setting AA to 0 will help. If it doesn’t help I’ll try my 8800 GT. I want to try that because with my experience with NFS Shift on release day I got smoother gameplay with my 8800 GT even if the framerate is lower compared to that of the 4870.

Can you confirm that you’re not getting the downshift lag with the XBox 360 controller? I never have it with that but with a G25 it’s terribly painful. It feels like I’m queuing commands on an MMO with a G25.

  • krazee

Yes linear is 50% which is equal to 100% but the sides are a little too mushy for my liking.

  • Marcuz

You mean the ingame graphical steering wheel? I think that’s a Codemasters’ coding or animation limitation. I think the steering wheel in game won’t turn beyond 180 degrees. Dunno if they’re planning to fix that but I read that it was worse before. On early videos I think the graphic steering wheel turns even less than what we have now.

  • Marcuz

Already did that even before turning a lap mate. I even uninstalled Rapture from my system just to make sure I’m on software mode. Now I can only set audio to Software, no other options. Analog inputs seem fine as far as I can tell but downshifting is still a pain. Perhaps upshifts also have lag but they’re not as bothersome.

  • opticalust

“If Dirt2 ran good for you so will F1 2010.  ”

    Don’t hold your breath.

  • Krazee

Makes playing Monaco really really hard!! :(

  • bram

I don’t even have my copy yet but I see the usual case scenario where some are loving it and some are not. We all knew deep down that would never be a new geoff crammond title, but at the same time I can see why sim racers are agitated by the failure to provide of a proper sim experience. I don’t know why codies don’t sub contract people like Simbim to deal with the top end simulation physics and handling, then we could have the best of both worlds.

  • Raymond

Good review, hopefully Codemasters will release a patch soon. On their forum they say the pitstop problem is being worked on. Or at least the part where you are held to long. Hopefully they’ll also work on the puncture system, it’s annoying how often a puncture occurs.

  • Marcuz

Hehehe, I guess you can ask the mechanics in game, LOL! Sorry, no more ideas. :(

  • Marcuz

Even consoles have input lag? I have the downshift lag bug. E8400@3.6GHz, ATI 4870, 4GB RAM, Vista x64, G25.

  • Marcuz

We can make the devs fix these bugs if we all go and tell them on their support sites, forums, etc. If there are big issues (honestly, I feel that there are right now) that keep appearing on their forums or somewhere on the web, it’ll spread like wildfire so they’ll be forced to fix them, else they’d feel it on their bottomline because of the bad public perception of the game.

So let’s go tell Codies our issues! Dang, I feel like we’re beta testers.

  • Marcuz

I know what you mean but sadly 100% simulation won’t sell a game. Production values, marketing, money and hype will. Look at how high the review scores of every Simbin game were yet how relatively weak sales they had.

The reality is the masses are buying a fun racing game. For simmers the fun comes from extracting that 10nth of a second on a lap or even just successfully overtaking a car real clean on a race. Simbin excels in doing games for that crowd. The problem is majority of racing-game-buying-Joes prefer other things like cinematics, grinding for car tuning, car-porn visuals, fun drifts and car destruction mayhem. And yeah, lots of them hate it when you have to brake for a corner.

I’m actually surprised F1 2010 requires concentration to nail those braking points. On their previous games you can win a race with no practice and no qualifying even if it’s your first time on the track! My problem with it are the technical issues. Here’s to hoping they get fixed really soon, like tomorrow, or later this day. :)

  • F1Racer

Marcuz,  surely the framerate issue is because CM have capped it at these levels.   Im in the 70′s for some reason with my framerates.
Its been capped to keep it smooth I reckon.

I also havent noticed a gearchange lag either.  Maybe cos I have a fast computer, I dunno.  Next time I play I will try to take more notice of it, but Im sure I would have noticed already had there been a downshift lag.
So maybe its down to computer power or syncing with framerate cycles.   who knows.
Gotta be annoying though.   You do NOT need input lag with an F1 car.

  • Marcuz

Oh yeah F1Racer, the downshift lag is really very annoying. I’ll be doing “experiments” and my system later.

  • Marcuz

    I meant *bug*, not but.

  • Marcuz

I agree that with all the PC configurations we have it’s hard for a game to be bug free but I don’t agree to us being paying beta-testers for a game we bought. Why didn’t they just ask for beta testers before release? I’m sure many would’ve signed up for that.

