F1 2010 – Monaco Reality Check Video

DigiProst has posted a very interesting video on Youtube, comparing in-game footage from Codemasters’ soon to be released F1 2010 title with footage from the 2008 Monaco Grand Prix.

We get to see a full lap around the world’s most famous street circuit in the rain, giving us the chance to compare both the track accuracy and car’s performance on track.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released September 24.

  • Pascal

This is old build from GC.
Driving on Water is easy, but Codemasters Fix it.

    Cant wait

  • F1Racer

There’s no doubt, the wet weather driving in F1-2010 looks seriously impressive.

  • Woodee

    Looks pretty impressive!

  • Simosimosimo

the game looks more real than the real!

  • Cypher

    Wow,very impressive.
A few weeks ago I had my doubts about this game, but after watching this I’m seriously considering getting this.
Keep it up Codies, hope that you really can impress me with this game.

  • Mike Oppenheimer

FAKE….Rosberg could never blow by Webber like that.

In all seriousness, its loking real good so far….

  • cosmo1973

Seriously impressed so far, just hope that F1 2010 plays as good as it looks.

  • felipe

I dont know what this will turn out to be but I´ve to say for more than once I didn´t know which was the game cam 🙂

  • f1racing

me too…only difference is this HUD from codemasters which shows what is game 😉

  • flips

    wow…  this video made me wish I liked F1 racing…  😛

  • totalO

The only critizism I can find in this video is the flashing red “warning” lights on the cars are brighter in the real vid than in the game. That’s the only thing I could find, other than that WOW.

  • Mojo66

That overtaking stunt at the swimming pool chicane lends me to believe that the AI will probably suck. As with most racing games, they put the most work into the graphics, then physics, then AI. People will be gasping with open mouths at the graphics, but as soon as the serious driving begins, the eye candy is secondary. Who wants to look at a racing game?

  • mf

    Very impressive. Me likey.

  • GTEvo

  • JaguarGod

OK, though I have been a sim racer for a long time (makes me feel old) and am partial to the physics of a game as opposed the graphics, I also love me some eye-candy! These graphics look ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING! Codemasters has done an incredible job creating a game that, on looks alone, will get people to buy it! I simply cannot wait to try it out.

  • Juan C

hype and more hype on a game that shows nothing new… and shows lack of official overlays, but wait, the LG logo do appear!! And movements of the arms like rfactor addon…. Like I said, hype and more hype.

  • Simosimosimo

ther is no spray in the real!

  • Philip Oakley

Most XBox 360 10 year olds?

  • Danny

Omg, looks horrible. Overhyped game and nothing more. Physics will be crap and graphics are not as good as you think. Even rFactor have much better graphics, and thats a 5 year old game.
I dont want to talk about AI, it’s very bad.

  • Hakkifan

In what world does rfactor look better?

  • Firefox

    Have you played it?

  • racedriver

Impressive. Weather effects is really well done I think. It is going to be good game.

  • jackazzhole

if it wasnt for the stupid rain beads i wouldn’t of actually been able to tell from the thumbnail.

  • Taylor Ling

Really can’t wait for the game! One more month to go!

  • jackazzhole

yeah maybe if u had some balls you would.

  • Flaux

Well it’s impressive… Listened to all the developer-videos and thinking about the time and manpower they took to build up this beauty is enough to give them credit and money for this game. (What was it? 30 peeps for one track and it takes half a year to build? Impressive)

  • Flaux

It’s the Dirt2 engine so it’s proven to be better than what modders have done to rfactor. Maybe it could look like this but there are a lot of things only pro’s can build or create…

  • jpmjpm

The swimming pool is so wide on the simulation, that i can’t believe. Just watch the onboard footage. The car touches the kerbs on both sides. In the game the car doesn’t touch the kerbs and being overtaken by another car. In reality there is no way to overtake at the swimming pool section.

And also, why can’t we see the ful lap?

