Starting 2010, Formula One will be leaving Silverstone and hold the British Grand Prix at Donington Park. To accommodate motorsport’s main event, an extensive overhaul to the tracks layout and facilities is needed. To simulate what the new Donington will look like, an official virtual version for rFactor has been made.
You can check out some screenshots of the track below, showing the new layout and buildings around the track. According to f1fanatic.co.uk, the track is planned to be released next week, giving rFactor racers a huge advantage over real F1 drivers who have to wait for another one and a half years to race on the new track.
There’s no word on who is responsible for creating the track, it is very good news to see rFactor being used in such a high-profile promotion effort though.

The GP moving there isn’t my favorite desicion, but its good to see such a track simulated, and that the sim is getting some publicity.

Donington is one of my favorite tracks. When I first looked at the PDF file showing the new layout on the Donington website I was very disappointed. At first glance I didn’t see any of the old track. After looking closer I noticed all of my favorite elements of the old track are still in place. It actually looks like it may even be more fun now. I can’t wait to give this one a spin.

Hum.. Look at this on the Donington website:

Perhaps they had the new layout modeled for use in their museum? Lets hope it really does get released to the public.

And another one. Notice the pod they used for their cockpit looks just like the car shown in the 2010 preview screenshots.

As you may know, I worked on GP4……and was recently asked to make a simulation of the new Donington circuit, that which you see above, and of which Keith will soon have some new images to show….
The plan was to use GP4, but they went with rFactor in the end, so was a steep learning curve…..but hey, I like that sort of pressure.. :)
But what did this period teach me?…….Any person who is seriously into F1 or racing simulation, needs to get rFactor, it is the worthy, if not more than worthy succesor to Gp4…….I love it.
Its a fantastic Sim…..

So does anyone know who this Anonymouse guy is? :)

Actually, is it at all possible its someone from the GP4 modding community? I’ve never seen the GP4 sprites on an rfactor track, unless it was a conversion.

ermax, the version of donington on their website is quite clearly my version publicly available for rfactor. You can tell by the way the gravel/fences etc are.

The car also looks like the CTDP/ISI BMW 2007 car.