Well, I guess not all companies are Blizzard and releasing buggy games is the norm these days. Then again with what I’ve “beta-tested” at home, if the major bugs like the delayed pitstops, delayed inputs to some configs and overall performance optimizations ironed out, this is a solid racer.

  • Justin ForzaBarça D’Cruze

    I’m really enjoying it, mostly.

Graphics – 9/10. My only gripe is the annoying orange haze that seems to fill all of codies games. Other than that, I’m pretty sure this looks better than real life.

Sound – 6/10. Passable. Nothing special and probably could’ve been better.

AI – 9/10. Really very good overall, waaaaaaay better than rfactor or any of the simbin titles for that matter.

Physics-6/10. Not always convincing but drivable. The lack of decent FFB doesnt help here, but there does seem to be some wannabe physics engine at work hidden somewhere withing the game. The problem is that it may as well be based on the early ISI titles where random spinouts with no warning or chance of recovery was the reward for driving on the limit.
Should also mention the car does seem to change characteristics during a stint based on fuel load and tire wear, bonus points right there.

Controls and FFB – 3/10. It’s crap. Seems to be more “random vibration” as opposed to feedback. Atleast the steering and pedals seem to feel quite sim-like with a g25.

Gameplay – 9/10. As a racing game, this thing is full of win. The proper AI and damage modelling encourages you to drive properly, the tracks I’ve tried so far seem to be well done, and the superb presentation really does add to the immersion.

Having said all that, there are some niggling issues many of which people have already mentioned. But really nothing that cant be fixed with some patchwork. Overall, I’d definitely recommend it although codies are idiots for not offering a demo.

  • Spaceman

You lot need to stop spouting drivel based on a 3 lap race.
Just done a 70 lap race round montreal on Expert/Legenday.
I’ve set the FFB up properlly with my G25 (how many have done this I wonder or just used the same old isi engine settings)
I’ve fixed the frameratestutter. It’s running now everything on ultra with all AA at max. Very Smooth.
Just a totally brilliant experience. The track and car were a living thing. match that with the best AI I’ve driven against. I’d go as far as to say they out do Gp4 finally as they do things during a full weekend Gp4 didn’t
Managing the car when the tyres scrub in then go away, sometimes going back again. playing with the balance of the car for corners or straights. Watching the track rubber in and seeing the AI take full advantage before I’d realized the game supported such a feature (lol)
    Just brilliant.

You think this is arcade then stop treating it as such. Grand Prix lasts longer than 3 or even 20 lap races.
You win a full distance race on the highest settings and then tell me its arcade.
Just because it’s a Codemasters game doesn’t mean they can’t bang out a full blown sim now and again. you know.
It may not have the physics to outdo iRacing or Netkar, but I tell you what like GP4 before it, it absolutely nails the whole Grand Prix weekend experience perfectly.

  • Marcuz

Hi Spaceman, care to tell us about how you fixed the framerate/stutter? What is your PC config? Apparently you never experienced the downshift lag bug so I’m really curious on your rig. Thanks.

  • KamyKaze

    Oh.
    OK.
    Thanks for the info ;)

  • Turkey :D

    Yeah. F1 2010 runs pretty bad here…

  • Acestumacher

Anyone know how to stop my name appering onscreen during online races, I assume its picking my sound up and annoying my fellow drivers!!

  • Fonzie

    Graphics 9/10
    AI 9/10
Physics 2/10 this is where the fun gets spoiled !!!, i normally can enjoy a good arcade racer, like dirt2 i drive that on regular basis, there you got feeling with the car, in F1 2010 there is just something not wright.
    Controls and FF 3/10
    Game play 9/10

So i follow on the most parts you say, its a nice game spoilt by “to” arcade physics IMO.

  • Firestarter

Horrible user interface, i will never get used to those console GUIs.

Very limited physics, i can`t even lock the tires, it feels like the car is hovering and turning based on a pivot point.

There is no sense of speed.

This was a total horrible experience. Not impressed by the graphic either, the realtime environmental mapping on the car is like it`s locked to a framerate of 15 fps, half of the game fps.

I would give it 3 out of 10.

  • Spaceman

You assume wrong. The lag was awful.

Downshift lag resolved = switch rapture sound driver to software. Update to latest logitech software.

