DTM 2008-2010 1.0 – Released

Team LMT has released their DTM 2008-2010 mod for rFactor, adding three seasons of German Touring Car racing to the simulation.

The mod includes all cars and drivers of the past three DTM seasons, letting racers choose between V8-powered touring cars made by Audi and Mercedes in different configurations and over 40 different liveries.

Unlike the team’s first public mod, the Ferrari F60, this one does not come with all drivings aids disabled in the physics, making the mod accessible to drivers of all skill levels. Just like the real DTM cars, the virtual versions are very likely to suffer damage upon contact, adding another challenge to the mod.

Launched in 2000, the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters is Germany’s most popular touring car series. Despite its name, the cars raced in the series are hardly touring cars but V8-powered silhouette racers that only bare a slight resemblance to their road-going counterparts. The series features some well known drivers, including Tom Kristensen, Ralf Schumacher, David Coulthard & Mathias Ekström.

    car handling not sure yet until i configure wheel correctly.

    Modelling is superb and inclusion of extra skin is good from each round. Downside is cockpit camera is too low.

    Sounds are good, but they loop badly and don’t have continous engine tone but have a blip then start the sound again.

    Handling is good but sometimes rears lock up oddly in lower gears and max brake pressure is 90%.. Also very difficult to drive with lower than 3/4 wing.

    The need for 3 rfm’s is wrong. You should look how Enduracers do it. 1 RFM, and you should use vehicle filters to select between each championship cars but it also lets you combine every car if you want. :idea:

    Just to add another thing, headlights are not fully functioning yet. You have headlight and brakelight glow, but no headlights on floor as you have missed out this line

    Very nice. Cockpit looks great. The car feels nice (much better than 2007).

    Sounds: the engine does not keep the same tone, but rather goes up and down (cockpit view). Not a big deal anyway.

    However, why o why do Mod teams keep turning the f… volume UP??? Got d…! If I want the engine to leave me deaf, I will turn it up myself! Each time I fire up this, or F1 91, or F1 93, I have to adjust the spotter, and turn the volume down… It is SO annoying… just keep them at the volume of the original sounds guys, please!!!

    I’m sorry if this sounds like an insult, it’s not meant to be. Are there any medics in here to verify this is actually a fact? Sounds are made by a deaf person. A collection of bad samples, badly cut made to loop and mix in a bad way.

    Models are great. Cockpit looks also very nice. Handeling is good. But no realfeel support. Not a biggie for me because i dont use it. Sounds are very loud and only have one tone?
    But overall quite good. Needs a patch to make it very good.

    Really enjoyed the mod so far, the handling feels spot on, graphics strong and the sounds seemed fairly good to me.

    I’d love to think this might be the first of many LMT publicly released mods.

    As a temporary fix I just disabled those lines (in the .gen files) that were leading to the error.

    I was so looking forward to a DTM game that handled as the GTR mods are not great.

    The cars feel like they have no weight to them, sort of like they are floating. and the rear steping out at slow corners as previosly mentioned. They need to handle more like a light GT car to acheive the genuine effect. Example, MMM V8 and super GT are awesome in the handiling catorgorie, but not that authentic. if you could replicate that sort of handeling, I would say Mission acomplished.

    What is up with the sound. Sounds nothing like a DTM car. I has no depth, nothing at idol. DTM is more a deep high rev than an F1 sound.

    Other than that, its very good, but the physis and sound are way of.

    Physics are the most important aspect on rFactor, and also the most complicated work to do. To many parameters to adjust (tyres, suspension, aerodinamics inertias…etc, etc)

    I don’t understand why a wiki site or forum to develop physics for rF in common was never be created. It’s still a dark world for most of moders.

    The problem with your comment is that saying a DTM car should handle like a GT car is B U L L S H I T. DTM cars have much more downforce which makes the handling of the cars quite different.

    I think interior sounds is good(even realistic, maybe). The external sounds are crazy and like low bitrate mp3…

    But this is just wrong. As the wikipedia page on DTM states:

    ‘Instead of the road car bodies, unrelated purpose-built chassis are used, which are closer to prototype racing. Many drivers have in fact described the handling of the cars as closer to single seater racing cars than road cars. ‘

    To me the handling seems pretty damn accurate.

    It’s a good mod for screenies but that’s about it, downloaded, installed , test runs, deleted, my pc is quite old and had to have graphic settings really low, took away all the fun of DTM.I will stick with the 07 version.

    I think this is way better than the 2007 version, it looks brilliant, handles well too. What I like is that the lap times are similar to those in real life. The cars are obviously pretty close to real life, unlike the DTM2007 mod where you couldn’t hit 160mph.

    I don`t want to offend anyone but too much “best, great, brilliant” etc. Yes, DTM`08-10 by Team LMT is good. It`s true. But not “best, great, brilliant…”…
    I think all these epithets could be to adress to DTM2008 by Erale if it was released… in my humble opinion…

    As you can see, the CarType should be Mercedes and the car class should be DTM. Also it says he is in position 14 but Class Position 9 and this is also wrong, as DTM is all 1 class so he should have a class position of 14.

