Assetto Corsa – New In-Game Previews

Kunos Simulazioni have released a bunch of new in-game previews of their all-new Assetto Corsa title that is due to be released in 2012.

The previews show off the Fiat Abarth 500 on track, allowing us to check out several graphic details such as grass, trackside buildings & different lighting conditions.

Asetto Corsa will be powered by a brand new DirectX 11 graphics engine and will come with advanced features such as blur & DOF. The title will offer extensive modding support as well as laser-scanned tracks and fully licensed cars as well as AI – A first for a Kunos title.

Reminds me a lot of Forza 3, though that might partly be the Fiat Abarth…

    Bye pCARS.
    Welcome Assetto Corsa!

Does this mean Netkar is finished and won’t have more cars ?

There will be a Lambo for nKPro done by modders.

  • Ricoo

It could have reminded you of nKPro too…if you had bought this great sim.

    Because pCARS s*cks!

The same will happen here if you keep this attitude up…

    Nope.

    full of complexes  amateurs.

Come on… Now you are being childish…

It’s ok if you don’t like it… I tried it myself and I didn’t like it that much too, but it’s a good effort taking in account the Shift series… And from what I’ve seen from Assetto Corsa, it has beautiful graphics too (pCars nails that area…), but physics wise… Well, Assetto has an excelent background! netKar pro! :D

    Just… behave, man!

  • http://www.facebook.com/andreduartepatricio André Patrício

Those time of day colors are absolutely gorgeous! :D

  • Michael Gribble

At least as far as graphics goes….

For me, rFactor 2 is better than pCARS.  Unless they can step it up in the handling/force feedback department, I’ll stick with rFactor 2.

Now, I have never played nKPro, but from the sounds of it, Assetto will be the main competition for rFactor 2.

And as I have stated before, I cannot run pCARS on max settings (and from the looks of it, I will not be able to run Assetto on max either) so for me, the way the game looks is last on the list.

I mean, the new shaders remind me of Forza’s.

When I tried nKP, it sure didn’t look like this.

  • Luke Russell

Anyone notice that there are no rubber marks on the surface of the track? I’m thinking A.C may well have a dynamic surface model because of this.

  • General Rush Hour

I´ts like iRacing but with next gen graphics!

    Rfactor who?
    CARS who?

    iRacing who?

Assetto Corsa – simply the best.

  • Ricoo
  • Luke Russell

iRacing will still have the best competitive scene because of the infrastructure it has, I really hope A.C follows suit. Only then can you say goodbye to iRacing, at least on the road side because nothing will ever come close to trumping iRacing on the oval side; they have a championship sponsored by NASCAR!

  • http://twitter.com/rs_mircea MirceaRad

Of course they will step it up in handling/FFB, it’s in development, geez… The progress is impressive from build to build.

  • Michael Gribble

I’m saying that they won’t, but for me, the biggest factor in deciding which sim to play is how it feels and not what it looks like.  I just don’t like to make assumptions that they will improve it in a way that I will like.

And I fully admit that I am a bit pessimistic when it comes to video games.  I have very specific things that I look for, especially when it comes to racing games, and so far, rFactor 2 is on the top of my list.  But that doesn’t mean it won’t change 6 months from now.

  • Anonymous

It may be the truth in YOUR opinion, but it clearly isn’t in everyones.  Your opinions are not facts.
It’s got nothing to do with complexes and the only amateur I’m seeing is you from the content of your posts.

If you don’t rate pCars then say why in a constructive way instead of using the language of a child.   I’m still confused why you blanked out a letter in ‘sucks’ too.  Is that so we couldn’t guess what the words was ?

Also what is this attitude that because one title comes along, some people just blank out and dismiss the rest as if they are only able to play 1 sim ?  I’ve never understood that attitude and I find it quite narrow minded.
All we’ve got to go on so far from Assetto so far are screenshots and yet it’s already being hailed as the  next best thing around.  Kind of presumptuous isn’t it ?
We have an unfinished rF2 and pCARS,and a yet to be released GTR3
I mean we have nkpro to gauge off, but if I logged all my hours behind sims, nkpro for all its fine physics, would not be up there in the top 5.

  • Anonymous

Simply the best what ?  Screenshots ? I mean thats all we’ve seen so far. And even then the ones from pCARS blows this away imo.

Might need a new gfx card for my putta later this year then!!!

    Looking good :).

  • General Rush Hour

P Cars looks like crap compared to these shots…
P Cars looks like a game with very nice graphical models but it does not look real in any way.