Framerates resolved. = It’s to do with a huge replay cache file on your C: drive. It’s hidden and over 2 gig in size. The game constantly writes to this so you can watch the whole race afterwards (note not the little 15 second replays, ram takes care of that.)
To fix make sure hidden files are viewable. goto your C:ProgramDataCodemastersFormulaOneDataCacheCarlreplay
now make the file READ ONLY.
Now you wont get replay at end of race but will still get the 15 sec in race replays.
This is why slower HDDs are getting hurt.
My FFB fixed. = made a logitech profile. Set everything to 100% including the springdampers
Make sterring lock 900 degrees (crazy but wait)
Ingame set deadzones off. Saturation at 25% for steering.
                          set wheel weight to 100%
                          set environment to 40%
Now you’ll get 1.1 steering with the smoothness of a 900 degree resolution.

    I’m running
    8500 wolfdale at stock
    4 gig ram
    gtx285

ingame 1680×1050 8xqcsaa (highest) everything on ultra. vsync off
I also run and this is important D3DOVERRIDER to enble tripplebuffer under DX9.

    Hope this helps anyone

    This “Game” issnt a G.A.M.E.!
Not an Acarde Game, for sure not a Simulation.

This Produkt is the first Videophotorealistic SimgameSimulation.
    F1 2010 is a FAKE!

There is Nothing wich has to do with the Illusion of Driving a Car.

And i mean..the pure DrivingExperience..wich could be Arcarde Crash races..FlatoutMentality etc..

Every professional RacingWheel is just not neccerary to use this Video Pseudogame.
I dont wanna think about RacingRigs, Simulators etc.

F1 2010 is just Make-Up..its Virtual Plastic Chirurgie!
Its a Wonderbra on Wheels 8-)

Guys..see it what is it….its a MainstreamProduct with innovated Visualistic, wich will suggest you its a Simulation.
Kids, (from 7-15) get mad..get crazy and get manipulated..but every serios SimRacingFreak, Arcarde Junkie will be dissapointed, because F12010 has nothing to to with Driving/Racing!
    Its Porno.

I now own the v2 and can clearly feel kerbs. But there are no bumps anywhere. Singapore is as flat as a baby’s ass. :(

  • AndreasT

Maybe try different cars. I cannot see why this should be a problem, but with Lotus on Bahrain I has downshift issues as well (lag + someone doing an additional shift for me!?). Later I tested Ferrari on Singapore and everything was fine.

  • Spaceman

wouldn’t blame the game if 15 frames is all you can manage. no wonder you cannot expereince the feel of the car.
Like i said play on expert with all aids off over a full race distance with a correctly configured wheel, play around with the setups as you’ll need to on these settings and try to win even with one of the top 3. Then tell me you can’t lock wheels or get the arse out or sense your destroyed tryes 10 laps in.
This game is amazing. It’s a Grand Prix simulator. When you watch Sunday you won’t see them do 3 lap races (though would be fun) and you won’t see them hacking at the wheel either, just smooth inputs.

  • Spaceman

Whatever you’re smoking I’d like some because you sir make zero sense.

  • Turkey :D

Once they start fixing bugs, I’ll give it an 8.5 out of 10

  • Spaceman

I’ve loved and still play every Geoff title and Codies F1 game feels more like Grand Prix 5 everytime I run it. Don’t be put off if this is what you seek as I strongly beleive this title has better AI than GP4 and I never ever thought I’d say that. These guys even pump in quali style banzai laps before mid race pitstops.
If however you were after some iRacing style unrealistic hacking and sawing at the wheels type action with the cars sideways all the time. I’d avoid. F1 cars don’t behave like that.
and yes I do iRace some of the cars are realistic in a sense, some of them waaaayy off the mark.

  • Spaceman

Remeber everyone hated Geoff’s games whenever they were released. Calling them rotten. “it’s not GPL” “it’s not Nascar 2003″ blah blah

  • F1_fan_1

    You said: C:ProgramDataCodemastersFormulaOneDataCacheCarlreplay.

But I don’t have those folders or they must be having a different name. ProgramData is Program Files on my PC for example.

  • Firestarter

Spaceman: Learn to read. And the game is not amazing, it`s completely rubbish. Much smaller dev teams have done much better then this years ago, and i rather support them then people that rely on heavy marketing to fool people buying a rubbish game.

  • unklepepper

Having a bit of a play around with all sorts of setting im really starting to enjoy this game now I have good frame rates. This may help anyone with an ATI card who is experiencing frame rates bellow 30 no matter what gfx settings/res.

