Cric has released a beta of his Formula One mod for Slightly Mad Studio’s Need for Speed Shift title, bringing open-wheel race cars to the popular racing title.
Based on F1LIGUE’s Formula One mod for rFactor, the mod gives us a first impression of what’s really possible with modding in Shift. As you can see below, the result is far away from being perfect yet but well worth trying for every F1 fan driving Shift.
Important: As most releases for Shift, the mod requires you to unpack Shift’s files before using it.
Julien Regnard is continuing to improve his much-discussed Sharp Tires Mod for Need for Speed Shift that aims to overhaul Shift’s tire physics and force feedback.
Version 3.1 comes with plenty of changes in terms of force feedback and other physic tweaks as listed below.
Changelog:
Better FFB, firmer in center
FFB drop when front wheels understeer can be felt more clearly.
Car CoG height is now real figure-> cars more alive, more challenging sometimes, lap times closer to real ones.
Tyres adjusted to be a little more difficult to recover when grip is lost.
The mod requires the latest version of Need for Speed Shift (1.02) to be installed, it works both with packed and unpacked versions of the game. Make sure to check out the mod’s readme file for more info and recommended settings to make most of the new tire behaviour.
EA & Slightly Mad Studios will be released the Ferrari Racing Series download-content pack for the Xbox 360 version of Need for Speed Shift, adding ten Ferrari sports cars to the game.
The pack will include the Ferrari FXX, the California, the 599 GTB Fiorano, the F50 GT and the F430 as well as other Ferrari road cars. Furthermore, the pack will add the Ferrari World Tour to the game’s career mode.
Unfortunately, all of this will be limited to the Xbox 360 version of Shift as the DLC won’t be available for the PC and Playstation 3 versions. As explained by Ferrari, this decision is due to the fact that EA owns no license to produce Ferrari-content for the PC and Playstation 3 versions of the game. The Xbox version of the pack is made possible thanks to a sub-license with Microsoft, limiting the pack to their platform.
EA & Slightly Mad Studios have released a bunch of new previews of the Ferrari Racing Series download pack that will be coming to the Xbox 360 version of Need for Speed Shift on Thursday.
The pack will bring ten Ferrari sports cars to Shift, including the Ferrari FXX, the California, the 599 GTB Fiorano, the F50 GT and the F430 both as GTC and Spyder version. Furthermore, the pack will add the Ferrari World Tour to the game’s career mode.

Julien Regnard has released an all-new version of his Sharp Tires physics mod for Need for Speed Shift, aiming to improve the simulation’s tire physics.
The new version comes with plenty of changes as Julien is not just working on the tires but has also overhauled the brakes, FFB and more as listed below.
Features:
* This mod replaces all racing tyres in NFSS. *Not drifting tyres*
* It greatly reduces car left/right oscillations. Car feels more connected to the road.
* It makes steering far more direct and precise, mostly removing the feeling there is a controller lag.
* You need to be more precise and careful to be fast.
* reduces differential pre-load
* Reduces brake pressure as default stock brakes were already far too strong. Now you can feel difference between cold and hot brakes, and brake upgrades are more useful.
* Change default controllers setup for a better FFB
* Default springs are stiffer on most road cars.
The mod requires the latest version of Need for Speed Shift (1.02) to be installed, it works both with packed and unpacked versions of the game. Make sure to check out the mod’s readme file for more info and recommended settings to make most of the new tire behaviour.

- tyre stiffness (long, lat, cornering)
- tyre damping
- tyre speed sensitivity
- Matt’s brake mod
- Adjusted brake pressure for all cars.

A Ferrari-themed download content pack for Need for Speed Shift will be released later this month, bringing many sought-after Ferraris and a new tier in career mode to Slightly Mad Studio’s popular first title.
Even though this pack hasn’t been officially announced yet, the Major Nelson podcast spilled the beans a few days ago, revealing that ten Ferrari’s will be making their way into Shift, coming with new archivements and new events for the game’s career mode.
Need for Speed Shift Ferrari DLC Pack Car List (as mentioned in the leak)
- Ferrari FXX
- Ferrari F430
- Ferrari F50 GT
- Ferrari California
The pack is planned to be released later this month, keep in mind that this is leaked info for now and the information might change once an official announcement is there.
Back in December, Slightly Mad Studios released the first DLC pack for Shift, bringing five new cars to the title. The new pack will close the only major gap in the title’s lineup of manufacturers as Ferrari joins other high-profile brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Maserati in Need for Speed Shift.
Julien Regnard has released a new version of his Sharp Tires Mod for Need for Speed Shift, aiming to give the title’s tire model a realistic overhaul.
The mod improves the tire physics, allowing more precise and direct steering, as well as a more realistic grip level. The tire data is based on real-life data and extensive testing, the game’s drift tire physics have not been touched.
The mod requires the latest version of Need for Speed Shift (1.02) to be installed, it works both with packed and unpacked versions of the game. Make sure to check out the mod’s readme file for more info and recommended settings to make most of the new tire behaviour.
Every time accomplished race drivers try a racing game it’s definitely worth a story, especially if it’s a real racing legend. The video below shows Hurley Haywood driving Need for Speed Shift as part of a “Game with Fame” event where gamers get to chance to play against celebrities on Xbox LIVE.
Haywood is one of the world’s most successful sports car racers, winning the Le Mans 24 Hours three times and being a Daytona 24 Hours record winner with five overall victories. Haywood was closely associated with Brumos Racing and Porsche, spending the majority of his career driving Weissach-built machinery. Today, he’s Chief Driving Instructor at the Porsche Sports Driving School in Birmingham, Alabama.
SETHAlpine has released the first ever addon car for Slightly Mad Studios’ Need for Speed Shift, bringing the French Alpine A410 concept car to the game.
The brand new car comes with unique physics and working upgrades & tuning kits to integrate well in to Need for Speed Shift.
Important: The car requires you to unpack Shift’s files and will replace the Chevrolet Cobalt from the original car lineup.
Here’s a fun thing for all you Need for Speed Shift fans who want to get their Shift fix everywhere they go – The Need for Speed Shift iPhone app.
Available for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, the game includes 20 different cars from road-going machinery to full blown race cars that can be driven on a bunch of street circuits.
The car is steered tilting the iPhone in the desired direction, the game automatically accelerates and allows you to brake by tapping the screens. What sounds kind of goofy works out pretty well, keep in mind that this is an arcade game though as the driving can’t be considered to be realistic in any way.
The most interesting thing about the game is the fact that it bares close resemblance to the PC and console versions of Shift, including the showroom, the points bar on the top of the screen and the driver profiles – Need for Speed Shift users will feel right at home in the mobile version. The game is now available in the Apple App store, selling for $9.99, below is a video of the title in action.
Virtua_LM has released new previews of another stunning track creation for rFactor, showing us new shots of the Japanese Fuji Speedway in late 80s specification.
Located near the famous Mount Fuji in Oyama, Japan, Fuji Speedway was opened in 1963. The track was a popular venue for sports car races as the track was part of the FIA World Sports Car Championship for Group C prototypes from 1982 to 1988.
Even though the track was slowed down with two chicanes during the 80s, speeds on the track remained very high thanks to the 1.5 kilometer main straght - The longest in motorsports.
