DeltaWing Indycar Concept – rFactor Presentation Video

The Indycar series is currently accepting proposals from chassis-builders regarding the series new car that is due to be introduced for the 2012 season.

Four chassis builders have submitted a proposal and among renowned entrants Dallara, Lola and Swift is DeltaWing, introducing a very radical proposal that aims to revolutionize open-wheel racing.

What makes this story interesting from the sim racing standpoint is that DeltaWing is using rFactor to show their design in action. While we already have seen several race teams and manufacturers use rFactor (Pro) in one way or another, using the sim as a platform to present not yet existing prototypes is a very exciting idea.

You can check out DeltaWing’s design running at Mid Ohio below, their futuristic-looking car aims to reach speeds up to 235mph, using only half the power and fuel consumption of today’s Honda-powered Dallara Indycar chassis.

Ok they have got to be kidding. They look like land jets! Can’t take it seriously.

Call me old fashioned…..ok just call me old

…but I like the “traditional” indycars.

  • UncleChuckle

    God those cars look stupid.

  • ZombieJim

I had to check the date, it’s getting dangerously close to April 1st.

Christ, this is motor racing, not the Jetsons.

  • Deano

That car is without a doubt, the most butt-ugly Indy car I have ever witnessed. :weird:

  • Panchito

I can only agree with all the comments above.

  • eddiespag

    What the….?

  • free2game365

I guess Deltawing’s aim is to promote racing that’s close in an ambiguous way.

Although I’m nonplussed by the shape, but they look like accidents waiting to happen.
Judging a tight overtake with those comparatively wide rear ends should prove interesting.

  • roadkill ken

waiting for someone to say”can we have this in GTR2″
Hope that they aren’t the future for open wheel racing.

    Penises with wheels

  • stabiz

    Hehe!

  • DeDios

    +1! :weird:

Perhaps they can use the rudder at the back to get the car to steer in… The car looks like a futuristic racing version of a Reliant… not so sexy. And as we all know the original Reliant always got trashed by Mr Beans Mini Cooper…

    Thumb down. Way down.

  • SergeantBoner

I like it and I think they should go ahead and make it! The car looks way better then anything else racing in america atm anyways so its a nice and interesting ‘car’.

  • scca1981

I want some of whatever that designer is smoking.

SergeantBoner, I can think of plenty of better looking cars racing in America.

  • lauhriz

i wonder did they evem think about the handling of such a car… maybe it has pedals of a bycicle lol, cause they look like ones…. i hope this is a joke and they don’t compete in the selection of a future indycar… it doesn’t make sence… why do they call it an openwheeler, it doesn’t even have wings…

  • RockStar

ugly shit is damn ugly :shame:

  • Sensekhmet

Land speed record cars don’t belong on race tracks. One wonders what’s the company starategy behind submitting such a design. Their chances would be worse only if they submitted a bare engine with a horse saddle for the driver.

  • FooAtari

Video has been taken offline :(

But surely it cant be any worse than what happened to last years F1 cars as results of the rule changes.

  • Deano

The video got pulled because of the bad publicity???

  • RockStar

maybe because they are using mid ohio and rfactor for advertising a comercial product? they can’t do that without permission lol

  • orubasarot

Historically speaking, dong shaped cars have always been my favorite. E types, Z3/Z4/M coupe, 240Z, and even to some extent Aston Martins and the Maserati Gran Turismo. But this shit just ain’t right.

  • orubasarot

Woah I just remembered that I loved the Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic as a kid.

And yet people insist on homosexuality being merely a lifestyle, pffft.

FYI, they asked and received permission which was very considerate of them. Some organizations don’t bother asking.