My specs are very capable of producing lots of FPS: i7 920, 4800×2, 1920.1080 res, 6gb ram, win 7 x64

I first noticed an improvement when I ALT + Enter to windowed then maximised so it was almost full native res. This doubled the frame rate to 60+ AND forced the GFX card to 80% from 55% (the CPU stayed an average 50% across al 4 cores)

Sadly windowed mode produced sudden slomo then fastforward sort of glitches every 30 seconds or so. This was also the case once I tabbed back to full screen, but it kept the frames upto 60+ RESULT…. ish!

So I guessed it must be a gfx driver/game incompatability????

Long story short after lots of ATI control panel adjustments I found the only thing that made a difference was disabling catalyst AI. Its in the 3D section of the ATI panel. I believe it changes driver setting based upon  game specific profiles added by ATI?

Frames at full res, ultra quality, full screen now stay a constant 60+ :)

The game as I said becomes more enjoyable with no stutters, slowdown, delays. The cars feel more alive!

Also FFB fiddles for G25/27 make the lack luster feedback a little better. currently I have: 400 deg rotation (my standard) usual logitech settings. In game: FFB environmental @ 80% strength @ 60% Wheel weight @ 70%
This gives a little more feeling over bumps and curbs without making the wheel want to fall apart on rummble strips. There is even a little feel of camber change and so on on tracks that are not super smooth like valencia.

Now I can enjoy this title and gone is the feeling that my wallet was raped for £30.

Hope this waffle can assist others in a similarly frustrated position :)

  • Markuz

@Spaceman, I already set my audio to Software, did that even before doing any laps. I even uninstalled Rupture to make sure. I still have the horrible downshift lag but you are right! I did some experiments by downgrading or upgrading my drivers to no avail. I found out that when I look at the gear number on the HUD it shifts exactly when I tell it to. It’s the sound that is lagging! Sadly updating my onboard sound drivers to latest still doesn’t solve it.

  • Frenzic

Hehe i luv it, my kids have a console and i have a pc and i think that F1 2010 belongs on a console, not my poor pc, its a shame really i mean it could have been but aint, i aint changin the fact of my opinion and you dinosaur (which im sure you look like one ;) ) if u see a trailer for a film, and it look brilliant and go to the pictures to watch it and its shite are you impressed or what?, the crew at P1 Motorsports just slightly know there racin and they laughed too, Come on simbin, make enuf money to grab the F1 liscense, you deserve it, and would use it well, codemasters waste it, glad i didnt BUY the game, i would have if i liked it……….

  • opticalust

anyone find that replay file in the steam version?

  • opticalust

The game would be alright, if it wasn’t broken for so many people including me…

@spaceman   This is anything but a grandprix simulator. The only thing this simulates even partly well is the soap-opera, and I leave those for my wife.

  • Spaceman

    C:ProgramDataCodemastersFormulaOneDataCacheCarlreplay.

Is under VistaWin 7 and the folder is hidden.
If you don’t know how to view files then I suggest you leave it alone. That stuff is rudimenatry PC stuff to be honest.

  • opticalust

thanks. missed the programdata part. well give it a shot for the 30th time. Be nice if this could actually be working. Since every other racing game under the sun runs like a champ on this system.

  • mike88

this is got to be one of the buggiest game ever released there is already 50 page thread on bugs in the game.

  • Markuz

Yeah, decreased resolution to have framerates that run around 50. With smooth framerates it’s really fun. Rain is fantastic. The sound lag isn’t.

Hold 0n. You’re looking for fixes in trying to get the game to work after what was it the 30th time and yet you’ve judged it on those merits. Hopefully you can get the game to work and then have a good go at it without distraction before passing judgment. I know it’s frustrating but it really is a Grand Prix simulator.

So if not intoxicated must be just an idiot with a keyboard then.

  • Pudu

I get some very weird FFB effects (G27) at certain places on various tracks. It is always the same place on the tracks.

Bahrain Turn 4 – Under heavy braking the FFB just disappears completely and then as I exit it comes back with a vengeance, in completely the wrong direction. It feels almost like it disappears and returns but a second or two behind the actual time/space location of the car.

Then as I cross the sector line from 1 to 2 it gives me this random thump for no reason.

There are few more weird spots through the twisty new (and awful) bit of sector 2 and then it seems to settle down for the rest of the lap.

This happens at different sections on every track I’ve tried.  It makes FFB a detriment rather than improve feedback from the car. I’d turn it off completely but then I get a huge dead zone in the spring.

If anyone has settings that work well for G25/27 please share.

  • Bert

What a fu…. bad game…..codemasters  are for many years bad in racegames….grafics briliant….driving bad, very bad……no feeling about the car…what a mess…..hope there comes a simulation patch and a steering wheel patch…f1 games and mods rules…but nit from codemaster!!!

