F1 2010 – First Patch Changelog

Ever since the release of their F1 2010 title, Codemasters has been hard at work fixing the many bugs and problems that spoiled their otherwise impressive first Formula One title.

Now, a first list of key changes that will be introduced with the upcoming patch has been released, including fixes for most of the problems that have been reported by the community.

Included are fixes for the pit stop & puncture problems, AI issues, performance issues with the PC version and lots of other changes as you can see below:

Bug fixes:

1. Corrupt Save Games – We have identified an over-zealous anti-cheating check that manifested as falsely identified corrupt saves, specifically the ones relating to practice and R&D upgrades, the save-games should now load without issue. However if any of you are experiencing corrupt saves outside of this then please continue to send your PS3 save game files to us (Xbox360 & PC saves aren’t of any use to us) and we can test these against the latest patch to see whether all instances of this issue have now been fixed

2. AI not pitting in dry races where a mandatory pit stop was required (20% or more) – This has been fixed.

3. Player held in pit-stop too long – We’ve improved exit logic so that it isn’t too cautious in holding players during a pit-stop.

4. Puncture frequency reduced – The likelihood of players suffering punctures has been reduced.

5. Pit-stop lock-ups – Fixed several instances which caused the pit crew to lock-up and not be able to service the cars.

6. Automatically updating race strategy – Selecting prime tyres from the tyre menu (over default option) now updates the strategy so that the pit-crew assign options during the pit stop as opposed to re-attaching another set of primes (in a dry race of 20% or more).

7. First lap calculates correctly – The lap time for the first lap of the race now calculates correctly, from the lights going out as opposed to the cars crossing the start line.

Improvements:

1. OSD changes – showing split times rather than gap to leader – We’ve changed how the OSD timing information functions so that split times are now displayed on the OSD, showing race time and race time differences to the other cars – I.e. how far ahead/behind are at a sector boundary.

2. AI affected more by damage received – Damage sustained by an AI’s car will have a greater effect their handling characteristics, effectively slowing damaged AI down more. AI cars that cannot maintain a racing speed will naturally yield to faster cars & come into the pits for repairs. As before, If they receive too much damage, they will retire from the race.

3. AI yielding to other cars when not on flying lap in qualifying – Improved AI behaviour to move off the racing line or out of the player’s way when the player is on a flying lap.

4. Increased wheel support – Increased wheel support and force feedback tweaks (where applicable) for the following wheels; Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 Force Feedback (officially supported), Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience (officially supported), Thrustmaster RGT Force Feedback Pro Clutch (not officially supported but will work), Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S & GT3 RS2 (both officially supported).

5. Wet weather improvements – Rebalanced graphical and handling effect of cars driving on a wet track – the level of wetness has been increased as well as tyre trails being made more prominent.

6. Improved Damage Modelling – Tweaks to the damage system so that more damage is visible / received during lesser impacts.

7. Next lap invalidated time trial logic – In time trial the next lap is no longer invalidated for any offence committed in the 3rd sector. It is calculated per track and is predominantly based on the final corner.

8. AI: Driver Behaviours – Addressed some issues in driver behaviour balancing that were causing occasionally unrealistic finishing positions.

PC-specific improvements:

1. PC ‘replay saving’ and playback – You will be able to save out the files to replay them later or share them with others.

2. DX11 – The F1 2010 patch will enable the game to run on DX11. All of the graphical improvements are configurable from graphical options when in DX11. Specifically, “ultra” settings for ‘shadows’ and ‘postprocess’. (These options require a lot of processing power, and are only recommended for high-end graphics cards.

3. Eyefinity Support – F1 2010 now supports 3 x 1 or 3 x 2 monitor display setups (minimum requirement of 3 x monitors)

4. Optimisations – We have made better use of multi-core processors in general, which will lead to better framerates on higher end machines.

5. Additional Support – Support for SandyBridge processors, which also adds support for currently available ‘modern’ processors, like Core i7, which wasn’t correctly detected previously.

The patch is currently still in the works as the patch will likely include more changes than listed below, tt will take another few weeks until the download is available.

