    Love any historic F1 mod.

I hope they’ll be an Evo release.

    ok first off…

*nitpick mode on* Not a fan of the t-cam view (like to watch from there in replays a lot), but I guess with the carshapes of 85 its not easy to place them like the more comtemporary cars.

Shame that all the cars have the same engine sounds too. Do they also all share the same physics in this mod ?

In the updates you can choose between race and quali engines. What do the AI have ? Do they pick quali engines for quali and race engines for race ? What do they have for test sessions ? Just curious.
    *nitpick mode off*

OK This, for me, is the best mod so far of 2010 !
Its amazing. When I went to the test session at the Monza’88 track I spent the first 5 mins just watching the AI go around from TV mode. The cars looked spectacular and sounded great. Then I went on-board with an AI and just as I did that, a hulking great McLaren shot past before negotiating the first chicane. Woah ! The roar as it shot past was really cool. It passed by so close and took no prisoners either. AI seem very well behaved in this mod.

So, driving Senna’s Lotus, I left the pits.
Oh boy was I cautious on the outlap. Getting used to the turbo boost and no traction control was a little scary. I was so tentative on that throttle. I finally got rount and started the hot lap. Trying to remember to keep the revs up as I’m braking for the corners so the boost stays on. Meh, ok so I spun a few times when I squeezed the ‘go’ pedal. :)
Car was nice and behaved over the kerbs, steady under braking and sure-footed mid-corner. I had AI on my tail and they were quicker than me on the exit of the corners so I let them by. I only had to move over a little and they ‘saw’ the gap and shot through. Very nice.
So far Ive turned just under 20 laps and I’m a whopping 1.8s off the pace still, but thats enough for me to judge (although Monza is an easy circuit to drive on  ). Apart from the nitpicking above, this is imo close if not equal to the popular ’79 mod.

Guys, amazing work. This mod friggin’ rocks ! Thank you.

best mod since Endurance Series although many many mods lately are all awesome!

“The mod includes almost the full field of the 1985 season, only the Alfa Romeo 184T & the Renault RE60 have not been included.”

Not 2 models not included but 3 – Osella FA1F, missing and here are all the 1985 car models, link – http://www.statsf1.com/en/1985/modeles.aspx

Great mod by Valiante and Markus, glad that F1-S-R will now take over as both the original mod authors will not have time to dedicate to the mod as said before in their forum.

I love the new addition of the cars of RAM and Spirit as they weren’t included in their public final beta 1.3K edition. Somehow I noticed that the sounds in this v1.0 release the car sounds ain’t the same as beta 1.3K (as then they had individual unique car sound for each car whereas now they’re same car sounds for all cars)

Thanks again for this great mod as this was how Formula 1 used to be. The cars were really challenging to drive with great sense of immersion and real hard to tame compared to what the current Formula 1 season is all about, complete joke for now.

    Cheers.

  • Juju

    I love historic formula.
Someone should make F1Mod of the season in 1977.

  • intelpower

    @ sennannes

I think you are nitpicking way too much

Even the GP79 have some old models missing like the Alfa Rmeo 177

Give they guys a brake at least they got every team with the most representative car ingame. The osella you can forget it’s hard enough already to find any info and pictures on the current cars

  • sennannes

Yea. I am very thankful of this great mod though. Basically I wouldn’t mind with the missing 3 models as all teams have been covered. It would be great to have a 1984 mod first as that marks a remarkable year to me, tsk tsk. Anyway, the default sounds are so far so good until further possible individual updates release, if there is. Great physics and real fun to drive these beasts. A big hug to the modding team! :sd:

  • driving god

Wow, this is a surprise. I had no idea about this mod, so seeing ”
    F1 1985 1.0 – Released” with positive comments was a shock.

I’ve hit my download limit, so I won’t be able to download it for 5 days, though. :sad2:

One word….FANTASTIC….best mod after GP79. To hard to drive but thats just the way it is. After a couple of laps you start to get the hang of it. Question to the guys who have race against AI. What settings are u using aspecialy the agression. Tnx for reply.

AI Strength at 80% just like the guys recommended in the readme as for agression can’t remember but as long as they don’t run over you it’s fine :sd:

Great mod! i love these cars and the mod feels pretty much solid and finished

    felipe:
AI Strength at 80% just like the guys recommended in the readme

Oops. I must read readme’s more often ! I’ve been running higher than that and was wondering why despite not getting any brilliant laps in, I was still 1.8s off the pace. Did get 5th quickest time in testing though :) Will try 80% as recommended and see if Im more competitive.
Using rFVCRMerge, I made a replay of all the fields fastest laps in a one lap replay. I found out that at Monza88 I was losing all my laptime braking into the first chicane. I was braking way too early compared to the AI and losing over 1s. 2nd and 3rd sectors I was actually on the pace.
So today I’m gonna increase brake pressure and add a bit more downforce cos my speed in a straight line in too fast compared to the AI and I think Im losing my time in the turns.
Lets see if I can improve my time compared to yesterday.