  • F1Racer

yeah like every post there is relevant.  remove the repetitions, crap and bitching and you probably have 4-5 pages or worthwhile commentary.

GTEvo,  if language was coloured you’d be a rainbow mate.

  • Fortec Motorsport (British F3 Championship)

I totaly agree with you there Bert, and so do our team, we have had this running in the chillout area at races a few weeks ago and, although nice to look at, when you start playing it, it suddenly becomes apparent in a way like this: its like a platinum and diamond toilet, lush on the outside, crap inside!..im with you

  • Jack

can someone please comment on the PS3 version, esepcially on the steering and brake. I’m planning to buy the PS3 version as my PC is pretty slow in today’s standard.

  • Cenotaph

go outdoor -> my f1 or whatever it is called

and there’s a graphics thingy there to change

  • Krazee

There are some clips on YouTube for the ps3 version. I have a ps3 but got the pc version mainly because of possible future mods. You will have no problems setting up your steering wheel for ps3. I have the brakes saturation set to 75% and steering saturation to 80%. The feel is not the same as rfactor but it is ok. People are forgetting that this games is the only f1 game with proper qualifying mode and all the 2010 tracks. I think it worth the buy if you are a fan.

It is funny cause last year I went out and bought a steering wheel, a racing frame with seat and a new pc cause this was supposed to come out last year. When it didn’t I was :(. So with this game I am going to get my monies worth. My wife made me move my racing rig so now I have to play on a 24″ monitor instead of my 46″ tv – joys of getting married:)

Roll on part two, when the World Rally Championship game is released, we already know what the pyhsics will be like dont we…..Hardcore Bedroom sim players

  • cosmo1973

All the hype from codemasters and what do we get, a steaming pile of sh**te. The sound lags whether on software or rapture, the cars have no feeling of speed and no matter how you set up the car it never feels any different. No point going on about all the other bugs..too many to mention!! I only hope is that someone from codemasters reads this entire thread and realises they’ve cocked up big time!

  • Dave

    Scripted Qualification Times :(

    Question:-
@T4RG4 Love the game, but 1 question; why don’t you use real times in quali and practice? I caught Webber on track, but his time was faster?!

    Answer:-
@Noelinho Because we couldn’t make them compete in Qualy this time out Looking to sort that though

  • Wesley

lol, if this game is this bad then WRC would come out great lol, as the games where ompletely the opposite of each other lol

Folks, this is a load of $hit, this is a very good game and if you haven’t tried it your only cheating yourself.  These guys did a very good job recreating a very difficult series with a ton of rules and guidelines.

    Here is what’s good stuuf…:
    1) Fantastic Tracks… 19 total as good as you’ve ever seen them
    2) Excellent Sense of speed (FOV mods have helped here, easy to install)
    3) Easy to drive – Very Difficult to go fast with all Assist OFF!!!
    4) All cars will Spin Out with NO TC if wheel controller set properly
    5) Front brakes lock-up easily, again setup of controller is critical, but easy!
    6) Pit Stops are fantastic.
    7) Top three teams, McL, Fer, RB are on-top all LEADERBOADS, don’t believe folks when they day they can take pole/top track lap times with lower teams, leaderbaords proves this!!!
    8) Engine Sounds are OK, at best, most are same from car to car IMHO, needs improvement!
    9) Environment is Fantastic, all the sounds and activities you would expect in F1
    10) Career mode is Second to None in any video game
    11) AI is also Second to None in any video game.  You have to setup difficulty properly!

    Cons:
    1) Load Times
    2) FOV for Cockpit (modding has helped, but what game doesn’t improve from modes?)
30 Some bugs, what game doesn’t have them, not like old days when everyone had same basic systems… today there are thousands of different combinations of gaming systems.   I’m sure these will be corrected
    4) FPS, not great, but I feel this will be corrected to run close to dirt 2.

My $0.02 cents, as so many folks are not giving these guys and programmers the credit they deserve!!!

GREAT WORK CODE MASTERS, THANK YOU FOR A VERY GOOD F1 GAME,PLEASE MAKE IT GREAT WITH PATCH!!!