  • Uff

Now this is what I call a patch! :D
Fingers crossed that everything will work fine this time.

  • wchsam92

good, this ive been waiting for! 8-)

  • Shadeshift

Nice! This shows they’re really listening to the community. Hopefully the optimizations will hand over a few more FPS across the board. Overall a GREAT list of fixes, can’t wait!

  • Taylor Ling

Pit stop bug fixed, Split time available, AI damage corrected, processor optimization, dx11 – what else we can ask for?

Great stuff from CM, can’t wait to patch the game!

  • Wesley

This patch sounds good, certainly with the damage which really was lacking compared to DiRT, GRiD and DiRT2. Also the most annoying parts of the game is fixed, that you are held way too long is fixed and also the AI will be less in the way in qualifying, that is just much better. Now the AI is only there in Qualifying to annoy you, after this they will add some atmosphere.

What i havent read about though is the effect of ai colliding on you. For example, when you hit an AI on its side they are likely to spin, this will never happen to you, you are rocksolid on the track, i hope that changes as I would love to be involved in a startcrash where i just get pushed around.

  • Creatorex

Maybe in the end we will have a finished game :P Expecting FFB and other visuals and performance…

  • Wesley

Oh well, forgot how great it is they fix the puncture bug too, I drive like 30 laps every race weekend, and in those weekends i at least have 2 punctures.

  • TheSTIG

Sweeet :-D “Few weeks” more and I can actualy start enjoying this one :)

  • Raphael

I’m preying for CM optimize the game as maximum as they can….this is my main problem, I really want to enjoy the game as should be.

  • zudthespud

good news! Codemasters take a lot of crap from the community but damn do they work hard. Say what you want about them, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed their racing games over the last 3 years, and look forward to whatever they do next, including this patch.

  • opticalust

“5. Additional Support – Support for SandyBridge processors, which also adds support for currently available ‘modern’ processors, like Core i7, which wasn’t correctly detected previously.”

Wow, it shouldn’t have been let out the gate like that. Whatever, I just hope these fixes finally get this dust collector working…

  • Sparky245

“… It will take another few weeks until the download is available.”

    What!?

  • Diromo

Where is punkt about: “no more usage of 2GB replay file” ? rF has one? DIRT has one? GRID has one? Any other game has one file in size of 0,25 of whole Game to use it only for 4s long replays?

You can now guess asnwer for all my questions.

  • kkacper

I beg you to stop crying over it. Basically if I can run this at around 24 fps I’m happy. I’ve everything on low except reflections which are medium or high don’t member.and even as I can have 1600×900 I go for 1280×720 and it adds around 5 fps. I can tell you if you have worse gfx card than my hd 4350 YOU NEED TO BUY NEW PCGFX CARD! and don’t say I also do because I know. I’m probably getting hd 5870 vapor-x or if prices won’t fall as quick then hd 5850 toxic.

  • KamyKaze

I hope i can finally play this game. No more punctures ruining my race day… *DONT_KNOW*

  • F1Racer

oh come on don’t be such a drama queen :) .  You can handle that.  It’s better than months or not at all.

  • joe pineapples

“The patch is currently still in the works as the patch will likely include more changes than listed below, tt will take another few weeks until the download is available.”

Bit of a misquote, which makes it sound like the patch will be a few weeks.  What he actually says is……

“Once the process has finished, we can then release the patch for submission which will take an additional couple of weeks until it is available for release”.

mreaning add another 2 weeks or so (for submission), after patch completion (which they havent given a time scale to).

  • jayblue

Sounds like they have fixed and sorted out a lot of issues. Will be like playing a new game if it all works. Nice to see CM working to give us a proper patch.

  • Raphael

give me some money that I buy it….

man, GRID, DiRT 2 runs very well here….why not F1 2010?