    Hey S.Moss, thanks for your efforts for now. The issue concerning the lights is due to real DTM cars dont show any real lights, just a kind of “decoration”light. Last year we’ve been spectators for about 10 times at a DTM’s race, I have even visited 2 races in 2009. Being there, you could see quite good DTM cars dont show real lights actually, thats the reason why we’ve removed the light cone. It’s actually a feature, no bug :p According to the AI: We’re just a small league owning only a small modding team. This has been the first time we’ve released three mods for the public, almost the same ones as we’d used them. It’s a modification for our league, we didnt spend any time programming AI or stuff, because of just using the mod for online-races. If it was a mod for simulations, the employee’s cars should have different physics, as well as Audi and Mercedes. And that’s not the case. We’ll release a capacious update later on, maybe even small updates including new skins in between times..
    Let’s see what’ll go on in the real DTM in 2010. Maybe we could include something according to the AI.

    Man, this MOD is addictive. I really like the handling. It is hard, but seems accurate enough.

    I just wish someone will release an update for the sounds: on top, making them more quiet. It’s just soo loud! And the external sounds too! I can hear better from inside my own cockpit the engine from the guy behind me, than my own! And then, making the internal more “still”, without so much up and down.

    With a sound update, this thing will be amazing. It has “MOTY Challenger” written all over it.

    I would think I have more of an idea than you and whoever else. Maybe you did not understand me. The cars currently handle like nothing. A DTM car has weight like a GT car. Not as much, but still 1050 something Kg’s. That’s not what the cars feel like is what I’m saying. If they modified the aero and braking physics of a SUPER GT car (As the mod exists), they would be closer than now. It’s easier to do than drive and collect data from a reel DTM car. They are not F1 or GP2 cars. Some 350 Kg’s heavier. They have the same setbacks of open wheelers, and aero feel. They are still much heavier.

    Having the rear randomly step out and the car pivot from just in front of the rear wheels is less accurate.

    mod 2010 not have LOD´s (different level of details)??? – let a full field of cars bounce around the 1st corner and assist the slideshow – even on a well powered system ..,,,, very disappointing :weird: :sad2:

    sound i dont like so much, but i read their might be an sound update in time.
    the handling felt abit odd for me, i missed the feeling of mass with the cars.

    i hope realfeel will be supported in the future.
    the first car i tried was the 2008 mercedes with paul di resta, but the interior tag inside the cockpit had an audi tag with a different driver, so that is a small error. :wink:

    thanks for regards, but even Brasilians have well powered systems (2 or 4 core cpus) and dont use DX7/8 any longer, due to ATI 4800 a.o. :sd:

    what I recognized is a heavy loss of frames when cars were damaged in a full grid. I started a grid of 16 cars (all visible) with 80 fps (limited) all graphic options in FULL, 4x Anisotrofic, Shawdos High … so this can be called a well powered system, u know.

    Cutting off some flaps and mirrors in the first corner, framerate drops dramatically to the half or even worse (have seen 8 or 14 fps). Take this as a hint to investigate, because it is important for league racing.

    Hope that leaguedrivers will handle the cars with more care … :lol:
    by the way the 3D-Modells/Cockpits are awesome, congrats to all modders (esp. –dk- for having pacience and skills to do all that work mentioned in credits)

    The driving view is ridiculous, you can’t see the corners unless you go +100 seat height lol.

    Looks great, (apart from the carbon fibre texture on the back of the A4), feels great and should be a lot of fun. Sounds need a bit of work. Idling from 3rd person there is no sound.

    Also, this is probably a stupid question, but where is the 2010 cars?

    For the first time since the championship’s re-launch in 2000, there are no Mercedes-Benz cars of the current year; however, the AMG Mercedes C-Class cars of the two previous years using again(C-classe`08-09). The reason for this are the new technical rules which have “frozen” the development of the DTM cars step by step since August 2009. It`s done for new reglament(co-SGT) which will start in 2011…
    Because, there are new skins of 2010 in mod, only.

    Provided your graphics card is newer than the nVidia 5000 generation, which is old, or isn’t integrated, running DX9 shaders shouldn’t be a problem.

    And it’s a free mod done in the team’s free time. They can have whatever attitude they want :) Simbin and Codies haven’t supported DX7/8 shaders for over three years.

    I like the mod from a graphics / modding aspect but the physics definitely need work. When change dampers, springs etc… they don’t produce expected effects. Compared to e.g. the Peugeot 207 mod which has excellent physics, this mod really doesn’t produce the expected results.

    So good 1.0 to start from IMHO but for 2.0 I suggest LMT to get in touch with good & experienced physics developers.

    Hopefully someone here can answer a few questions. I have posted in a few forums but it seems no one wants to respond.

    Anyway, whenever I pick a car and try to just do a testing, I have to hit enter a bunch of times (3 sometimes 4) before it will load into the game. Nothing is affected until my friend and I try to drive together. When he hosts a server, I cannot see his car. When I host a server, he cannot see mine. We also cannot see random AI cars. We are able to see a bunch of each but then others just show up as temp cars.

    We have both reinstalled the mod completely to no avail. We would really like to use these cars in a small league, but at this point we cannot.

    Does anyone know how to contact the mod makers about making a league-friendly version of their mod?

    Currently, the results file generates different positions based on car class. So for example, you can have more than one first place finisher because Audi’s are classed differently from Mercedes Benz, then each model’s year is classed differently too. So you can have up to 4 first place finishers (Audi 08, Audi 09, MB 08, MB 09).

    Any plans of releasing templates? 3d max scenes?

    Didn’t test it with a wheel so far (waiting my G27 to be delivered) but I liked I a saw!
