Bathurst Legends – Release Pushed Back

Posted on August 3rd, 2008 in

AUS-Modders have postponed the planned release of their Bathurst Legends mod for rFactor for one week to fix a late glitch. The team has posted the following statement at RSC:

“Sorry guys, you have my deepest apology for the delay on this mod. Believe me I did everything in my power to get this mod released on time after finding out we had a issue, but alas time and energy has failed me.

Therefore we have delayed it for a week to give us time to sort out the minor glitch. “

exactly why no modder should ever give any type of release date.

The only reason modders shouldn’t give release dates is because of all the whining, spoilt kids who expect this free stuff exactly on that date as if its owed to them.

Theres is absolutely nothing wrong with release dates. At least it stops all the ‘when, when when ?’ comments from the above-mentioned whining spoilt kids.
If a date isn’t met for whatever reason, no matter how valid, the biggest problem is that certain people have no understanding or room for latitude in their minds to let it be.
I mean how awful are people being who berate modders who don’t release on a date they thought they were going to.
You can be sure that the modder wanted it out on that date and if its not, all hell breaks loose.
The same thing is happening on rfc with the FSOne track pack.
People just whinging and moaning like they have some entitlement to it. Makes me sick.

Wait the week, accept their apology and deal with it like a mature adult.

    Easy does it.

That was easy. Its just that over the last couple of days Ive read so many posts from people whinging over modders release dates if they dont happen on time.
One minute people are screaming “When!!?” when theres no date, and when there is one and its missed by a small margin, people go ballistic. I just dont understand that attitude. Again it has to be repeated that modders do this in their own time for free and owe the public nothing. Quite the opposite in fact. Its the public that owe the modders – respect, thanks and a little bit of tolerance.

If i was a modder, i’d seriously think about not even telling the public about my mod until it was ready for release

Each to their own I guess. On the opposite side there’s also so many previews these days that there’s no surprises any more either.
I reckon the ideal is something in between. Keep something back and no specific dates.

Oh no! What a sad day. Well at least Heikki won today in F1.

Kudos to the modders. I’d rather have them admit there’s a flaw and take the time needed to fix it BEFORE release than just toss it to the public, creating the need for endless patches and fixes caught in public release that should have been detected and fixed in beta playtesting.

Paul, thats exactly what I think.
Modders do this great work for free in their own time and whilst it can be a little frustrating waiting for the next big mod to come out because we all want to have a go. But until it does there are plenty of others to keep us all amused.. and if that fails… theres always that “outside” things people go on about

  11. stabiz

Yes, I have heard about these outside things, but its just a myth.

lol stabiz. I’ve heard tell of such things as ‘books’, ‘culture’ and ’socialising’. Personally I think they are just old wives tales. Outside is a place where you go to buy food and earn some money to pay for our addiction.

But yeah, until these new mods come along, I’m quite content to drive HistorX (which I dont think well wear off for a looong time), FSOne07 and a few others.
Failing that if I dont want to drive I have a mid life Crysis, or FSX.
Waiting for the new mods is aching enough, but hanging on for Spore, Far Cry II the new Splinter Cell and ‘24′ Season 7 is too much :) Life seems to be just waiting and waiting then you die :)

And while I’m off topic, I want to add a lovely quote from the bald Manc tw*t himself Karl Pilkington (google him and listen to the XFM podcasts :D)…”Money is just something you have in case you don’t die tomorrow”. Genius.