  • F1Racer

Sigh!   Well I was in Melbourne in Practice 1.  Nice sunny clear day.   After some laps on the Prime tyres honing a stable setup, I switched to Options and set a pretty good time.  Maybe I was running a conservative setup but I went to the pits to try something.
I switched tyres and went back out.  On my 2nd hotlap, I lost 0.4s in S1, lost 0.2 more in S2 and lost 0.8s in S3, leaving me 1.4s slower on the lap.
Thing is I didnt switch back to Primes.  I was on full wets!    So is this normal ?  The car wasn’t sliding, it felt almost as grippy as the Option tyres.    Surely that gap should be a lot lot more.

Anyway Im in the middle of writing my own personal review so I`ll add this experience to it and get that out soon.

  • RKipker

IRL, wets take a couple laps to really show poor performance… are the results the same if you do say 3-4 laps.  It is a game, so it may take a few laps more than real life, which is 2-3 in which they basically break down.

  • RKipker

So you’ve been running F1 for a few weeks… and so has your team… Sure and Code Master’s just sent you the game and all your team so you could come on here and give us a real unbias opinion.

Guys, everyone need to make up their own minds, these guys are full of Crap IMHO.  Game has been on since the 20th/21st at best except a few special persons/Mag’s.

This game has way more feel than many games on the market straight out the box.  Better than rFactor without RealFeel on a G25.  I did find rfactor better on Fanatec w/out RealFeel .  But that’s another story!

Guys you have to remove all assist and set your wheel to your liking, there are some control tweaking available.

  • F1Racer

I should try it for more laps maybe.   I did the maybe 4 hot laps on the Options and its condition was 87%,  the full wets were 91% after 3 hot laps.

It’s a bit disconcerting I`d say though because full slicks should slay the full wets on a dry track.

  • f0xx

I was wondering where was your review in the middle of the +350 comments..

anxiously waiting for it and Montoya’s aswell :P

  • Tekk

Thank you very much. In my case (I have an ATI as well) it helped me a lot. Now I enjoy the driving, bun I’d never guess it was the catalist AI. Thanks again, folk

  • TheDevilInMe

now now child…..how i love this site ;) lol

  • Dave

Doubt it as the pc demo doesn’t even support wheels
    only keyboard and controllers.
    :(

  • F1Racer

Just found another bug.  Had a dry Practice 1 and and a Wet Practice 2 at Melbourne.
After P2, I had the option to watch a replay.
In the replay the track was dry and as my car was lapping around it was creating a wet trail behind it, leaving wet tyre tracks as it went.  Ive got it on video so I think I should post that on the CM forum if no-one from CM is reading this thread.

  • AndreasT
  • F1Racer

ok here’s the wet replay bug video  YouTube – F1-2020 wet replay bug

  • AndreasT

Bugs everywhere… Actually I hoped the game would become good enough to have some fun sometimes, but with so many bugs I’m starting to dislike it and will play something else for a while. And 2 punctures in a race after a few laps with a set of fresh hard tires each time doesn’t help too much.  :-P

  • Krazee

Just out of interest. What is your setup? I have virtually go no input lag with 80% steering saturation and my brakes lock up with a 75% brake saturation. However, if I am on the accelerator too much with a quick steering turn I will spin. Not sure how real that is given steering lock in game cannot be adjusted.

If you can please let us know what your setup is outside and inside the game

    Thanks!

I agree with you – game is quite good. Just wished they would not charge so much here in Australia with our dollar being high and all. AUD$74! Which is about $70 USD.

  • migf1

Sad but true, AI is phoney! That’s a huge one, unfortunately for Codemasters!

  • crosschris

MY GOD! This is some serious stuff…And with the AI being one of the few things people are raving about… :(

  • stabiz

Weird to read that, rpkiper, as its confirmed by the devs that the qual AI is fake, and there is also a s***storm brewing about the AI being fake all together. The scripted events are also stated. I dont see this as good AI.

  • stabiz

If this is true they have outdone themselves. I game about “living the life” cant have fake AI.

  • opticalust

This just gets better and better.

  • F1Racer

yeah this is true.   This plus the hugely restrictive replay system plus the lack of gap times in the race plus the pit stop bug…  oh dear :(   Have you seen the bug lists on the Codemasters forum ?  Its very lengthyl

Some major oversights in an otherwise good game.

Anyway thee is some realism from time to time…

The engine sounds like a baby crying, especially when you over rev. Terrible.

  • Jack

F1Racer, r u really disapointed by the game afterall? coz u were one of those who were very optimastic about the game b4 the release…. i really want to hear your opinion as im planning to buy the ps3 version on Monday…. Thanks!

