Earlier today, CTDP has announced a new modding project for rFactor 2 – Formula One 2009.
Unlike the past years when the full team focused on F1 2006, CTDP will now be splitting their team, allowing them to work simultaneously on F1 1994 and F1 2009 which is possible due to some new additions to their team.
F1 2009 will be one of the first major mods for rFactor 2, including all cars and drivers of the 2009 Formula One season in usual CTDP quality. 2009 is a significant year for Formula One as new aerodynamic rules as well as the addition of KERS will be having a significant impact on the series.

How thay can made a mod for a sim that isn’t released yet?

It’s probably the same than with the WSGT 2 mod. A big portion of work (modelling for example) can be done without even knowing which sim it will be for.
But you´ll better wait for some of the experts to reply

Sweet…
But wait, now I have a question: Is the 1994 mod going to be released for rF1 or rF2? Or even both…

This is a surprise, I must say, but a very pleasant one
As for the rF2 thing, almost all of the assets (sounds, skins, etc.) can be made at the moment, but I’m guessing the models will be too high poly to run a whole field inthe current Gmotor2, and there will be many other things, like the realtime reflections, different pit crews, weather, etc. etc.
Brilliant news, can’t wait for the first media!

Well, the announcement does not talk about rF2, so we have to wait for an official word I suppose.
There’s a part that can be interpreted in that way, anyway: “They will recreate all cars of the upcoming formula-one season in a mod comparable in quality of future mods” .
I do hope to see it in rF2: it would be a pleasure to see what the new ISI’s title can bring us!

I specifically put the rFactor 2 bit in for a reason

My guess is that CTDP has close connections with ISI about rFactor 2. They worked together before (BMW Sauber 2007) and as far as I can remember, when rFactor (1) came out, the formula 3 mod (by Lo) came out very quickly, because he was able to test his mod with rFactor before it came out (I may be wrong though).

Ooh, Burn!
But seriously, I could stretch to a 2 year wait mebbe…I mean, I’ll still be playing rFactor, I still play GPL. rF2 should be pretty well developed in 2 years… And this is CTDP quality remember.
Of course, I don’t think it’ll be that long. Just a guesstimate at what the situation will be.

As professional as CTDP’s work is, it wouldn’t be surprising if they are given key information from the rFactor devs to help them mod for it. Nothing can help rFactor2 more on release than to have a quality product like a CTDP release simultaneously (or in the near future). Essentially, it would be like buying a F1 2009 sim off the shelf!

it’s very clever from ISI, to cooperate with CTDP. having a quality f1 mod of the current season, might increase the sales of rf2. as it is developed by a private modding team, it saves the bucks for the incredible expensive official f1 licence. this is a kick into codemasters butt

With the updated physics engine in rfactor2 I wouldn’t be suprised if CTDP doesn’t blow the doors off codemasters f1 2009 game

True, true. But Codies are a good developer, I’ll be getting F109 regardless