It is tricky to drive but man its great. I love that if the rear end starts to get away and you’re pretty quick enough, you can catch it. If you’re not, or the car gets away too much, you’re a passenger and as usual end up spinning and facing the wrong way.

Whats with the pit stop ? I think I messed mine up. I came in, new tyres, no fuel (13s !!?) I dunno why no fuel, but I didnt realise and went back out on track and ran out on my hotlap, hehe. Parked on the grass and sat there watching the AI blast by. Can you tell I’m into this one ? :)

I bet you are the same guy with username jasonycy at rfactorcentral complaining about the same things and requesting the same things just give it a break now will you  now it’s time to enjoy the fine wine let’s talk about some other great wines some other time :sd:

…refuelling isn’t allowed in the mod. Just like in the real 1985 season :)

Aha, of course ! Duh! :) Thanks, I`ll remember to actually go back to the setup screen during a test session now instead of just stopping at the pit box and hoping for 5-6 laps more of the motion lotion.
So far I’m sticking with Monza88 while I get to trips with these monsters. Then Im off to Silverstone88 and Spa88 which should be fun (oh the fun of the bus stop chicane in this thing, I see loadsa spins heading my way).

  • raisen1964

The correct Silverstone layout for 85 is the same as GP1979′s with the Woodcote chicane. Driving the Toleman on max boost but restricted revs I managed to get down to 1:10.1 on my first proper run. Jeez they’re quick on the straights. The turns, after some set up work should be ok, but the bumpier tracks are still going to be a scary combo thanks to the spiky power delivery. Looking back video of the ’85 season, this mod looks about right subjectively.

Sounds – Their seems to be some odd artifacts buried in some of the sounds, but they certainly serve their purpose. For further development by the guys at F1SR – the Tyrrell 012 will need a nice DFY sound, the V6 turbo’s seem to sound more or less there but with the Alfa and BMW, Zakspeed and Hart, getting hold of source material to base the sounds upon might be difficult.

Criticism – Unless I’ve messed up, the Tyrrell 012 cockpit has a boost gauge, a simple mistake.

Conclusion – Great to see this effort bear fruit and the thanks to all involved for their generosity and time. We now get to enjoy a classic F1 era thanks to you guys hard work. A round of applause for the team please folks……

  • CrippleHorse

F1Racer: Do they also all share the same physics in this mod ?

From what I’ve seen, chassis/suspension/aero is the same in Lotus and McLaren, didn’t compare every single car but after driving a few, I find it safe to assume that this applies to all. Only torque curves seem to vary from car to car, so that they do not do identical times, I guess. Of course that is far from “Hystorical edition, all cars has it’s own physics” as stated, but by now, nobody who downloads an f1 mod should still expect any level of realism, not even the little that is possible to attain. Hell, we know at least a few things about these cars, at least about how they rated against each other in terms of turbo performance, fuel consumption etc. So the team could have gone a long way beyond this even by sensible guesswork. Before anyone calls me overly negative, I have to point out that maybe it’s just me, but I would rather have convincing physics and a box instead of a model, than sleek graphics to take screenshots and a Tag McLaren that drives and feels exactly as a Toleman. But most F1 mods are about the screnshots.

On to driving the thing, tyres are relatively good, they don’t prevent you completely from catching a sudden spin if you’re used to stabbing opposite locks, or if you try a lot of years to imitate Ayrton’s Morse-code-telegraph-like throttle control. Even some drifts may be possible, although feedback doesn’t want to help you much (I use realfeel and have found that mods coming without recommended values tend to do that). Spins due to turbo boost extravaganza are controllable by changing to 2nd/3rd just when it kicks in or due to but I guess it can still be frustrating at Monaco… at Silverstone quick laps were piece of cake, much easier than Carrera’s F1 1988, maybe due to the tires, also because this one forgives anything when braking and changing down with low revs. It’s really impossible to make a cock-up however wrong you enter a corner and change in revs that don’t match at all, while with 1988 you think you’ve done everything correctly, heel & toe and the whole 9 yeards and it still spins when you get to low speeds (probably due to terribly wrong tyre curves). Overall, indeed a handful to put the power down in slow circuits, but quite arcady in every other situation, is my view.