  • Sigmatc24

have someone ever locked the tires while breaking ? All the assists are OFF and still the car is breaking magically good even when I squeeze the break pedal like mad and I have a very average wheel (Saitek R660 GT) :-D

Plus impossible to spin even when I squeeze the throttle pedal like mad too :-D

A shame that such a good looking game is penalized with a terrible gameplay :(

  • schumacher

you can lock your brakes up and you can spin

  • f0xx

Holy sh*t, that’s such an important component of a racing game, especially F1.

Codemasters will have to say something about this!

  • F1Racer

    Hi Jack,
I wrote a huge reply for you but it got lost in hyperspace after I pressed the Post button.  This is such a frustrating bug ridden reply system and I am friggin’ sick of ‘waiting for js-kit.com’.
Sorry about that but I am not writing all that again.  Its so fucking frustrating to lose so much text because this system couldnt update it.  Unbelievable !

I can therefore only make a quick summary and say that on the whole the game is good and potentially great.  It has a lot of bugs, some are show-stopping.  Average sounds, crap replay system (my biggest gripe) and some bugs that should never have made it past CM’s QA department.
Wet weather effects are stunning and blow GP4 back to the dark ages.

Check out the Codemasters forums (especially the bugs thread) any maybe it can help you make up your mind.    If you’re a big F1 fan then definately get it and hope CM squash the bugs.

OK now to copy this msg to clipboard just in case it doesnt wanna post this either !

  • F1Racer

definately.  sometimes you spin for no apparent reason though.   but yes you can lock up.  more so if you switch your brake pressure up to ‘high’.

  • Justin ForzaBarça D’Cruze

Just tested that, and not surprised to find the timings are 100% fake. I kinda suspected that from my qualifying timings but having confirmed its absolutely baffling to think that they’ve gone down that path in an F1 game.
However I’m not convinced that the AI cars dont actually go around the track – more than anything theres no logic behind codemasters doing it because it would arguable be more complicated for them to fake the AI cars in that manner.

Btw crosschris, this takes nothing away from the behaviour of the ai cars because they are still impeccable in a dogfight. Just a shame you cant make them faster although that issue (and all the other bugs for that matter) seem dwarfed by this timing farce…..

  • F1Racer

I can spin if I nail the throttle out of a corner and there are many times Ive missed a corner because of a lock up (last chicane into Spa for example).  If you want to lock up dont forget you can adjust your brake pressure up from the detault ‘Medium’ to ‘High’.
It certainly is NOT impossible to spin.  Sure its dumbed down a little but its not impossible.

Not spinning or locking brakes is the least of CM’s worrys on this game unfortunately.

  • F1Racer

Well of course the AI’s do go around he track in quali.   When you see one go past your pit garage you can follow him out and follow him around.  Its just that the times they post on track dont match up to what you see in the final results.   It’s an unfinished product and this ‘solution’ because they couldnt get the cars to compete in quali is disgusting and a misreprentation.  Faked spins are tolerable but qualifying AI in an licenced F1 game ?   No excuse.  Crammonds GP1 had qualifying AI ffs!

  • Justin ForzaBarça D’Cruze

Yep its an absolute joke. What I mean about the AI cars going around the track is actually relating to a theory by some people on that codemasters thread regarding this issue. In a nutshell they seem to think that AI cars which are not visible/near the player’s car dont actually go around the track, but are rather “placed” on the track based on the fake timings. Which would explain why the AI that you follow around the track does actually go around. But honestly the idea seems pretty ridiculous to me, I’ll eat my g25 if codies really did do something that messed up….

  • Krazee

Also adjust the brake settings for your pedals …

  • Novum

So how does it work without the SC?
Im watching the Singapore GP and the SC has been out twice now…

    Big pileups?

  • Sensekhmet

I’m not really sure. Keep in mind rain tyres have a lot of small thread blocks that move about a lot, create a lot of heat and this impacts the tires massively since rain compunds are very soft. They will slide a lot, buuild up temperature, start to turn into chewing gum, that will heat them up further, etc. I think that in 2 laps on dry thack they should start to disintegrate (as in’pieces of rubber flying in the air’).

