Cubemaps 1.0 – Released

GSMF’s Alien@work and 6e66o have released a pack of changed cubemaps optimised for rFactor, GTR2, RACE07 and GTR Evolution.

As shown in various shots during the last days, the new cubemaps change the car’s reflection, giving them a more realistic and polished look.

How to use:

Search for used cubemap file in your game installation. Usually it´s placed in a mas/gtr archive in the vehicle folder of your mod/game

Rename the cubemap you picked from our package and paste it in the folder the original cubemap/mas is located.

Example:

With rF´s CTDP05 Mod you will have to copy your cubemaps called “car_cube_dx9.dds” in “GameData\Vehicles\CTDP\CTDP”, where CTDP05.mas is located

With GTR2 you will have to copy your cubemaps called “EMAP.dds” in “GameData\Teams” where stex.GTR is located

    ok just tried the “CAR_CUBE_more shiny.dds” as my new emap_paint.dds in GTR2 and it does look much better. The colors are definitely more vibrant.

    An easy way to install this in GTR2 would be to pick one of the 3 in the 6e66o folder, rename it to “emap_paint.dds”, then put it into your GTR2/Gamedata/Teams folder. If you don’t like the effect you can easily just delete the file.

    just tried it with ctdp2005 and i dont see the file they’re talking about in the read me, i tried the best i could after reading 3 times the read me and the mod is not starting.. nor the 288gto challenge (great mod in case you haven,t tried it already) and it’s not starting anymore.. so ill pass i guess

    I though we had to replace a file from the x mod folder. only need to Rename the chosen cube file to car_cube_dx9.dds
    working now, the reflection is much better!

    Will be better if U spend your time on necessary things. For example Maserati MC12 big wing for rFactor(EOAA)like it did Andrea ITA for GTR2. Because I want to do GT1 union(WSGT+MC12 from EOAA)but McLaren F1 & others have a normal wing. Or U can to work with maps only?

    i dont get it . could anyone upload the mastool ? dont work on rsc . for example i want to see the mmg 07 ferrari with this cubemap . what i have to do ?

    Are you actually meant to replace the existing cubemap or do you just place it in the same folder?

    Just put it into the right folder (in MMG’s case where the mmgsharedfiles mas file is and it should use that one instead. Im pretty sure you don’t need to re-insert it into the mas file.

    ok find the mmgsharedfiles mas . put car_cube_dx9.dds in the folder , no difference . put the CAR_CUBE.dds in folder , no difference . i only want to see the effect on a mod . maybe on epsilon euskadi mod somehow ?

    hmmm yeah I just tried it on MMG07 too and noticed no difference.

    i think the problem is that every mod has other cubemap name . you need to open the mas file to see which file it is and raname geggos cubemap . i download the mastool on an other site but cant handle with it and 3dsimed costs 25pounds :shock:

    Just putting it in the folder won’t necessarily work – it depends on the search paths in the gen files. Some will have open dirs listed as well as mas files, some won’t. For the average user this will be a difficult mod-mod to manage, but there’s no way around it.

    OK, I’ve tried it with GTR evo, it works, but I was under impression that the original file works a bit better with most of the cars… They looked to dark and lifeless with the new car_cube… Maybe I should have tried with more shiny cube file? I’ve put the ne cube file in GTR2 then, and whoohoo – cars looks so much more realisctic… well done! I’ve got few questins though; what should I do with the files from the other directory – by GSMF Alien (skyxx.dds, buildingxx.dds etc)? I assume they should add to even more realistic appereance (such as that Porsche in those pics). Also, wher shuould I put the file for Historic GT? I’ve tried it in almost every folder and no changes… Thanks…

    Will this give that sheen to all cars? I only use the cockpit view and rarely watch replays, so I’m wondering if this tool would have any value for me. Thanks.

    Alien has made some cool alternative cubemaps,
    make sure to try them too.
    For HistorX its in comunes.mas

    for MMG you have to put the File called “CAR_CUBE_DX9.DDS” in “GameData\Vehicles\MMG\F1\2007_Season”.
    MMG uses dark alpha channels, so you might want to brighten them up, so you will see more reflections.
    Thats what i did,

    you still see cars in front of you, when drivin in cockpit view, dont you? ;)

    But you have to find out for yourself,
    if you want to use it or not.

    I taste it in rFactor(CTDP,DTM & EOAA) – no difference! I think it more important for GTR2 or something like that.

    Looks really good for ctdp 2005 & mmg 2007 mods. Had to use mas editor for rFactor to get the new cube maps to work though. :smile:

    Can someone help me with installing it into rFactor?
    I’ve tried a lot, even edit my .MAS file.
    But it wont work as good like the video’s?
    And yes i’ve renamed it to CAR_CUBE_DX9.dds
    And where i have to put al those files from the “By GSMF Alien” ??

    For Evo you need to rename it to emap_paint.dds and put it in GameData/Teams.

    Cubemaps copy of each file to the masses, which contains the name and CUBE.dds is as pisaliście Vehicles in the folder \ MMG \ F1 \ 2007_Season … Zero effect, changing the name of a local, nothing …cubemaps I took from a folder that GSMF Alien ..

    just rename them.

    you dont need to unpack anything,
    just rename the cubemap you choose from our pack to car_cube_dx9.dds and put it in the right folder (“GameData\Vehicles\MMG\F1\2007_Season” for MMG 07)

    6e66o, thanks for the cubemaps got them working on the PCC cars (following your instructions on your site!). What do I do with the .dds file if there are many different folders for cars e.g. The Legends cars or DTM2007. Thanks

    You can find out where to place the dds file by opening the gen file of the cars.

    On DTM07 Audi f.e. you will find following lines:
    MASFile=DTM2007\AUDI.mas
    MASFile=DTM2007\dtmcockpit.mas
    MASFile=DTM2007\dtmcmaps.mas

    The cmaps.mas is the one, youre looking for,
    It contains the cubemap dds.
    Open the mas with ISI´s tool and you will see how the cubemap is called.

    In this case and at most other mods its called “car_cube_dx9.dds”

    So now you know where to place the file + how it must be called.

    I have Install the DDS in this folder:

    The addon Ferrari’s of SCCA works super fine

    What do you mean by that? :shock:

    WSGT isn’t released on rF, + the wing of McLaren is way bigger than the original MC12 prototype wing.

    I don’t know for other, but at least for me the cubemap only work when I used mas editor … Placing the files in CTDP folder doesn’t override the cubemap … Just open the mas file and insert the cubemap dds file … Then create mas … and you are done … Not sure for other mod though as i tried CTDP05 only …

    Arnold it more simply than U think! I will do it union, when U will release WSGT! Original wing(if U dont know)by MC12 for porno FIA GT championship! I said about real Gran Tourismo like it was in 1997 for example(F1,CLK-GTR,GT1 etc.). I hope U releasing WSGT soon!

    Ok men. For Evo, just rename the file you want (Normal , less or more…) in EMAP.dds and EMAP_PAINT.dds in the folder “teams”. It doesn’t work because some original cars are not here. Don’t know where.

    My big question is ; what can I do with the other .dds files in the other directory (sky.dds, building.dds, etc…)? Where can I put it? I tried in “teams” folder but nothing happened…

    You can do exactly the same with those files,
    rename them and put in the right folder.
    They´re just some more cubemaps in different Styles.
