Assetto Corsa – Technology Preview Coming Up

The long-awaited technology preview demo of Kunos Simulazioni’s Assetto Corsa title is right around the corner, judging by the latest tweets of Kunos Stefano Casillo.

Stefano has referred to building the demo as “cooking” before so one of his latest tweets sounds very encouraging:

The wait isn’t completely over though as Kunos is currently busy setting up the Assetto Corsa website for the release:

The demo will include one car and one track, all owners of Kunos’ netKar Pro title will be invited to give this first version of Assetto Corsa a try.

To make it easy for everyone not owning netKar Pro yet, Kunos is selling their long-running title for just 4,99€ until March 1st – Click Here for more info.

Assetto Corsa will be powered by a brand new DirectX 11 graphics engine and will come with advanced features such as blur & DOF. The title will offer extensive modding support as well as ten laser-scanned tracks and fully licensed cars as well as AI – A first for a Kunos title.

Assetto Corsa will be available in Q1 2013, the title will feature licensed cars from manufacturers such as Ferrari, BMW & Lotus. Assetto Corsa is set to be released in Q1 2013.

You can freeze it to preserve it ;)

    • Alejandro Gorgal

Yeah…I dont think soup analogies really apply to game development, and I rather wait a bit more to get a polished release than not being able to download the build at all due to messy servers and then having to see Kunos take the blame and have that affect them in a negative way.

I mean, I get it, we all want this game asap, but that’s no reason to be childish about it.

  • Matt Orr

Hmm. Great news for sure! Got my new wheel last week, pedals fixed yesterday, just so happen to have the week off. Would be really nice timing this week Kunos! ;)

  • gt3rsr

LOL netKar Pro for 5 euros. Everyone buy this because this is a STEAL. (it was a steal even before when i bought it for 15…). Then download Culmone’s Imola and take the Vintage GT for a BLAST of a ride (while waiting for AC of course).

Imola is not Culmone’s track. The project started in collaboration with Culmone, but then he decided to go somewhere else.
Imola is 100% done on 3d and textures by Mauro Delega’, Radiator Springs Racing team.

You can download it on our website. radiators-champ.com

and a beautiful track it is too.

      • gt3rsr

OK, sorry, I didn’t know that. I just know that Culmone was involved in the project at the beginning and he is one of the more prominent persons in simracing, so I mentioned him. I didn’t want to diminish anyone’s deservings :-)

Anyone still complaining about having to buy netKar Pro to get a taste of AC should be kicked in the b*tt :-D

    • mhth

Whatever….. It’s not the money but the BS that they expect ppl to buy their old game in order to try their new game demo wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With business practices like that maybe I’ll avoid them altogether. W

      • Anonymous

It’s not a demo. It’s a tech preview and it’s available as the first public look at the game as a Thank You to the people who bought netKar Pro. Didn’t buy netKar Pro? No Thank You to you. You can wait until the demo comes out, then.

I don’t know any avid sim racers that don’t own netKar Pro though.

      • David Wright

“I don’t know any avid sim-racers that don’t own netKar Pro though.”

Is this why this game is/was so popular on-line? ;)

Seriously, it looks like Kunos has learned from his netKar Pro mistakes and AC will hopefully be much more popular.

      • Anonymous

The net code wasn’t great nor is it a very recent game. It’s still a must-own for avid sim racers. ~wink~

      • http://twitter.com/XNSigma XN

Not sure if clueless or… This “TECHNOLOGY PREVIEW” is aimed to be a benchmark of AC, nothing more than that, and it’s an early gift for people who support Kunos, the real ***DEMO*** will come later for everyone for free. Capiche?
But it’s ok, you can stay out of the party if you want, nobody will miss you. :)

      • Anonymous

Bye bye then.. btw I bought NKPro for 16 euro few years ago now you can buy it for 4,99 until March 1st .. that’s a BIG discount.

      • Anonymous

Wow dude, it’s not a demo….how clueless are you? Are you expecting things to be handed down to you as you please? It’s a technical preview, something for people who have supported these developers. Please stop expecting things to be given out. It’s NOT A DEMO. Please read and understand that. I think you SHOULD avoid this. People like you ruin communities and undervalue the amount of time and effort the developers have put into projects. Please go take you whining somewhere else. It is not appreciated here.