  • Substance242

After first days of correct playing, I am stuck at Monaco which I really want to finish. :)  Virgin, 7 year plan, always far back (especially Spain, that was something else). When I am starting to get blue flags I get nervous – where is he already? OK I will slow down here, where the… is he?? Will I get penalty already? And there I am distracted without front wing. ;)  What me most so far are the punctures (OK I deserved some of them), the way the car behaves when it starts sliding at low speed – at first I thought I must have hit something under my car for it to rotate that way, occasional framerate drops (come on, I chose PS3 to have perfectly stable fps), and I am hoping to be in faster car and get better myself because this simulation of frustration in Virgin is not that funny. :)

Btw, I do not get point 7 about first lap times – of course the timing starts at the start/finish line, how else? So the first car at the end of first lap does not have to be the fastest one.

Anyway, looking forward for the patch and I am keeping my faith.

  • _Sy

I get minimum of 60 fps maxxed out so i’m happy – i have an i7 920 @ 3.8 so this patch should give me even more fps :D :D

  • Desmopatrick

A better GPU-Usage with my GTX 460 OC would be great…50-60% an 35 to 55 frames per second…?!

  • Gne

“7. First lap calculates correctly – The lap time for the first lap of the race now calculates correctly, from the lights going out as opposed to the cars crossing the start line.”

What a shame to have to correct that, did they even test their game or what ?!!

  • TomHolland

I have a sub 500€ budget PC which is almost 2 years old and I run this on maximum everything, 1680×1050 and 2x aa, never had a drop in frames. Full grids, rain, no rain, lightning mods, big pile-ups, everything has been smooth as water.

    E8500 with MSI 9800GT.

  • Doby

Sparky do you have any clue how long it takes to get patches and such through Microsoft (xbox) etc?

Stop complaining man, this is really really super fast service of C-masters.

  • RKipker

    Agreed… !!!

CodeMasters has developed a very fine game, and they want it to get the credit it deserves.  I think this patch will make it the Racing Game of 2010!!!

  • Nestor Martin

    Q9550, 8800GT oc, 6GB DDR2@1066, all maxed, no problem! 8-)

  • RKipker

24FPS is no good!  30-35 is min. without any drops below 30 a must.

I think they found and corrected the issue or they would not have posted such a positive around the FPS performance issues.

    Good Work CM

  • djfishypr

what about the online multiplayer? no private lobbies? i hate playing with people who crash and think they can win a race in the first corner!! CMs gotta fix that! -_______-

  • Coppola

Will this patch be applied to the Ps3 version (and Xbox360) as well?

  • Gne

Human stupidity is not fixable dude ! :D

  • Gne

Let think…. hmmm “pc specific improvement”… hmmmm what does that mean….

  • F1Racer

Nice !  This is a good healthy patch.   Saving replays on PC too, lovely :)
Just one thing please CM….  AI rain-spray in wet session replays ??  Can we have that ?

Looking fwd big time for this one.

(had to repost this as I messed up the first one *DONT_KNOW*

  • Marcel Penzkofer

Don’t know if it’s because of the card. Because my MUCh older HD4890 has exactly the same performance, but 35-55 is very nice for an old card like this one.

  • Marcel Penzkofer

Yes it has to be. First lap starts for everyone when the green light drops, especially as start and finish line on modern racetracks are two completely different ones.

  • Marcel Penzkofer

Codemasters games always worked better on the NVidias in the past, but even my “old” HD4890 Vapor-X handles the game with + 30 FPS. E8650 @ 3,4 Ghz and 4GB RAM are the other components.

  • kkacper

well it’s playable in a way that you can play, yes you can’t be as accurate and quick but well that’s gonna change for me around march :)

  • Mike Cantwell

It is good follow up. I remeber the nightmare with Nascar Sim Racing and EA. Codemasters have done well and this is the First Patch.

  • Mike Chaney

Lobbies can be stup as public or private on consoles.

  • Turkey :D

I hope my MacBook Pro can get a better framerate now. It’s kind of stuck around 30 ish no matter what my graphics settings are.

  • Boomstix

It’s no wonder companies like Codemasters release crap like F1 2010.Sell an unfinished game for full price, announce a patch for sometime in the future then watch people say it’s “really really fast service” from Codies or “at least Codies are showing they care”

  • Dan

I’ll have to check back in to see if this game will be worth my money once the patch is released, I’m sure in it’s current state it’s not.