  • Sensekhmet

F1Racer:Trying to remember to keep the revs up as I’m braking for the corners so the boost stays on.

I’m confused. There’s no working separate power adder (like a turbo) in gmotor, so why the fancy technique (left foot braking I assume?)?

  • dknine

    nice mod guys.

the only thing i would like to mention is that the revs go up very quickly when you press the clutch.
i am using the gated shifter with the gated shifter upgrade, but when i apply blip on downshifts, even very little, the revs spike to the max, i would like to see this abit less.

with the williams i noticed that the rev counter is not in sync, i use 11000 in the rf hud, but my incar rev counter shows like 13000.

but like i said, a nice mod for sure, hopefully some fixes will come to what i mentioned

  • raisen1964

The Brabham at least seemed to have different handling in a brief run, and the nastiest power and torque curve I’ve seen in rF.
Regarding Cripplehorses reference to short shifting – Andy Wallace tested a 1986 Toleman with the same spec engine as the 1985 Brabham, and that is exactly how he was advised by the team to drive. The test in question was held at Donington late in ’86 after the end of the season and written up for Autosport magazine toward the end of ’86 or early ’87.

    What a beauty

Does anyone has a realfeel setting which works with those rockets?

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TomHolland93 TomHolland

Wow, what a great mod! Just had a killer session at Monza ’88 with the Renault. Throwing these cars over those cerbs is serious fun. Always felt that I had total control of the car, something that I don’t often feel with F1 mods.

Only thing I can note is the texture quality of the rubber. The Michelin logo is pretty rough. And somehow I can’t get a good start with these monsters. Any tips on how to get away without wheelspinning till late 2nd gear?

Been gone from simming quite a while, but this started the addiction again I’m affraid! :sd:

  • JGoenR

Thanks for the mod! Nice work on the models, but sounds could be better.

ah ok, what I should have said was, keeping the revs up. I wanted to keep the revs high in the corners to minimise the boost when I accelerated out.
    Yeah left foot braking.

Thanks for the physics info CrippleHorse and to raisen1964 for the Silverstone tip. I`ll use that one.

Just had a blast at Spa. AI on 80% is too slow for me. I seem to be ok with 90-95% depending on track. Took the fastest time in Spa after some setup work and an handful of laps. Eau Rouge looks great in the replay on the 88 track.
Thing is I took the fastest time by 0.8 and Im still yet to turn the revs up or apply any boost. So I reckon I can crank that AI up for this track to a level where I`d get swamped at Monza.

EDIT: Got a 1.09.9 at Silverstone ’79 in the Toleman. I notice the AI ignore the chicane which is a pity.

  • CHRISSQUIRE

WOW!!! These cars are monsters! Awesome, awesome mod. So much fun to drive, or should I say, attempt to drive. This is an incredible piece of work, congratulations!  :sd: :sd: :sd:

  • Joao Barbosa

    Great work. Thanks!

  • http://simracing.in.ua Pandamasque

I was really happy to download this mod… until I heard that all the cars sound a). identical b) awful

It completely ruined the mod for me. The graphics look good, I can’t say anything about the physics because I just can’t drive with that cacophony.

  • GTFAN45

Didn’t the beta version have differnt sounds for each car? Why would the final version have the same sounds? It’s a really great mod, but all the cars sounding the same does kind of kill it for me…….

  • raisen1964

@F1Racer….. If they are apparently ignoring the chicane then you might not have the most current version of the GP79 Silverstone track, they are now up to version 2.5 if I recall. They certainly seem to be making the attempt on my installation, sometimes getting it wrong on the Woodcote chicane kerb, but they are making the attempt.
Brabham physics are definitely different to the McLaren and the Lotus too. Understeers like a pig, but as I remember from Autosport in period, the Pirelli front tyres always took an age to reach working temperature in normal conditions, by when the rears would be shot (Brabham did win a single race in ’85 and the team reckoned that the weather at Paul Ricard that weekend was what made the difference – hot and dry, the Pirelli wet that year was considered a disaster). It may just be the tyres……

  • conehead_bob

Great mod! I get a real sense of the “peaky” nature of this era of F1 car. I find myself doing a lot of “point and squirt” and short shifting.

    Love it!

  • izzibram

Is there a Forum from this Mod ? Sharing some info and setups would be nice.
Playing with tyres, turbo pressure, engine temp. and fuel is great in this mod.
