F1 1993 by F1-S-R – Video Trailer

Posted 2 weeks, 3 days ago in

F1-S-R is not just working on the 1985 and 1991 Formula One seasons for rFactor, the team will also bring the 1993 F1 season to the simulation.

Below is a new video trailer, showing some footage of the season’s cars. 1993 was the final season to allow driver aids such as active suspension and anti-lock brakes, the season was dominated by Alain Prost and the Williams team, clinching both the driver and manufacturers title.

I love this era of F1 racing. A damn sight better than what is out there today.

Many thank’s to the F1-S-R group that will make this mod happen.

You forgot to mention that they are also working on 1999 season.

It’s nice to see old F1 cars are built for rFactor. And it’s even nicer to see a group which works on several F1 mods at the same time!

Hmmm I recognise that intro music. Isn’t that something you hear at the beginning of a load of movies ?

Anyway.. nice to have another retro F1 year. Fans of this era will be spoilt for choice soon.

Ironically the more overtly cinematic these trailers get, the more cynical I get.

It is a bit of a shame how tarted up and fanciful these trailers are, I always come away dissapointed at the lack of actual footage.

As nice as these vids are to see, I have to agree. I’d rather see it for what it is. I’ve never released a gameplay video with any video effects on them. Music and titles ok, but beyond that I like engine sounds and pure wysiwyg gameplay.

    Well then how’s this..

I’m so happy I don’t have to be the first to criticise another video effort this time! I’m glad others can openly see how preconscious these unnecessarily over-edited trailers are.

The opening jingle is ripped from none other than United Artists Picture Inc.
I too thought this was a great idea when I started out video editing to give my productions a nice front-end, but I grew out of it the first time I saw what I’d done. I suggest the author grows up too, in the nicest of ways I mean that.

Actually I do take a bit of offence. But hey I can take it.. Just wish you guys would not critise. I did not ask for this promo to be aired here.. Not sure who has.. So don;t blame me. All my efforts are for personal use. Would love to see some of you work though carbonfibre. Thanks for watching guys..

@ f1lover: nice little teaser, looking forward to the mod.

Personally, I easily grow tired on videos with 5+ minutes of pure gameplay, cockpit view driving around a track. That can be a bit boring to watch and I feel like it gives it all away. What you do here is quite cool, having a couple seconds of gameplay and sounds mixed with simple black frames. It teases and makes me wonder even more how the mod will drive. However, I do have to agree, the intro jingle was a bit too much…

    Yeah thats it ! :)

I knew I’d heard that before somewhere.

    Blah Blah Blah…
Alot of talk about the video…
Whats the essential part here? The video or the mod?
Great video and I am looking forward to the mod!

i like it, not soo much a fan of the arms though, rfactor doesnt animate arms very well.

Thanks for your dedication F1lover. Maybe the arms can be an option? Anyway, you do what you think is best…follow your heart!

i’ve to agree this was the last year of real F-1 as 1994 was all about Senna’s death and 1995 onwards we had Damon Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen, Alonso, Raikonnen, Hamilton and Button as world champs :weird: It can’t get any worse in F1 history! I almost forgot to mention the only one worth mentioning i.e. Schumi!

  16. F1Racer

Well someone had to be world champion in those years. Still came down to whoever got the most points.

There is no way I subscribe to this theory that 1993 was the last real year of F1.
Thats crazy. F1 is a progressive and developing animal. Is it because F1 got safer and therefore somehow became more boring ? What about the 50’s to the 70’s then ? People were dying all over the place. Was that better ?

I don’t see how those drivers you mention are any less deserving than those that came before them. The drivers don’t make the rules.

I would love to see a 1993 mod, but ….isn’t it wise to aim for the 1991 mod first?
That one has been in development for a long time, im afraid dividing efforts will not benefit anything.
    Just my point.

There is also still a 85 mod to finish.

    So you mean…

Jim Clark x J Button = Same :weird:
Ayrton Senna x K Raikonnen = Same :shame:
Alan Prost x F Alonso = Same
Nelson Piquet x D Hill = Same
Niki Lauda x Jacques Villeneuve = Same :ooo:
Gillie Villeneuve x M Häkkinen = Same
Jackie Stewart x L Hamilton = Same
    Plus+
    Jack Brabham
    Juan Manuel Fangio
    Emerson Fittipaldi

Guess we watch F-1 with VERY different views and expectations! Those were champs who won titles by their natural gifted abilities against other amazing drivers not by the lack of real drivers! Also if you didn’t watch 50s 60s 70s 80s early 90s races your view is acceptable imho! But I rather watch boring races with little skill drivers than watch amazing races skilled drivers but with fatal accidents!

Congratulations for completely misunderstanding and twisting my meaning.
The only expectation I have when watching an F1 race is excitement and maybe some hard wheel to wheel racing. Doesn’t always happen these days, but the expectation is still there.

What I meant by deserving is that whoever ends the season with the most points, takes the title. Whoever does that is no less deserving of the accolade of world champion than anyone else who came before them.
Today drivers cannot go back in time and drive in the 80’s or 90’s and can only compete in the environment that is given to them.
If F1 is more boring today then thats not the drivers fault. The only debatable factor in my view is how hard a driver had to work to earn his championship.
Did Button deserve his title this season any less than Senna did in 1988 ?
I don’t think so. For sure Senna arguably had a more competitive field but is that Buttons fault ?

Oh and FYI, all drivers have won on their natural ability to drive. Just wanting to dispel that urban myth that only the guys from the past had the natural talent. It was a whole different time back then and comparisons between then and today is impossible.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who continue to bitch about something that is free. And argue over trival stuff. :weird:

    You’re taking it very well F1L :)

Lack of homework, Felipe: “Gillie Villeneuve x M Häkkinen = Same ”
GillES was never world champion… Sadly.

But as F1Racer says, it’s not possible to compare drivers from different eras. It can’t be done rightfully. Hakkinen was a great, great F1 driver.
