F1 2010 – Manual Available for Download

A few days ago, I first reported on Codemasters’ F1 2010 now also being available for pre-order on Steam where the title sells for 40,49€.

The Steam site offers something else though as the title’s complete manual can be downloaded off Steam. Follow the download link before to get your hands on the PDF-version of the 29-page manual that offers plenty of details on the title’s game modes, setups, pit stops & more.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released September 24.

It’s a pity Steam isn’t being incorporated in the PC retail version (maybe 2011 codies?  πŸ˜‰ ), but nonetheless I’ll be picking this up on the 24th. It’s taking a while to win me over, but hopefully the passion and enthusiasm shown by the developers for F1 will result in a great title.

  • F1Racer

Cool, you even get penalised for going over the white line when exiting the pits.  That’s a first.

  • Dave

Seems to be selling for a lots less in other stores than steam ,id shop around
average seems to be 19 to 20 sterling and under 30 euro

  • f1racing

and looks like you can drive trough pits…but I am still confused about that part…

  • mf

Great, I was able to have a look. It’s great to have the manual, even if it makes waiting for the game release even more difficult. I’m glad to read that you accelerate the time during practice and qualifiying, something that cannot be done in Rfactor. Also, nice to know you can just pick up any car and and track if you don’t feel like going for a full career mode.

  • Nanny

IF I bought the game through steam, Do I need an internet connection for play? regards

  • piston broke

you’ve always been able to accelerate time in rFactor (usually ctrl + T) or you can just end the session if that takes too long.

  • Hydro_PT

You don’t need an internet connection to play on Steam, but you will need an internet connection to download the game after you buy it. Also any updates via STEAM will require an internet connection, as well as achievements, leaderboards and online play. πŸ™‚

  • mf

You’re right, my mistake, it’s been quite a while since I’ve played the game, sorry about the confusion.

  • F1Racer

ok with the pits, you can either have the game do the pit limiter for you so you can’t speed in the pits, or you do it yourself in which case you are responsible for hitting the limiter at the right time when you come in and not speed in the pit lane.  If you do, you can get a drive-thru.

As for the pit stop itself, once the car is in the pit lane, its on automatic pilot and the only thing you have control of is the brakes to stop the car at the right point in your pit box.  Overshoot it and you lose time as the crew have to shuffle forward.  You can even knock over your front jack guy.

On pit exit, again, if the limiter is on automatic, you have no worries, if its on manual control, then you need to keep it on until you have fully exited the pits and then remember to stay within the white lines.

So in effect you dont have steering control of the car while in the pit lane.  Maybe and hopefully we will see that in F1-2011.  It’s no biggie I don’t think.  But having it in for F1-2011 would be nice even though it does mean quite some extra programming.  But they could do it like GP4 did it where you steered but it was still impossible to hit the crew.    Or make it so the car goes through the pit crew and the only hittable person is YOUR front jack guy.   All other collisions are ignored because thats too many scenarios to code for, not to mention multiple murders.

  • ZombieJim

Really rather excited about this now. Do wish there was a demo though, as I’m not particularly willing to spend £30 just to be disappointed, no matter how much of an englishman I might be.

  • Fokkak Menny

Reading the manual was rather pleasant, giving the details described in the game, and how well it’s organized. I was already excited over this game, now it’s double the excitement. Can’t wait already.

  • Fokkak Menny

Lol, I wonder if it’s possible to knock the lollipop man down, and if that could cause a little of damage to the front wing, aside from the guy’s legs, of course. But anyway, about what I understood from the manual regarding the pits, I think if you set it to manual, not only will you have to hit the limiter on your own, but you’ll also be able to steer the car freely. I’m only making a logical theory since you’ll be the one responsible for slowing down the car properly, and in place.

I mean, it would be pointless to have automated steering, and manual pit control. If so, then the setting should probably be called “Half Manual”.

  • Fokkak Menny

There’s an offline mode in Steam, and it’s nothing serious, if you’re not connected to the internet, Steam would pop up a dialog box warning of internet connection loss, and whether you want to proceed in offline mode. Your saves should sync automatically next time you run Steam, when your internet connection is active. It should…

  • Fokkak Menny

Nothing beats a hard copy in my book.

  • Ahmad

An F1 game has never seen this many options and regulations, it should be good.

  • Sensekhmet

So, people… it isn’t our yet, but it seems more and more of us seem to that you can enjoy a racing game even if it’s not a 100% hardcore sim (again: how many people would be able to score points in races if it was a 100% realistic F1 sim?)?

    I’m making my preorder now.

  • Michael

I was hoping the PDF would look more like real paper! It didn’t seem very realistic to me.  πŸ˜€

  • Suarez16

    Time Trial Party!!! Oh Yeah!!!

  • Michael

Interesting that though because I’m pretty sure the designer recently said you didn’t get penalised for it…

  • Doby

    The manual is very Arcade

  • F1Racer

Fokkak,  it’s been said a few times by CM that there will be no manual steering in the pitlane.  Computer takes over your car in the pitlane and you only have control over braking into your pit box.    Reason being, so CM said, was that it was a lot more work to code in all the variable for people zooming in and mowing down all the pit guys.   Obviously they don’t need to code anything tht makes pit guys fly through the air.    They just need to not have any collision detection and the car would go through them like ghosts. and if you’re say off then the car can auto reset into your pit box.
    Maybe in next years game.

  • KallyBo

You mean you test the manual and the handling is arcadish?

    πŸ˜›

  • Vettel

No, Codies made the AI take over the car because FOM wants that. They don’t want to see people run over pitcrews and stuff.

  • Jayforce

its not quite as comprehensive as I thought it could be … still interested in the game and will certainly be pre-ordering it on steam none the less, more curious to see just how well they have implemented all the features relating to the weather system and track physics πŸ˜€

  • Koen Calleyl

Special thanks to all teams, except WilliamsF1 πŸ˜› – Why would that be?!

  • Ahmad

Lol, good find… either an error or it has something to do with iRacing? duno

  • Yurets

No TrackIr? No telemetry? Its just 3D models pack.

  • Tigerteeth

This is a multiple platform title – Codemasters will not implement features that aren’t supported by the platform it’s intended for. TrackIR and MoTeC telemetry are great features, but are unknown to the mainstream audience that this title is intended for.

Personally, I think it’s significantly more than a ‘3D models Pack’. Like everyone else I’ve been following progress of this title, and what impresses me most (and gives me the most optimism for a successful game) is the developer’s assurance that this will be a great F1 experience. As someone who has played his fair share of Geoff Crammond titles, I cannot wait to see what an F1 game using 2010 technology will bring us.

@F1Racer: Hmm, one more thing however; for the very least I could still not brake at all, and hit someone eventually, unless there’s a noticeable gap between where I should ultimately stop and the lollipop man, you know what I mean? Thing is, I’ll hit the limiter, see the car steering on its own, yet I have to time my braking properly, and if I don’t do that, something has to go wrong, or setting pit controls to manual would be useless in the first place.

My question is this, what is going to happen if I don’t brake at all?

  • Sensekhmet

Hm, no mention of driving aids or racing tips? A little bare bones but still nice.

  • Dave

Or no data got from Williams at all,
because if they got any help from them they should be in the credits.
If it was a mistake ,the manual would have been pulled straight away.

  • f1racing

you’ll miss your place and than pitcrew will need to push you back and you will loose time