Are you also suggesting the physics will be worse then NKPro which already is at the very top of physics.

  • General Rush Hour

Thankfully i like to turn right from time to time so i could care less of Oval racing.

iRacing is the best right now but i can garantuee you it won´t. AC will follow suit in terms of web based etc.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Jim.Cassi Jim Slimjim Cassi

the biggest downfall NKP had was the marketing, you had to be a sim racer to hear about it.
that is why so little people were online. i just hope they step up the marketing for this title, as it would be a shame to see very little people online for this title.
And yes the graphics are much improved, just hope they can keep up the good work with the physics as well.and if the modding is a bit easier than rF2, i’m sure more people will be moving over to this.
but you also have GTR3 to look forward to as well. i’m sure time will tell

That’s true. Graphics in pCARS is very cartoonish. And the physisc….
    just crap.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6D2OBFNYYU7KMO5XWNTWYBB5DY Tony

Hes just ditching netkar pro as fast as he can, even though the game is more than adequate, netkar pro had hardly any cars, this one probably wont either, or he will charge ridiculous prices. I would be hard pressed to buy this game, because It seems now all he cares about is being greedy. Waste of a very great sim.

  • Pvt Stash

Not trying to stir up touble but I do find it quite amusing how things that are not finished or even released yet can be the best available. Kind of like spending your money before you get paid. :P Should be a very good year for us sim-racers, will be interesting to revisit some of these comments after we do get the full versions of some of these new sims and see how things have changed. Happy racing everyone.

  • Marcos Sanz

come on, pCars gfx are great, i don´t like physics and ffb, but graphics are awsome… one more thing, rfactor2 can look like this game, just wait for some car paint shaders and tracks, look for rfactor supra mod in google images…

  • Anonymous

I’m not suggesting anything.   I have no idea how the physics will be but you have to suppose they will be at least on par with nkpro.    As for nkpro being at the very top, is a matter of opinion.

Either way I don’t think you’ll find it an easy task convincing too many people that the screenshots above make the ones from pCARS look crap.  I think they both are good quality.

It doesn’t have to be either/or.  You are allowed to like more than one sim.  This isn’t football.

  • Anonymous

You give the immature child more attention than he deserves :)
Man I just hope one of these sims (GTR3, Asseto Corsa, whatever) is coming out in a finished state real soon because I want an up-to-date sim I can just play. pCARS is awesome and all but a finished version is still a while away…

  • Anonymous

The FFB has been getting a rework actually. Tried the latest pCARS build (139)? On my G27 the FFB is great. And it’s getting more improvements for next week…
they still need to work on compatibility though, the new FFB doesn’t work right with other wheels yet, but they need to finish it first.

  • http://www.myspace.com/ernie_of_metal Ernie

Simracing is a small niche. So why we should like only one sim and hate all the others? The (small sim community) place is big enough for more sims. rF2-beta has great potential and the last builds of pCARS are definitively a simulation with the step in the right direction.

  • Anonymous

no, it isn’t a matter of opinion. how can physics be a matter of opinion. Something is either more realistic, or less realistic.
nkpro still drives the best of any sim so far, though rf2 has shown massive potential.

  • http://twitter.com/WallyMasterson Wally Masterson

This is a silly statement.  netKar PRO is built on a codebase which is at least 5 years old and Kunos has explained many times that he cannot change the code to add new features such as dynamic weather.  It is time for a rewrite, and hence a new title which will no doubt bring everything Kunos has learned from NKP with it.  Charge ridiculous prices?  NKP is 14.90 euro!

  • http://twitter.com/WallyMasterson Wally Masterson

I would say so, except for mods as Ricoo said.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6D2OBFNYYU7KMO5XWNTWYBB5DY Tony

Where did I say netkar pro was a ridiculous price?. And what does weather effects have to do with adding more cars?, he’s had 5 years, it wasn’t that silly mate so calm down….

  • Pvt Stash

Your post triggered some dusty old memories, I reckon netkars roots go back to around 1993. Think it was netkar namie back then, seem to remember a couple of the cars in it being really good fun to drive. Have done some damage to the brain since then after some very, very good parties so I could be wrong to. ;)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TJPEXIJK7G3DMSDBUOZJS4Q67U M

I agree, the latest pCARS build has nearly nailed it and what they’re talking about with next week’s release is very promising. rFactor2 is also fantastic, apart from a poor framerate I find the whole game very impressive, I’ve put many hours into it already. I’m loving it all, we have all these great sims, the only problem is which one do I want to play today?

