Assetto Corsa Starts Modding Support

Ever since Kunos Simulazioni first announced Assetto Corsa, extensive support for community content & mods has always been high up the agenda for the new title.

Many modding teams are putting their hopes into the still to be released title and it seems like their hopes won’t be disappointed as Kunos is already reaching out to the modding community way before the title’s release.

The following invitation was posted in the RaceDepartment forums as Kunos invites interested modders to get in touch with their 3D artist:

Our 3D vehicle lead artist has some free time (?) during the day and is dedicating this to you.
He hates writing on forums, emails, pms etc, so I will give you his skype handle and you are free to contact him for voice chat, whenever you want.

IMPORTANT
I really really ask you kindly to get organised, gather multiple relevant questions and ask them once at a time, here’s a proposal on how to do this:
- Discuss your doubts, problems and projects here in the forums.
- Gather your questions.
- Decide which one of you will talk directly with Luca
- Call him on Skype for a voice chat and have fun
- Repeat and don’t be afraid if he can’t always reply. The actual game comes always first of course.

Also, Luca will reply as many of your questions as possible, except the ones that can’t reply because of NDA, Licensing, or other professionally related reasons. I hope you understand.

Here you go, take it easy!
Luca skype handle: lucamir
skype nickname: mannaggia!

For more info, check out the thread at Racedepartment here.

Assetto Corsa will be powered by a brand new DirectX 11 graphics engine and will come with advanced features such as blur & DOF. The title will offer extensive modding support as well as ten laser-scanned tracks and fully licensed cars as well as AI – A first for a Kunos title.

Assetto Corsa will be available in Q1 2013, the title will feature licensed cars from manufacturers such as Ferrari, BMW & Lotus. Assetto Corsa is set to be released in Q1 2013, a first “technology preview” demo is due to be out in a few weeks.

Excellent point! AHAHAAA!! Very GOOD THEN!! Kunos!!

    Amazing !
First SMS with the WMD concept, now Kunos with close community support…
Soon we won’t need the capitalists for our simracing “needs” ;)

and finally, after having to put up with the dictatorship like control the gmotor engine has had on simracing, with all its many Many faults.
We FINALLY have a successor. FINALLY. One with physics which as we know from netkar pro, has the best physics engine out there.
One with better graphics. Better menu system.
    Better content. Better everything.

Made by people who are genuine enthusiasts, who clearly love what they do, like to have a laugh, and DRIVE. ACtually DRIVE the cars to get an idea for themselves. They are based at a race track. That gives you an idea of who Kunos is and what makes them tick.

Assetto Corsa – the saviour of driving games.

Dude, you clearly had some nightmares with ISI in the past. Ofc AC will be good, but no need to keep talking trash about ISI. I enjoy playing GSC2012, rF2, HistorX, etc etc. But I enjoy playing netKar Pro too and sometimes iRacing because of their online system (SR, IR). Competition is always good.

  • GamerMuscle

IT looks to me like AC is going to be the RBR of track racing , Its likely it wont sell as many copies as Pcars or have as larger user base as something like R3E , But at the end of the day it will probably have the most realistic physics by far , Just hope the licenses will get the product the exposure NKP deserved but never got.

Its going to be interesting which simulator gets the most bruises with AC and RF2 both seemingly vying for that community spot , as the number one Mod and pro racing simulator.

  • MarcG

amazing you can say that even though you’ve have’nt touched AC yet, how do you know this modding aspect wont come with many many faults? how do you know the physics will be like or the same as netkar pro?

Some peoples (generalising here!) expectations are amazingly high for this Sim, I just hope it lives upto what you all want!

  • Big Ron

    Obvious Assetto Corsa- overhype- syndrome

  • speed1

Apart from the part of ISI’s gmotor engine and his faults, i’m going to like your great dream and your optimism.

  • wajdi nujeidat

My goddess, U are such a fan…..! let’s wait until AC come out then you can make that statement in your post above!

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Yep. Amazing how people know how good the menu system will be or how the content will compare before it even comes out.

