The second AutoSimSport magazine issue of the year 2009 is now available, once again being packed with in-depth stories about everyone’s favorite hobby.
Highlights of this issue include a Supercar Challenge preview by Jon Denton and an interview with iRacing’s Dave Kammer on the first year of their online simulation.
Furthermore, the guys have sat down with ISI’s Gjon Camaj to talk about rFactor 2 and ISI’s upcoming Superleague Formula title.
Other interesting stories in this issue:
- Andy Lurling talks about iOpener’s Real-Time Racing
- Reviews of Team_ARC’s Logitech G25-E and Volvo – The Game
Plus lots of other sim racing stuff you don’t want to miss out on. Also, a competition gives you the chance to win a beta-code preview of Supercar Challenge.

Its a great issue – well worth downloading and reading.
Sim Racing “news” is really well covered now. We have this site for up to the minute news, SRT for more in-depth features and reviews and ASS for even more in-depth and perhaps less mainstream stuff like the like developer interviews and the review of the GP4 mod.

Wow, there is an excellent article for VGP3 on p.112. It includes a lot of info for the upcoming FF2009 mod and the new v0.8 of the simulation.
This new version will feature a complete KERS hybrid simulation and J-Dampers. Simply impressive!
Here is a video, from the author of the article, demonstrating the excellent AI in VGP3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTnocF93IiM&hd=1

A few technical difficulties. Trouble with running a site that sees relatively little traffic most of the time and then is all of a sudden hammered on release day.
You’ll get through if you keep trying, try not to just continuously reload though. Give it a bit between attempts. We’re working to get it sorted.
In the meantime, you can access the online readable version here:

Sadly there isn’t much new info about rF2. 10-sentence questions with 1-sentence answers.

Well the question i wanted to see with an answer was When, when when when ? LOL
I was thinking September like rF1 before this interview but it seems like there is a lot to do left.
Maybe december then, although i wouldnt be against rF2 in september followed by updates later on.
One thing learned from this interview, it seems we wont see real time damaged / alteration on the tires.

I thought ISI had confirmed elsewhere that rF2 won’t be out this year. And if you think back to rF1, by August we’d missed at least one release date and pre-orders had been made. We’ve had no release date for rF2 yet missed or otherwise and no pre-orders.

Gjon said they had work for the full year, that doesnt mean rF2 is for 2010.
It can be for December or September with patches later on.
The questions i wanted to see to were, is rF1 will get a 1300 exe
It would be nice to have the lobby refreshed, right now you cant see a server sessions and the chat at the same time, and it needs a refresh when you jump to one from another.
What are the improvments in the sounds department ?
Will rFactor 2 will be as conservative as rF1 on the minimum specs
We are on PC, 4 GB should be the minimum target, so is the 4850 from ATI
I wanna see rF2 taking down my computer ffs !!

Every time I read or see an interview with Gjon Camaj about rFactor 2, it seems he enjoys it about as much as having his balls dragged through broken glass. I understand the need to keep proprietary secrets, but why does Gjon seem so uncomfortable in dealing with the very press that helps promote his products?

I liked Gjon’s responses. Very understated yes, but the dry humour appeals to me. I think part of the problem was that the answer to most questions was “No this won’t be in rF2″ rather than “No I can’t tell you”.
My favourite quotes
ASS – Is any co-operation taking place with Brendon Pywell in order to allow Bobs Track Builder to be of the most use to track makers straight off the bat?
Gjon – We are still co-operating with ourselves to get our tools to work …
ASS – Will this (i.e. Superleague formula) delay the production of rF2?
Gjon – No, rF2 can delay itself just fine.
He sounds pretty relaxed to me. But I agree if you want to sell a new sim, Ian Bell is probably a better bet :)