      • mhth

Technical preview “demo” 1 track 1 car must own or buy in order to try. Sorry Not interested! My point, how clueless are you?

What exactly is this comment supposed to mean?

        Am I missing something?

I do seem to get the feeling you are not a fan of iRacing though, lol.

      • WaitingForAC

I was being sarcastic, his post was so ridiculous so I was insinuating he was an iRacing staffer for fun.

I don’t hate iRacing, why would I want them to fail? I am knee deep in content that I pray one day is up to the standard we were told it was/should be.

I am however going to call them on their BS to counteract the people who I am not convinced dont have a stake in the place (more than membership and content) who post here on a regular basis. Those people are on a mission to prove to everyone that they werent duped about iRacing, or they are so blided by fanboyism they cant see the many flaws

You know who I am talking about, they make a career posting here and on Racedepartment.

i was a little saddened when it was at 15 euros, but at 5 it’s a no brainer. I’m back to happy mode again, and will happily buy NKP at this price just to add it to my collection.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mazda.mps.1 Mazda Mps

I downloaded nKp last night and was impressed with the way it felt. The Fiat was a bit odd with virtually 90 degrees to full lock and it wouldn’t let me adjust FOV. But these are silly little things, I’m very excited to drive the Elise soon. :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=562060798 Timpie Claessens

Ye FOV is a bit awkward in Nkp, you have to change that per car setup :P

      • http://www.facebook.com/mazda.mps.1 Mazda Mps

As I was adjusting it the screen didn’t change at all. I’m running 5760×1080, I wonder if that’s something to do with it?

      • Anonymous

oh no, can’t it be adjusted for triples?

      • steve27

I bought this as well yesterday as it was a steal :)

I run NV surround & also had FOV issue where it doesn’t do anything, with a Google search i found a fix by Kegetys @ race2play website Hope this is ok to post
        http://www.race2play.com/homepage/show_posts/22316
I tried it and it works :)
        Here’s the readme
        ——————————————–
Triplehead FOV fix for Netkar Pro v1.3 final
        by Kegetys, http://www.kegetys.net
        ——————————————–

Fixes the triplehead FOV that became even
more broken in NetKar Pro v1.3 final.

Extract to the NKPRO directory. Edit fov.txt
to set a FOV multiplier. In-game use ‘page up’
and ‘page down’ to adjust FOV in real time.
Make sure you have write access to the fov.txt
for the ingame adjust to be saved.

        Also enables anisotropic texture filtering
instead of the awful negative LOD bias the game
uses by default. Edit af.txt to change it
        (0 = disabled)

        ——————————————–

      • http://www.facebook.com/mazda.mps.1 Mazda Mps

        Thankyou very much.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=562060798 Timpie Claessens

Yes you’re right I remember. I think the most correct one for triple screens was the absolute minimum fov you could choose ingame.

    • daz

      Nice contradiction.

I downloaded nKp last night and was impressed with the way it felt.

      followed by…

As anyone had a real good look at the screen shot posted on that site?
I’m wondering what their PC spec’s are, because the frames per second don’t seem to go higher than 20fps, and the Tec preview only features one vehicle & one track.

That was something i was wondering too.
Framerates of sub 20, that’s not racing, that’s almost rendering.
Hopefully it was a low spec pc where they made the screenshots with.

With al the previous statements in mmd I wont excite this time. It probably wil be released at about 3 or 4 weeks. And we then we wil have to waait untill Q3 for the release of the full sim. Still not regretting refunding my iRacing account.

January 18 2013: Kunos Simulazioni has posted an update on the Assetto Corsa Technology Preview.

NOT A WORD ABOUT NEEDING NKP LICENCE

        It even says

“In the absence of any serious issues, we may be able to close off ***a public build*** within a short time period.”

Disingenuous at the least not to make it clear in Press Release.

Anyway – no biggie. Don’t get your little panties in a twist about it.