  • http://www.bsimracing.com/ Wim

amen! Lets enjoy the world of plenty.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

    Eeeeexactly

  • Anonymous

People seems to be emphasizing the point of having to choose between AC and rF2.

One can actually buy and enjoy both, it’s not like one is holding a knife against you and forcing you to choose between one and the other.

Also it’s better to judge AC when we can actually play it, it will be a much fairer judgement. Videos and screenshots might tell something about the graphics and sounds but they tell almost nothing about feel and durability in my experience.

Saying that I look forward to own both rF2 and AC :)

  • GamerMuscle

In reality the leagues and moders will probably pick one over the other.

Though granted I’m sure both will chug along regardless of who likes what and which is better or worse.

“a first “technology preview” demo is due to be out in a few weeks” ….few weeks means less than one month right?

I can model and texture, I did that for fps but I don’t know how to so it for racing Sims.
Anyone in my same situation? Maybe we can help each other

  • http://twitter.com/_Jagdstaffel11_ ___ ɥqp ___

Dont think ISI are in this to compete with anybody. Theres room for any quality sim in my collection.

    You’d assume so.

  • somebody somebody

um..there has already been quite of few youtube videos showing the menu navigation

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Is that a fact? I hope they were detailed video’s so we can know for absolute sure without any doubt how superior they are.
I still find it strange about how many predictions are being made on a game that hasn’t been released yet. They may not be wrong but there are no certainties here.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, that’s just PR to say the poor guy will have to work later to help you out ;)

  • http://twitter.com/StarFoXySxv550 StarFoXySxv550

I can’t help I don’t know the first thing about making mods, but I suggest looking for an established modding team and seeing if they need help, I’m sure you’ll have qualities that will be useful to them, and at the same time they’ll be able show you how things work in this genre.
Good luck man, and welcome. Good to see people taking an interest.

I own all the major titles and I wil buy this one too. Not a fanboy of one of them. Just a fanboy of every sim!

  • Mrslfrsl

Honestly, I think iRacing is more worried about AC. rF2′s crowd plays any good sim anyways. I own them all and looking forward to the release but I am slowly getting anoyed by all this marketing things. The same with iRacing, just don’t like this marketing hype thingy. However, this is just my personal opinion.

ROFLMAO, yeah I don’t miss my days of development slavery ;)

  • Kendra Jacobs

“We FINALLY have a successor. FINALLY. One with physics which as we
know from netkar pro, has the best physics engine out there.”

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm……………………..thats why AC is based on a completely scratch made tyre model and overall physics model, made completely from scratch, because the NK Pro one was much too flawed?? Maybe you didnt know about that part because you are too busy drooling over your computer screen.

God damn, the fanboys on this site remind me of the 12 year olds I dealt with when I was involved in the Battlefield 3 Beta.

AC will be awesome, no doubt, but dont praise a game just because you saw 4 videos on it, and dont especially praise one due to its previous title’s engine when the new one is using a completely different engine made brand new from scratch.

    These 12 year olds lol

Any true sim racing fan will own AC and RF2, and Reiza stuff (and possibly
RRRE and PCars as well, and iracing if you can afford it), and also RBR
    if you are into rally.

This is not a war of who can be the best product. This is not a war about only being allowed to purchase one product.

  • Kendra Jacobs

Exactly, get all the sims. They all have their +s and -s as no physics model is perfect in every, or any, area.

  • Kendra Jacobs

I agree, I think maybe the best physics, but not by far.

The fact that IRacing are always, always updating their physics, the fact that RF2 still has a long way to go, is still in pretty much alpha phase, and has been improved in physics engine and tyre model even further in b146, and it will just keep getting better, then on top of this when Reiza releases future products based on newer engines (maybe on a future matured RF2 engine???). With all that, maybe can still have the best physics, but no way in hell can it have the best physics “by far”.

