<strong><a href="#comment-36301" rel="nofollow">Dark Racer</a></strong>:
If you have played iracing, then you will know that laser scanning adds more than just improving the physics.

</blockquote>

I think you may have mis-interpreted what I was trying to say.

What I was suggesting was why would they go to the trouble of laser scanning the tracks (to ensure their accuracy) if they are then going to give us some GRID type arcade physics. You may as well not bother laser scanning at all since accuracy of any kind is already gone due to the duff physics engine.

<strong><a href="#comment-36186" rel="nofollow">F1Racer</a></strong>: @Sommergemüse: Dirt 2 isnt F1-2010 so it’s not fair to judge the physics or assume this will be arcade until its out.

</blockquote>

F1 2010 won't have sim physics, no more than Grid, Grid 2 (when it appears), Dirt and Dirt 2 do.

Whatever blather the sim community lays at their door, they won't care. They want to sell games and believe the way to do that is to put cheesy American accents and so on into their games, not sim physics.

Like many I got a free copy of Dirt 2 with a Radeon HD5850, and the thing isn't that bad. Sadly Codemasters are pretty much next to useless at supporting their games after release which ruins the experience.

For a freebie, it's not so bad - although I soon stopped playing when I got fed up of all the control niggles. For a game you pay for codemasters are best avoided.

So, you'll be just as well downloading one of the mods for rfactor. If you want to watch high-quality in car views with weather effects et al, F1 starts on BBC1 next week, that's the best place to see them.

Besides the physics, my biggest fear is post sales support. Codemasters have a reputation for patching racing games since TOCA Race Driver 1 just once or twice, leaving real issues unfixed, before moving on eg. the 4000 slot upgrade cheat for TRD3 (they claimed to fix, but failed).

It sounds very much like TOCA Race Driver but with F1 cars.

I don't pin much hope on it being any good from a physics point of view.

Can you read? It says “A release date for the title has not been announced yet.”
</blockquote>

Well don't you feel superior? Good for you, I missed that detail despite the fact that yes, I am able to read. Thanks much for your contribution.

SharkSandwich - too funny that you mentioned that. I was actually excited about the career mode. I imagine that is why it is so hard in this market to hit a home run with a game. I play rfactor, GTR2 etc but always miss the Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II experience.

I guess that is why I am still really enjoying F1 2007 for the PS3 right now as I am still working my way up to a top team.

Anyway, graphics look great. Now I just have to figure out if I want this for my PC or my PS3. (can't do both wife would kill me)

Amazing GFX for sure, but I really, really don't like any type of career mode. Hope for decent physics and the possibility to not do the career thing.

This should be awesome, they just need to do the physics right. And I can't really see them doing it all arcade, they know we want a good F1 sim.

And I'm guessing they will be doing paid DLC on the consoles, with older seasons. I'm not sure how they'd do it for PC, though.

But if it does turn out to be arcade, we've still got high-quality tracks from the 2010 season to... You know. :wink:

Dirt 2 is fun. Not really a sim but still fun with realistic leaning physics for an arcade title. That gives me hope this F1 game will be a good purchase. Great graphics, fun game-play (hopefully).

I would not hope for a real, hardcore simulation though. Those that are will be disappointed, in my opinion. A full on sim just isn't what will make CM a lot of money to satisfy the shareholders and repay the F1 license fees. If you want a full on f1 simulator I think you'll have to wait for i-racing's F1 car--which should be released this year.

'tis a cool new game!

What I think though is that all this effort will be spoiled, when 2010 is over so is the game as its only based on F1. And seeing as how all the people that still find modern F1 interesting always wants the latest season to race with its just gonna be a quick flash.
What I guess Im trying to say is that while the xbox&ps3 may have their limits I do wish they let the PC-version be somewhat modable.

Take a look at the FIFA games for instance, highly popular the first week then they clog up all the used-gameshelves.

Can you read? It says "A release date for the title has not been announced yet."

As for the game, will be fun no matter if its realistic or not, but id hope, if they are making an effort to laser scan tracks, that they'll try to live up to that in the physics department...

I think the big difference with this CM title though is that these are high down-force F1 cars and naturally very grippy whereas in Grid this was it's undoing; very obvious that all the cars drove on steroids right from the start in an arcade fashion. F1 cars may be more suitable to their code base. However in the light of Dirt 2 and Grid I think we can make some actuate predictions already.

For example in the supplied "hardcore mode" that will be available probably, the simulation part will be still be lost at low speeds I predict, where I feel (NFS:Shift is let down too) the prospect of facing backwards on the start line because of poor throttle control will be too daunting for the console kiddies and the same old noob-physics will be applied that spoils most mainstream sims.

Forgive those slang-terms I made up, I can't think of better words atm. :weird:

Dirt 2 is awesome(although the tarmac physics could be better but that's not what the game is about) so i'm looking forward to this game. Grid and Dirt 1 were horrible but I believe Codemasters is going somewhat in the right direction now.