      • Anonymous

“It’s our plan to release a “technology preview”, that will consist in a playable benchmark demo, nothing more: one car and one track.

…..we need to test it with as many configurations as possible before releasing the game.”
        —-

Well, you don’t achieve that by having a qualifying condition of owning a previous release.

It’s up to them what they do, but let’s not pretend this isn’t a pretty obvious and exploitative way of leveraging income out of a hungry audience – by shifting units of a game that is obsolete to get a taste of what is making it obsolete.

They want feedback – and you have to pay them to give it! Well, you work for them (and pay for the pleasure) if you want.

        I won’t.

      • http://twitter.com/Olaraitraitrai Ramalho

WOW You must sit down and think about this….

Did you pay anything for this “Technology Preview”? Why are you complaining, that’s what I don’t understand!!

Since July or August there as been a rumour about this TD and always refered as a closed version for netkar users.

They also explain why they are going to do it only for netkar users, justifying that the netkar users are already familiarized with the major problems they get from netkar experience, so the feedback will be more precise and less “spontaneous” (like “bahh.. this game suck, I can’t even start my car, where is the button to turn the car ON… bahh”).

That was also a form that KS team find to say “Thank You” to previous owners.

They even get the price down to a ridiculous 5 € to allow more people to support them and try their new WORK, yes its work done by some people don’t forget that….. I guess you like to be paid after you doing your job… right? I do!

This is NOT A DEMO this is a Technology Preview.

Their will be a DEMO for free for everyone!

      • Anonymous

        Yes, all well and good.

But clearly you don’t recognise the downside. You don’t recognise any downside to it.

They want $5 for a tech test.

If they want feedback, why should people pay for the privilege?

If they want feedback and exposure, why limit it thus?

It doesn’t make sense – except for those 5 dollars, of course. But even then, will that $5 revenue make-up for the loss in goodwill from limiting access in such cynical fashion? I think it’s a bad and dumb move.

Rather open it up – have confidence it will blow people away and make its own publicity. And gets loads of feedback – including from people who DO NOT have NKP, have no experience of Kunos products, no experience of driving games, whatever. I think it’s dumb to miss out on all that feedback tbh. Companies and Institutions pay a lot of money to get the sort of feedback Kunos are squandering – and for the sake of $5 a pop.

They must need the dough, I guess, but I think it’s a bad decision – and one that has been kept pretty quiet.

Speaking personally, Kunos has lost some of my goodwill. I doubt I am the only one……

      • http://twitter.com/Olaraitraitrai Ramalho

There are 11 PEOPLE working on this ENTIRE project…..

“Yeah… they are really trying to take the money from us….

Oh no… wait we are buying a game for 5€ and we get the bonus of a Technology Preview of their new project…..

Bahh… they are definitely stealing something from us….”

Don’t take it so seriously, this guys are just supporting our hobby… let’s support them, ok!?? ;)

      • Anonymous

Note my link again, they’re intending to test the license activation system as well. Using prior nKP licenses lets them do that.

They gave everyone a $10 discount on their old game who wanted it, and only those too impatient to wait for the demo NEED to pay it. It must be hard to be this negative.

      • Anonymous

Publishing a whole bunch of free licences for the tech demo would better test their system. That’s really no excuse.

I’m not being especially negative – just saying this could (and should) be handled better.

Doing it this way they will inevitably alienate part of their target audience. That’s a cost to goodwill which offsets any extra revenue they might raise from making NKP ownership a condition of trying the tech demo.

Am I more or less inclined towards AC now? Less. No big deal to me – it’s not my business.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=562060798 Timpie Claessens

Dno look for it, you seem to be the only one who doesn’t know about it so I seriously doubt we’re all making it up.

      • Anonymous

Aye, fair enough. Whilst they will surely raise some income they will lose a lot of feedback which would have come-in from non-owners of NKP.

They’re allowed to do what they want, of course. Speaking personally though, stunts like this put me off developers. It’s one car, one track – and they wanted feedback. Well, they won’t get so much feedback now and they’ve excluded a pile of people. Bad choice imo – but la dee dah. No biggie.

