It’s not very unusual that online racing leagues create their own cars and physics to suit their league environment, the following story is pretty remarkable still…mainly because of the people involved.
WirPre-Racing e.V., a German online racing league, needed a fictional vehicle to start a commercial racing championship and found very qualified help as CTDP’s Neidryder, GSMF’s Fonsecker and Erale teamed up to create the Cylon RS, a fictional race car you can check out below.
Influenced by many real life cars, the Cylon is a 350hp FWD touring car, meant to provide close racing in a league enviroment. Neidryder has put lots of effort into the car as it comes with fully-modelled doorlines, headlines and other extensive details. Meanwhile, Fonsecker has been busy working on the sounds while Erale is preparing the physics for the car’s first season in September.
Below are plenty of screenshots of the very detailed car for you to enjoy. And just in case you´re wondering why a league car is of interest for you, this isn’t the last time you´ve heard about the Cylon….

Very nice design. Is this going to be released publicly, or just for the league?

Looks like an Audi A3 nailed a Mazda 3 not so long ago…and what’s with this Euro-obsession for racing pedestrian station wagons??

Probably because that’s the only type of car we can ever afford to own in RL, then again how hard can it be to code a good handling FWD car.
Btw, I’m super impressed with this project. I just hope the end result isn’t too tuned up to WTCC level because I want a bit more weight and body roll to play with and generally have more fun. Also, won’t 350hp give you quite a lot of torque steer?

Hi Guys,
the Cylon is exclusive for the DSTM-Project.
It will be a commercial Championship, where you can win Money and Prices like a Taxidrive with a real VLN-Porsche or a Fanatec Wheel.
The Mod isnt a Public-Mod and it will not be allowed to organize any Events in the Simracing-World.
DSTM called for Deutsche Simracing Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (German Simracing Touringcarchampionship)
If you are interested in this Project, lets have a look to http://www.dstm-racing.de
I hope you will enjoy the Project and join to the Grid!

Good close racing with Touring cars is a big draw. GT’s etc don’t often create such close racing. Look how popular the Mini’s are in Race07 with clubs and leagues.

I’d be interested in running in a league like yours. I recently competed in the RDTCC with the S2000 touring cars with a solid run to 4th.
Unfortunately I can’t navigate your site do to my poor handling of foreign languages
. Looks gr8 though

Sorry Phil,
in the first Step it is a german Championship, so the Language is German.
If it will be a good Championship, we will upgrade to a international Series.

No disagreement here… but touring cars can look at lot better than econo-hatches (Audi S4, BMW320si, BMW 135, etc…)

Fair enough
.
Hope it goes well and if you do go international at a later date then make sure we know about it
.
@DevonK yes good point

The modelling looks great but the car styling is very…er …challenging. nice details but badly proportioned. Like a small Lexus. I wouldn’t buy one.

How did they get famous names like that to do a mod just for them :D? Do they get paid?

Looks like they stole the front from the Audi R8, the headlights from the Audi TT and created a small hatchback out of it. They should rename rFactor to pFactor (pirateFactor) xD

Even human excrement looks better than the BMW 1-series.

If anyone’s going to make a HER mod (Human Excrement Racing) let me know. I’m not good at physics or 3D but I can help you out with the sounds.

This is one sweet looking car. Of course I like hot hatches so opinions may vary.

Driving a Fiat Multipla, are you?
Btw, isnt Cylon that robot thingy from a space series?

Sort of – cylons were the artificial life forms in Battlestar Galactica.

LOL – I’d agree wrt the hatchback body, not so much on the coupe – it may be a little boxy, but seen in the flesh the 135 looks pretty damn good.

Not only torque steer, but huge understeer and burnt rubber too. There’s propably more than100 horsepower that are not usable around corners in such a thing. Cheap electronic differentials that are usually fitted on such cars don’t help things much either.
Nice model indeed, it would be tricky to do those specs and keep it believable without making the car a challenge to drive in terms of handling the oversteer, though.
On why Europeans love fwd hatchbacks, it’s because they’re cheap, nice for crowded cities and as agile as you can get in mountain roads with slow corners. Huge, agressive driving fun. The good old Peugeot 205 gti could propably outhandle lambos and such at that environment. I wish someone would do a mod with classic GTI’s and proper physics.