  • infanticide

Just did 49 laps of Bahrain in Lotus and all went good – no stupid AI like in rfactor, no crashes to desktop, no bugs. Sure, the game is not perfect. Two things comes to my mind when I think of what Codemasters could have done better: safety car – they wanted to give us F1 experience as real as possible, but it cant be done without one of most important factors in modern F1 (see todays race); second – the games OSD is just wrong for such a game, it was good in Grid or Dirt, but here … it just doesnt work for me: when I am racing I need to take a really quick look at timings, gaps etc. and focus on driving, but in F12010 what game shows to the player is not that obvious. When I was running 19th behind DiGrassi almost through out entire race  I was wondering how much of a gap I had to him – I know the game shows it, but it was difficult to focus on the information because the game is showing couple of things in one place. Anyway, there should be an info about the gaps to the car in front and to the car behind from your engineer – just like it was in F1 Challenge 99-02.
BTW, anyone spotted sparks from cars (from flor or collisions)?

  • Marcel Penzkofer

Main Problem of the game is, that the AI is way to easy to beat. I set every driving aid to “off” and the AI to “Legend” and still I finished 9th in Q3 with my Dallara HRT F1 at Bahrain, a track I never raced on any sim in my whole life… Love the game though, just the fact that I’m with a car that should be 20 million seconds of the pace in Q3 annoys me heavily

  • Jack

    Thanks F1Racer!

i just read that you said you cannot spin the car… okay thats quite a show stopper….
    but i’m a big F1 fan…. so….. haha

  • Marcuz

And it barks like a puppy when you downshift every single time.

  • Marcuz

^^ Yes, like actually being playable on non-I9 CPUs and non-dual GPU setups. Dang, E8400@3.6GHz + GTX 470 + 4GB RAM + Replay Cache read only. Average FPS on LOW: 48 FPS.

  • Marcuz

Yeah, kinda weird. Setups don’t feel different. Lap times get affected though. It’s just that there’s no way to tell if you need more wing, or stiffness, grrr…

  • Marcuz

Actually, I noticed that the reason why I spin on some corners is because I gave it a wee bit too much gas. Unfortunately the FFB doesn’t tell me I’m about to spin at all. And, omg, THE CURBS! It rattles my G25 so hard!

  • Sensekhmet

Alright, I finally got the game… and I can’t play it. No matter what I do, i can’t get the FPS to go above 20 (!!!) on the track, setting audio to software does not help. This is utter and complete bullshit, I’m getting some insane FPS figures in the menus (80-ish) and when I go to the track: bam, 15-20.
I have Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM and a GeForce 9800GT with 512MB and so far didn’t have any problems with ANY games: sure, I wasn’t running on max settings and olny 1024×768 (old monitor) but it never broke a sweat on high, regardless of what I was throwing at it. DIRT2 is simply fying, both online and offline.
What the hell is going on? Did my PC suddenly turn useless overnight?

  • Jack

after listened to F1Racer’s advise, i drove all the way from vancouver to bellingham to buy this game

well, after spending 35 mins of track time in the game, i think it isnt that bad afterall
it is def. not a similator in terms of car physics, but it does simulate the atmosphere around the paddok well

and i really love the qualifying session… it does give you pressures
also in the game you can really see the difference in diff fuel loads…. also you need to learn how to look after you tires….

yes i have to agree with many ppl here that the cars got too much downforce and FFB is very bad
but as a F1 fans, i still enjoy this game. way better then NFS shift!

  • F1Racer

yikes mate.  It should run on that hardware.  Ive seen people posting lesser spec PCs running it.
All I can suggest, unless you have already done so, is to visit the CM forum and see if others have FPS issues and if not maybe post a message there and see if anyone can help.
The framerate capping seems to be set in a very strange way.  My rig is an i7-930 @ 4.00ghz with an Nvidia 480GTX and 6Gb RAM (Win7 64bit) and once I hit the track Im only getting 70fps, but again, it’s capped there.  I get 140fps in the pit garage.   Its all a bit wierd.

  • Sensekhmet

That will be difficult, since I got IP permabanned for writing in a DIRT 2 thread that China is a totalitarian country (‘banned for spreading racial, cultural and/or religious hatred’ and no, it’s not a joke).
To make thing more frustrating, when I fired it up today I got 30 FPS (capped?)! Then I turned it off, plugged the wheel in and… back to same shit. Treid to unplug the wheel again but it didn’t change a thing.

  • jpmjpm

“no stupid AI like in rfactor”

You’re right. Because there is no AI at all in F1-2010.  Read this: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/431006-confirmed-race-ai-phoney.html

  • F1Racer

    Phew, no pressure then ;)

I hope you get some good enjoyment from it and for now we just sit tight an wait for CodeMasters to patch it (hopefully properly).   Potentially its actually really good for a first attempt.  But there are many bugs, some features missing that should be there and a couple of things (like the scripted AI) that is inexcusable.