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve30x Steve Farrell

It looks like e are getting more racing sims this year than we’ve gotten in a very long time. Its definately time to buy a good wheel.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve30x Steve Farrell

You said he was being greedy lately which is wrong. NetKar Pro is the cheapest sim available that I know of and you dont have to pay a subscription to race online. So he is far from being greedy. If he was being greedy he would increase the price of NK Pro.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve30x Steve Farrell

I bet your six year old son is more respectful than some people who post on here.

  • Rolands Svetins

  • http://twitter.com/StarFoXySxv550 StarFoXySxv550

Nothing wrong with it looking like Forza, that game looks good for the most part.

I think you may have proved him right with that video Ricoo, as compared to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKD43GTR_dM The car model in NKpro doesn’t look as good while it’s in motion (IMO)

  • Anonymous

Looks really nice, last one is really nice

  • Anonymous

‘It seems now all he cares about is being greedy.’
That must be the most crapiest statement of the year. I bought NetKarPro some 5 or 6 years ago for 15 euros. The first release was kind of a let down and development seemed to have stopped. But the next releases were (very) big improvements and he never charged an extra penny for them.

I say, heads up to this guy (and his team).

  • Ricoo

nKPro has 9 cars, 4 were added recently without charging anything.

All those cars have very good physics and mastering them can take hundred of hours…

  • Ricoo

nKPro is one of the best sim out there, so it’s hard to imagine how its following could be less good.

  • Ricoo

My aim was not comparing the graphics since it’s the kind of thing not that important for me, and I am not a fond of game comparison. It was just to remind that the Abarth is already a great car available in nKPro.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ArnoldCarterWong Arnold Carter Kingpong Wong

I guess this is what I am looking for on the graphics-wise……as a next-gen sim

  • Anonymous

Right, and some people have mistaken ideas of what is realistic.

  • Anonymous

I’ll wait til I hear it. No other company has suggested they will have a system of competition (ratings by speed and safety, etc) like iRacing. As such, I’m not interested in any of these other sims… yet.

  • M C

1993?  You mean 2003.  I think Kunos has said he first started experimenting in 2001, 2002 was the first release of netKar, & 2003 the final 0.9.9 namie.  Then of course it became nKPro.  There were some good cars (in netKar namie), I remember the Zonda being particularly fun, along with the Mini & F2000/3000.  Shame my current PC won’t run it anymore :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

The fourth shot really reminded me of GT5 ^^
It looks fantastic for a one man team. Where are all the “oh, ISI is such a small company, they can’t work on good graphics!”. This already proofes you wrong.
It can’t compete with pCARS in any way, but it impresses me a lot for a project of a single person. Unfortunately this one will stay a niche game in a niche genre.

  • M C

IIRC that would have been 1.1 beta 2 (when the Abarth was first released).

  • M C

    Lets hope a Lambo + more :D

  • M C

It’s meant to have an “improved sample based sound engine”.  The sounds in nKPro aren’t great (but then neither are iRacing’s imo), so lets hope they’re good.  Forza 4′s were excellent!

  • M C

I think you need to be a sim-racer to know about any sims.  When people ask what I play & I say nKPro & iRacing they’ve never heard of them.  Word of mouth marketing should be enough (LFS has done pretty well off of it).  They’ll never have the budget to advertise like iRacing, or bundle copies with wheels like ISI, or bring out a console game like SimBin (or as CARS is also panning to?).  Regarding modding I hope it’s a lot easier than with nKPro =)

  • Anonymous

pastor i think you have misunderstood.  I was talking about nkpro being at the top, a matter of opinion.
By that I mean the sim as a whole, not just it’s physics.   But to answer your question anyway….

The laws of physics are what they are and they don’t change.  The values of physics today are the same as they were almost 14 billion years ago (I’m assuming here that you don’t think the world was created by an invisible sky man 6000 years ago).
However the implementation of physics in a sim do change over time.  They change in their sophistication.
The physics in an arcade game are not as sophisticated as a harcore sim.  How do we know this ? We have an opinion.  But,we can’t just take it as fact that all arcade games are less sophisticated as all sims because it’s not true.  DiRT 3′s physics blow away those of Crammonds GP1 because the physics engine is far more complex.

When we judge physics in this situation, we can only judge them on their sophistication, or realism, as you put it.   How real that turns out to be is very much open to opinion.

Your statement of nkpro driving the best of any sim is simply an opinion.  If it were fact you would find everyone in the sim community in agreement with you and somehow I don’t think that’s going to happen.