  • SI GT XLR TURBO

    Good stuff!
Next we want Ross Brawn voice acting to replace the engineer and Martin Brundle commenting the replay of pole position laps.

  • AeroMechanical

Definitely fixes the gamebreakers. If they can manage a 10-15% performance improvement on my system, I’d be well satisfied with that.  That is asking for a bit though.  Seems to me that nVidia ought to be releasing some specially optimized drivers at some point–this can occasionally result in huge performance increases (I’ve seen 30% plus in the past).  Again, anything significant here is a longshot… and they’d usually be out by now if there were going to be some.

As for the replays, I would like the option in game of disabling them entirely (because I have to do this through trickery anyways to avoid stuttering… or better yet fix the stuttering, which there is no mention of).  If they can’t offer a pure TV cam option of at least your car, I’m not terribly interested anyways.  And, of course, I do hope that each one is not 2 gigabytes.  That’s a real facepalm right there.

So, anyways, good to get this news.  Shows that work is being done beyond just kludgy fixes of the more mind-numbing problems.

I’ve put F1 2010 aside for now, mostly because I’m too busy, but partially because there are some things that need sorting before I have a real go at a career.  If they stick with it, which I wouldn’t say is entirely unlikely, and follow this up with a couple more patches, it could easily go from a B- to an A in my book.  This patch, if it delvers, will bring it up to a solid B, I’d say.

  • No1uKnow

    Nice list of changes there.

To people complaining about performance issues, perhaps read the system requirements before purchasing.

    I’m running: Win XP Pro SP2 / E8400 / 2GB RAM / 1GB Gigabyte GTX460 @ 1680×1050 full graphics.

    Game runs smooth as silk.

Codemasters have done a great job on this game, and to get a patch out this fast with so many upgrades/improvements is excellent and should be commended.

TAKE NOTE EA…. It’s OK to patch your games!

  • SENNAMARQUE

One bug I want fixed – qualifying on prime tyres with the fastest lap comming on prime tyres, but computer starts you on options, what gives? I thought you start on the tyre you set your fastest lap on? Has anybody else had this or is it just my game?

  • Raymond

This only applies when you make it to Q3. If you then select primes and set your fastest lap on it, you have to start on primes. If you’re out in Q1 or Q2, then you are free to select either compound for the race.

  • Markuz

Hey, can you do a fraps on that? What’s your minimum and max framerate? We have very similar machines but different OS (Vista x64) but the game could only run an average of 32 FPS on races for me.

And yeah, I hate EA. They never bothered spending money to let SMS fix NFS Shift after the second patch. That game still has collision stutter bugs and broken brake balance controls. If it wasn’t for mods it’s really bad.

  • Markuz

Yeah, imagine “sharing” a 2GB replay file that only has 3 laps on it, LOL.

  • Jonesracing82

it’s awesome they are listening to the issues people are having and as u say, seem very committed to fixing them! this patch will make a great game even better!

  • AeroMechanical

Yeah… a 1080p video of it would be smaller. =-X

  • Markuz

Hey Marcel, I think that video card should still be able to do better. Check your utilizations with GPU-Z and Task Manager (or other CPU utilization utility). You might be surprised that you still have a lot in reserve. On the Codies’ forums I’ve seen lots posts with low-mainstream to uber gaming rigs that get the same 60% GPU utilization.

Even people with very fast quads whose CPU utilization is almost nil get that “60% GPU cap” so the game shouldn’t really be CPU-bottlenecked. It’s also the same case people with Sandy Bridge CPUs though they’re getting “extra” treatment in the patch.

    I’m hopeful for the patch.

  • Markuz

Blame Bernie E. or his underlings. Grid and Dirt 2 weren’t released perfect but not in a state as horrible as F1 2010. Honestly I’m also very disappointed because I was so excited for this game it’s all I talked about with my wife. When I got it I spent more time configuring and “beta testing” than playing it. I got tired doing that, took off my wheel to keep me away from the game and decided to wait for this patch.