But what was the point of this? To get feedback, or generate revenue from an obsolete title? Revenue.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=562060798 Timpie Claessens

Is someone holding a gun to your head? Again, if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, if you don’t feel like supporting a little indie dev who’s trying to bring out possibly the new next gen sim, well… Don’t do it and wait for the demo or full game. I really don’t see why you have such issues with this.
I’m willing to bet that 80% of simracers most likely already had the game anyway so for most of us it’s just the case of waiting for the links. If they can create extra revenue for themselves to get perhaps another licence, perhaps get another track, I can only say do your best Kunos.

      • Anonymous

Wrong! I had never heard of this supposed rumor. You guys (incl Ramalho, Michael H) need to drop the fanboy attitudes, it is really tiring to read. So, if they wanted people familiar with NKPro, why can I go buy it now and try the demo? Defeats that purpose. Also, why would I want to now go buy NKPro so that it can sit on the shelf uninstalled? I have other sims I am currently driving, don’t have the bandwidth (or the desire with AC on the way) to add NKPro to my arsenal.

No, it isn’t a big deal, but like was said, “leaves a bad taste in my mouth.” the fanboys are the ones that decided to elevate it to being a major coup, or the like.

A the part that really gets me….they released a ‘tech preview’ to the people that are already in line to buy it. They should be reaching out to those that don’t have experience with NKPro. After all, just about everyone thinks that AC will be the top dog based on their experience with NKPro. If they are trying to flush out issues, I would call that a closed Beta, not a preview.

Clever marketing of a dead product and at the same time enabling hyping of a new one. Myself, I would not want to put my name on such a marketing scheme in any possible way or form. If being totally honest it makes me physically sick.

It makes you physically sick that a developer would give first taste of new product to the customers that helped make said product possible…I would love to know what the doctor would call that ailment and is it terminal?

You’re not complaining about their marketing scheme, you’re complaining about having to wait. Life isn’t fair dude, grow up. They’re going to release a proper demo in a few months for all the “sim racers” that somehow don’t own nKp. You can wait instead of whining about missing out on one car and one track.
Also, they didn’t at all have to lower the price of nKp, most dev’s would’ve just left it at 15 euros, but they wanted to make it easy on everyone. Kunos has always been a very reasonable developer that cares about it’s community, apparently you’re not apart of that community but you expect them to care about you? ridiculous.
It’s pathetic that people like you live in your own little world, and complain when things don’t go your way.

“apparently you’re not a part of that community but you expect them to care about you?”

Then your community can never grow.

New customers are often offered inducements ie deals better than those for existing customers. Not worse.

Of course Kunos can do what they like, but similarly, nobody need applaud.

5 EUR for Netkar Pro is crazy!!

I only drove some early beta version years ago and bought it for 15 EUR 3 days ago. WOW!!

Netkar PRO has THE BEST tire model and physics I’ve ever driven!! The FFeedback is excellent as well, in some areas even better than rF2 (who IMO is/was best) and some slightly below!

The chasie balance and grip is so progressive and dynamic in ways ive only felt IRL! You can get into those slight slides with the rear tires when the suspension geometry sets in and keeps a slight drift when just over the limit to then transition into more “normal” oversteer if you push it more… The 1800 Formula car is the most progressive and realistic handling sim car ive driven, and im not even into Formula cars that much…

If AC has NetKarPRO physics, tiremodel and FF (no changes needed) with updated visuals (which we have seen), the officially licensed cars (which we know) and the known included tracks (which we know) and the modding capability (stated + nkPRO weakest link) + AI for offline racing its the best sim ever, easily…

If anyone wants to know how impatient and whiny the sim racing community can be, they just need to look at some of the comments here.

Lighten up guys, there will be a free demo soon enough.

And how credulous and hyped……the sim racing community can be
      ;)

Glad to this being released but I’l happily wait for the demo, have no desire to buy NkPro.

Plenty of other software to race in the meantime but I think AC will be my sim of choice when its out.

Wow, wasn’t expecting THAT! Guess that FVA association is really working out for Kunos.