  • Luke Russell

  • Michael Gribble

The only problem I see is that I don’t think anyone can do it as good as iRacing without having a subscription fee.  For me, that would be fine, but a lot of people think it should all be free.

  • Luke Russell

    Do not feed the trolls.

  • Luke Russell

    Yes it will support modding.

  • Michael Gribble

Just installed the latest build and it still just feels off to me.  It’s better, but for me, there seems to be a FFB “deadzone” of some sorts.  This will be hard to explain, but whenever I stop turning the wheel it’s like the FFB resets or something and creates a deadzone in the FFB, i have to turn the wheel ~15 degrees before I get any FFB feeling back.

Basically, its very easy (almost no resistance in fact) to turn the wheel for the fist ~15-20 degrees, but after that the resistance kicks in.  It makes it feel very inconsistent and difficult to drive. They are definitely improving all around though, so only time will tell.

There are no reasons to believe that AC will be under C.A.R.S. or any other sims as the physic will be at least on par with last iteration of NKP which is still a reference and still, unless im wrong, the most important aspect in a racing sim. It’s also mod friendly and Dx11 based so your post seriously lack of arguments.

I own NKP so I know what it’s like and it is very good, probably the only thing that has stopped it being a lot bigger is lack of marketing. Yeah, there’s no way to do it without a subscription. Without it, it’s too hard to ban people and keep them banned. iRacing had that problem one of their first free demo, now they require a CC or payment method for identity verification even though it isn’t charged. That keeps people from getting banned, then just making a new account.

  • Skytrill .

I would like to see your laptimes with the Abarth. Smaller cars often means harder to handle when on the edge because the suspension is softer, tyres aren’t slick and pretty much anything in it is more primitive than let’s say.. a GTR car. So low powered cars also happen to be very difficult to drive on the limit, therefore they are challenging and they are as well a better way to tell if a simulation is accurate or not cause pretty much everyone in here drove at least one of them.. unlike an F1 or such. This said it’ll be nice to drive cars from all categories as well. I hope we’ll see some licensed sports cars as nissan 240sx or similar.. something between a Fiat500 and a Ferrari !

    Best of luck to Kunos.

Agree with your logic but I think the Abarth and FWD cars in general are pretty easy even on the limit. Certainly in the Abarth you can save even the most ludicrous oversteer just by getting on the throttle.

Colours, shadows and trees can easily be modded. i disagree about the lighting, The lighting on rf2 is superb

Definitely. Light touring cars are the best, far easier to approach the limit with, far more forgiving over it, and therefor they produce better closer racing.

Been running a league again this last season and remembering why I hate it. Sure, the racing is nice, but the rigid schedule is a drag for me. As soon as the Mustang has the new tires I’m back to official series there. MC racing is a whole different animal, needs better cross-class rules. In reality prototypes usually get a stop and go for any contact with a GT.

And this is exactly how many people run official series ;)

At the very least, take a look at rookie bottom splits and tell me the racing at B class wouldn’t be worse if they could drive any serie they wanted ;)

That was my initial thought as well… another GT5.  Don’t get me wrong I played GT5 yo level 36 but driving these cars gets old quick!  Again, just my initial thoughts.  Hope this game offers the full experience!

    “I actually play other sims”

We know you do, but why are you saying the one you haven’t played yet is the best?

(bring on the insults again if you want sonny, it only makes you look more stupid than you have already shown yourself to be.:-))

I’m pretty sure Stefano Casilli was and is inspired by GT5 or Polyphony to some extent.  On two occasion- an interview given by him on Radicals Online and on AutoSimSport’s interview- he commented on how good he found GT5′s FFB (he even use the word “netKar-ish” on the Radical interview.

You may have explained it youurself. If pCARS goes the semi-sim Forza/GT5 route and AC is hardcore sim, of course the more casual pCARS will sell better.

All publishers are showing off with their infinite amount of high grass.

But all the tracks i have seen for real, the grass is mostly not much longer than a few cm.
Only very close the sides where it is more difficult to cut it grows a bit longer here and there.
But i admit it looks a bit more alive instead of standing on a flat texture.

DoF could be blurring the textures. But it does look super low res at first glance.

Spa in late afternoon is so beautiful, I could cry when driving at 300 km/h in my shaking like hell old F1 car. :)

How long ago do you think KS started coding for this ?
The codebase seems pretty advanced for such a newly announced project, don’t you think so ?
