Colin McRae DIRT 2 – Previews

Codemasters is adding another title to their Colin McRae Rally franchise as DIRT 2 will be making its way to the PC and consoles in late 2009.

Ever since the release of Colin McRae Rally 2, the company has somewhat lost its simulation ways, putting more emphasis on eye candy and action instead of driving physics. This seems to persist as the first DIRT 2 previews surely look stunning, it’s unlikely that the cars will get proper physics to go with the graphical glory though.

Fresh blood in terms of rally simulations would be pretty much needed though as Richard Burns Rally remains the only available title to choose from since its release in late 2004. The most positive aspect about those CMR titles is that they keep remembering people of Colin McRae, the legendary Scottish World Rally Champion who was involved in a fatal helicopter crash in 2007.

    It looks stunning. Fact.

I guess proper physics would be too much to ask for our even most recents CPU’s in addition to the looks that already use quite a lot of processing time…

Colin McRae DIRT 2 does look very nice. The first one was good, ok the physics are nothing compared to RBR but it was fun, especially the CORR buggies and trucks.

It would be nice to one day have a new rally sim that is basically a new Richard Burns Rally, but with the current mods keeping the sim up to date with new cars and now stages… do we need one?

Awesome, this is stadium racing.. like the X-Games, great as I agree the trophy trucks were the best section of Dirt

    Can not wait :ooo:

Can hardly believe this is ingame grafic.
I wont get the game anyway…cmr physics are really weak.

    RBR ftw!

I thought DIRT was a great game. It may have been ‘arcadey’ but it was fun to play.

  • stabiz

Agreed 6e66o. I got DIRT with a graphics card once, and I gave it to a friend, the physics are horrible.

RBR looking like this would be classified as filthy, filthy porn.

Sad that a developer that made a console/PC series as great as Colin McRae Rally now is making this arcadish crap.

Oh, well: Long live Richard Burns Rally!

    All show, no go. :sd:

No, these shots are not ingame! I read an article in the german gamestar magazine 2-3 months ago (or so) with the same screenies and they said they were edited.
In fact both games ftw because think back to CMR 1 or 2.0 or maybe the 3 these were great games, but thats the difference!
    CMR is the game
RBR (or should i say RSRBR) is the simulation!
