F1 2010 – Get Your Questions Answered

Codemasters’ Formula One 2010 launch event in London is just a mere two days away and Paul Tomlinson of SimRacingWorld will be on hand, reporting from a sim racing perspective.

Paul will be getting the chance to ask the developers some questions and is giving all VirtualR readers the chance to get their question about Codemasters’ upcoming Formula One title answered.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released in September 2010.

    Please rate both Dirt 2 and F1 2010 on a 1 to 10 scale where 1 is a pure arcade game and 10 is a pure simulation. Please rate/comment about playing the game with all assists turned off.

    This will give us a sense about how the developer feels about Dirt 2, a product we know, and thus we’ll get a sense of F1 2010′s simulation qualities.

    Will CM F1 2010 be as realistic as Formula One Championship Edition?

    1.) Will any Formula 1 cars from different eras make it into the game?

    2.) Will the PC system requirements be similar to GRID and DIRT2?

    Will be in the game one version of each car or will have liveries and aero packages?
    Will be included the testing tracks like Jerez and Ricardo Tormo (valencia) circuits)?, it would be nice to have a pre-season or other historical tracks to practice.

    2) About multiplay, Is there any supportive system to administer kind of league? or just make a room and race?
    3) i think Sounds is most important thing so how is it? What CM does concentrate major development area

    - We read you decided to drop laser scan and realize tracks in a different way: can you tell us something more about it? Laser scan usually have the advantage to reproduce tarmac’s conditions too (bumps and so on), how do you think to recreate it?

    - Being in 2010, graphic is an important thing. In one of the first two official screenshots there was a really exaggerated bloom effect: do you plan to tune it down in order to make the whole scene more “real life like” or was it a precise choice (to realize it like that)?

    -Will the game include possible switch of Drivers during the season?
    -Does the carreer mode include more than one season of Formula one, because you show 2009 F1 cars.
    -Will the driver have animated arms and legs?

    - The damage model will be as realistic as in race driver grid or colin mcrae dirt?
    - There will be suspension damage as in iracing?
    - the replay system will be more complete than your recent games?

    1. Let me start race too soon by my unpatient mistake and receive penalty.

    2. After finishing the race, let me drive the cool down lap, do not take the wheel from me immediately after crossing the finish line, that’s worse than coitus interruptus.

    I’m available for beta testing, having raced almost all official F1 games at PS2. :-)

    - How the phisics model will be made to suit all users? As simulated as posible and then dumbed down with assists or the other way around?
    - Will race lenght be scalable in the carrer mode to avoid (stupid) 2-3lap races common to most racing games out there?
    - Will there be a option for helmet/visor vew with tearoff-s (may be unique to every driver)?

    1. Why did you abandon the laser scanned tracks? You released screenshots of some tracks where you have used it, so why did you not do all of them?

    2. I know the reason you decided to skip the SC and formation lap, but wouldn’t it be good to include such a simple thing for those who want it, and make an option in the main menu that you can turn it off?

    As we can see from the first race of the year, the tyres and how drivers manage them during the race will be of great importance. So here are my questions:

    1. How is the tyre wear simulated?
    – Is it affected by the surrounding physics in the virtual world – weather, track surface, tyre degradation, driving style, etc.?
    – Or it’s based on triggers that change the car behavior when a timeout is reached, etc.

    2. Is the tyre behavior affected by the tyre temperatures? If it is:
    – The same sub-question – is it simulated, or it’s more situation (trigger) based?
    – Without a formation lap, which main purpose is to heat the tyres, how the race starts will be implemented. With preheated tyres? Or by some other way … :grin:

    3. Is there tyre flex implemented?
    As in LFS, NFS: Shift, Forza 3, NetKar Pro (I think), etc.

    4. Is the flat-spot effect implemented, and will it affect the FFB and the car handling?
    As in NetKar Pro, LFS, etc.

    5. Will dirt on tyres affect the car behavior – reduced grip, etc.? (After some off-track excursions. :grin: ) Will this dirt be visible on the tyres?
    As in NetKar Pro, LFS (I think), etc.

    Forgive me if this sounds ignorant, but it has been nagging at me. You say the Safety car and formation laps have been removed from the game, stating that we will see why in the final product. If I recall, you mentioned in the forums before that the game would cater for arcade and simulation enthusiasts. There were many arguments about this on the Codemasters forums, and they are desired features.

    My question, essentially, is why were they left from the game?

    just woundering if you would beable to save during mid race like you could in gp4? and will you beable to do it on the xbox360! because theres nothing worse then doin a full distance race than having to stop for some reason .
