The Red Bull Formula One team has released a new video, showing Australian F1 driver Mark Webber on-board the team’s motion simulator, showing us a lap around the 2010 version of the Bahrain International Circuit, venue of 2010’s first F1 Grand Prix.
2010 will be the first year that the Formula One Grand Prix will be using the longer endurance layout of the track, the new variant was first used during the 2006 Bahrain 24 Hour race and includes nine new turns.
Like four other Formula One teams, Red Bull uses the Pro-version of rFactor for their simulator that is used for driver and crew training and other tasks.

Looks like a quite heavily reworked version of the CDTP track to me.

Nice modelling of Mark Webber, he looks real.

Track looks great. Would love to see that much detail in the public version.

Sorry but I have some doubts (ok, I don’t believe it at all) that Red Bull is using rFactor Pro for their simulator.
Maybe for a public one (promotional purpose) but not for the pilots.
I don’t know how you can even believe it.

Coz its true.

They wouldn’t need rFactor Pro for a promotional simulator, any regular old version would be fine for that. As I recall, there’s a good interview/article about rFactor Pro in an issue of AutoSimSport (I think three issues ago–I believe you can search for it through the website), that’s worth a read.

I also seriously doubt that rFactor Pro is what they use for their serious simulation. It’s been brought up before that other teams such as Williams used it, and a Williams employee on the iRacing forums said that was not the case at all.

true. i doubt teams would use rfactor pro. ferrari recently completed a multi million dollar simulator. mclaren has been known to have the best one in f1.

But that doesn’t make sense at all.
Sorry but how the hell could they use rFactor to validate aero changes ?
Because this is what they do. I’m not sure rFactor is able to give some valid informations on this kind of things.
And do you really believe that a serious simulation would be able to run on a regular PC ??
I’m sure the tire model of a real F1 simulator by himself would use a lot more power than a regular PC.
Formula 1 team using rFactor is just an “urban legend”…

Maybe only use the graphics engine… Someone read the characteristics of rFactor Pro?
http://www.rfactor-pro.com/Features.aspx
And don´t use a regular PC, instead it works with a cluster, read the site, there are a lot of information about the rF-Pro…

You’re both right. The serious simulators do cost millions and they compile huge amounts of data and output various graphs.
But those virtual reality aids do look very gMotor-ish don’t they?

from the man himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phJDlm4jXuY#t=130 That is a lap around a Booooring circuit!
if they use “off the shelf simulator”, then they obviously do not have any advantages over other teams, who have a purpose built sim.
Anyways, I would love to hear more details about rF pro

The half of the F1 grid is using Rfactor Pro.

Some F1 teams use rF-Pro, believe it or not.
Being rF-Pro the base, to turn it into each team’s own simulator might be costly indeed. Building the models of car and tracks, creating physics sounds, etc. is a time consuming thing. Apart of that, consider that everything which goes with F1 is going to be costly, just because you’re dealing with F1.
So you can expect to find these rF-pro customized versions costing a good amount of money :)

LOL!!!!
Apart of this nice joke….
For exceptics rfactor pro team supports f1 teams with specific developements. So that is not just to install a gmotor it’s much more.
See you!

Do we have this version in Rfactor?
“2006 Bahrain 24 Hour race” version from CTDP is different than the track Webber uses.
With CTDP “2006 Bahrain 24 Hour race” is about 5,4 km. Here in the video, track is longer: 6,3 km

rFactor != rFactor Pro
You guys seriously need to read up on rF Pro. AutSimSport had a very good article about it.

Ok ok…
Did my homework :)
So rFactor Pro is like a graphic renderer. It’s up to the teams to model all their stuff (tire, aero, …) and to provide the tracks.
So it makes more sense, they doesn’t use at all the rFactor models.
Very clever from rFactor, I’m sure some kids are thinking the contrary…

Another interesting fact about rF Pro is it was created by Chris Hoyle (Kangaloosh!) the creator of carFactory and RealFeel. Chris sounds like a very smart highly motivated guy.

They aren’t using rfactor. It’s rfactor-pro. Very different.
AIUI they can plug in their own physics.
But bear in mind they aren’t using it to design their car or fix aero etc. They’ll have different simulations and computer software for that (as well as wind tunnels etc)
They test in the real-world too, obviously.
As the article says, it’s a driver training tool.
