Cubemap Experiments – Comparison Video

Following the first shots of his experiments with rFactor cubemaps, 6e66o has made a comparison video, showing us the changed cubemap’s effect on various cars.

Those who want to pay a closer look can download a high quality version here. Is this experiment an improvement in terms of realism and looks or not? You decide!

    without watching the video I can say 75% of mods in rF have fecked up env/cube maps/mapping.. a few are so bad as to be un watchable/enjoyable.

    i will upload it soon, after some more testing ;)

    its the texture for the reflections on the car.
    It doesnt cost any performance, if you dont change the size of it, i guess.

    It does look good. It just seems to have something cartoon-ish when looking at the cars, but only over roof, sidepanel look good :) very good. Good work

    6e66o does that texture update afect all cars or does it has to be done on peer car basis, in other words is that texture in a single rf folder or in eatch car folder.
    Oh and thnaks, looks realy nice :grin:
    Cant it be done so the cars look a litle less “clean”?

    It would be possible to make it affect only certain cars in a mod,
    but probably not without editing the gen file.

    A less clean look could be achieved by editing the alphachannel of the car skins.

    Please note,
    that i will only upload the cubemap texture itself,
    what you´re gonna make out of it,
    will be up to you ;)

    I think the amount of glow in the GSMF-guy’s screenshots seems more reasonable. It needs to be discreet, great job though