  • Kendra Jacobs

ya RFactor 2 + Assetto Corsa = WIN WIN

  • Kendra Jacobs

and sippin on a coffee (esspresso)

  • Kendra Jacobs

Exactly, never be a fanboy. Play all the top sims. None are perfect, all have their + and – areas in their physics/tyre models.

  • Big Ron

Are you sure everything is from scratch? I thought only the graphics engine is brand new and the physics are “based” on NetKar Pro and developed further.

  • http://www.bsimracing.com/ Wim

Great news. The questions should be turned into podcasts. That way we could all benefit from individual questions.

  • GamerMuscle

    http://youtu.be/m35edoY9RM4?t=8s

I think people are making predictions based on the fact that NKP is by far the best simulator when it comes to raw racing on the limit and FFB for what the mass of the car is doing.

  • David Wright

If you are worried about fragmentation I’d suggest mods are a far bigger issue than DLC. I don’t see AC as the game NKP was meant to be but rather the result of lessons learned from the failure of NKP i.e. quite a different product.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Thanks for the video. Interface looks pretty but until I try it I won’t know how clumsy or not it is.

Yeah the supposed superiority of AC is totally based on NKPro. Lets see how that turns out. I think it’s chances are good but until I actually play it, I am making no judgements on it.

The DLC angle should be interesting as will be the modding side. Will it be as open as rFactor ? How easy will if be if a modder wants to make his mod for both AC and rF1 or 2

  • GamerMuscle

I agree , I just meant in terms of success , NKP never really seemed to take off with its user numbers despite being one of the best if not the best simulator for raw car handling and FFB.

I also agree about the fragmentation coming from mods , with NKP mods were not an issue due to how radiator springs worked , but then there were only really 2 or so cars and then 10 or so tracks. Can imagine it might be quite problematic unless there is a creative solution in place.

RF2 is already a total mess with its mod system and trying to join servers. The same issues also arose with ARMA 2 just a total mess with mods making public multilayer a nightmare.

  • http://www.charmedproductions.com/ kizza42

I try to buy any racing sim that comes out of these indy developers, Regardless if its the greatest thing ever or not. Even if I wont race it, it atleast means their will still be a market/competition in the future.

  • http://twitter.com/TheRoggan Roger

I just realized that AC will be running on my PC in less than 7 weeks!

Tech demo cant be more than a few weeks away :-)

Until then I’m really enjoying rF2 (TopGear Track, Vette C6 R and the Lola) and Race Room! pCars is stepping it up slowly but steadily, the new road cars are pretty good! And the occasional rFactor HistorX and DRM to get my Nurburgring fix :-)

  • Anonymous

Seems like we’ve been hearing a few weeks for over a month now. I don’t see how they can get a tech preview, a demo and the end result within Q1 2013.

  • nameless

People are confident on AC because as Kunos claimed, its the evolution of nkpro physics. Any sim enthusiast would be crazy to hear that. Rf2 is building up good as well.

I believe won’t be any other sim to match their quality. GTR 3 could, but I don’t even know if it still exists (or if ever).

  • nameless

Some “sims” out there don’t even stand a chance near gmotor2′ physics, even tho is a 7 year old engine.

With rf2 and AC, might be the time to ditch gmotor2 once and for all, but not without respect and fairness it deserves for its accomplishments.

  • Anonymous

buy AC but don’t come in bragging about something you have not even tried its pathetic how ppl can do this. bag out 1 they have more than 1 they haven’t.
    GROW UP

  • http://www.facebook.com/nicolas.grignon Nicolas Grignon

maybe… but if AC is all that is supposed to be (great physics (and FFB?), great graphics, great open moding), it will seriously affect a lot rfactor2 (and other sims as well)… you may own them all but if one is clearly better, you will pass a lot more time on it….

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

I hope there are no dwarves reading this. :)

  • Anonymous

Ofcourse that is bound to happen. I have spent more time in rFactor than in Race07 and GTR and GTR2 combined. But I still bought all four and I enjoyed them all with their attributes and flaws :)

  • Kendra Jacobs

Tyre model, and overall physics engine brand new, not from NK Pro.
