Driving TMG’s Le Mans Prototype Simulator

Back in January, I posted a first video of Toyota Motorsport’s high-tech simulator that is used to train drivers for their sports car racing programme alongside other usages.

Now, Toyota has released new material on their simulator as their press staff recently got to try the expensive equipment to get an idea what driving the company’s TS030 Le Mans Prototype feels like.

Despite still using a former F1 car monocoque, the simulator simulates the company’s hybrid-powered Le Mans challenger as TMG prepares for the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone in late August.

Below is a short video of the virtual TS030 at Silverstone alongside some pictures, the full article on the experience can be found here.

I’m surprised nobody has been stupid enough to leave a comment saying “Wow what a waste of money! A monocock to sit in driving a prototype, how unrealistic!!” Personally, I’m gonna design and build my own F1-style car… And I’ll fricken race NASCAR in the damn thing if I want. Sweet machine guys!

    It’s alright….

The reason why it’s an F1-styled monocoque is that TMG used to be the home to Toyota’s failed F1 program. It’s safe to assume it’s basically the same simulator that the one they used back then except for some improvements and different data.

It looks like an amazing über simulator, but apparently it can’t simulate the presence of a Deltawing. Am I right, Kaz Nakajima…?

For anyone still wondering what is this model of, it’s the 2008 F1 Toyota car. Compare the first picture here with this

Silverstone seems like a popular test track for these motorsport sims, The last two Factory race teams’ simulators I saw were both ran there.

it’s obvious it’s not simulating g-forces, it should jerk backwards when accelerating and jerk fowards when braking?

Nice! I think it’s fricken sweet. I’ve seen people criticize others who make cockpits for one type of car and then run a sim with other types of cars(one that comes to mind is that dude that ripped off the front of a car, what was it, an Opel or something? Can’t remember, but people criticized that guy mercilessly). I think it’s awesome, period, to see any actual cockpit for sim racing. Doesn’t matter what kind of time or energy or type of car… It’s all sweet :)

    That would explain it.
    Thanks
