Codemasters has released a short teaser video of their upcoming F1 2009 & 2010 titles for gaming consoles and PC.
F1 2009 will only be released for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, PC and next-gen console gamers have to wait until mid-2010 to get their hands on Codemasters’ first ever official Formula One game.
In related news, a rather interesting Codemasters developer interview can be found here if you skip to the middle of the video. Even though the beginning is in Dutch, the actual interview is held in English.
This will probably be the last item on Codemasters’ F1 games on VirtualR until first info & material on F1 2010 becomes available. Even though F1 2009 will be released this year, I doubt the choice of platform and audience makes it an interesting product for sim racers. If you disagree, you´re welcome to leave a comment

We already know what the game is gonna be… shitty physics with decent-good graphics.
Its sad that codemasters has all this money to spend on licenses but they can’t hire someone who can program decent phsyics.

I think there will be a lot of sim factors included, aerodynamic and mechanics will come as very important.
Nintendo Wii ? , not sure about that. I always seen Wii as a family console.

If I get F1 2009, it’ll have to be the PSP version.
Can’t stand the Wii’s “waggle” control method.–Too sloppy and imprecise, even by console standards.

You do not need to use motion controls to drive Mario Kart. I highly doubt you need them for F1 2009.

Montoya, I definately agree with your last paragraph in the description. As a sim racer I am not interested in the slightest about an F1 game on a kiddie console such as the Wii or the PSP.

Well if this is anything like the game is going to look.. they have a lot of work to do.. this is not acceptable for a 2009/10 of any type of game.. If i were F1.. i would really be having a chat with Codemasters to make sure this is a very very early sketch of what’s to come.. as of now.. it looks like crap… but you judge for yourself..

I highly doubt the wii and psp footage we see is going to be anything like the quality you will get on a PC or next gen console. :) Plus I dont think they are making us wait another whole year to port a Wii version over to PC.
Thats like me comparing Ferrari GT on my IPhone to driving on in GTR2.

I doubt you’ll need to worry, I’m sure F1 2010 will blow away anything else on the PC by a considerable distance given how far ahead next gen console graphics are compared to PC sims.
‘i am not playing nfs , codemasters stuff and other “things” , waste of time’
So you won’t be playing the latest title from the most celebrated PC sim developer of recent years or a licensed F1 title that will include all the latest sim developments such as laser scanned tracks.
OK, your loss.

PC SIM developer they maybe could do the sim some fishing simulator or chess simulator ?!!?!?! WTF ?
list of their sims :
- grid
- dirt
- fuel
sims , hmm maybe like sims2 tresure island or something :|
REMEMBER MY WORDS (one) : MARKETING ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY CASH $$$$ 1,000,000
i dont feel like i should give them my money for what ? i better spend it on Crysis or Brothers In Arms
the first thing i can buy right now is RF2 with my eyes closed no matter the price :]
most celebrated ?? not for me there is loud about nfs too and i didnt played it cause i CANNOT drive it i DONT KNOW how ?!
with my DFP set too 445 degrees its impossible to drive any grid or nfs you feel like you are not driving a car but some hovercraft and for hovercraft i once drived one in Crysis warhead – way better than grid :D
if you guys want to play real F1 title that will include all the teams licensed cars go here :

pc sim developer thats a good joke
losers shouldnt drive games like grid nfs etc – the first thing which they do is killing theirselfs on the real roads or innocent people – thats insane
codies sims should be called unreal driving
for last THEY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO HIRE BEST INGENEERS in the world to make best pc simulators , they dont do it , because they dont want to do it , they minds tells them that the money which they can earn on stupid game for losers are more than real simulator
their marketing chiefs are wrong lets be honest , there are more losers in the planet called earth than real enthusiasts , thats their marketing
and i dont want to be treated like an idiot , thats insults me ..
ps
laser scan tracks ? what for ? who needs them ? me, no i never driven any of the circuits and i will never do so laser scaned tracks , hmmmm if you need them go ahead

the F1 cars in gran turismo are decent for what htey are lol.
That intro vid was kind of cool, would be sweet if our American tv broadcast had opening intros like that, maybe get some more people interested in F1 out here for the technology aspect.

“I doubt the choice of platform and audience makes it an interesting product for sim racers.”
Among my group of sim friends, even the PC version falls into this category.
It’s Codemasters. I mean come on, have you not SEEN what Codemasters consider to be sims? It’s embarrassing.

maybe so, but indications so far are that CM are wanting and indeed trying to go that extra mile on this one. They know whats expected of this title so they cannot hide behind that excuse. That was not the case with DIRT and GRID.
So when it comes to bringing an officially licenced F1 game back to the PC, I’m prepared to give them a chance at it. Only 1 though :)

The first Codemasters-game I played was Toca 2, back in 1998 (not Toca Race Driver 2!). The physics where not perfect but at least it felt like driving a car. Sadly that was the last drivable and enjoyable racing game Codemasters has made.
P.S. Does Toca 2 run on XP or Vista? I would love to play it again!
Check the awsome weather-effects :) : http://img.neoseeker.com/screenshots/R2FtZXMvUGxheXN0YXRpb24vUmFjaW5nL0Nhcg==/toca_2_touring_car_challenge_image2.jpg

‘PC SIM developer they maybe could do the sim some fishing simulator or chess simulator ?!!?!?! WTF ?’
Perhaps you should do a little research rather than reiterating all of the insecurities of the PC sim community?
The team behing NFS Shift are the developers of GTR2 and GT Legends, if you wish to write off that game due to it’s name, rather than the team and technology behind it, that’s your loss.
As for Codemasters, Grid and Dirt are arcade games, to claim they are Codemasters idea of a sim is ridiculous. If you couldn’t careless about laser scanned tracks and make judgments based on PSP and Wii trailers, I’m not sure your opinions hold much weight.
The resistence to everything console related is becoming tiresome, they are becoming the lead sim platforms for professional development teams.

Not necessarilly seeing as it’s the teams behind the games that count, not the platform. The best FPS shooters are now on consoles, the most interesting sim developments are also emerging on consoles with SMS/Blimey, Simbin, GT series, Forza series, even Codemasters F1 title. PC hardware from Logitech etc. is also compatiable with the PS3.

And where would all that leave the modding community ?
If all the best racing sims are on consoles, this community would fragment into nothingness.
Thankfully I don’t see it going that way just yet and so far we can still rely on Simbin and ISI with rFactor 2 too keep us from going down that dark road.

IMO the modding community is already fragmented with limited resources spread too thinly.
If for example rFactor 2 was the modding communities sole focus, maybe we’d see more co-operation and less duplication.
As it is mod teams are struggling to release mods that match upto the graphical standards of next gen consoles and release them in a decent time frame.
