Comment Guide

Starting with VirtualR’s third anniversary on July 9th 2010 , a new comment interface is in place. The new system aims to make commenting easier, more fun and pleasant for everyone.

If you haven’t worked with the new interface before, please make sure to read this guide to make most of the new features.

Please note that the comment system will display the menus in the language selected in your browser, they might look slightly different than in the screenshots below.

Sign-up & Log-In

Since the comments are now maintained by a professional service, your old VirtualR log-in data is no longer valid! Don’t panic though, getting started with the new system is very easy as you can use accounts from several social-network sites to post comments on VirtualR.

If you are a frequent internet-user, chances are high that you already have an account that can be used with VirtualR. If you´re using Facebook, Twitter or other social services, simply click on sign-in, choose your service and enter the log-in data. You´ll be getting a message telling you that your data will be used for logging in on VitualR by JS-Kit (the company maintaining the comment service).

Please note that your log-in data for any third-party service won’t be shared with VirtualR but only between the service and the comment interface. Nobody will be able to see or use your log-in data for any other purpose!

Changing your Nickname & Avatar

Once you´ve successfully logged in, chances are you want to change your nickname from the one used by your social media account or add an avatar. Both things can be done easily, simply click on your nickname in the main comment field to change it.

Changing your avatar is equally easy, simply click on the standard avatar picture left of your nickname to open up the avatar menu. You can either choose to use an avatar from Gravatar or other services or upload an image file from your computer.

Community Moderation

One of the most powerful new features of the comment area is community-moderation. From now on, all registered members can play a role in keeping the comments on VirtualR clean from profanity or excessive trolling.

Registered members can flag postings by clicking the “flag” link under each posting, as soon as a certain amount of flags for a post is reached it will be automatically removed. If you´ve ever used the thumbs-down feature on Youtube, you´ll know how this system works.

Please don’t flag postings simply because you disagree with the poster’s opinion but reserve it for cases in which foul language or obvious trolling spoil the fun for everyone.

Have Fun

The new comment interface comes with plenty of other options you´ll soon discover. You can now include photos or Youtube videos in comments, like other peoples comments or follow comment threads via RSS or email.