  • Markuz

Have you done a fraps on that? I’m no FPS nut but for racing I really need an average of 50+ fps. This game on LOW can only do 35 FPS average. Oh, nevermind. You have a quad CPU.

    *E8400@3.6GHz, GTX 470, 4GB DDR800, Vista x64*

  • Markuz

An even better “utility” would be something that converts the replays into videos, a’la rFactor. Fraps doesn’t cut it on my dual core E8400 if I want a 30fps video. That’s just wishful thinking though. If they got all of those listed items fixed I wouldn’t be browsing this site anymore because I’ll be busy playing the game.  8-)

  • Philip Oakley

@Coppola I believe it will be available for PS3 and 360; the PC Specific Improvements are the last 5, surprisingly listed under ‘PC Specific Improvements’.

  • Thomas Finch

Awesome job, Codies. Do your best. I can wait…..

  • F1Racer

Boomstix: You really should get some more knowledge about how games companies sometimes work (or have to work) before being so judgemental.

  • Substance242

OK, let’s just say that time of first lap is silly and not important however measured it is. :)  In case of green light – finish line, the cars at the back have a disadvantage. In case of start/finish line: cars at the back have advantage of higher speed at the moment of crossing start line, plus as you said the lines are often different.

  • Markuz

Pray that those few weeks isn’t 4 weeks because that’s already a month, LOL. But I’m ok with them taking time to perfect this thing the way it should be as long as it gets fixed…

… but not with F1 2011 because that’s an expensive patch if that’s the case…

  • Markuz

I’m worried that it was stated that they “reduced the frequency” instead of doing some logic fixes. Doing that, punctures just 10 meters after the pit exit with fresh tires is still statistically possible.

The news update still made me very happy though. With those fixes I can finally treat it as a game and not a beta testing project.

  • Markuz

I can ask for a simracing cockpit for free coupon along with my purchase, LOL!

  • Boomstix

I have a right to be judgemental mate. The game I paid for has very little in common with what I was promised in all the articles and vids codemasters put out before release. It’s really not my problem how game companies work.

  • mf

Thanks to Codemasters for fixing the bugs. One thing is sure, the patch will be out before Gran Turismo 5!! >:o

  • samuelkorthof

U should change ur OS. This will get you another preformance boost and will make you run the game with DX11 shaders. Makes alot of difference

  • F1Racer

I’m sure there are many who would disagree that the game has little in common with what was promised. Although you said ‘I was promised’ as if they personally promised you.  You haven’t stated anything specific though.
It may not be your problem how game companies work, but you seem to think its ok to judge them based on what you think you know.

  • F1Racer

The sun will go out before Gran Turismo 5.

  • m0nty

When do you hear Ross Brawn on team radio though? The engineers are responsible for airwave transmission.

  • m0nty

Why are console owners neglected when it comes to replay saves?

  • Boomstix

There’s no doubt there are many who don’t agree with me and that’s fine-people are entitled to think what they want.As for me saying “I was promised”…who were all those promotional vids and articles for if they weren’t for me as someone who they wanted to purchase their product?

And if you want me to be specific, well just look at the what the patch has to fix!

Don’t get me wrong though,I realise it’s not an easy thing to release a perfect game and I don’t expect them to.The things that really got to me were things like faked qualy times..”we couldn’t get the AI to go round at 3000kph in accelerated time”wait..what?You couldn’t  do what many other racing games have done for years?
I just feel let down, not because it isn’t perfect but because I think the game was released before it was finished.

  • Taylor Ling

DX 11 in F12010 seems to be on it’s way. Below is changelog of latest GeForce driver.

    New in Release 260.99
Increases performance vs. v260.89 drivers in the following PC games: Civilization V (SLI), Fallout 3, Final Fantasy XIV and F1 2010 (DX11).

  • Rome

and pc’s u can set up a private lobbu aswell, as the guy above havent figured out yet give him some time

  • tato_101

Hope this patch shows a wet car when the rain is there. Cause everything gets wet but the car itself!! And low frame rates in some circuits, like the first corner in Spa…

  • gniewko

do these both things have anything in common?