  • F1Racer

Dunno what to say to that.   The F1-2010 video wasn’t meant to simulate that specific real day in the real video.   Rain races do produce spray regardless of how wet that track was on the real video on that day.

  • f1racing

    even less…about 24-25 days 😉

  • f1racing

but also ingame he slows down too much, than he turns left also too much so there is no need to go to right kerb and while he is so slow and let too much space AI which passed chicane much faster and in correct line just passed by…if he was on ideal line there is no chance that AI car would pass him 😉

  • RKipker

I agree, I’m in for PC version and Xbox 360 version!

  • RKipker

Horrible, go look the GT5… now that’s HORRIBLE!!!

  • RKipker

    10-4… I agree completely!

  • RKipker

Wow, I thought it was only me… but for first two turns, I thought Hamilton was game cam…. then I seen the HUS of course!  Of course in the tunnel, it is very obvious which is game!

I’m glad it’s a little wider, the game needs a little wider for fun, if not I’d skip it (as I do in other games now) I never race on it only practice/TT!

  • spliff

    don’t feed him! 😉

  • jpmjpm

Even if someone goes slow into that corner, THERE IS NO ROOM for another car to pass. Just watch some real swimming pool footage. 😉

  • MS

Looks very impressive (graphics only) but i expect not much from physics, as it also runs on xbox… Will buy it definitively, because of all the F1 Tracks and beautiful graphics.

Can’t wait to compare the Codemasters Williams F1 and Spa with the ones from iRacing once they are out!

  • DeDios

    looks greally good 🙂

  • stephen300o

Wow! thats great. Well done Codemasters.

  • milo

it does look good, the water sitting on the screen is worrying, hope it just that camera angle and not when incar.

  • Ahmad

  • Dillyracer

You really are an idiot aren’t you?

  • f0xx

Looks quite amazing, incredible work Codemasters.

Btw wheres the big bump between T4 and T5?

  • Ryan

    Wait, 2 problems!!

    – Can’t only iRacing show “reality checks”? 😛

-I think I saw some overtaking on the Codies screen.  That’s not very realistic at all!!

  • Koen Calleyl

One thing that all previous F1 games seems to have, and this one has it again … The driver really has to flip the steering wheel more than 180° to take a hairpin. Look at how slightly webber is steering in Loews hairpin.

  • alexands

really? i seem to recall a huge uproar a few years back when Schummie made a pass at the swimming pool.  It was a nice wide open pass, but they didn’t touch either.

  • Taunstad

got lost somewhere along the way of the incredible work

  • RoNo

looks pretty good…they should add a bit more illumination and contrast to get it even better look and there is too much raindrops on the visor compare to real one cam.

  • Mojo66

Did you notice that the AI car crashed into the guard rail after the passing manouver?

  • Creatorex

Blinking is not ok 😛 hahah Looks pretty good even some vids show interesting wheel to game and physics idea and let’s see!!!

  • jpmjpm

That pass was exiting the tunnel, before the chicane, not swimming pool. He was passing Barrichello and the huge uproar was from Barrichello, because he is a crying pussy.

  • jpmjpm

Doesn’t matter. There is physically no room for 2 cars at the swimming pool section. So cannot crash the car after the pass. Nobody ever made a pass there.

  • Timothy Wheatley

This looks good enough to spend some time on. Should be fun no matter how it drives. 🙂

Little concerned about the level of grip shown in the low speed turns (braking into la source looked odd) and the tunnel was pretty darn bright.

  • f1racing

oh man, did you read my comment???? you can see that he goes too much to the left and left much space to his right, so there is room for 2 cars…i think even more because, but when you are going at full speed through that corner in correct line that is problem…then one who is behind can’t overtake…

  • jpmjpm

He goes there 140 kph in the rain. That’s fast. In reality when not raining, they go around 200 kph. The AI car which made the pass goes much faster (170?). Something is wrong there.
