Here's what Niels (Heusinkveld) posted in the RLD RSC subforum:

"Not often does one see something other than 'the usual' when opening a TBC file..

Here I see curves that seem to make sense, tire speed effects that make sense, peaks that make sense.. Its very rare for me to download a mod and actually consider taking it for a spin, without that necessarily meaning spinning out every 2nd corner."

If you don't know him or what he's done for sim physics, or at least rF mod physics, then you really don't know enough ;)

There's only so much you can get from videos. Comparing how a mod drives by looking at the real deal on video is as accurate as judging how a mod drives by looking at a video of it.

Base set-up - check
RealFeel Settings - check
Driving style - check(ish)
Lap times - fail

:)

It must just be my driving line and style that needs to be honed.

Edit
So I got down to a 1:08:08, high 1:07s should be easy, beyond that will require some practice. I think I just need to carry more speed through and out the corner. Easier said than done...

First of all make sure you pick the baseline setup for Mid-Ohio that is in the setup pack that comes with the mod... That works quite well for me. The readme has some documentation for controller settings that are pretty elementary, I wouldnt use anything other than those settings with Realfeel.

Driving-wise there´s no big secret, what Ive seen online so far though are a lot of people trying to drive it like F1 cars, braking super-late and stomping the throttle, constantly overshooting the groove.. Really not the way to go with these cars, slow in - fast out is the best strategy, and always trying to stick to the racing line.

I can do 05´s with no problem whatever, almost feels easy once you get the hang of it, and Im no alien... Now, dont ask me how to do 04´s as that probably demands a little more than simple tips :)

Care to share some tips. I don’t feel I’m anywhere near over driving the mod and have pretty good and consistent lines yet my lap times are not that great. 1:09s I think. I can’t possibly see where I can find 4 or 5 seconds…
I’ve been watching a lot of late 90’s CART videos recently. This is when I started watching it as I got satellite TV in the UK in 97/98 so was the first time it was available to me. It’s so depressing what American OW racing has become.

I´m lapping regularly in the 05´s at this track with the baseline setup supplied with the mod, have seen people doing 04´s already.

To demonstrate tigeraid´s point, here´s a video of Montoya at Mid-Ohio in 1999... not the same year but the car appears the same:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-lepapdGiw

The similarity of the mod´s driving dynamics is uncanny, everything looks and sounds spot-on.

I´m lapping regularly in the 05´s at this track with the baseline setup supplied with the mod, have seen people doing 04´s already. Then someone doing 11´s comes overshooting every corner and complaining there is no grip  Learn to drive and/or sort your wheel settings out before bitching about the mod... Or just stick with whatever you can actually drive.

These are supposed to be men´s machines and I sure hope the developers dont feel compelled to dumb it down. It is perfect as it is!!

I really don't understand why there's always one guy who has to drive the mod for a bit, suck at it, and proclaim the mod sucks.

Feel free to watch CART in the late 90s. I did, obsessively. It was on par with NASCAR in the late 90s for excitement and competitiveness. It was awesome.

The cars make nearly 900 horsepower, with a turbocharger. As such, the power band is peaky, with just a hint of lag. The tires are absolutely correct for this era of CART--even the soft tires last a fair bit... They take about 2 laps to really come in--before that, the car is very difficult to put the power down with, especially coming out of low-speed corners. The slip angle is perfectly right for this. Turn-in is immediate, mid-corner there's a bit of understeer (which you can tune out with springs and bars), and then you have to respect the throttle coming out of the corner. It's exactly what CART was all about.

Oh and the sounds and models are perfect. I only have two problems:

1. IMO, Target-Ganassi (or all the Hondas) ought to have a more significant bump in horsepower than 8. At least that's how it seemed when watching the season. :p

2. In above-cockpit view (hood cam on most other cars) the driver's figure randomly flickers and glitches out during driving. Because of my small screen I prefer to drive in this view, and it's a bit distracting. Hopefully it can be fixed in a patch later.

I would proclaim this mod in the upper echelon of open-wheel mods for rFactor. I'd place it on par with CTDP 2006, Formula Nippon, and even GP79.

I am always one to argue tire data when it comes to mods, just recently i've learned quite abit about tires through development of my own set for a mod.

I'm not sure how the tires could be called a joke?

Along with the C6 tires and ctdp's tires this mod has some of the nicest work dont on the tire data.

Is the data realistic in terms of what was provided to the old car teams? I have no idea.. and nobody will ever know.

Sounds - I am not sure they could get any better - These sound like the real thing, so much so its fairly scary. Having seen these cars go around the track many times at different venues all i can say is - RLD nailed it.

Physics - Again, the cars feel like I would expect them to. I have nearly complete seasons of CART from the mid 80's all the way up until 2000 - the footage and behaviour of this and idt's mod just seem spot on.

Great Job RLD - Do not let the ingrates and negative nancy's get to you.

This is the best mod for Rfactor for me.

Some mods will be fore other people their favorites also. It is totally acceptable and there is no need to bash mods. If they are not your cup of tea or if you dont like them, its pretty easy to hold your hands behind your back and not hit that reply button.

I am always one to argue tire data when it comes to mods, just recently i’ve learned quite abit about tires through development of my own set for a mod.

I’m not sure how the tires could be called a joke?

Along with the C6 tires and ctdp’s tires this mod has some of the nicest work dont on the tire data.

Is the data realistic in terms of what was provided to the old car teams? I have no idea.. and nobody will ever know.

Sounds – I am not sure they could get any better – These sound like the real thing, so much so its fairly scary. Having seen these cars go around the track many times at different venues all i can say is – RLD nailed it.

Pray do tell, what exactly is foolish about the tire´s slipcurves? For anyone who has actually done any research on the subject, they are absolutely reasonable, and indeed the tires provide excellent feedback in-game... Best Ive experienced in rFactor IMO.

Thats the problem with the Rfactor community, every lousy driver with crappy controllers feel entitled to scrutinize physics of mods they cant drive... I bet that developers who spent God knows how long researching the subject matter just love that kind of appreciation  Just go back to driving Meganes.

Shum94 you are a joke :D. Are you seriously questioning a mod that has been developed by people who have spent a lot of time learning vehicle dynamics and who have had help from racing teams, manufacturers, drivers and who have acquired immense amounts of data? And I think you will have a hard time finding a mod that looks better than this. The fact that you can't drive does not make the mod bad. The slip curve is not foolish, you are.

I dont get whats the fuss about this Mod. It sounds good yeah, ok but Epsilon sounds better (i mean there is better there).
Coz sounds is the high point of the mod for me.

It looks good but not great, and it got a weird feeling when you're in pack (maybe it looks not properly on the track)

Finally the physics, well i read realistic, hum if it ran like that in real it would had been funny to watch on tv, the guy who would win the race would have been the one who did not crashed.

Sorry but the slip curve of the tires are foolish.
