CTDP F1 2006 – Safety Car Cockpit Previews

Posted on June 13th, 2008 in

CTDP is known for their attention to details, that’s why their Mercedes Benz safety car is not just pretty to look at – It can be driven too!

To properly put you in the shoes of Bernd Mayländer, the F1 2006 safety car will be getting its own set of physics and of course a cockpit. The first cockpit and steering wheel previews can be found below, for more updates on CTDP’s mod visit their dev-blog.

Well that is not what you are going to get. Andy is waiting on a DVD to show him how to do rigging on the driver model, that is one of the major things slowing the project down.
So whilst this is on hold as mentioned MILLIONS off times, leagues have requested a driveable safety car, so now they have some free time to complete they are fullfilling this request!

And again if you have been reading which you most likely have but you just have selective hearing, they do not want to release a patch at all for the mod. They want everything that is going to be in the mod, to be in the mod on release. 100% working and no bugs.

Be supportive of what they are doing. As WHATA said, developers now don’t fully bug test their games because they know that releasing bug patches prolong the use of the game and helps for doing sequels, which is 100% wrong.

Be supportive instead of being I want I want I want me me me now now now.

Lets face it, its not going to be bug free no matter how much they test. Someone is going to find something.
Why does he need to rig the driver model anyway ?

Ryan has it occurred to you that maybe not everyone is 100% clued in and has read up on the situation at CTDP ? Not everyone knows about this DVD or about leagues requesting driveable safety cars. You assume that everyone should know it all. Deal with the fact that it isnt and dont apportion blame to those that arent as informed as yourself.

“Why does he need to rig the driver model anyway ?”

so you want a driver that stands upright with his arms out straight beside him, rigging the driver will also help in rF2 if the animations are ever put in game.

Also if you just read our devblog you will see that all Ryan does is read that to get the information its not difficult. Also we are working hard on the mod and putting in extra features while we wait for the physics to be completed, these extra features are not delaying the mods release.

But I guess its the community’s right to have the mod now right? Some people in this community need to sort their attitude out as if we paid attention to them nobody would be making mods for this game or at least not releasing any as our motivation would take a hammering every time we read our devblog.

    Thanks Shaun :)

‘But I guess its the community’s right to have the mod now right’

Please don’t go down that route, one person asked one question.

You put him right, leave it at that.

This modders vs ‘community’ attitude is uneccesary.

“so you want a driver that stands upright with his arms out straight beside him, rigging the driver will also help in rF2 if the animations are ever put in game.”

er..no you simply model the driver in the correct sitting position in the first place. Unless of course he already has a 3rd party driver model that needs to be rigged into place.

Whats the point now of doing stuff for rF2 ? Thats ages off and you don’t even know if it will have driver anims.
    Waste of time.

Compo – I know for a fact that CTDP know more about rF2 than alot of the community. And before people start whineing at me, no I don’t know and don’t claim to know what is in rF2. So if they see they need to do it to make things easier for the future then leave them to do it. And secondly it is much harder to model a character in a pose than it is to have the character standing up, legs open and arms out.

Fair enough. I suppose they know whats best.

:) I should read what I say before I post it as I always come over as agressive. Sorry if I did.

Nah nah thats fine man. When it comes to what the modders put out, I’m grateful of anything they want to give away for free from working in their own spare time.

If the safety car is driveable does that mean that, say, if there is an incident on lap 26 for example that someone can actually take the SC out of the pits and control the field (multiplayer of course) ?

aslong as everyone abides by the rules set behind the race then yes. You can at the start of the race drive to the end of the pitlane, park up, switch the engine off and then wait and wait. If a safety car is required you follow the rules set before the race and thats it. Come back into the pits – park up at the end – switch off – and watch the race kick off again.

I know our league has been considering it to use in our next season but when people have been getting punctures it has been getting abit dangerous with some cars spinning here there and everywhere. Apart from that their is no real reason to have this in leagues unless you had a REALLY GOOD AI System that could handle it by itself to tell you when to go out etc…

And now alex has given me an idea for an F1 Safety Car Cup lol… oh another side note, when our league has tried it in the past using the MMG Safety car, we had 3 drivers acting as the safety car just incase one dropped out.

Sounds really cool. I actually didnt know you could do that in rF.
